Updated review on 11/9/18 -- My time at OT has come to an end. I have nothing negative to say about…read morethe OT workouts and trainers, because they are all amazing. My decision to end my membership is because I continue to have recurring issues with the HR monitor. If you read my previous review, I had an issue with the HR monitor during my very first class. I gave them another chance though and signed up for a membership immediately after said class. OT staff sold me on their newest and latest HR monitor after my 3rd class that you can wear on your wrist. It cost $115 bucks. The OTBeat monitor I purchased, did not work the very first class I used it in (my 4th OT class at this point) - yes, it was charged and yes, it was worn correctly) -- I continued with the class anyways and spoke with front desk staff after my class, who alluded that I didn't wear it right and that I needed to arrive a few minutes early during my next class so they can put it on correctly (rolls eyes -- I knew it wasn't a user issue). But I held them to that suggestion and arrived early for my next class the following week. Front desk staff put it on my arm for me and I began my class. Low and behold, front desk staff interjects my workout a couple of times after realizing the HR monitor was defective. This was after they moved it further up my wrist and applied some gel. At 30 mins, I gave my HR band to the front staff and continued my workout without a HR monitor at all. They decided to keep my band and "fix it" and would give me a call when it's fixed and ready for pickup. It's been over a week and I still haven't received a single call from OT. You'd think after so many bad experiences and being a semi-new member, the studio manager would reach out to rectify my bad experiences, but that hasn't happened. I will be going in this morning with the box (glad I kept that) to return my HR monitor and will be cancelling my membership. For a plan that's $69/month, I expect the OT experience that everyone else gets -- the bad a$$ workout and getting my workout results so I can compare with the previous week and see progress. And if you're wondering, what my plans are next -- I'm planning on joining xsport. They have an X-IT program that is an additional monthly cost (cheaper than OT) and it involves a very similar workout with the HR monitor. They also offer childcare for only $15/month, which allows me to sign up for their unlimited X-IT program. Edited to include that I contacted OT today to inquire about the status of my OTBeat monitor and was told that it was sent to corporate for repair. I asked for a refund given it was purchased less than 2 weeks ago and I was told that opened and used merchandise can't be return, which is silly given I was sold a defective HR monitor from the very beginning and addressed that my band was not working properly the first day it was used. I was told that my only other option is to sell it to someone. This is by far the worst experience I've had with a gym.

I want to start off by saying that I am currently a member of the gym and I have been for quite…read moresome time. I am rating the gym ok at 3 stars for a variety of reasons. I am going to start out with the worst thing or most disliked thing about the gym is the programming. The programming has no cycling to it and it seems completely random. You will do a weightlifting movement building strength in some form of rep scheme and then never touch it again workout for months. I have taken the CrossFit level 1 Certificate Course and that is not the way CrossFit is to be programmed. Second thing on programming is the workouts themselves. I would say at least 50% of the workouts have movements in them that only 1% of the gym can accomplish (ring muscle ups, bar muscle ups, chest to bar, rope climbs, etc) and there is no training for outside the 10 minutes or so in the class. Finally I will refer to the workouts again. The workouts that are programmed make you very susceptible to injury. What I mean by this is that one high rep movement, high rep squat movement and then the very next day you will do the same movement with another workout (high rep squats day one and then snatch squats Just yesterday on January 23rd the workout included 150 wall-ball workout and then today January 24th you have programming where 185lbs is over your head squatting with a barbell (another example of 1% of the class being able to do the movement or lift the prescribed weight). As someone who been injured before repetitive movements is where it starts and it will not go away. I will weight the equipment at a 5 and that is what holds my score up to a 3 overall. Almost all of the equipment is Rogue Fitness which is a great brand with one object here and there that is not. I rate the the coaching at a 3 because most of them are nice and truly care for you when it comes to working out and safety but some of them have no idea what they are talking about in regards to weightlifting or cardio work. They do not want you talking to any other gym member about how you learned something (weightlifting, cardio, double-unders, etc). The training has to come from them from their mouth otherwise you are potentially be called out for saying anything. I also find disappointing that they want to pick your pockets for any type of training outside of a normal class. I have never seen this in a gym before ever and it is disappointing. With the cost of this membership there should be no reason to do that. Drinks and food are fair enough to charge outside of membership fees because they have an actual retail cost to them. Every gym that I have been to has always has volunteer movement activities and this is my 7th gym I have been a member of. I know CrossFit gyms tend to be more expensive than others but $200 for an unlimited membership and then if you want to learn a new movement with a limited amount of people is ridiculous. Now they recently came out with weightlifting programming and if you want to do it outside of being with a coach you have "apply" like a job interview. The gym is way overpriced for what you get. This is one of 2 gyms in the Dumfries/Woodbridge area so are forced to choose. It is not worth the time or money to charge to teach a movement. Gym manager is a funny guy and I respect him but there needs to be some serious overhaul in the programming and cost to benefit analysis. The gym has recently gone through a change in ownership with same people who were already leading it and I hope it is for the good. I sincerely hope that they are able to make changes, preferably soon.

