BUT now City Council is cutting back various programs including reducing the Pool to being open only 4 days a week, disappointing hundreds (and thousands in total) of people who swim on the weekends. Meanwhile Glendale Council spends almost $25 million on a Joann Fabric property on Central for park and rec use--good luck on getting any movement on that moving forward. Why can't Glendale City look at alternatives: why spend millions, then cut back services--hello; why not raise prices a tad bit more, alongside looking into cutting back some expenses; why not be more forward thinking? We are so very disappointed with this upcoming restricted days policy for the Pool. So, I can't help but give negative reviews to Glendale City Council and Community Services and Parks.

With that said we looked around and found swimming success and we contacted them through email and set up appointments for lessons. I have to say that the email process did take a little longer than I would've expected, because sometimes it would be days before I would hear back from their contact. We finally got things situated where both our kids would be able to take lessons at the same time, which was exactly what we are looking for. I like how the website outlines what to expect out of the lessons and gives an overview of how the lessons will likely go. For the first 3 to 4 lessons my son was yelling and screaming for his life but by the fifth lesson he was confident enough to jump into the pool by himself! My daughter didn't really know how to swim at all when starting these lessons and by the eighth day, she was able to swim pretty much across the pool all by herself. That is very very impressive! The instructors pay close attention to each one of their students. They knowledgeable to know how far they can push the student to make big progress. The only thing that I did not like about about the lessons is that they mentioned at the end of the last lesson that my son might not be able to actually swim on his own until he turns 4 because usually at age 3 and below children are not able to hold up their bodies and lift up their neck because their muscles have not developed enough to do so yet. Had I known this, I would have waited a year and saved our money to put him in lessons next year. Now I'm a bit freaked out because he feels fully confident jumping in a pool that he is not able to swim in. Otherwise, I am very happy with the lessons they took! I was reading over other reviews and it seems there is a communication problem but this wasn't really the situation I had. They got back to me within a day or two, and they were extremely helpful over email. I would totally recommend giving them a try to get your kids to learn to swim. They will get the job done, but my advise would be to make sure your kid(s) are at least 4-5 years old. Otherwise you'll waste $300.

I was about to send her to summer camp and was nervous that she still was a poor swimmer. A friend recommended Swimming Success to me and my daughter was swimming by the 2nd day! I was thrilled! It took them two days to accomplish what the other swim lessons couldn't do in two years!! She ended up taking swim here for three years. My son is signed up for his fourth summer of taking the lessons, and I can't say enough positive things about them. In my experience the teachers have been incredibly kind and caring (he has had the same wonderful teacher every year!), and while they do tell the children they need to do certain things, it is never in a mean or unkind way. Both my children love to swim and spend all summer in the pool, so I am thrilled that they have gained such incredible skills at Swimming Success!!

She's incredibly patient, always attentive to individual needs, and finds the perfect balance between pushing for progress and making sure her students feel safe and supported. Whether it was mastering a new skills or simply getting more comfortable in the water, Christiana's guidance made all the difference. Each lesson was thoughtfully structured, fun, and productive. It's rare to find someone who combines technical knowledge, teaching ability, and genuine care so seamlessly. Like most community pools, it's in a beautiful neighborhood of Burbank and has some playgrounds and tennis courts near the pool. The locker rooms are kept up really well and the pool's temperature is kept at just the right level of cold and the chlorine level doesn't feel drastic as some places. The staff are great and helpful. The day rate depends on if you live in Burbank or not ($6-8) for lap swim and keep their schedule updated on their website. Bring your own swim gear as they are not provided by the aquatic center! Depending on time of day and when you go, the lap swim can be metered or by yards, as the layout of the pool can change (with kids swim, open swim, aerobics) nearby. Theres also a nice outdoor area for family events or kids birthday parties. Theres street side parking and they have a good size parking lot but it's pretty busy on weekends; people leave frequently and usually are waiting for your parking spot when you head out! A local who has been coming here for years encouraged me to try Mccambridge Recreation Pool (which I have yet to)!

In colder seasons this pool might be too cold, but in the hot summer it is the perfect temperature to cool off and if you are swimming laps you won't overheat too quickly like some newer pools that are heated to 84 degrees for example. The pool is like the pictures and they have a big rec area to swim with the family and six lanes to swim laps. I would recommend getting to the pool at the start of the hour since they have to get everyone out of the pool at the start of the new hour. The facilities are old and probably the worst part of this pool. At the front entrance there is a cage where you can pay for your visit ($4 for adults). The Men's area is a bunch of benches for changing and there are no lockers, only mesh bags, but I wouldn't leave my stuff in there since there is no locker room attendant. The bathroom is fairly typical except the toilet stalls are a lot shorter than normal ones. The showers are not bad and it is one main pole with 5 shower heads around it. To enter the pool you also have to pass through the shower area. There is also one big handicapped stall with a shower if you want to have some privacy. One thing I did not like too much about the changing area is that there is an area that I think is meant for passing out gear if a team is to use the area and it is a window with chained fence. The only thing that stops the staff that walks in there occasionally is a curtain. It did not bother me that much, but I figured that I would mention it. I would go again, but make sure that if you go in the summer you bring sunscreen because there is not natural shade so if you stay longer than an hour protect your skin and put on sunscreen.

