Spa Violet used to be in Cardiff but now they are in Solana Beach. If you call 411 they give you a number that is disconnected suggesting they are out of business. They moved and have a new Nail Technician & Eyelash Specialist -- Lydia Mendoza. I was a client of Lydia when she was at Rancho Valencia Spa. They made it hard for me to find her, but I am glad I did. She is the best! Her pedicure will be $55 but has a special through the end of the year at $41.25 -- a 25% introductory offer. I paid $70 at Rancho Valencia and my last treatment there only lasted 45 minutes versus the one hour that Lydia provided and still does at Spa Violet. Lydia takes great care to make you happy and your feet are perfect every time. They also have a massage special right now: $65 for an hour!!! Normal price will be $95. This price is also through the end of the year. Treat yourself and buy some gift certificates for your friends. Their sign is a little hard to see from the street, but it's worth the search. If you need a dermaplane and/or facial this is the perfect spot. Both Dale and Elizabeth have provided these services for me. They are so good I have given it as a gift for friends. You immediately look and feel younger. Recently, my dear friend while vacationing at The Hotel Del Coronado recalled my arranging a facial and dermaplane for her here two years ago. When I asked what she wanted to do while on vacation, she responded, "If I only do one thing I want another dermaplane at that same place you arranged last time." Dale provided the service the first time and this time Elizabeth provided the service. Elizabeth is so sweet and professional she rearranged her schedule to fit in my friend and her daughter in for two facials and dermaplanes. My friend and her daughter were ecstatic with the results. My friend said it is by far the best dermaplane she has ever had and was sad that the people she sees in Denver cannot compare to Elizabeth or Dale at SpaViolet. I recently had the Groupon Mani/Pedi at Spa Violet. As I read the many negative reviews about the experiences at this spa I have to say I'm very surprised as this was not my experience at all. In fact, it was easily one of the best manicure/pedicure experiences I've had. (And I frequently get them in many different locations) I had my mani/pedi with Alethia. She was very through and obviously had a lot of experience. My nails looked perfect and I really enjoyed the spa itself. The street parking is no trouble at all. In fact, it adds to the charm of the place. I highly recommend Spa Violet for a manicure/pedicure. I had a wonderful experience at Spa Violet. It is a quaint little place, quiet, simply decorated and plays very restful music in the background. I was treated with great care from the moment I called in for my appointment, being called to confirm the appointment and then being greeted when I arrived. I was ushered into Gina's treatment room where I was shown where to put my purse, hang my clothes and given a dish for my jewelry. Gina explained what my treatment entailed which made me feel very informed and confident in what she was going to do. She gave me one of the best facials I have ever had. I've been going to Spa Violet for about 4 years now. They are always so nice and they do a great job with their waxing. I'm super picky with my eyebrows and they do a bang-up job! I tend to break out after my waxing and get super red. They use some sort of eucalyptus ointment and special harder wax to prevent this from happening. I am really surprised that they aren't rated higher on Yelp. I haven't bought a Groupon with Spa Violet and a lot of people seem to be upset with this aspect in particular on Yelp. I have seen the groupon deals with spa violet pop up every now and then and I think it should be stressed that these are deals that the esthetician or manicurist themselves run, not the company as a whole. I know because I asked my usual eyebrow gal, Elizabeth, about it (who is awesome by the way!). I actually dig their new location and think they did a cute job in decorating. They made it very difficult to use my groupon. First they said the facialist was booked up for the whole 6 weeks preceding the expiration date, so I got on a waiting list. After getting no call after a month, I went instead to use the face value for a product, as it says is allowed on the bottom of the groupon. When I got there, they were obviously upset that I was going to trade the $35 groupon for a product and I was told, firmly, that it wasn't allowed. I showed them where it clearly says on the groupon that using the face value for a product is allowed, and then was told, "Wait, we can fit you in for a facial right now, or anytime this week. She has plenty of availability." While I would have rather had the $105 facial that I thought I had purchased, I was annoyed that I had been lied to about the waiting list. So I traded the groupon for an overpriced facewash and got out of there. I hardly ever write a bad review, but this was a terrible experience, and the attitude I was given in front of the waiting customers was humiliating, like I was some sort of pauper for buying a groupon in the first place. After all the positive reviews on Dale and her exceptional quality of work, I