My gel manicure chipped in less than 24 hours, polish was not placed far enough back on the nail for it to look completed, and I had flaky skin on my feet despite paying for upgraded pedicure services. Unfortunately, my experience at this nail salon was disappointing. Outdated nail polish: The regular nail polish used on me was clearly very old and overly diluted with acetone. When they opened the bottle, it actually sprayed due to the buildup inside. Unsurprisingly, my manicure didn't even last a full day--it was a complete waste of time and money. Poor hygiene practices: Hygiene standards were concerning. The soaking bowls were not properly cleaned between customers--I saw mine being emptied and set aside next to others, then reused. In addition, they used the same cheap, paper-based nail files on multiple customers without any visible sanitization. I'm not even sure these types of files can be properly sanitized. At the very least, they should be using metal tools or single-use files for each customer. Customer experience: While the location is convenient, the overall atmosphere was far from relaxing. Let's start with the good: Great location, no wait and just walked right in and was help right away. Efficient and fast, was done in about an hour for a manicure and pedicure. Pretty decent job of both mani and pedi. Big selection of colors to choose from. The bad: constantly trying to up- sell you with additions to the manicure and pedicure. I asked for gel manicure and normal pedicure and they ended up doing the pedi with gel too and charged me an extra $25 for it without even asking me. Total for gel mani and pedi was $115. Just be aware of all the little things they add, any slight nod or just silence in response to a question they take as affirmation to go ahead and add it to your bill. Unfortunately I won't be returning, lots of nail shops out there that communicate better with their clients rather than just looking to tally up dollars to your bill. read more

I had some good experiences with Del Mar Nail Bar when visiting the area in 2022 so when I returned this spring, I decided to go back. After yesterday I won't go back again. My first gel fill was okay, but my top coat began to break down 1 week later. I came in and they fixed it free of charge. A day later I had a nail break. I asked for complete removal of the gel from the nail, knowing there was some old gel that was likely the source of the break, not their most recent work. The nail technician agreed, filed the old gel off, and gave me a new gel nail which held up beautifully. I was charged $5 for the repair, which was completely reasonable. Today I went back for a fresh set - I had a couple more cracks in my nails from previous fills and I determined the best course of action was to start fresh to make sure my nails lasted through the next few weeks. This would require the removal of the existing gel polish from my nails, and that was fine. I requested the same technician that had done a good job on replacing the nail. However, when it came to remove the gel extensions - or "hard gel" as they call it here, to differentiate it from "powder gel" - they put my hands in about a pint's worth of 100% acetone in a thin plastic produce bag, and tied the bag around my wrist. They wanted to then put the bag in a bowl with hot water and a hot stone, but it was literally too hot to touch and I wouldn't let them. Soaking an entire hand in acetone to soften "hard gel" or acrylic powder is a questionable health practice at best - most salons will give you a "finger bowl" that may submerge the fingertips, or they will place acetone soaked cotton balls on the nail beds and wrap the fingertips with aluminum foil to keep them in place. They would not expose the customer to such a volume of the chemical. My hands were submerged up to the third knuckle, and after a few minutes started to burn a bit. I asked to take my hand out of the bag and wash it - when I did I discovered that my fingers were very pale. I had been in the area for about 3 weeks and had built up a suntan on my arms and hands - except now my fingers themselves looked like it was the middle of winter and they hadn't seen sun for months. This was unexpected and I tried to brush it off, but figured I would mention it as a cautionary tale to the receptionist - this was summertime, and the unexpected result may upset people who have work hard on their suntans (or have paid for something like a spray tan). She told me that I needed to tell her if I "had anything on my skin like a spray tan" - I told her I did not, this was a natural suntan that had built up over the time I'd been here. She confirmed with the technician that she did indeed submerge my hand in acetone, but insisted there was "no other way to remove hard gel" than submerging the hand in acetone, although I told her that of course there was (see the methods mentioned above). The other concerning thing with this whole hot take of "the bag of acetone is the only way to remove hard gel" was there were two pregnant women behind me getting pedicures - if either of them had been getting manicures and had hard gel that needed to be removed from their hands, would they have been also presented with a plastic bag full of acetone to put their hands in? This would be extremely teratogenic to a fetus. As certified technicians, they should know that this is not an acceptable practice - save your tan, save your liver, and go elsewhere. read more

Got a reservation for the weekend, wasn't crowded at all and the staff was masked up and the work stations/tools were all really clean. My reservation was for a gel dip manicure but I was able to add on services really easily without hassle. Valerie gave me the best, most thorough pedicure that I REALLY NEEDED!!!! She was great to talk to and worked really efficiently. My nails were done by Kat- I came in with a design in mind and she did such a great job copying it. She was so detailed!!!!!
