I have a routine. I leave MA later in the afternoon so that I could avoid most of the CT, NY and NJ…read moretraffic. It works out pretty well unless it's raining; add +2 hours. If it's snowing, add +4. If raining and snowing, add +6-8. If a deer is hit, no time added. When I get to the first service station in Delaware, I rest for a couple of hours. I drive to Skippers, VA (Exit 4) and rest for a couple more hours. By this time, I am rejuvenated and have the energy I need to keep up with my boy. It HAS worked out great. I always stay in Smithfield, NC, The Sleep Inn & Suites. Not just because it's halfway between where he lives and all the action in Raleigh, or that the prices, modernization and amenities are better than most in this area. But because of how Owen is treated. I feel that I get treated great! My name is known, my preferences are always discussed and my feedback is heard. Owen on the other hand gets red carpet treatment; he gets a lot of love from the staff here. Most of the time they get ignored (because he's shy) but that doesn't stop them from coming up to him, welcoming him back, seeing and waving him off and asking about him. If there is chalk on the ground by the pool, they know it's Owen. If the elevator is going up and down without anyone getting off, it could be Owen.........or me. He's gotten gifts from the staff like Stone Cold gift cards, treats and minion bubbles but yesterday we got the biggest gift of all (by we I actual mean myself). I am active duty Navy with 19 and half years of Service. At 38, although not old, I'm no spring chicken anymore. Apparently, sleep is very important and I haven't been getting much of it as of late. I left normal time and didn't even hit any traffic. I stopped in New Jersey, twice: a 30 minute rest at the Vince Lombardi service area so that I can make it to my normal Delaware stop but that didn't happen. I made it to a service area only a few miles from my first stop and two hours ended up being six straight slept in the car. Today (11/6/19) was Owens birthday and he had his four year check up at 11 am that I was trying to make it to. I've only been to a couple of his doctor visits and always try to schedule my leave around those kind of events. I also wanted to get in early so that I could wrap his birthday presents that I've been so tired to do prior to coming here but didn't have time for that either. I checked in the hotel by 2 pm and was greeted and welcomed back. Owen was asked about and I told them that I was bringing him back later in the evening and that he was having a birthday party at his step dad/moms house. I mentioned that I didn't have time to wrap his gifts because I over rested and without hesitation, Nickie the General Manager, said she would wrap them and put them in the room. My revised plan was to just put the presents under the blankets and have him peel the blanket back one present at a time but looks like I didn't have to do that.....thankfully. I left her with all the gifts and wrapping paper and said she would have it all taken care of by the time I returned in a couple of hours. I left at 2:45 and returned about 6:15. Owen slept on the way and I carried him to the room. He knew he had presents there but neither of us knew what it would look like . I opened the door and found the best looking display of gifts that even I put together myself. It was a wall of presents, nicely wrapped and I didn't notice till later that Nickie also brought him cupcakes and a YUGE trash bag for the used wrapping paper. She even placed some of the fragile toys in boxes that I didn't provide and bubble wrap around one that really needed it and that again, I didn't provide. At first, Owen wasn't impressed. He was tired and waking up from a 30 min nap that could have lead to an all night slumber. Once he saw it, he got into it and unwrapped them all like a mad man......a 4 year old mad man. As a father, especially as only being physically present part time, I felt the biggest sense of relief that that went better as planned and the track record that I keep for myself is unscathed. We caught Nickie before she left and thanked her for something that she clearly didn't have to do and went above and beyond for. She and a couple of others are great every time we visit; Mary and Teresa are a couple that I always interact with during my stay and there are a lot more here who are just some awesome and caring human beings. If you ever find yourself traveling through North Carolina, whether you are staying for the night or just passing by (lots of eating, activities, and shopping opportunities surrounding this hotel), stop on by and say hello and that Owen sent you.

