I got the Regular Vegan Plate and chose Iraqi salad, Eggplant salad, Spicy Rice, and got a nice helping of pickles. It comes with falafel and a vegan kabob! The latter seemed to be made of chickpea so was very similar to the falafel but I love it because I don't feel left out looking at the delicious meat kabobs. Everything was excellent and the guys working there were super nice and happy to explain all the dishes. I wasn't able to finish everything but I thought about it continuously up until I was able to eat the rest for lunch the following day. The only thing I could possibly complain about is that the Spicy Rice is not spicy, but you can add hot sauce. I want to order more food next time so I can eat it all week. read more

Amazing experience every time I've been here. The owner Rayan is as amazing as his food. If you're new to Iraqi food (like me), he will walk you through the menu (it's Chipotle style) and help you pick things to try out. Half the reason I come here is for this man's one of a kind charm and kind personality. I really liked the flavor. For me, it was warm and just on the edge of spicy. I tried a mixed plate so that i could experience the different flavors. The owner took the time to explain every dish I didn't already know about. I liked everything. However, I wonder if they have a yogurt sauce or something to cool down the pallet? Unfortunately, the food was way to spicy for my parents. They enjoyed the lamb shank, but the rice and sides were too much for them. People who are mild salsa people, this might be too spicy for you. The store just opened two weeks ago. You can smell the newness of the establishment. I went with my friend who is an MSU student. We got the student discount. So if you're MSU student, don't forget to show your student ID. I order Sparty's regular which comes with rice, salad, 2 choices of meat, and Okra. It was soo good. I chose Chicken tandoori and Lamb Shank. Both meat are so tender and juicy! I would definitely come back again. They do charge the sauce on the side (garlic sauce and Jelapeno). I went there this evening after the first day of Mighty Uke Fest. I have to say the food was excellent. I had the Iraqi salad, some hummus, a spicy rice and and cinnamon rice and the tandoori chicken. All new to me and all extremely tasty. My S.O. and I tried the buffet at Sparty's after receiving a coupon/flyer in our neighborhood ValPak. With many restaurants starting to re-open their buffets, this spot was a little different in that you tell their attendant what you want and they create a plate for you from behind the counter. (It kind of reminded me of Subway a little bit, but with a whole different caliber of food.) We tried a little bit of everything and my favorites were the lamb kebob, stewed okra, eggplant salad, and seasoned chicken leg/thigh. I also enjoyed their hummus, and their garlic sauce was more of a yogurt meets Mayo texture than I am used to but had good flavor overall. They served their grape leaves cold which was different, and I was hoping to try their falafel but they didn't have that on their buffet. Their baklava and cheesecake squares had just the right amount of sweetness to curb our dessert craving and I loved that they have a "give back" mentality! read more

The customer service at this place is absolutely 10/5 stars. My friend and I were unfamiliar with a couple things and the gentleman working, who I assume is the owner, was kind and helpful and even let us try free samples of some things. The food itself was delicious. I had the regular vegan plate with eggplant salad, hummus, rice, white beans, and falafel. I'm not sure what the vegan kabob is made of but it was delicious! The timing of my visit meant I also received fresh falafel, which was tasty. I also tried a lamb kabob and the meat was good! The garlic sauce is a must have for the side. If you like Middle Eastern cuisine this is worth a visit. I'm sure it's very difficult to open a business right now and this one is cleanly and safe. read more

Great little spot! Set up like a buffet. Has some of the most tender lamb kafta that's delicious. The plain rice and the spiced rice pair perfectly with the hummus and meat and pita. The hummus was both thick and fluffy, the falafel had a cinnamon-y flavor that was unexpected and delicious, the beans were almost silky. The vegan kabobs were satisfying, if perhaps a bit salty, but I would get them again. The thing that blew my mind, however, was the eggplant salad. It was delicious at first taste, but later in the night I mixed the leftovers with some brown rice and when the intense flavors were a bit distributed I realized that the sweetness present had a fruity quality, like strawberries. I visited Sparty Kabobs last week. There was 3 people head of me. One had ordered the other was waiting. They only had one person working (possibly the owner). The employee was very friendly. He said he was going to explain everything to us as a group to save time. I listened and looked at the menu board as he went. I was unable to see each thing he pointed at because I was trying to keep a safe distance from the other people. When it was my turn to order we went down the line. I stated I want the $9.99 meal. When I asked what comes with it he said "don't worry about that just pick what you want". At this point my lunch time was ticking away so I asked again what comes with it. He said "pick what you want". My meal went from $9.99 to $19.99. I tried to question him but he was speaking fast and rushing me so I just paid and left. The food was ok. The beans were tough. The salad was the best thing. The different meats we're bland. I took a menu to look over before I go again. My suggestion would be to very clearly ask and understand what you are ordering. read more

