Spa Violet is a premier, hip place to refresh and revitalize your face and body. Voted the best for 2006 among San Diegans for permanent make-up, Spa Violet is truly in a class by itself. The decor for one is so groovy that you could spend the entire day there just chillin'. Owner and esthetician, Dale Hall has been doing this for 16 years and is just fab to say the least. Check out their Brow Bar where you can clean up your hairy act in minutes. Walk-ins are welcome but it's best to make an appointment as they are always booked. You can even hire them to host your own Brow Bar Party for your special friends. They have also come up with an unusual concept of hosting BINGO nights where girls and boys get together and win prizes of some of their special treatments. They have even hosted a BINGO night solely for charity purposes allowing them to give back to the community. read more

I was in town and needed emergency hair removal - I know you know what I'm talking about. They were very gentle. It is tough for us men. Thank you Violet, you're one letter away from "violent" but you're as far away from violent as a gentle touch can be. read more

Just had another facial last week, the No Foolin' Around. I always get microderm and a peel but this time I was told they had a dermaplane option. My friend had it done and raved about it so I tried it. So interesting! Made my face so soft! Even though l enjoyed trying a new technique, I still like microdermabrasion, so l might alternate between that and the dermaplane every other facial (which is about a 1x/mo experience for me). I have a lot of friends who complain about skin problems and l always try to tell them about getting facials. But a lot of ppl think facials are just a face cream and massage. Not this facial. This specific facial gets down n dirty to rid my face of the ugly secrets l hide with heavy makeup (probably part of my issue!!). I got this facial done a week ago yesterday and last night my mom asked what l did to my skin, because it looked amazing! I told her l had a facial with "my spa" and she was impressed with how glowingly clear and beautiful my complexion is. I am so glad my husband and l moved back to So Cal. I still live in North County SD, but it is so WORTH the drive and the money to come here with experienced estheticians who have extensive knowledge and training with skin care. I don't trust my face with anyone else!! Don't get caught up by the bad reviews...that was such a mess up from Groupon, not Spa Violet!! Take it from someone who has been a steady customer for 10+ years! Even when we lived in Colorado, l would stop here on visits home. You will never find a better spa! :) read more

I also bought a Groupon for this place. I was looking for a new pedicurist since my regular lady retired. "Spa Voilet" is in a tiny house without a sign on the door. It was the first day for the lady who did my nails. She did okay, but she was struggling to find out where everything was in the place, and apologized that it was her first day on the job. The kicker was after the manicust finished the manicure & pedicure, the manager came over and said, "We're going to charge you a lot more for a French." I asked the manicurist how much if was and she said she didn't know. When I got to the counter, then manager wanted another $17.00 in addition to the Groupon money I had already paid. Buyer BEWARE! Don't go here. read more

Getting my eyes and eyebrows tattooed by Dale at Spa Violet was one of the best decisions I've ever made! I have alopecia areata, an autoimmune condition that causes my hair to fall out, eyebrows and eyelashes included. Being pale and almost hairless, I look like an albino without some paint on my face. But, thanks to Dale's amazing artistry, my face is always perfectly done-up (in a totally natural, non-skanky way). Before coming to Dale, I visited a ton of other tattoo artists in San Diego and L.A., and a lot of the work in their portfolios was scary and fake-looking. One guy wanted to draw eyelashes on my eyelids ala Twiggy; another lady tattooed her clients' faces using a bamboo stick and a little hammer. I was terrified of ending up with clown-whore makeup and purple eyebrows drawn on my face for all time. By luck, a friend referred me to Dale, and she turned out to be the tattoo lady of my dreams! In addition to being a talented, perfectionist artist, she is extremely charming and funny. All of the tattooing takes place in her beautiful spa, using the most advanced equipment and safety procedures. Her prices are beyond reasonable. And unlike many places, she applies a powerful topical numbing cream to your face before going to work. Over the years, I've had about ten tattoo procedures from Dale (all cosmetic tattooing needs periodic touching-up), and have never had anything but positive experiences and results. Getting poked in the eyelids with a needle is kind of scary, but Dale somehow makes the procedure feel like a pampering spa treatment. To sum it all up: Dale is brilliant, and my magnificently perfect eyebrows have helped me become a better, more kind, human being. The end. read more