It gives me hopes of a decent room and stay and this one didn't disappoint. That's all I hope for with a room: clean bed and bathroom with no bugs. They got it right. She placed me in a different room since mine wasn't ready and I'm glad I didn't have to wait. Located on the same strip with the shopping outlets and several restaurants and I found a Walmart very easily just a few minutes away. I'd definitely stay here again.

I returned to the Fairfield Inn to Smithfield and am pleased that it has improved…read more My room was not ready at check-in as housekeeping was still working. But after sitting in the lobby for about 30 minutes, I was given an upgraded room. I'm not sure if this was because of my Titanium status or because of the wait. The prices are reasonable here. The parking lot was a good size, and the location was close to the outlets but not too far away from downtown either. It is also near I-95 and Route 301. I was provided a Welcome Bag with a bottle of water and some Chex Mix. My room was on the third floor, near the elevators. I wish there were more soundproofing, but the room was clean and provided an area for me to wind down. Extra pillows, sheets and blankets were provided. The cable channels were numerous this visit, and the WIFI was fast and reliable. I liked that there was natural light during the day and enough lighting at night. The mattresses are near the end of their life, as I could still feel the springs. Breakfast could use a few more offerings, and the tables could be cleaned in between guests.

I am a Marriott member and have points and an established loyalty account with Marriott, so I am familiar with the brand and generally know what level of accommodation to expect. This was my first stay at this particular location. I want to give credit where credit is due because my experience with the staff was completely different from my experience with the condition of the hotel itself. First, I want to recognize Kadance from housekeeping. She was such a sweet and hardworking young lady, and my room was clean. Housekeeping absolutely did their job. I also want to recognize the lady who handled breakfast. She was wonderful, sweet, hospitable, and hardworking. The breakfast was basic hotel food with things like eggs, waffles, cereal, and other standard options, but it was actually decent, and the sausage was especially good. She worked hard to keep the breakfast area clean, and after guests finished eating, the area was spotless. I also want to give credit to the front desk employee who was working the night I had to switch rooms. Unfortunately, I did not get her name, but she was very patient, sweet, and understanding. I believe she was also there the following morning when I checked out. She handled the situation professionally and made the room change much easier. I honestly did not have a negative interaction with any member of the staff during my stay. Management was nice as well. The people working at this hotel were wonderful. That is why I want to be very clear that my issues are with the condition of the property itself, not the employees. My original room was 426. I encountered small winged insects in the room that appeared to be termites. I did a Google photo match because I wanted to identify what they were. There were trees directly outside the room, so I understand that pests can sometimes be an issue, but I was uncomfortable and requested a room change. I was moved to Room 429. I do not blame housekeeping for the pest issue. In Room 426, I also noticed what appeared to be mold or mildew on the ceiling directly above the bed. I cannot say with certainty which one it was because I did not have it professionally tested, but there were visible spots across the ceiling and the discoloration was very noticeable. It looked as though someone may have sprayed or treated the spots in an attempt to make them fade, but they were still clearly visible. Seeing that directly above the bed was extremely unsettling and added to my concerns about the condition of the room. My biggest complaint is that the hotel itself feels severely outdated and badly in need of renovation. Once you get upstairs onto the floors with carpeting, there is a noticeable musty smell. The carpeting smells musty, and the overall atmosphere feels old and stale. The rooms may be cleaned, and the air conditioning worked well, but there is only so much cleaning can do when the actual property is worn down. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and felt old and worn out. I could feel the springs, and the mattress and box spring desperately need to be replaced. The bathroom was also badly outdated. The old wallpaper needs to go. It collects every little splash, speck, and piece of debris, and the entire bathroom needs a complete renovation. The paintwork also looked poorly maintained and in need of attention. Even the furniture was worn down. The wooden stand holding the refrigerator and microwave was chipped and damaged. Everywhere I looked, something seemed old, chipped, worn, or outdated. I will say again that my room was vacuumed very well and housekeeping kept it clean. I personally just did not feel comfortable putting my belongings on the floor because of the overall condition of the room. Even my shoes stayed off the floor. That is not a reflection of housekeeping. Kadance did her job. The front desk was made aware of the issues, and accommodations were made, which I appreciate. The staff was patient, understanding, and professional throughout my stay. But unfortunately, great employees can only do so much. This hotel needs serious investment. The carpets need to be replaced or removed. The bathrooms need a complete overhaul. The beds and box springs need to be replaced. The worn and chipped furniture needs to be replaced. It is disappointing because the staff were genuinely wonderful. Housekeeping deserves 5 stars. The breakfast staff deserves 5 stars. The front desk employee who helped me switch rooms was patient, sweet, and understanding. Management was nice as well. I truly have no complaints about the people.