I had high hopes for this place based on the score. I've had amazing kabobs in Lansing before. First of all, we walk in and the attendant either says nothing or talks so low we could not hear him. We want beef and chicken kabobs but they are out. How can that be? Kabob is in the name! We settle for chicken and lamb shwarma. The rice had been sitting on the line for a while and was dry, meat was greasy. The hummus was amazing! Pita was cold and the trays he served gave us were very greasy. Now in there defense it was 3 pm but based on the reviews I expected better. In addition, the bathroom was dirty and the doorknob was caked with flour. All of these problems are easily remedied. If Bill Knapps opened an Iraqi restaurant, this would be it. Got the vegan special with eggplant salad, falafel and kabsa. The food is pretty, but that is where the appeal ended for me. The falafel was spongy/chewy, texture was like it had been made/fried days ago and reheated in the microwave, and no flavor. Kabsa had a lovely color, but zero flavor and similarly chewy texture. The eggplant salad (was it supposed to be soslu patlican?) was both bland AND sweet (?!?). The bean stew is basically stewed beans, unseasoned, just lounging there in their own fluids. It takes guts to open a restaurant in the goat-rope that is 2020, and I really wanted to like them. read more

One of the best road trip stops we've ever had. Just happened to swing by E. Lansing to see an old family house and Sparty's was nearby. Now, I almost always love middle eastern food, but this was just top notch and now my kids are hooked too! The first Iraqi cuisine in ALL of the greater Lansing area does not disappoint! I'm a student at Michigan State University, and this is my first year on campus. Back in my part of Michigan I took the amount of great Arabic food for granted! There is not much out in this area, and have had a lack of quality selection in my time here so far. Sparty's Kabob was a pleasant surprise, I went in the other day and ordered the plate for students and was delighted with the service. It is a family owner business and it shows! It was my first time there and it felt familiar. The food was fantastic as well, the lamb kabob had rich flavor, and was cooked perfectly. The grape leaves are supposed to be eaten cold. The tandoori chicken (or the "seasoned chicken leg/thigh") is delicious . you should really stop by here! Their hummus and garlic sauce is so so SO good, and I even went back and bought more the same day. It made me feel good that I was supporting a very local business that had just opened during the pandemic (which, of course, is a tough time to open a restaurant). I loved how they had a kids' plate, student's plate (regular or special- special gets more protein), and a Sparty plate (regular or special). Do not eat here. It's as simple as that. I ordered a regular plate with bulgar and kabab, and it was easily one of the worst examples of Middle Eastern food I have ever had. The kebab tasted like an even worse version of public school lunch Salisbury Steak, and the bulgar was also terrible. The seasoning was terrible and everything tasted like burnt butane. There are so many better options for Middle Eastern and Greek food in this area, so there is no realistic scenario where I can ever justify eating here again. read more

Amaaaaaaaaazing! Very very generous portions. I had the Sparty's plate that comes with rice, meat, veggies and hummus (they also have fresh salad). I didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes for it. The taste is incredibly rich and is only something you can find in a home-cooked meal. The owner themself cooks and runs the place - you can totally tell through their delicious food that they deeply care. They have so many menu selections including vegan options! We ordered takeout last night. I had the kabobs, okra, rice, salad and hummous. The kabobs are wonderful. The rice has a hint of heat. The hummous creamy and nutty. The okra side was delightful. Grilled veggies were also included. All of the items were wonderful. My partner had the lamb shank entree and he said it was the best shank he had in many a year. He had the traditional Iraqi rice and was delighted with the flavors. The restaurant is a small business and the owner works there. I can't wait to visit again.
