My doctor suggested that I try physical therapy to help improve my symptoms. I was very skeptical at first - after all I went from being a very active person to not even being able to walk for 5 minutes without symptoms. But, I gave it a shot. Now, after 9 months or so of PT, I'm back to walking 10k steps without symptoms and am getting back on my Peloton bike after years of not being able to!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the POTS program to anyone suffering with this illness. Sarah is kind, patient, upbeat, understanding, and a constant cheerleader. She pushes you but not TOO hard that you want to stop. I started seeing results in a couple of months after doing the protocol. Today, I graduated. The equipments are broken, old and feel like being picked from a thrift store 50 years ago. They are not sanitized between use. The premises is infested with rats and you can see multiple at a time while exercising. They double charge, refuse to share receipts and it was exhausting to follow up with them again and again for every small thing. They don't have a team who is accountable.

My PT sessions alternated between Maggie and Kris twice a week until late May, when my visits tapered off to once a week until completion of my therapy in mid- to late-June. Both Maggie and Kris are consummate professionals, friendly and engaging but also acutely aware of what I could (and couldn't do) at the various stages of my recovery. Without their help, I would not have recovered as quickly - and as strongly - as I did. They were very knowledgeable, while still being careful, about expanding my ankle's range of motion and building its strength, which in turn gave me more confidence in the progress of my recovery. Because of their prudent treatment and careful prodding, I was starting neighborhood walks by late March, resumed bike riding in early May, and started hitting golf balls again in mid-May. By the end of May, I was taking 25 mile bike rides and playing 18 holes of golf - well ahead of my anticipated recovery schedule. I'm very grateful for their treatment and professionalism, as well as for the work of the staff at Medstar PT Arlington. My treatment overlapped with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the protocols at Medstar were very solid. I would highly recommend their services to anyone in need of PT.

All I can say is that I made more progress with Sam in my first month than I had in the prior year. Not long after that and I am basically back to normal, which I had started to believe was a pipe dream. We initially did physical therapy, but now I'm seeing Sam as a personal trainer since I've basically graduated from the physical therapy component of it. For me, Dr. Sam helped me get from 70% (where I had been stuck for over a year) to 95% plus. Then, about two years ago, I found Performance Care Clinics, and especially Dr. Sam Hodous, in Arlington's Courthouse neighborhood. He gives me enormous amounts of his undivided attention and a lot of information, puts me through several exercises (as well as massage and dry needling), sends me videos of exercises to do in the next weeks, and follows up very well. He produces better results than surgery and the big companies while taking less of my time and money. And "Look, Ma, no crutches!" Every day chores became 3x harder because the slightest bit of movement caused shooting pain from my lower back down to the back of my right leg. I couldn't even lift my then one year old child without hurting myself. It felt like I had a spine of an 80 year old, at only 22. I saw various specialists and underwent different procedures but nothing helped to improve my back until physical therapy. From day one at this facility, Dale was attentive to my needs and was always encouraging me. I really liked that she challenged me every session and believed in my abilities when I didn't. They have highly experienced staff who give you dedicated, one on one attention for the full hour and they take a holistic approach to solving your issue -- really listening; asking good follow up questions each session and pivoting as needed; explaining what's going on at all times and how different issues might be connected; working on your muscles with different techniques instead of just giving you basic exercises to do by yourself that you could have found online; etc. I saw Kelly and she is one of those healthcare professionals you wish all providers were like.