RUNNNN! If I could leave 0 stars I would! DO NOT STAY HERE! The place is FILTHY rooms are FILTHY…read moresheets STINK pool is FILTHY you can literally see the dirt floating around we didn't even put a toe in! The room has ROACHES! Lamps don't even have LIGHT BULBS! Front desk staff is RUDE JENNY to be specific along with MANAGEMENT and they're terrible LIARS! We stayed here 1 night and had to deal with ALL of these things which was very unfortunate! I called front desk immediately that night when we seen the roach crawling on our nightstand and was told she wrote down my information to give to the "owner" for me to get a refund but she DIDNT want to switch my room since we were checking out the very next morning. I stopped to the front desk to speak with the "owner" during checkout and was told he was "busy" he would give me a call before he left I NEVER got a call that day! I called the next day asked to speak with him and was told he wasn't in that day he'd be in the following day at 10AM. I called that following day at 10AM and was told he wouldn't be in until 12PM I immediately started expressing my concern with the lies I was dealing with and told her I would call back at 12PM she proceeded to say "wellll I'm not sure if he'll be here right at 12" so I said "WELL ILL CALL IN BETWEEN 12 & 1"! All of a sudden she wanted to ask questions about what happened with my stay when everything should've already been DOCUMENTED! I called back a little after 12 and still couldn't speak with him. Ended up getting a call from the owner just for us both to say HELLO and he hung up immediately just to SAY he called! I called back IMMEDIATELY when he hung up just for him to answer say hello and run to the front desk put me on MUTE and give Jenny the phone to LIE and say he wasn't there and to tell me the OWNER doesn't do refunds I would have to go through my third party I booked with! THEN she proceeded to LIE and say he called me previously that day but I didn't answer! I had my phone ALL day that day NEVER got a call from him so that was another lie! I called Expedia started the process and they called the hotel for JENNY to get on the phone and LIE LIE LIE! She told them we checked out a HOUR late when that was a LIE checkout is at 12PM checked out at 11:58AM! We IMMEDIATELY got breakfast right up the road when we left and I have the bank statements to PROVE IT! If we checked out late I would've been CHARGED! She also LIED and said I REFUSED to switch rooms that night I called and made the complaint! Who the fck wants to sleep with BUGS why wouldn't I want to switch rooms! I got NO rest in that hotel and I'm PREGNANT if only we were closer to home I would've LEFT IMMEDIATELY! I will post a few pictures that I have and I ALSO have our conversations recorded something they DONT know but do now that they're reading this review and will try to reply with fake a$$ apologies SAVE IT!

The room was the perfect temp Alaska ( I like it cold). As seen in the photo, the bed was sloppily made. The room has seen better day. It does appear clean. Apparently the offer breakfast bags. We are here 2 nights so I can add that review to this Yelp tomorrow. We are walking distance to many restaurants. We opted to grab COLDSTONE CREAMERY. Also very close to the outlets, Starbucks and more. I'll add more tomorrow/tomorrow evening.

