The YMCA is a fantastic bang for the buck. It's has a very friendly staff inside & the life guards are all super nice. First time here in over 5 years. It is smaller than my usual Crescenta-Canada Y and the parking lot today was not nearly as full. People at the desk were helpful, machines seem clean and not too close to each other. Think I will add it to my gym rotation for a change of pace. Plus plenty of nice views through the windows. read more

This Y deserves to have definitely a 5 stars. The equipments are all updated and very new compared to other local Ys and the other gyms I go to like 24hrs Fitness and LA Fitness. The cycling bikes are the latest bikes that I have seen in any cycling studios around this area. The treadmills are all the latest model. The gym is super clean and spotless. There are sanitizer bottles in every room and at the entrance. The Group exercise classes have the best instructors I ever had in any of my other classes in any other gyms. The schedule of these classes are perfect for morning workouts and I love the outdoor pool which has always have a line for me for lap swimming. Closed at 8pm, they turn sauna's off at 7:30. The facility is decent..BUT In today's world, A GYM SHOULD BE OPEN PAST 8PM AND OPEN ON SUNDAYS!!!! This is the most ridiculous policy in today's WORKING WORLD. Do better, people who are working sometimes don't even get to the gym until 7 or 8 pm. And closing a gym on Sunday, a day where most people get off and are able to actually go to the gym is ludicrous at well. This is a cop out, this is a excuse not to pay overhead facility cost or increase employee hours and staffing. Get it together you are not THAT Budget friendly anymore anyways. read more

This review is mainly about the pool. I came here this week since the temperatures have been in the 100s. This was my first time ever using the outdoor pool. It is a saltwater pool but the main thing is that it was very dirty. A lot of floating hair (clumps and strands) and other debris in the water. It was quiet enough Meaning under 10 people were in the rec pool and only one swim lane was being used. If time is issue, this would have been a good time to clean parts of it. if its a staffing issue, there were 2 people at the front and it was slow that the 2nd person could have temporarily be assigned to the pool for help with clean up. Is this pool usually this dirty? what prevents the staff to clean it especially during these months when the pool is open? I would have taken a photo but didn't have my camera on me and its not waterproof. If only you could have seen the water? read more

Love the ymca. Equipment is great there's is a fairly vast variety ranging all the way from cardio to weights. There are yoga rooms and it even has a pool. The workers are always nice, greet me when I come in. However one setback might be that the building is a little old that the equipment shows as well which explains the four star. Parking is also great there are always open spots that's very convenient. But besides that the ymca is great for weight training, cardio, swimming, or if you want to use the sauna. Sadly there are no basketball courts. read more

The Crescenta Valley Family YMCA just opened this week and the community is lucky to have a new one in town. Previously, the property was owned by another gym, but I can see lots of benefits coming in the future with the YMCA in charge. One benefit is that members will be able to go to one of three locations in the Crescenta Valley. There is one in La Canada and another in Tujunga. All three have pools, but this one is the only one that has a nice outdoor pool. I will continue to use their facility in La Canada, but I am looking forward to swimming in the pool at this new location. read more

Main reason I joined this Y whilst still paying for 24 Hour membership is their steam room and outdoor pool. Paying 3x more. Boy was I wrong! Their steam room is now a breeding ground for bacteria and it's toxic, smelling like dog shit and car oil. In the STEAM ROOM where we're supposed to detox and "get healthy". Month after joining, girls and women were in the steam room with DIRT CAKED SHOES and full on street clothes. When I raised this with the front desk, they put up a weak sign to "rinse the shoes" before entering. WTF? Really? When did this become the ghetto center while charging 10 times as much? It's DISGUSTING to have to wipe off someone's god-knows-what-that-shit-is off the seat in a STEAM ROOM. This is where we're supposed to feel healthy and detox?! Even 24 HR Fitness has a sign, "No shoes" in the sauna. When I told them spas do not allow this for health reasons. They replied this isn't a spa. Yeah no kidding! It's pretty ghetto, dude. Staff here never answers the phone calls no matter what time of day it is. Seriously? I'm happy they decided to open another YMCA in this area, even though we already have two locations within a ten minute drive. This isn't a crazy nice gym, but it has everything you need. There's an outdoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, day care center, and of course workout rooms. I am loving the circuit room that they added to this gym - it's my new favorite go-to spot. It would be nice if they switched up the music in the circuit room every once in awhile. As much as I love those songs, I'm beginning to sing them in my sleep because of how many times I've heard them. I also think they really need to change up the lighting in many of the workout rooms because it feels very draining. It reminds me of the lighting in a doctors office, please make it a warmer tone! This gym has a lot of kids and older folks so it's very family oriented. You won't find too many half dressed Instagram models taking gym selfies in mirrors here (thank God). They also have tons of different fun classes held at the facility. read more