Update: When I visited, they were located in the Seaside market center in Cardiff. I'm always skeptical when going to a new place for eyebrow waxing. I read the 6 five star reviews so I thought I should give this place a try. After all, 6 people can't be wrong. They weren't wrong. I absolutely love Spa Violet. I asked for an appointment during happy hour to get the 5 dollars off waxing deal but was told that all 6-8 pm appointments were booked. Not a problem though because Dale, the owner, offered the same discount at whatever time I wanted. I booked a 4:30 time slot. The experience was wonderful. The "brow bar" is a metaphor. To my dismay, there was no bar, it's more of a "brow chair." A very comfortable chair that I sat down in, leaned into, and found myself now laying down. The wax that they use is less painful than at my other spas I've tried. I was able to see the applied wax during my complimentary knuckle waxing and was surprised to see that it was (not purple, but) violet. Cute. Elizabeth did my waxing and I would recommend her to anyone in need of a brow girl. She talked with me to make sure she knew exactly what I wanted and how I wanted it done. This made me feel more comfortable and relaxed since I knew she wouldn't butcher my face (like Nufaces in Encinitas did). Everyone that I encountered at the spa was very friendly. From the receptionist to the owner, it was top notch all around. read more

Spa Violet had a special for a $10 brow waxing, so I thought "why not?" It beats the $40 I pay at my favorite place down the street, especially around the holidays! Spa Violet is a cute little place. I sat in a retro barber chair while while my brows were expertly and meticulously groomed. Totally painless and the waxing lasts WEEKS. I would go back again when they have a special, but the location is farther from where I usually go. read more

This review is for the mani/pedi Groupon service. If you cannot accommodate the number of appointments, I suggest the following: 1. Offer only limited number of Groupons and/or 2. Extend the expiration date of the Groupons I had the hardest time booking appointments both using the online booking thing and over the phone. Please do not complain to me how many people are trying to schedule appointment because you should have known this when you decided to offer deals on Groupon. It's too much time and stress to try out a new place. I cancelled my Groupon and I certainly would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Save your money... even on a groupon. Don't do it! I bought the groupon because it sounded amazing... yeah, not so much. Let's start with the pedicure chair... I'm used to my $17 for a pedicure, amazing massage chair. And this pedi is normally $55 so they should have an even better chair - right? Nope, it's an antique barbershop chair. So uncomfortable. No massage - no reclining, just plain weird. Next - the massage, or serious lack there of... for $55 - you should get an amazing massage. And one of the main reasons for getting a pedi is the massage. Massage?? Rubbing my feet for 30 seconds does not count as a massage. My normal $17 pedi - at least 10 minutes of a good solid massage. And no hint of a massage on the manicure. So disappointing. Lastly - my $17 pedi last for at least a month... this one is already chipping after a week! The website plays up these amazing treatments... I did not receive any such treatment. And the groupon even said a $90 value - HA! The one positive? The girl that did my nails was so nice and so sweet. I feel bad for her... read more

spaViolet is the most fun, yet relaxing spa in San Diego! All of the employees are friendly, caring, and of course, have a great sense of humor. The boutique has the best skin care products available under one roof, including NeoStrata, PCS Skin, and Colorscience as well as speciality items like Tepper Jackson PJ's- cute enough to wear outside! The vichy shower is AMAZING for body scrubs (imagine lying on a bed in the middle of a rainforest downpour on your whole body!) and I highly recommend adding a scalp massage to your treatments- but don't be surprised if you have trouble getting up after! Sign up for their Miss Violet e-Club and you'll receive their amazing monthly specials and even special discounts for your birthday. Going to spaViolet is as comfortable as walking into your best friend's house- yet you'll be treated like a queen! read more

While the services at this spa are FANTASTIC, the amenities are limited due to the spa's size. Their Fly me to the Moon facial is one of the best I've ever had...despite the 20 minutes of extraction torture, the head, neck and shoulder massage that followed was absolutely blissful. The aesthetician was extremely knowledgeable and had great recommendations for me without trying to sell me overpriced products. I have also had wonderful massages here - they really have found some technically strong professionals that you can count on when making an appointment here. My only gripe is with: "MISS VIOLET"S UP-DO 20 min $45 - Scintillating scalp treatment: Imagine someone stroking your hair, then rubbing warm botanical oils into your scalp to deeply moisturize and nurture this oh so sensitive area. You'll feel so good, it won't matter that you look like Kramer as you stammer out the door. Better yet, bring a hat and have someone drive you home to nap." I was really looking forward to this "icing on the cake" after my massage treatment...it ended up feeling like a hair-pulling torture treatment. I have always loved head massages, but this was really more of a torture session than anything else. Next time I go for any treatment, I will make sure they know ahead of time that I do not find hair-pulling relaxing in any way, shape or form. read more

