This is one of my favorite midweek places to have a quiet business or personal brunch or lunch. It just feels like one of those places that would be attached to a resort hotel, without the hotel. It's out of the way so almost no tourists, it's super chill and a great way to take advantage of our beautiful weather. Very polite staff, nothing fancy, just beautiful mountains, lots of natural greenery and a bright pretty indoor area with a fabulous fireplace in inclement weather. I absolutely used to go crazy over their Curry mango chicken salad, I wish they would bring that back. Good for sandwiches, light salads, eggs. It's a fairly small menu but easy to find healthy enough options, as well as traditional hardier brunch selections. read more

This was our first visit to Sparrow Cafe. We were 3 friends celebrating a birthday at brunch. The place is tucked away behind a medical office building. A small sign at the entrance says Malibu Racquet Club. There is ample parking. It looks like a new business. Sleek lines and blonde wood welcome guests up the stairs. It opens to an attractive seating lounge and bar. Straight ahead is the patio dining area. Friendly staff greeted us and brought drinks promptly. We tried the strawberry ricotta pancakes. Two large ones per serving. One of us had the tuna melt with sweet potato fries. It was all delicious. We would definitely recommend it. Ambiance was quiet. Beautiful greenery all around. Really a perfect experience on a special day. read more

Fantastic food in a lovely location, tucked away in a nice tennis club. We had a truly great brunch on a beautiful deck, and the service was impeccable! read more

Very relaxing and pretty space menu has improved drastically it's good now- I like their smoothies a lot. Pretty sure cafe is public even though it's a private club read more

Sparrow Cafe is located within Malibu Racquet Club, which is somewhat near Malibu City Hall and the Malibu Library. Once you enter the building, the cafe is located upstairs. There's ample seating outdoors, but limited seating indoors. Last week I was with 5 others for lunch and we had to be seated in the cold/windy outdoors since the only large table inside was occupied. The staff tried to get the heat lamps going, but apparently ALL the heat lamps weren't working. (How do patrons stay warm at dinner?!) As a result, each of us ordered some kind of soup or entree with soup to keep warm. I opted for a $20 bowl of pho and was thoroughly disappointed by the portion, the lack of flavor in its broth, and the quality of the beef. My co-worker also ordered the same and we both share the same sentiments. I also tried a couple of shared appetizers, which were also meh. The salsa/guacamole chips weren't bad, the salsa had just the right amount of kick. However, the fries were dry and hard. The positives include a nice ambiance as the cafe is private and far enough from PCH where you don't hear cars zooming. There's no need for shouting as everyone around the table can be heard. Restrooms were clean as they're located right when you enter, which members use to shower and change. There's even lotion for you to use! Ample parking available. Even with all these positives, I can't say that I'll be back as their price points don't match the quality of their food or service. #36/2019 read more

What a wonderful hidden gem. The coffee was excellent and the sandwich was very good as well. I would definitely go back here and recommend it. read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon around 3pm and there were only 2 other tables at that time. Note that this cafe is located on the second floor of the racquet club (outdoors). I enjoyed the ambience of the cafe - it was very peaceful and a nice place to have brunch. Most of the items on their menu were breakfast/ brunch food, but they also have a small lunch menu too. I ordered the egg benedict and my friend got the coconut yogurt bowl. My friend liked his bowl; however, my dish was way too salty. I've definitely have had better egg benedicts at other places and would not recommend this. It was pretty pricey at $14 as well. The pros of this place: there is free parking (considering that this is in malibu, a huge bonus!), the restrooms are super clean, service is friendly, and overall chill vibes. Although the food was a little disappointing, I would consider coming back here again to try something else if I am ever in the area again. read more

Okay food, private, clean ambiance, and excellent service. I really liked the racquet club's small brunch cafe. It's well kept, quiet, and clean. The server that day was excellent- he always checked up on us and made sure everything was fine. I appreciate him. The food was okay. The fruits were all fresh, but the yogurt really didn't taste too appetizing and the cereals had a stale taste to it. I guess you can compare it to a stale bag of cinnamon cookies with bland yogurt and fresh fruits. I can't knock it down too much since it's only one dish. My friend ordered Eggs Benedict. The egg was perfect but everything else was a little too salty for me. The best way to describe the taste would be ham dipped in salt water layered with a squeeze of lime and egg sprinkled with more salt. Would I go back again? Sure, I'll try another dish and hopefully it doesn't have the same unsavory outcome. The waiter really did save the day, which is why this is getting a 3 star instead of a 2. Ultimately, this is a restaurant and food matters more so than the aesthetics. read more

My husband and I were working in Malibu and since we always go to OllO's, we changed it up and decided to try this restaurant. It was a quiet Tuesday afternoon. We got in right away and sat outside. Right away, we were greeted by two young college men (at least they looked like college age). Fast forward: food service and ambiance is a five star! read more

This is by far one of the best options for coffee, breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Malibu. Tucked in the Malibu Racquet Club, which is hidden off of PCH, the restaurant is basically the club's restaurant, except open to the public. Awesome La Colombe coffee, tremendous menu, great staff, the Mexican food is dynamite, the bowls, salads, entrees, all awesome. Give em a shot and drop my name when you go. read more