I am pretty upset with the handling of membership fees during covid! We are unable to use the gym and unless you put your membership on hold they are continuing to charge a full membership fee every month! I have put my acct on hold twice since I am not able to use the gym. My acct was on hold until October, I received my credit card statement in October and saw that I was charged a monthly fee. This is partly my fault not realizing my hold was up. I contacted them via email several times and finally received a response saying my hold was up and they don't refund membership fees so I asked if I could put my account on hold again and I was told yes I could until February. The next month, November I was charged again for the month. When I contacted them they said their billing cycle starts on the 1st and I didn't put my acct on hold til the 7th so that is why they charged me for the month. I couldn't believe it. I asked for at least a partial refund for the month and was told the same thing they don't refund membership fees! I was very upset and said I would just like to cancel my membership then! I have been going to this gym for 20 years when it was foothill Athletic club. It is very disappointing that they would do business this way! You would think during a pandemic they would make some exceptions. read more

I'm new to the area and checked out the local YMCA using their trial pass. I'm not into the whole guided fitness class, cycling etc but what I did see is good studio spaces-others have commented on the pool and basketball but I've yet to make it there. The layout is a little funky but easy to get comfortable. What I really enjoy are the more heavy lifting focused rooms. In one of the back rooms, there are 4 dedicated squat racks with bumper plates and pull up bars in between. What sold me were the bumper plates making deadlifting and cleans easy, idk what the noise policy is since no one has yet to complain but I did notice a trainer eyeing me. The room across has a terrible variety of isolation machines like leg extensions and hamstring curls, being that there is only one of each. Upstairs is the dedicated free weights, benches, Smith machines and other fixed machines. The room is small with many of the machines smacked next to each other but it's clean and you'll get the job done if you go during a non busy hour, whenever that is. There are elliptical as and stair masters in the same room. This gym is more for family or novice lifters, but this Lowell location has most and I usually don't leave the same 2 rooms. Despite the amount of elderly, I'm not surrounded by them often-but don't be surprised if there is a kid or two running around you once and while. read more

Just recently signed up for this gym but there are definitely areas that need improvement. Hours on Sunday: while I know you normally close earlier than weekdays, 5:00 seems super early since so many people are off and want to come to the gym possibly after running errands and stuff.. by the time you're done with all that..the gym has already closed.... The A/C: multiple times in the last 2 weeks I have found myself leaving after just 20-25 min because it's so hot in there and there's so many people. And it would be nice if there were more treadmills... they're always taken.... Lights in the parking: when leaving late on week nights, I feel the parking lot needs more lights, it's very dark walking to the car which is unsafe and I would feel you would want all your clients to feel safe when coming to your gym. Can't really speak about staff because they don't really talk when you walk in or walk out... read more

When this place was called the Foothill Athletic Club we used to have six weight rooms, one of which was a women's only weight room. All weight rooms were removed besides one. The women's room is now a cycling room. One of the weight rooms was transformed into a day care. Two others were replaced with cardio equipment. One of the rooms now has propriety hardware which does not accept any plates, meaning if you go beyond the measly 95 pound limit on any of the machines you are unable to increase the weight. This makes that room completely useless to anyone who has spent more than a few months at the gym, leaving a single functional room with most of the original equipment removed. Due to the fact that there is a single room left for workouts, having more than three people at a time in that room makes it crowded and having more than five forces one to wait in line for equipment. Because there is only one weight room, all machines are put together quite closely. When I was removing a plate, I backed up and slammed spine-first into a bar on another machine. I went down to get ice and was strictly told that my maximum limit was two packets of ice. There are also a variety of classes available and when a class is in session you must leave the room the class is occupying. I would not recommend this gym due to the limited space and equipment in addition to the unhelpful staff. read more