I had my best success with the help of a $$$ trainer in 2013 (200 down to 158 over a year before my wedding). Ten years and four kids later, I'd been working steadily to lose with diet only, but kept plateauing around 170. I avoided gyms and trainers because of the cost, but then a former trainer reached out with an offer I couldn't refuse. Less than $100 for a month-long fitness challenge that included his on-call support (phone and text), exercises that fit in my schedule anytime and required minimal equipment (mat, roller, bands), optional nutritional guidance, and a weekly live group training session using inexpensive equipment I already had in my house. What a deal!! The Absway Challenge really helped me hone in on my goal by adding in an easy-to-follow daily exercise regimen that included cardio and weight bearing exercises that boosted my weight loss over the month and toned me all over. In conjunction with the Dukan diet I was already following, the Absway approach helped me lose 3% body fat and inches all over my body (especially my waist). I had zero expectation going in except that the contest would be fun and that accountability would be helpful on days I didn't want to exercise. I am blown away at how toned my abs are and the muscles I've already built in my arms. In addition, I also made a big fitness goal: a healthy BMI. This is the first time since college over 25 years ago that I'm at a healthy BMI! I can scarcely believe it. I can honestly say I would not have gotten here without the accountability in this group. I made my 30-Day Challenge Goal of 15lbs lost this month which was huge, but the BMI milestone feels so much bigger. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for all of your encouragement, support, and accountability this month. Many days I'm looking at those stairs for the circuit or needing to start my own squat, lunge, plank challenge and thinking "nah- that looks hard. I can just skip it today." But then I think of all of the Absway community who are tackling this with me and it helps me reframe that this seemingly impossible task is only 15-20 minutes in 20-30 second intervals. It is so empowering to know you're beside me and that so empowering and together we FIND A WAY! If you're looking for a jump start to your fitness goal, need to add weight bearing exercise to help build muscle and reduce bone loss, or looking to break a weight-loss plateau with direct support from a trainer and an awesome community, highly recommend.

From our first visit to the present day, Kelsey has delivered a fresh, fun, and challenging injury prevention and strength/conditioning routine that has allowed me to get back on the court AND stay on the court. Her thorough knowledge, expertise, and innate ability to adapt to my individualized needs has been a huge factor in my ability to bounce back from a history of injuries that were preventing me from competing in my favorite sport. Hands down, hiring Kelsey is one of the best decisions I made in 2025 and in the beginning of 2026! Thank you to Kelsey for her commitment to excellence and for all her help. My intention was simply to check out the facilities before signing up tomorrow. We arrived at 9:10 AM, with about 50 minutes remaining before closing. Despite this, Kai M refused us entry in a rude and dismissive manner. He gave multiple inconsistent excuses: first claiming there was no staff available, then saying the person in charge of registrations wasn't there, followed by saying there was no trainer present, and finally telling us to come back the next day in a disrespectful tone. In practice, he denied us access and effectively asked us to leave. We were not asking for anything complicated, just to work out during the remaining open time. Instead, we were met with poor customer service and zero willingness to assist, both toward a current member and a potential new client. We ended up leaving without training and with a very negative impression. Staff behavior like this reflects poorly on the gym and discourages new memberships. Customer-facing employees should be professional, helpful, and respectful, none of which we experienced today.