Delightful spot. I didn't know what to expect of a tennis club cafe, but I was pleasantly surprised. The cafe (within the Malibu Raquet Club but you don't have to be a member) is just off the PCH but was easy to get to and has free parking, plenty of outdoor seating spread out on the shaded patio, and friendly service. Met a friend here for lunch and ordered a matcha latte ($6) and Mexican omelette meal ($15) and felt the price was worth it for the quality of food/drink. read more

Went there for the curry chicken salad - as Im currently obsessed with that dish and will seek it out anywhere. The salad itself was pretty good. The flavor was great, the chicken though was hard cubes (just like Erewhon serves) which made it not as good as could be. But still flavor was great. What was really really good was the drinks and gluten free desserts! My bf got the gluten free berry muffin - delish. I got a matcha milk tea - for a mathca lover it would be really great. The best thing though - what I would go back here for a million times over was their gluten free pumpkin pie ya'll! Firstly I hadn't had a pumkin pie in sooooo long and this hit the spot so good. And their gluten free version is as good if not better then most gluten free versions. It was heaven. read more

Hidden gem inside the malibu racket club is a great outdoor cafe overlooking malibu's private tennis club. Most people tend not to drive into the private club, but the cade is open to the general public and is do friendly. There is a wide assortment on the breakfast menu, reasonable price, great service, and country club atmosphere. Love this place for a quiet breakfast. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed eat at the Malibu Racquet Club's restaurant, Sparrow Cafe! I love their menu - and I found out that they snagged the chef from Plate (which sadly closed last year). If you miss some of their staples, like the Curry Papaya Salad, you'll be happy to see that they brought them back to the Malibu community! They have quick service, plenty of outdoor seating, and lots of free parking. I really enjoyed their Chilaquiles - crispy corn tortilla chips, green tomatillo, guajillo chile sauce, two sunny side up eggs, mozzarella cheese served with black beans, brown rice, guacamole, and sour cream. They weren't too spicy for someone who is afraid of the heat. I thought it was perfect for lunch when you are hungry. I also enjoy their soups - I've had the lentil soup as well as different soups of the day. They're never bland - lots of good flavors. I also never regret choosing something from their specials menu. Last time, I had their stuffed portabella mushroom with a cup of soup. The mushroom was soft and the filling was cooked to perfection. I've also witnessed friends eating the different sandwiches and burgers. They all looked really good - I think I'll try the garden burger next time - it comes with grilled house-made, vegan, gluten-free black bean patty with lettuce, tomato, avocado, vegan chipotle aioli and is served on a gluten-free bun. Final Verdict: I'll be back. I love that there's never a wait or any problems with parking. They have great service, an exciting and healthy menu, and a relaxing atmosphere under their umbrellas. It's my new go-to lunch spot! read more

Perfect spot for brunch with a group of friends, did our recent 10 year college reunion here. We had a great time.

Great find! We went for lunch and got the chilaquiles and a bowl of lentil soup. I loved the lentil soup and my bf loved his chilaquiles. Reasonable portion sizes and not heavy so you can feel full but in a good light and fluffy sort of way. It's also a nice peaceful setting to enjoy a meal - you would never know you're right by the PCH! If we were staying longer would totally go back! read more

Secret gem off PCH in Malibu! Our group was looking for a pet friendly place for breakfast and we were welcomed very warmly. A peaceful atmosphere with great design, great food, and a view of the tennis courts to watch players as you eat!

Came here with my friends and will never dine here again. The food portions small and overpriced. Also, they are racist!! The seated me and my friends in the sun and did not assist us with moving the umbrella. The waitress was short and rude w us. After we were seated and finally got shade for ourselves. Another family was seated behind us and the servers moved the umbrella for them!! I'm sure you know why they got helped and we didn't. The food was nothing to write home about. The service was terrible. No one who was seated followed the covid restrictions except for our table. Do not come here if you're a person of Color. There I said it. read more

Love this place!! Such an amazing hidden gem. brunch is my favorite meal here. I get the champitos (mint lemonade mimosa thing) and ANY breakfast item is amazing I've basically tried them all. I had read good things about this place and wanted to like it. But was so disappointed. It was a cold windy day and there were no heat lamps. We didn't notice inside seating and no one offered it. We should have left. The Italian omelette would have been great but it was cold and the one slice of toast with it was burnt. It was too cold out to send it back and wait again. My guest had the avocado toast which was just one small slice. Crab omelette was also cold and not cheap at $19. read more

Had a very strange experience. We were refused seating due to reservations but most tables were empty and upon hearing other customers entering, larger parties were seated and accommodated for without reservations. We waited at the bar as the staff requested for around 45 minutes as parties entered and were served immediately but we were denied any form of service. I am unsure if it was an issue of us not looking the part or if this restaurant is intended to be members-only. My boyfriend is concerned it's because he was wearing flip-flops but it seemed laid-back attire was acceptable. We left after waiting for around an hour for service at the bar. Beware of this restaurant if not a racquet club member. read more

Wow, what a hidden gem!!!! We would have never heard of this place except for YELP! So glad while driving in Malibu on a beautiful day, to check for new restaurants. We walked right in, the most pleasant atmosphere on the patio. Every table comfortable seating with its own umbrella. Food was delicious and service fantastic. They even had a terrific vegan burger, I had it , was great! Best part of no lines, no waiting and no crowds? You can bring your doggie , which I will do next time.