decided to pay a visit to spa violet to get my lips tattooed. I initially had two phone consultations to determine of Dale could get me the results i wanted safely and hygienically. After a long hard decision, I decided to go in and get my lips tattooed to a light pink since I have brown lips. I was told what colors would make them that shade and went in for that procedure. The procedure was done and all I was concerned about was how blue my lips looked. Dale reassured me that it was only cause they were sore and that they would have their color in 3 weeks. Every week they got darker and darker and i sent her picture after picture via email till finally I told her she needed to see them. When I went to her home (cause the salon shut down) she admitted that she had colored them darker despite my constant reminder that they should be light and pink. She says she will contact her mentor to find out how to correct them. A month later after many calls and emails she sends me an email saying brown lips cannot be lightened!!! No offer of compensation for the money I spent with her, no offer of how i should take my lips back to their original color, and no apology. If I had the time and energy, I would address this inaction with more calls and emails but what more can I expect from such a bad experience and awful after service follow up. Never again at that place or with Dale. read more

This USED to be my favorite place to get my brows done. I initially started going here because it was right across the street from my job at the time and despite one awkward situation where the woman waxing me had just consumed some stinky cheese and then proceeded to breath in my face for the half hr it took to get my brows done I continued to go and love the great work they did. I hadn't been in awhile because I wasn't working in Cardiff anymore and I live in San Diego, so it isn't the most convenient to go to, but after several meh jobs at other places I finally broke down and decided it was worth the drive to have great work done. Well apparently they have moved and while I was apprehensive about going to their new "undisclosed" location (someone's house), I gave them the benefit of the doubt that all would be fine and I would walk away loving my brows again! I should have listened to my gut instinct. My appt was for 6, but I got there at 5:45. I heard voices when I entered, but didn't see anyone so I called out Hello? A very very uncomfortable half hour later, and after calling out Hello?! many times I finally left. I felt like such a creeper just hanging out in someones house without anyone knowing about it! I would have tried calling the number on the website again except it's just a voicemail. I did end up leaving a disappointed voicemail later on that evening, but never heard back. So sad. So now I'm on the hunt again for another wonderful place to get my brows done. :-( read more

Bought a Groupon for a facial and made an appointment a couple weeks out. On day of, I called to reschedule due to unpredictable events. Let me just say that the phone calls could be handled better. Called multiple times with an answering machine picking up when I know for a fact there is a receptionist there. If you force clients to leave messages, it is good business to return their calls within 20-30 minutes. Anyway, after not hearing back for hours, I called again and finally got a real person on the phone who told me they have a 24hr cancellation policy, understandable, my mistake I should have noticed on the fine print, however I was looking to reschedule ASAP, not totally cancel. I still intended to go, so the receptionist said she would have the aesthetician call me back that day and discuss a rescheduling....two weeks later and I haven't heard a peep. Where is the courtesy? Bought a Groupon for mani/pedi with promise of 90 mi ute treatment with massage, but oh my what a disappointment! Massage was very brief. Nail technician was was nice, but I don't think she has polished many nails. Had to ask her to redo a couple of them and the rest look bad. The entire nail is not covered in polish and edges are not filed smooth so they will catch on things and chip quickly. I get my nails done nearly every week and this is the worst manicure I have ever had. read more

I bought one of those online coupons for a facial here. The esthetician was sweet and very friendly. I feel like their prices could be slightly lower since they're doing routine stuff and just slightly above average customer service. The place is tiny because it is a home-turned-business and there is only street parking. My facial was mostly relaxing. I felt kind of neglected during the steam part but I think that makes sense but keep reading. The first 20 minutes felt like a waste while she removed my makeup, prepped my skin and then gave me a steam. I don't really think she removed all my eye makeup like I asked her to do. She said she did but when I looked in the mirror there was still remnants of makeup on my eyes. Her naivete was charming but doesn't really work for the situation when I'm the one there paying for the comfort and tranquility of a facial. Another thing that irritated me was that I had some sort of bug bite on my right shoulder at the border of the