This gym is a complete cardio gym now. It use to have 3 big room of weights up stairs, and now it is one tiny room with minimal equipment. The only good thing about this gym is that is has the TRX room. However, they have scheduled classes so if you are show up at the wrong time, you will have to wait until the class is finished. Also, I think they need to have some gym etiquette classes. Some guys do NOT shower at all and have really bad Body Odor. They need to do something about this. it's terrible. read more

I am so happy that the YMCA of the foothills decided to invest in this gym! The CVY is a great addition. Although it's still being remodeled and upgraded, it's such a great space, not as crowded as CCY and has an amazing steam room! Plus the locker rooms are way nicer too! My favorite work out room is the downstairs room which has all the good stuff needed to work out: the ropes, weights, yoga balls, medicine balls, foam rollers etc. I recommend checking out this new location! Needed to add to my review because CVY now has small group training and the workouts are amazing! Honestly best workout I've done, and having the trainer there to push you and encourage you is so helpful. I do these workout 4 times a week now and not only are the results amazing but I feel so great! My favorite trainers are Ashley and Cameron! I didn't want to mention because it's a hidden gem of a workout class but it's too good not to share! Try it, it's free! read more

Wonderful facility off the 210 freeway, Lowell exit. My friend recommended yoga this morning and I absolutely loved it. They offer a weight room, outdoor pool, and tons of studios. Lots of parking and seconds away from jumping on and off the offramp. read more

This place has the worst customer sevice! Very rude staff! Its been 2 weeks that the steamroom has been not working right! I sit there with the timer on for 20 min and the steam begins to blow steam for a minute... 1 lousy minute thats very frustrating!!!! And no one seems to be taking care of all the problems that we are experiencing ! I have been refering people to join ymca in the begining of time when i was happy with the services! OUR SON/BROTHER DIED AT THIS LOCATION!! This is the father, mother, and sister of Colin Jacobs. Colin (19 years old) was a former counselor at the YMCA of the Foothills. On July 1st of this year he passed away at day camp, which was held at the Lowell location. He was working as a camp counselor in the (5 foot) pool with 25+ campers, multiple other counselors, and two lifeguards on duty but somehow drowned. Not only did he drown, but he was not even found by a lifeguard. One of the campers, an 11 year old girl, found him at the bottom of the pool. He had been there between 5 and 10 minutes. Colin was a strong swimmer in a shallow pool with two lifeguards on duty but still died. Regardless of swim ability, conditions, or any other circumstances, the lifeguards should have been in a position to see his drowning and react appropriately. The YMCA has stonewalled us. They refuse to give any information as to how he drowned or what happened that day. Colin's tragic death was 100% preventable and we never want this to happen to anyone else. The YMCA is trying to cover up the death of Colin, they are not taking accountability of their negligence, and are not communicating the truth behind this with their members. As a family we feel that the YMCA needs to improve the training and standards at all of their facilities. To go one step further, we feel that everyone should cancel their YMCA membership, not only due to how poorly they are handling the death of one of their staff members, but also hold them responsible for the safety of our community, families, and children. I am very upset that this gym continues to charge my card when they are not open for business. I have messaged the email and they can only freeze the account for a few months at a time and there is no phone number to call to talk to a human. I'm not sure why they don't just suspend all transactions until COVID allows them to open back up. I feel as though it's stealing. To say I am upset is an understatement. read more

Love the water aerobics class. Hate that it's time was randomly changed. This means no parking available for the 40-50 people who attend (mostly senior citizens). Now you have older folks parking across the street which is extremely dangerous as the traffic flow to the freeway entrance is non-stop. The management is unresponsive. Makes it seem that the YMCA does not care about it's senior members. I'm sure they don't want this to be their reputation. I love this Y - particularly the wonderful, outdoor, saltwater pool. It's a real treat in the winter. It's heated to 86 or 87 degrees. It's open weeknights until 8p.m. (please double check). The pool + hot tub = a great way to relax at the end of the day. You can swim under the light of the moon. For daytime, there are comfy lounge chairs around the pool. Very clean change rooms. I was a member here for a year and a half. Time after time it was clear upper management didn't care what happened at this location, and didn't prepare on site leads for how to problem solve while providing hospitality and customer service. I understand the y is community based organization run by young adults, but when upper management hears over and over again that there is no order, staff are talking and horsing around while classes are happening, and spaces are double booked and staff are rude when this happens because leadership hasn't given them direction it is time to take your family membership else were... the out door pool isn't worth the frustration I feel leaving the gym. The child watch staff is amazing, Kathy the water aerobics instructor is top notch, and Kristina one of the life guards is a gem, but everything else makes you feel crazy. If you ask a question the answer is always check the website. Then you show them the website doesn't have the information but there is no effort to find the answer. I could go on, but I will spare you. P.S. you can't cancel your membership via the website or app you have to email someone who doesn't respond to you so make sure you watch your credit card statement to make sure they stop charging you. read more

