I liked that there was alot of natural light coming in from the window. Upon walking in, I was greeted by the owner Scott who cracked lots of jokes about my 64oz water bottle (it's a huge bottle!) I was acquainted with the studio by Scott and he gave me the run down of membership at the end. Him and the instructor Jay were super great at motivating and modifying workouts and posture throughout the session. There seemed to be a great community here -- everyone was so nice! The place was also really clean and well maintained. Bring your own water bottle 64oz or not -- they have a water station. They also provide microfiber towels and disinfectant spray so you can clean as you go. Additionally parking is free in Alexandria on the weekdays except 4-7pm and F45 has their own dedicated parking space. I was on the fence about F45 but I think after this visit I'm going to join in their 45 day challenge starting 2/5/24! It's a sweaty, fun time here that really makes you feel in shape!

I thought that this was an awesome green solution rather than constantly using and throwing away gym wipes. 'Hoping my home box will implement this too. I'm going to assume if you're searching for reviews of crossfit gym you already know what crossfit is, but if you don't check out www.crossfit.com Crossfit, "forging elite athletes", can be very intimidating to those who aren't used to being the alpha male or female. However, at CFOT the main interaction is friendly support, not competition. For example, today we were finding our 3 rep deadlift max. I was attempting 285, and Jerry knew that this was going to be tough, so he started firing up others to cheer me on as I attempted what I thought was the impossible. This is also an example of the great coaching at CFOT, Jerry and the assistant coaches are always paying attention to what is going on in the gym, and are always quick to point out what you're doing right and what you're doing wrong, but in a supportive manner. I think what I like about CFOT most is the emphasis on safety first. The friendly staff create an environment where even the most self-conscious person feels comfortable enough to exercise at a weight that is good for him or her, and not be concerned with what others are doing. More proof that CFOT is a welcoming place is the number of women who attend. Sometimes the women outnumber the men, sometimes I'm the only dude there in a class of 15! Mind you, these aren't women who look like they're juicers or anything, they're just regular people, and if they feel comfortable learning the push-jerk, deadlift, strict press, etc., I think anyone will feel get over their fear of crossfit. In the five months of attending CFOT, I've become stronger than ever before, more defined than ever before, and simply in the best shape of my life right now. I can not wait to see where I stand after a year of this.

Not only did the coach take time to get to know my personal CrossFit history, but many members introduced themselves and really made me feel at home. The class itself was well ran with a thorough warmup and review of movements, excellent coaching for efficiency and safety, and great energy. I cannot think of one area in which I'd give this gym anything short of 5-stars! (For context, I've been doing CF for nearly 6 years and I also have my Level 1 certificate). Well done, CrossFit Old Town. Keep up the great work! If I'm ever back in this area, I'll definitely drop in again!

THE BLACK AND WHITE: I remember when this place in it's old spot down the road. I'm glad they moved because this space is 2x as big and 5x as nice. They've upgraded the restroom situation to 2 rather than a single unit! Gamechanger. My experience is mainly with olympic lifting competitions, namely Cap City Open. That competition is traditionally held in the Spring and on a Sunday. I participated this year and was pleasantly surprised at the new gym. More lighting and 2 platforms for simultaneous lifting made this year's event run very smooth. Aside from the lifting event, the gym has a plethora of equipment (aka toys). There are plenty of rogue rigs to perform squats, pull ups, ring dips, etc. There were also some unknown rigs (yeah i'm talking about the monkey bars) scattered across the gym. As for the programming, I would assume it is like a traditional crossfit class: warmup, strength, and then a VO2 max conditioning wod. That's something I would call and confirm with Trident Crossfit. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Huge space. Great Coaches. Awesome community. That is all.

I emailed every single xfit gym in the Annandale/Burke/Fairfax//Arlington area looking for a place to call home for the summer, and Crossfit Annandale was by far the most responsive, had the most reasonable rates, and seemed the friendliest in that initial email exchange. Once I got to the gym, the athletes were friendly, encouraging, and generally awesome. The coaching staff was incredibly knowledgeable, emphasizing good technique while also holding every athlete accountable for doing good work (read: leaving you gasping on the ground like a fish out of water when the wod was over). Sam, the owner, was at the gym basically every day, either coaching, or working out, or doing one thing or another to improve the facility (some days, I'd wager all three); he and his wife are so rad, and their attitude totally comes through in the way the gym is run. It feels like recess, it feels like home, it feels like it works! I had multiple PRs over the summer (bench press and double-unders, as well as strict pull-ups), and I'm certain that it's because I loved showing up to Crossfit Annandale everyday and just trying to kill every single workout. That's the kind of environment they've created at their gym, and I, along with every other athlete I saw there, left every single workout smiling. Go there. Work hard. I walked around the building trying to see if I was in the wrong place or if anyone was inside, but I couldn't find anyone. After waiting a few minutes, I called the studio and no one picked up. I went back to the front, and eventually a guy opened the door for me but when I mentioned it was locked, he said it wasn't, which was confusing and didn't sit right. The class ended up being just me, which already made the energy feel kind of off. It was set up as a circuit with eight exercises and four laps. The warm-up alone was three rounds, and I was honestly exhausted by the second round. I told the coach that, but he kept pushing me to finish the last round anyway. I get that coaching involves encouragement, but it felt more like pressure than support. The overall vibe of the class was pretty dull and unmotivating. I'm not sure if it was because I was the only one there, but there was no energy or effort to make the session engaging. I completed three out of the four rounds and told him I didn't have it in me to do the last one. His response was basically, "So you're just going to leave early then?" which came off dismissive and a bit rude. At that point, I was already drained and over it. On top of that, the cleanliness didn't inspire confidence. The shower supplies looked really neglected, residue buildup, cloudy containers, and just generally not something you'd feel comfortable using. It added to the overall impression that the space isn't being maintained as well as it should be. Between the confusing entry situation, lack of responsiveness, the coach's off-putting attitude, and the condition of the facilities, this just wasn't a great experience. I don't see myself coming back.