I wanted a comfortable and stress-free place for him to recover, but unfortunately, our experience was anything but that. When we arrived, we discovered that the sink in our room was completely clogged and would not drain. After my fiancé had already undergone shots in his eyes, we were forced to pack up all of our belongings and move rooms at nearly midnight. Unfortunately, the problems didn't stop there. The employee who moved us to the second room had apparently not checked it properly because, once we got settled in, we discovered that the refrigerator did not work. This was a serious issue because my fiancé's Lantus insulin needed to be refrigerated. We were forced to keep it in a cooler, and all of the ice eventually melted. We still don't know whether the medication was compromised or not, which is extremely concerning given its importance to his health. The one bright spot in this entire experience was a night-shift employee named Kahn. She was kind, compassionate, and genuinely tried to help us. She was the only positive part of our stay, and I greatly appreciate her efforts. To make matters worse, the manager (MR. PATEL) assured us that we would receive at least a 20% discount for all the inconvenience and issues we experienced. However, when the bill was finalized, we received only a 10% discount. I have stayed at other Comfort Inn locations and have always had positive experiences, which makes this stay even more disappointing. Between the maintenance issues, the disruption after a medical procedure, and the concerns over essential medication storage, this was one of the most frustrating hotel experiences I have ever had. I would strongly recommend that travelers choose another property. Save yourself the frustration and stay elsewhere! Side note: If I could post photos here, I absolutely would. If privacy is important to you, this is not the place to stay. The curtains were so thin that you could easily see both inside and outside the room. On the bright side, I suppose no one could accuse you of indecent exposure because everything was already on display! Also, be sure to bring flip-flops if you plan to shower. The bathtub was so dirty and grimy that I chose not to shower during my entire stay. The condition of the room truly made me appreciate being back home. To make matters worse, the refrigerator had mold inside it, and there were plugs covering the peepholes in the door. I have no idea why. Between the cleanliness issues, maintenance problems, and overall condition of the property, I was completely disgusted by the experience. I'm sure there are other issues I've forgotten to mention, but my recommendation is simple: pass on this one. There are far better places to spend your money.

We booked two adjoining rooms, one for my parents and one for me. We brought our luggage in and dropped everything off in my parent's room. We then left the room to go across the street to eat dinner. Upon entering my room for the first time, I went to turn on the light and noticed the lampshade had bodily fluids all over it. My dad had to fix the stopper in the sink because it wasn't connected. Our mattresses had giant stains all over them and our linens had hair on them. I then opened up the drawers and saw little bugs crawling around inside. As I was cleaning out the bug filled drawers I noticed a giant cockroach crawling up the wall!!! After I was done freaking out, I realized there is absolutely no quality control at this Comfort Inn. I immediately realized that I could not stay here. Some people say they count sheep while sleeping, the thought of me counting cockroaches was unfathomable. I would never book another stay here and hopefully you won't either.

One of the worst experiences in a hotel/motel I've ever had…read more After a long (12 hour) day of driving, and many great reviews, my sister and niece decided to stay here with my service dog. From the moment we pulled in the place was sketchy. It was 10 pm- and people were lurking around in groups, and there was LITERALLY a lone man watching as we pulled in and smoking a BONG. My German shepherd was on high alert right from the jump. Our room was horrid. Mold on the walls and curtains, yellow stains on the comforters, bugs on the floor... not to mention the brown smudges in RANDOM places. I'm not even kidding. When I called the front desk and asked for a different room- she said they were sold out (which I found incredibly hard to believe) So we were stuck, exhausted and completely grossed out. I slept with one eye open due to the constant yelling outside. Also went to sleep in my shower cap and pants tucked into my socks. At 3:00 am a car full of loud and rowdy people pulled in outside the room, walking back and forth in front of our room screaming and arguing. Normally I don't allow my dog to bark at people, but I gave her the okay because I felt unsafe. The noise went on until about 4:30 am, and I sat awake watching nervously as my family slept. Also- lock on door was broken- so you can imagine the angst I felt. The grass outside was overgrown and there was debris littering the area. I don't know if it was just the area of the hotel we were in, or people use this hotel for god knows what- but it was a horrible experience.