body towel. Maybe this happened at the same time she let me chill under the steamer? IDK. Anyway, the experience was pleasant enough but I have definitely had better treatments. Unfortunately, the service failed miserably. I purchased what I thought was going to be a luxurious 90-minute mani/pedi through groupon. It turned out to be an exercise in patience on my part. The manicurist who was SO sweet and just a lovely person, unfortunately had no idea what she was doing. It was the worst manicure I have ever gotten. She barely trimmed my cuticles, the massage was weak and brief, and the polish left half of my nailbed naked. It was painful just to sit there and know that my money was completely wasted. If you have a "Group On" "Living Social" or any other kind of voucher for this place, good luck in using it!!! I initially called this SpaViolet place and booked an appt. Firstly, the woman, Cindy, that answered the phone was quite unpleasant, and borderline, dare I say it, downright bitchy! When I informed her that I was going to use a Group On, she said that she would need the 8 digit number under the bar code to set up the appt., so I then called back and gave her the number. Then, SpaViolet redeemed the Voucher without my even having set foot in the place, or not taking into account that my appointment was way in the future (about three weeks into the future). I took contact with Group On, and they "unredeemed" the voucher, since I told them that I had not used this voucher. Lastly, the last straw came when I called yesterday, 22 of March, to re-schedule my appointment (my daughter is having surgery on that day). The same Cindy woman answered the phone, and I asked her if I could reschedule, she said that was not possible until April 19th. I explained that the voucher expires the 8th of May and that I travel alot for my job and I could not make it on April 19th. Furthermore, I mentioned that I realized that they possibly had a lot of response with Group On or whatever other vouchers they had out there, but if she would be willing to accomodate me or honor the voucher after the expiration date, and she basically did not offer any suggestions/solutions in redeeming this voucher. In other words, she made it sound like that was my problem! I then told her that I was going to take contact with Group On to get my money back and she did not say anything; she could care less was the impression I got. In a way, I AM SO GLAD that I did not go to this place, because if this is any indication of what level of service they are offering--NO THANK YOU! I will take my business elsewhere with or without a Group on! A Group On offers one the opportunity to try a place out, but if they are going to make it so difficult, conduct their business in such a shoddy manner, adding to it "a side of bitchy.". It really was a blessing in disguise that this didn't happen. Lastly, I would give this place 0 (Zero) stars, but that is not possible!! read more

Last week Dale at Spa Violet tattoed my eyebrows, I couldn't be happier with the results! My eyebrows are perfect, it gave my face an instant lift. I had an appointment the next day at a plastic surgeons office and his staff was amazed too - when a cosmetic surgeon and his staff raves and asks for referral's it's the ultimate compliment! I have always left Spa Violet feeling great! My first visit to Spa Violet was for a "No Foolin' Around" Facial with Elizabeth. I left there feeling amazing! Elizabeth is definitely quite talented at what she does and pampers your face like no other! I have also been in to see Dale and get my eyebrow/lip waxing done. My eyebrows looked absolutely amazing when I left. I have been waxing/threading my eyebrows for a long time, but Dale really impressed me with her attention to detail and perfectly shaped brows. My lip wax was also something to gush about. She used the hard wax, which made it less painful and was very detail-oriented as well. I have never seen my lip look so soft and hair-free. They offer Happy Hour Waxing which is a big $$$ saver. If you can, book during happy hour and save a few bucks. The only downside right now is that they are working out of a temporary location (home) and while they have their equipment set-up, it's not your usual brow bar/mini spa. I am really looking forward to when they open up their new location to just further enhance the experience. read more

I have been going to Spa Violet since before they even became Spa Violet and can speak only to the results of their facials. Many years ago (I'm talking waaay back) I found this awesome spa in Cardiff called San Zen, shortly after I began to go regularly they moved to a new location and became Spa Violet...I'll admit I was skeptical. But I loved the results of my facials so much that I stuck with them and have never looked back!! As much as I adored the little location near Seaside Market I am still a loyal client since the move to Solana Beach. I have never purchased a Groupon for the spa or had any service aside from a facial but I can tell you that even after recently moving to Los Angeles I still book my facials at Spa Violet. I would like recommend Gina at Spa Violet and her infrared wrap and massage. I am from San Diego and moved and I travel for business