I've been going here for over 10 years. I love this place and the staff. If your looking to get permanent makeup I would highly recommend Dale (the owner). I had my eyebrows done over ten years ago and it changed my life!!! I recently had them touched up...over ten years they fade. Once again she did an AMAZING job! The atmosphere is super cute and chic, they go above and beyond to take care of you!!! I love this place! read more

I bought the mani/pedi groupon and found it to be very easy to schedule my appointment. I did schedule about 1 month in advance. They sent a confirmation email and I was able to import it right into my calendar. While the place is small and the pedicure chair was not very comfortable, my manicurist could not have been any nicer. My nails looked great. While I was waiting for my nails to dry, the aesthetician was giving me makeup tips. I was nervous going in based on previous reviews but was pleasantly surprised. read more

LOVE this place and ALL the ladies who work there! The staff always goes the extra mile and seems to always remember the little things that were mentioned in our previous discussions. It's a great personal touch and makes it more fun to keep coming back for more. That being said, I've been in on several occasions for multiple treatments with different therapists and have NEVER been disappointed. My last session there, I had a deep tissue massage with Antoinette, who has, what I'd like to call magic hands. I came in stressed out, and left clear headed and a new woman. Oh and ask for the eucalpytus steam room access...you will NOT be dissapointed! They even have it set-up upon your arrival...SO rad! read more

Spa Violet is my favorite Spa in San Diego! The decor is adorable, the staff is fun and very educated. I love the brow bar in the front of the spa and the lavendar candles are a bit addicting. My favorite service is the fly me to the moon facial and the veechey shower treatment! I have had several of the girls give me treatments, Janelle, Keisha, Dale, Elizabeth and Nikki they are all great! read more

I cant understand some of the other reviews. My experience was GREAT! My hubby got me a groupon for 1/2 hr massage, hot stone, lemon scrub, thermal wrap. The massage although only 1/2 hr was sooooo good. One of the best I ever had. I did have to book the appt two weeks in advance. They offered me earlier, but I couldn't do that day. Anyways, the scrub, and then the hot stones...marvelous. The thermal wrap was so relaxing. When I left I was completely relaxed, and feeling great. The place is nice, and staff were super attentive. FIVE STARS from Susan! read more

I have gone to Spa Violet on some of their specials AND have used Groupon on the facials 3 times. Meaning I have purchased on Groupon 3 times. Each Groupon was for 3 facials. They never skimped. They never asked for my ID#. Only when I checked in did I bring my Groupon certificate. They treated me as if I paid $$$ for the services. They were great, and I apologize--the young lady that did my facial (can't recall her name as it's been 9 months since I went) She was GREAT!!! She gave me a fantastic facial. Did not try to up sell me in anyway. In fact, I asked if I could add a peel or mask and they did!! I am planning on going back with my new Groupon and treating myself. I have never had anything less than great service, a very clean and inviting atmosphere and very professional. read more

This review is for Sarah M. at Spa Violet. Sarah had been taking care of my skin for several years at Facelogic in Encinitas. Sadly, Facelogic closed its doors in November. I followed Sarah to Spa Violet in Solana Beach, she's worth the drive. Sarah is a skilled aesthetician with a sweet disposition and great etiquette. We chat and catch up for the first few minutes of my appointment, but then she focuses on giving a great facial and I get to quiet my mind and relax. I've fallen asleep during my facial several times! In addition to being a skin genius, she gives an incredible neck and shoulder massage during the facial. I get a facial once a month. My skin has never looked better! read more

I've been going to Gina for massages since I went there after using a Groupon certificate a couple of years ago. I've not used any of the other services so have no comments related to the postings below. I can say Gina is one of the best massage therapists I've had and always buy her package of 3 90 minutes massages. Sometimes I'm nice and let my husband use one of the sessions! It's not a fancy spa if that is what you're looking for but if you want a great massage or try one of the wraps Gina does I'd highly recommend. read more

Spa violet is a wonderful place and quite professional. I have done business with Spa Violet for over 5 years and recently had Dale tattoo my eyebrows and eyelids. Definitely a fan. I bought a Living Social offer for Spa Violet. Being that summer gluttony is catching up with my skin, I decided to give them a shot since they are near my work. I was very happy with my treatment. It was a bit cramped, but the owner (Lori?) told me they are getting new furniture in so the next time it will be nicer. Looking forward to trying out other services with the updated space. read more

I had called two weeks prior to today booking an appointment for a body wrap for today at 3pm. I even called a second time asking if I could move it to another time which I was denied because she was booked. I said okay thats fine I will move around my other obligations and make the appointment. I live in Mission Beach so Del Mar is definitely a trek. I showed up about five minutes prior to three and was told that my name wasn't coming up in the schedule and that she was all booked, sorry. I was turned away without them even thinking twice about it. SO RUDE. I was absolutely appalled! I will NEVER go back to this salon. read more

Dale is an amazing person, fantastic mother and great friend. She has done my permanent makeup for 13 years. No need to go anywhere else.

