Ya'll ready for a superhero/save the day story? Well, here it comes…read more So, Dr. Angie and the staff at Napa Pediatric Dentistry are absolutely amazing. I hope they all move to Illinois so I can have them be my kids peds dentist location. My family and I were in Santa Rosa for a family wedding. The wedding was on a Sunday and my 23 month old daughter was the flower girl in the wedding. Sunday morning at 7:30AM my poor girl tripped into a set of stairs and knocked several teeth loose (one horribly loose). After some emergency consultation on Sunday we knew we had to wait until Monday morning in order to attempt to have someone see us. I called atleast 2 dozen Dentists, peds dentists, and periodontists within a 30 mile radius on Monday morning and every location was either closed, docs were gone or they didn't see kids. I was lost. My baby girl was in pain. And I didn't know where to turn. Fortunately, Dr. Angie's office was recommended for me to contact by one of the practices that couldn't see me. It would be over an hour drive but after they heard about our situation they vowed to try and squeeze us in. Keep in mind they had a fully booked day and were short staffed. We made the drive and they squeezed us in between patients, all while respecting the appointments and privacy of their current patients (not an easy task to do! I was impressed). They did a visual examination of my daughters teeth and knew xrays were needed right away. After Xrays, it was apparent that a tooth needed to be pulled. My wife and I already knew this and so did Dr. Angie and the team, but proper examination was needed. My poor girls teeth looked rough and it had to be done before we headed home. Dr. Angie and her team exceeded any expectation of bedside manner, love, care, comfort, and expertise that I had walking in there that day. We completed the procedure and 10 minutes later, my daughter was visibly doing better. We are home now and she is a happy girl. We have to keep a close eye on the other affected teeth, but she would not be where she is if it wasn't for Dr. Angie and her team. If you all decide to move to Illinois, I will be the first to sign up my kids as your patients. You brought more than just care to my baby girl, you brought it to all of us. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Ok first off, OMG THEY ARE AMAZING!…read more My 2 year old always puts up a struggle when we brush his teeth in the morning and in the evening. He was a bit hesitant when we walked in but the assistant (sorry I forgot her name) was so gentle, sweet, and really caring. I seriously thought he would be fighting the entire time and he literally let her look at his teeth with the mirror and all the tools without a fight/cry/whine! Hands down the best experience... FYI, it was his first dentist appointment!

It was one of the best "doctor" experiences I've had in my life: The office is immaculate and kid-oriented. Everyone was so friendly and relaxed. My kids read princess books, played with toys and watched videos while Dr. Angie and I talked extensively about my children's dental hygiene and diet. She was a great listener and respected my choice not to have my children's teeth x-rayed. I sat with my daughter while she had her teeth cleaned and my son was jealous of all the praise and attention she was receiving -- he couldn't wait to have his teeth cleaned too! Most importantly, my daughter's teeth looked great. She had a lot of tartar build-up and her teeth looked fantastic after Dr. Angie's cleaning. Will never take my kids anywhere else!

I was crystal clear as to what our insurance and financial options were. Dr. Ring said she would take care of us or send us to someone that could. What instead happened was we were hit with over $2,000.00 in patient cost beyond our insurance 6 days before a surgical procedure and told that a child with a recent tooth abscess died. Dr Ring could have said "My office charges above insurance rates and I don't take Medical I don't think I can help you in your situation." We would have been on to another dentist that takes our insurance (two private and one state) and not very delayed at treating our son. Not to mention all the time and per-surgery appointments wasted at Kaiser. Setting up a dental procedure with a special needs child is complicated enough without dentist playing mind games. Even if you can afford the service I'd be careful entrusting your children with someone that's emotionally dishonest and treats children in pain as something to be used to negotiate with.

That said, I want to offer some feedback about an experience I had with a dental assistant during my 3:00pm appointment on 4/9/2026. Right away, she asked about getting x-rays since I didn't have any on record. That's completely fair, and I explained that the delay had been due to insurance issues. Her response was, "Oh, so we're just gonna cross our fingers with a cleaning and not catch anything underlying that you might have?" It was an aggressive way to speak to a patient, and her attitude made it feel like she was cornering me into the x-rays rather than having a conversation about them. I told her clearly that I had no issue getting them done and that I wanted to prevent any bigger issues down the road. I did let her know ahead of time that I've historically struggled with a strong gag reflex, and I asked if she could offer some flexibility or support while taking the images. Instead, she shamed me for it, saying, "Well, if little kids can take it, so should you." When we attempted the x-rays and I had trouble, she gave up almost immediately, said "okay, we aren't doing this," and then openly talked about my difficulty with her colleagues within earshot. I was actively asking her to try again or explore other options, and her response was, "No, if you can't do these, there's no helping you. You're just gonna have to hope you don't develop something over time." I've never had a care provider speak to me with that kind of demeanor. It wasn't until Monce, the head receptionist, stepped in that things turned around. She approached me with genuine compassion, asked about my concerns, listened to my history with x-rays, and reassured me she'd do her best to help me get through them. And we did -- we got the images. I've never felt so supported in a moment like that. Even after Monce offered to help, I could still hear the dental assistant complaining that "he can't do it" and then telling Monce the x-ray chair was suddenly busy. Monce advocated for me anyway, and I'm so grateful she did. I really tried to hold my tongue during all of this, but no patient should be spoken to or treated that way. This is the first negative experience I've ever had at this office, and I truly hope it's the last. My three stars are entirely for Monce and Dr. Travis, who delivered the level of care I needed and deserved that day.