and was in San Diego. I looked on group on and bought two wraps. I noticed weight loss and energy. This is an amazing wrap and the massage was awesome. I could smell the essential oils Gina used during the massage. The warm towels at the end were so nice. The second I interviewed used NON MRI safe ink. That too, I cancelled and I was so glad that I inquired further to these non-professionals by asking about the products used. The third person I interviewed had such scary, skank looking work, I never looked back.Blonde hair with jet black brows. Really? Noooo, not me! Very cheesy and scary. THIS IS ON YOUR FACE, PEOPLE! After looking at the Spa Violet web site, I was assured that Dale Hall was the artist I wanted my face to represent. I booked my appointment through Cindy over the phone. I studied her web site in days following. Two days before my appointment, Cindy called me to remind me of the day and time I had booked. How nice is that! I drove 6 hours from my home in Arizona to find that Dale was right on time & I was greeted with a warm welcome. I was seated in a cozy, comfy sideways "S" shaped lounge bed/chair. After being topically numbed, I looked through several pages of her work and she and I decided what looked most natural. Dale took an abundant amount of time drawing on my brows for me to okay before she began her magic. It wasnt painful, a few pinches & minimal discomfort. Half way through, I asked to see what was done so far. I was so happy to see individual brush strokes that looked so fantastic & natural. I originally went in for cosmetic permanent makeup on my brows with Dale to fix and fill in my un symmetrical brows.. I had been penciling in my brows daily to match them and was fed up with trying to match them and time spent doing so. Dale not only filled in my sparse areas on my brows to make them look PERFECT but it gave me a new-found confidence that i will have forever!!! They look natural and was afforadable compared to many other talented artists. My SECOND visit was with Kimberly for a facial i had purchased through Groupon. The facial i had purchased on Groupon was $35 for a 60 min signature facial a ($115 value) WOW what a deal that was!!! I came there searching for a new Aesthetican as my regular i had been seeing for 15 years had moved. Not only was the facial AMAZING but KImberly educated me on everything i needed to know about keeping my skin at its best and even gave me some free samples to try out from the skin care she recommended! Kimberly will make you feel like family along with the rest of the staff at spa violet! I feel relieved as i now will be Kimberly's client forever and feel i can trust her with my skin and know i will leave there GLOWING on the inside/out!!! Last to say i recently got a shellac manicure about a week ago and it still looks fresh and shiny! The manicurist Carolyine was very sweet and well trained. Was so disappointed in this spa. Bought a Groupon for 3 facials and was refused service because the woman who offered the Groupon was fired. NO WHERE on the Groupon did it say that a specific person would do the facials! They spoke very poorly of the person they fired on the phone with me and told me why she was fired...none of my business and not my concern. They seem to have no worries about turning away clients or potential ones. Do not waste your money. Fortunately for me Groupon handled my refund with excellent customer service. I recently got a facial here a couple of days ago from Kimberly that was a groupon I had purchased earlier in the year that was about to expire. Making the appt a couple of days in advance with the receptionist was easy and very accommodating to my schedule. The facial itself was awesome and my skin is still glowing. Any breakouts that I had from heinous pregnancy hormones are completely on the mend if not disappeared due to her gentle yet efficient cleansing and extraction know-how. I've left other facials before looking like a polka-dot-faced mess and even after a lot of extractions I looked great. It was also the perfect balance of quiet relaxation and enjoyable chatter with Kimberly. There's nothing worse than going for a spa treatment and the person not reading your cues on whether you want to just bliss out or chat it up, and although often times these days I tend to like the peace and time to be quiet (especially after dealing with toddler tantrums all day), near the end, I had so much fun conversing with her that it felt like a fun happy hour with a friend. And the owner Elizabeth could not have been nicer and more hospitable--especially since I accidentally locked my keys in my car and had to hang around for a couple of hours after my appt for my husband to be able to bail me out--while she closed up the place and still was so polite, asking me if I wanted water or snacks, etc. I'm not quite sure why there's so many negative reviews on this place. My guess is the nail person turned out to not have the experience and training she claimed and isn't there anymore. I hadn't checked yelp before buying the groupon and I'm glad I didn't because I usually live and die by yelp reviews and had I steered clear from spa Violet I would have definitely missed out on getting to know this great place and its people!!