Why didn't I read the reviews???!!! I, too, bought the mani/pedi Groupon. I had the appointment with the woman from Brazil. She was very sweet, but told me she did her training five years ago, but only just recently started doing nails. I used to be a hand model and know how a manicure should be done. This was not it! She left rough edges, missed spots on my nails and when I took the polish off, every nail was splitting! I didn't want her to re-do her work because not only did I think she didn't know what she was doing, but it took over two and a half hours for this horrible service! The kicker is, when I called back to let them know how bad it was, the woman I spoke to was so rude! She said she didn't know how that could happen because the woman had been doing nails for over 20 years. I told her that was funny, since she told me herself that she just started. STAY AWAY! read more

Hi Everyone, I wanted to give a review on Spa violet, becouse I do not want anyone else getting ripped off for a technique that is worthless. I bought a Groupon for $60 for a 50-minute infrared body wrap and acupressure face massage. The staff was very friendly, and the person who provided the service was very professinal I give them a 5 star; but the infrared body wrap was like getting wrap up in warm blankets for 30 min. I took my daughter with me and she had the same experiance; they told me it was becouse I didn't drink enough water.....I drink water all throughout my day everyday:/ I think this Groupon was over priced for $60; the only benefit was the acupressure face massage. Well Lesson Is Learned.....I hope this help someone else save money or spend it on another service! read more

I bought a Groupon now for a facial this morning from Spa Violet before they were even open for the day and called to book an appointment assuming there would be availibility being that the Groupon was only good for today. Well I was wrong, I called twice, left a message and then finally recieved a call back asking why I called, I told the woman on the phone I bought a Groupon now she says for what? I said a facial and the quick response was we have no openings. I ask why did you run a Groupon good only for today if you had no openings and all she says is we are booked, no sorry no explanation. So moral of the story is don't by a Groupon for this business. read more

I guess the adage is true, you get what you pay for. I decided to try Spa Violet out with a GroupOn for a manicure / pedicure. I don't know if this regulated me to a second class citizen, but I will never return after my experience there. 1). Manicure - you are seated at a cramped little table, with absolutely no leg room. Not very relaxing. 2). Pedicure - no massage chair, no spa bath for your feet. You are seated in an old Barber's chair and your feet are put into a metal basin! I didn't realize I was going back to the Middle Ages for my pedicure! Again, not very comfortable, and the basin was kinda gross. 3). The esthetician working on my hands and feet was lovely, and a pleasure to converse with. The rest of the staff didn't say hello or acknowledge me at all, and 2 of the women chatted away in loud voices less than 2 ft from where I was getting my nails done. Again, not conducive to a relaxing atmosphere, and quite annoying. Their attitude was as though I was inconveniencing them for being there. The following day, my fingernails were already chipping. Again, if you are going to charge spa prices, you should provide a spa experience, not some weird DIY home / shop. I could have gone to a friend's house and gotten a better job. At the very least, let people know you don't have professional chairs / equipment for the services you're providing! read more

I had a great experience getting my eyebrows waxed here. I had often walked by the spa, but had never been inside before. It was a very relaxing place-candles were burning, soft music was playing, etc. The woman who did my eyebrows was very nice and gave me great advice on keeping them clean between waxings. The brows came out great. I would definitely go back to spa violet. Next time I'm going to try the steam shower and hopefully a massage! read more

Oh Spa Violet, I would give you 4.5 stars if I could. I love happy hours if that means a $10 discount. You are cute and cozy and I love a little tea and soothing spa music while I wait for my long overdue brazilian. Elizabeth is great. I'm not going to pretend it was painless but whether I'm just lazy or a glutton for punishment, I'm never waiting this long to get a bikini wax again. Ladies, even if you dump your boyfriend, don't get lazy like me when you're single only to pay for it later. The menfolk better appreciate the pain we go through. It's hard to beat a $50 brazilian. read more
