I liked that there was alot of natural light coming in from the window. Upon walking in, I was greeted by the owner Scott who cracked lots of jokes about my 64oz water bottle (it's a huge bottle!) I was acquainted with the studio by Scott and he gave me the run down of membership at the end. Him and the instructor Jay were super great at motivating and modifying workouts and posture throughout the session. There seemed to be a great community here -- everyone was so nice! The place was also really clean and well maintained. Bring your own water bottle 64oz or not -- they have a water station. They also provide microfiber towels and disinfectant spray so you can clean as you go. Additionally parking is free in Alexandria on the weekdays except 4-7pm and F45 has their own dedicated parking space. I was on the fence about F45 but I think after this visit I'm going to join in their 45 day challenge starting 2/5/24! It's a sweaty, fun time here that really makes you feel in shape!

I'm going to assume if you're searching for reviews of crossfit gym you already know what crossfit is, but if you don't check out www.crossfit.com Crossfit, "forging elite athletes", can be very intimidating to those who aren't used to being the alpha male or female. However, at CFOT the main interaction is friendly support, not competition. For example, today we were finding our 3 rep deadlift max. I was attempting 285, and Jerry knew that this was going to be tough, so he started firing up others to cheer me on as I attempted what I thought was the impossible. This is also an example of the great coaching at CFOT, Jerry and the assistant coaches are always paying attention to what is going on in the gym, and are always quick to point out what you're doing right and what you're doing wrong, but in a supportive manner. I think what I like about CFOT most is the emphasis on safety first. The friendly staff create an environment where even the most self-conscious person feels comfortable enough to exercise at a weight that is good for him or her, and not be concerned with what others are doing. More proof that CFOT is a welcoming place is the number of women who attend. Sometimes the women outnumber the men, sometimes I'm the only dude there in a class of 15! Mind you, these aren't women who look like they're juicers or anything, they're just regular people, and if they feel comfortable learning the push-jerk, deadlift, strict press, etc., I think anyone will feel get over their fear of crossfit. In the five months of attending CFOT, I've become stronger than ever before, more defined than ever before, and simply in the best shape of my life right now. I can not wait to see where I stand after a year of this.

I cannot think of one area in which I'd give this gym anything short of 5-stars! (For context, I've been doing CF for nearly 6 years and I also have my Level 1 certificate). Well done, CrossFit Old Town. Keep up the great work! If I'm ever back in this area, I'll definitely drop in again!

The coaches are so positive and motivating, as well as thorough in their pre workout demonstrations and make those small corrections in our movements that make all the difference in our results and the burnnn! The HIIT circuits are setup so nicely, flowing through about 10 different stations and leaving the whole body worked by the end of the class. These classes are pretty solid for building muscle but you're not going to get huge or insanely strong with this style of workout. This will be more for toning muscle/athletic build as well as gaining functionality and work capacity. It's nice that it's all based on time rather than numbers so everybody can go at their own pace. However, if you really want to push yourself as hard as possible, then I'd say this targets the heart and lungs more than anything, and health is what it's really all about. This is even true in the resistance classes, which you always leave with a serious pump. The weights you're using aren't as heavy as CrossFit which mostly allows for you to push yourself in a safer and higher paced manner and there's more variance in exercises and movements than Orange Theory without the concern of running injuries so while all of the big name HIIT enterprises have some advantages, I believe F45 is the best because it has the most well-rounded diverse stimulus mentally and physically and therefore has the most potentially for truly being "in-shape", healthy, functional, and athletic because you're more motivated to consistently train hard and allowed to do so while staying injury free. If I have to knock it I'd say that some of the exercises are more body building oriented (fly's and curls) than I'd like, but most are also performance based. I will also admit, if this were my only training then I'd definitely like to have heavier weights on resistance days because those end up mostly being muscle endurance for me (which ultimately is more important than raw strength if I'm forced to choose). I'd also appreciate a little more sprinting but I know that greatly increases the injury risk so I understand the omission there. Also if there was more space, I would love to incorporate something more explosive like med ball throws and rope climbs. All in all though, considering the energy in there, the results you'll get from start to finish only sacrificing 45 minutes to make the rest of your day better, and possibly even have another little social outlet, this place is great!

If I struggle at something athletic, I am usually the first person to determine my time would be better spent completing work tasks not done during the work day. Turning 30, I decided I needed a change and signed up for the Southern Maryland CrossFit "Fall Into Fitness" Special. The "Fall Into Fitness" Special included unlimited classes for six weeks totalling $125.00 per person. My husband agreed to do it with me as support for a new step we both knew was going to be a struggle for me. Walking into Southern Maryland CrossFit, I did not know what to think but I was immediately greeted by Coach Amy who wove humor into her customer service paperwork requirements to help ease the obvious anxiety I was feeling upon walking in. Once you leave the small office, the entire remainder of the space is dedicated to work out space and equipment. Classes are on a rolling basis so when one is ending, the next class is preparing to warm up while other members are on the perimeter doing independent lifting tasks (ie. bench press, squats, overhead press). Warm ups are similar each day allowing for members to have some similarity and focus on the other components of the work out for the day. Each day of the week is different at Southern Maryland CrossFit and each coach works to support every members at their individual level/area of need. As a noob, each coach works with me on my form and help me scale the work out to a reasonable level (even when I am feeling spunky and try to go too heavy too soon). The coaches suggest members use a notebook of some sort to track their individual working weights and PRs; but if maintaining a notebook isn't your style (or you frequently forget where you put things), Southern Maryland CrossFit posts photos of their daily board onto their Facebook page. Overall, Southern Maryland CrossFit is extremely active on their website and social media platforms posting the daily work out, daily work out results, and even weekly messages from the owners! After a few months at Southern Maryland CrossFit, I feel stronger but something more important happened: I started to feel like part of a community. Each member is friendly, social, supportive, and down to help/scale with anyone whether you're new or a seasoned CrossFit participant. Even during the Corona Virus (COVID19) Pandemic, the Southern Maryland CrossFit Coaches and members have online virtual workout plans, virtual workout challenges, video meet ups, and frequent social media engagement. If you're a CrossFit kind of person or even if you're someone like me just looking to make a change to bring some healthy-ish balance to your life, consider Southern Maryland CrossFit. OneLife Old Town Alexandria update January 2026…read more Looking back to July 2025 when I first reviewed Onelife Fitness - Old Town Alexandria, VA, things have only deteriorated. Apparently corporate management determined not to allow any additional time between the end of the 11 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday Tai Chi classes and the noon start of Functional Lab (on Tuesdays) and BodyPump (on Thursdays). As a result, participants in the Tai Chi classes are still in the room at 4 minutes to noon, because management has elected not to change the schedule to permit more time in between these classes. Today the Group Fitness Director was personally present before the start of the noon Functional Lab class, and deflected concerns raised by participants waiting to get set up for the noon Functional Lab. She dismissed those concerns: she imagined, hypothetically, that participants in the Tai Chi classes would reject the schedule change, saying that if the 11 a.m. class ran from 11 to 11:50 instead of 11 to 11:55 a.m., it would appear that this was a "Tai Chi Lite" class. That hypothetical seems to ignore reality; it also permits continuing disrespect shown by the Tai Chi instructor toward both her peer instructors and participants in the noon classes. As the Fitness Director personally witnessed today, the Tai Chi instructor was still holding class at 11:56 a.m., disregarding the schedule. Whether this approach is due to the Tai Chi instructor's deliberate disrespect of the incoming class (and the respective instructors) or simply her inattention to the time, management has yet to effectively address this problem.