I tried for just…read moreabout three hours to like it, but alas, the three hour trip to this office for a check-up and cleaning was anything other than desirable. When the front office staff tell you they didn't even know you were still there waiting, that is a bad sign. When they demand that you sign a financial responsibility form for care they plan to perform on you, nobody goes over the costs of the work, which portion of the care is the patient responsibility, and get snippy with you for not signing; it's a bad sign. The front office staff were NOT engaged in the tasks at hand, it appeared they were having a talk among themselves about non-work related issues, and I felt like I was bothering them when I would check in about how much longer I'd be sitting in their lobby. During my care, the dental hygienist was very thorough, but also explained EVERYTHING in WAY too much detail and also there was some weird vibe going on between her and the actual Dentist. I don't remember his name, but it most definitely was not Dr. Nelson, this dentist was new to the practice; he seemed nice enough to me, but there was like I said, some weird tension between him and the hygienist and they DID NOT work well together. I am not certain who's responsibility it is to ensure a smooth visit for the patients, but it should be somebody's. Needless to say, I won't be back. I hope Dr. Nelson is able to find a staff who works well together, is engaged in the practice, and more experienced with giving great client care and service.

I went to the dentist and now I'm pretty sure I need therapy…read more  If you've ever thought, "What if my dental care had the consistency and staffing model of a correctional facility?" good news. Redwood Dental is here for you. I've been five times. I've met four dentists. At this point I'm expecting a punch card. One more visit and I get a free root canal. Visit 1: Dentist #1, Hygienist #1. I hadn't been in about a year, so I expected some consequences. They tell me I have three cavities. Three felt like... a strong opening bid, but okay. I take responsibility for, what I assumed, were my life choices, but in retrospect I question, and schedule the follow-up. Visit 2: Dentist #2, same hygienist.I New dentist, no explanation. Cavities get filled, and suddenly I'm being pitched a "protective coating" for my teeth. A coating. For my teeth. At this point I'm wondering if I accidentally brought my car in instead of my mouth. "Your molars are looking a little dull, we can ceramic those for you." but they're the experts and I need to be able to smile for selfies with my three-year-old, so sure. I guess we're going with the full rust protection.  Visit 3: Dentist #3, same hygienist. Now I'm told my fillings are "showing wear" and we should proactively remove and replace them. Wait? What? Didn't I just get the rust coating? He clarifies that nothing is broken. Nothing hurts. We're just... preemptively rebuilding my mouth like it's a condo that needs to stay market-ready at all times. This is when it clicked: this isn't dentistry. This is the PG&E of teeth always there to tell me I owe them more money as though their doing me a favor. I go home, compare notes with my wife, who, shockingly, is also getting exact same upsell experience, and we both decide it's time to find a new dentist. Visit 4: We forgot to cancel our appointments and learn there's a last minute $100 cancellation fee. For a dentist. Nothing says "healthcare provider" like a policy that feels like a gym membership you can't escape. Then, plot twist, they call us the day before to reschedule because of staffing issues. So just to recap: if I cancel, it's $100. If they cancel, it's... fine. My wife, who is a better person than I am, agrees to reschedule. I begin emotionally preparing for what I assume will be the final chapter. Visit 5: Dentist #4, Hygienist #2. And here we are, folks, we've reached the final boss level. New hygienist calls my name and then blocks the doorway so I have to squeeze past her like I'm entering a speakeasy for dental trauma. Cool start. Dentist comes in, calmly repeats previous recommendations, and confirms, this is key, nothing has actually changed with my teeth. Amazing. Love consistency. Not paying $600 to fix a problem that doesn't exist. Then the cleaning begins. And I want to be clear here: I've had dental work. Orthodontia. Oral surgery. I'm not new to this. This was different. This felt like my mouth got caught in a car wash that had recently developed anger issues. The suction tube? Constantly at the back of my throat and jabbing me as though it had a personal vendetta. Water? Everywhere. At several points I get blasted hard enough that it goes up my nose and down my neck. I left the dentist's office... wet. I have never, in my life, needed a towel after a cleaning, but this is the part I guess, where I should have kept my hands inside the ride for my own safety. Through out it all, the hygienist, armed with the suction tubes is casually glancing around, lightly dancing to the music like she's cleaning a kitchen, not performing a procedure inside a human being. Then the polish. Bubblegum paste. On my face. Up my nose. I'm essentially being frosted like a cupcake. Then flossing, with long acrylic nails. I'm getting stabbed, gums bleeding, just trying to survive the experience with whatever dignity I have left. At no point did this feel like healthcare. This felt like I owed someone money. When she says, "Run your tongue along your teeth and see how it feels," I stand up and leave like I just experienced something I need to report to cps. I don't know who hurt you, lady, but I've seen TSA Agents with a better bedside manner. Truly thankful that no one handed you anything sharper than a rubber tipped polisher, because there'd be a me shaped hole in the wall that I'd likely have been charged for. We're done. We're not going back. And if you value your mouth or better if you have loved ones who care about you... you should consider alternatives. Note: I just want to add here that the recepionist and the hygienist I had for the first few visits were great at what they do. So while I obviously had a pretty terrible experience there were of course some exceptions for which I am grateful.