Teacher D brings enthusiasm, encouragement, silliness and playfulness into the pool, teaching the kids skills and allowing them to have fun all at the same time. My favorite part about Teacher D is how he begins each lesson with "Pool Rules" (i.e., never swim by yourself, if someone is in trouble run and get help and don't try to save them yourself, etc.). My kids have memorized the Pool Rules and can recite them even when not in the pool. Thank you for teaching our kids the skills necessary to learn how to swim while also having so much fun with them!

This man has no conscience, no ethical compass, and does business dirty to make a profit. He is unhinged, condescending, and worships money over service, professionalism, and honesty. My child is autistic and is a Regional Center client. Lucile Cowle, also under Daland Swim School, said that they would create an account with a 3rd party payer so that they could be directly paid by the 3rd party vendor with the Lanterman Regional Center. I started communicating with Lucile Cowle Swim School on March 5, 2025. It is now July 2026 (16 months later), and I was finally reimbursed financially after countless calls and emails. The only way that I was paid for adaptive swim lessons was to bypass LC completely, and Aveanna 3rd-party payers conducted a full investigation to unpack their numerous lies. Dealing with this unethical company was so traumatic and all-consuming. Aveanna had to create an internal memo to no longer deal with this company because they would often refuse to respond, say they already did without turning in the necessary paperwork, and they never responded to the Lanterman Regional Center. My Lanterman Regional Center worker constantly reached out to LC, and their statements about when they responded do not align with any of the paper trail. They have made it difficult at every turn. Read my reviews. I never posted a single negative review of a business before today. Even when I get less than stellar service or food/goods-I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt and don't want to damage their business in chance it was just an off day. However, this took 16 months of my time, and the executive director, Tarrik Daou, was so nasty, condescending, and more fearful of not covering his bases when too many outside parties (not me) came with financial questions than actually providing honest, reputable service or transparent, ethical accounting. I have a long paper trail to back up every claim I make, as opposed to Lucile Cowle (now Daland Swim School), who can't keep records or even finish setting up a business account after 8 months. This is step 1 of any financial accounting. I just can't in any good conscience recommend this awful institution or Tarrik's narcissistic personality as someone you want to deal with. Please. There are other reputable swim schools who won't lie to you. I don't call people liars easily; in fact, I literally never have before in any business review. I had to come up with a long paper trail and unravel his lies because he's such an expert gaslighter; you want to double and triple-check facts to make sure the accounting is done correctly. Please take your business elsewhere. There are swim schools that actually care about your kids, not just the money that comes with it. If your child has any special needs, please stay away. Being a special-needs parent who must advocate for your child's special needs is hard; why add to your load by constantly having to unravel one vendor's outright lies? Your time is precious, and your child can become an agile swimmer at a swim school that loves children and not just sees an opportunity to financially exploit you.

So for nearly $380 per month, you're paying for maybe 30-40 minutes of actual one-on-one attention over the entire month. Am I missing something, or is that an insane amount of money? To make matters worse, the pool smelled like it had more chlorine than water, the facility looked very outdated, and the overall environment didn't feel particularly clean or safe. That itself gives this historic structure a miraculous feel because it survived desegregation in an apartheid state that still tries to hide/deny its ugly white supremacism. Nonetheless, the racist, capitalist model of diminishing public infrastructure because they provide benefit to non-whites equally, prevails. The changing rooms are a shambles. Ironically, in many poorer nations where I have used municipal pools, they have smarter, more updated locker rooms. (This reveals the character of what passes for national culture.) Enough now with the disparagement and let's pivot to this historic pool. The length is perhaps Olympic size but the deep end of the pool is in the middle. It's cordoned off into three sections across, allowing a lap swimmer to benefit from the deepest central third, although it is not a full 25 yards across. The water is much clearer than in Glassell Park and perhaps it's because it is not as heavily used? I found there's a solid jet stream of pumped water underneath leading to a kind of "rip tide" effect in the pool. You have to work harder to get across because of the undercurrent. It's quite enjoyable. The lack of trees around this pool makes the sun feel harsh, but the nearby Gold line train gives it a feeling of being part of a vibrant metro region. As well I was smelling street tacos from a nearby truck, very aromatic I was delighted to find this pool during one of the extended brutal heat waves of triple digit temperatures that are commonplace now thanks to climate change. However, consistent with the history of white colonizers being callous about the welfare of non-white citizens, and overriding the unique realities of western geography in favor of conformity with norms from the northeast, the City of LA Parks and Recreation department feels the need to shut down pools like this one during LA's *hottest months* of September and October. In other words, yes, the City of LA would rather people of this area suffer the heat than keep this pool open to allow for some respite for vulnerable human bodies. LA's hottest months are always September and October. City of LA Parks and Recreation: We don't care.