We were guest members last summer as our kids bought a family package. We went mainly for the pool and jacuzzi which we liked. You had to get there at the right time to get a shady spot or a table. Now the kids are gone we were talking of signing up ourselves but it's $93 a month. We'd go there maybe twice a week and for sure this is out of our price range. read more

I have always been very happy with the ymca in general and this one is fantastic. It is always super clean and all of the staff that I have encountered have been above and beyond friendly. They have something for everyone. A beautiful outdoor pool, great workout facilities, a bunch of classes and babysitting. I have been very impressed with the gym itself.The upgrades are nice and the outdoor patio looks beautiful.There are wonderful,new patio sets outside,changing stations, and new showers.All of the new equipment is great.The front desk staff is always friendly and greeting the members.I just have an issue with the way upper management handles situations.There was an instance one day when one of the members threatened to kill another member and it got heated.This member has continually harassed the other member.Management has been informed of the situation and has done nothing about it.This member does nothing but harass other members continually and something needs to be done about it.It makes me question how much management actually cares about the safety of their members.Her name is Yvette,if you come across her,avoid her at all cost.She might threaten to kill you. read more

I hope the roid heads from bigger gyms don't come to this gym. I've been a member of every single gym brand in Los Angeles, starting from clunky gold gym to dirty 24 fitness gyms and the pretentious equinox gym in Glendale. This gym is actually cleaner than all those gyms and the quality of the people coming here is way better than those of ghetto gyms or even the pretentious ones. The outside pool is clean and so it the jazuzii, this should be enough for anyone to make a decision on coming. There aren't many gyms with outside pools. 24 hour fitness gym has pools but their pools and locker rooms are the most filthy and disgusting places on earth. Love the pool and Jacuzzi..... however, the pool needs to be cleaned more often. There are times where the filter is not working and you would see balls of hair, band aids and all kinds of bugs and insects in the water :( - I brought it up to the lifeguard the other day to sweep the bugs and spiders out but she said she has certain hours that she can sweep the water and that it is not the time yet... I do not think we should wait till the scheduled time ... it needs to be done on a constant basis. She hesitated few times....finally asked her PLEASE do it now.. and she did. I have also seen other types of insects on the shower walls. The entire place (in and out) needs to be sprayed for insects. As far as the staff goes... Love Sevan.. helpful person. read more

The facilities are okay, but management is awful. There is a wonderful water aerobics class that is held 3 times a week at 10:30 am. It has been held at that time for 30 years. There are mostly seniors, 40-50 of us, who go to the class. For most of the seniors, this is their only exercise because it is all they are able to do. The new COO is changing the time of the class to 9:30 am and taking away lap swimming afterward. This would be okay, however, there are two classes inside the gym that take up all the parking, so the older people now need to walk, with their canes and walkers, across a busy street to attend class. He was rude and condescending and did not care to hear about how his random decision would affect members. Also, the weights are old, artificial grass in circuit room is gross, and no one seems to care. What happened to the Christian values that the YMCA was built upon? read more

Poorly run and poor communication to members. I took my kids for swimming lessons here. First session during the summer went fine, but the next session had a different instructor with no explanation. The new instructor was inexperienced and looked at some plastic-coated reference sheet as he conducted the class. After the second week, he was gone and the coordinator said that there was a scheduling mistake and he had to go back to school. The coordinator promised a new instructor but for the rest of the session, we had a different instructor practically every day, often just a combined class with another class at a different level Thus there was no continuity and my kids didn't make any progress, a total waste of time. I asked for a refund, but instead the swim coordinator offered a free session. No thanks. read more
