Stayed this past weekend Friday-Sunday. Agent was courteous and called around 7pm to let me know…read morethat the office will be closed at 9pm and gave instructions regarding the lock box where my keys will be held. They also followed up with emailed instructions and that was super helpful. The hotel is new as well as the concept. Inside they have an open air courtyard with seating at either end and a grill for cooking out. Very basic minimal public space without the fuss and extras. We didn't use this space as it was rainy and cold. There is a laundry facility and vending as well. All doors are secure and require key entry. Main entrance locks and requires a key outside of office hours. Employees I met were friendly and nice but had very minimal interaction. The room was immaculate and the sheets, towels, pillows etc were very clean. The bathroom was large and tub super clean. Kitchen area was very cute but we couldn't find the utensils until the next day we happen to see them in the dishwasher. By then we had moved on to disposables. You can certainly cook up a storm but you will need to buy a lot of stuff like seasoning, oil, butter, etc. so it wasn't worth it since we were there for 2 nights only. Very central location with Walmart within walking distance. Very comfortable and safe location with almost no noise or people. My main excitement came from the 2 very large wall mounted flat screen smart TV. That was joy!

We told our families we would be back to visit with them later. Now we are starving but was too comfy to go hunting for food... Waffle House. Hubby went back to sleep while I grabbed a soup from the lobby pantry. Waited around for an employee to appear from the back to take payment but no one came forward. Enjoyed my soup and went back to sleep. Breakfast was limited but clean and hot. Grabbed breakfast sandwich, coffee and water. The room was cozy, clean, equipped and quiet. We would be back! Yes, upon departure I added the soup to my tab. Not going to hell for $1.50 :)

Although I got skipped over again for the welcome bag, with water and a snack, I am not sure why, as a Titanium member, I wasn't provided one. The clerk called my room to check if everything was okay, which I appreciated. The hotel has a fitness center, a small lobby, guest laundry facilities, and breakfast. They had scrambled eggs, but added pepper, so I couldn't eat those. Then there was an egg-and-croissant breakfast sandwich that wasn't even lukewarm, so it must have been sitting there for a while. I only took a few bites of it because I didn't want to get sick, so I ended up going with a bagel. They had toppings for the oatmeal, but I didn't see oatmeal or a waffle maker. They did have some yogurts and fresh fruit. My back didn't like the mattress here. I'm not sure if it is the brand, firmness, or it's time for a replacement. The room had a full refrigerator, burners, dishwasher and microwave, making it convenient for a long stay. It is also pet-friendly, which made my allergies act up. I didn't notice any signs of a pet being in the room, though, besides the door tag. The Wi-Fi was good, and there was a wide variety of cable channels. Although I was exhausted by this point, I didn't get to enjoy the amenities much, as I needed sleep.

This time was topped all of my experiences overall. Although this building is old, the amenities are still kept up to date and running. I did however experience a hiccup with my room. It was not up to their usual standard and I let the customer service know and Ms Jackie took care of me as well as my family. She went beyond her duty to ensure that i was comfortable and settled before her shift ended. She checked on me and my elderly dad who was in a different room to ensure our comfortability of the property as well as live up to the franchise name. Thank you Ms Jackie for going the extra mile for me and my family. We will be back again.

Then what happened that I didn't expect was that one or more of the housekeepers commit theft often. My friend wallet was stolen and we had to file a police report and also currently waiting to press charges. Then one of the employees that worked there was giving me dirty looks and cursed me out through texts the following night when I jus simply asked if she could let me know is she heard anything about the missing wallet. This hotel condones stealing. And when Texas Roadhouse donates food the manager only gives it to his employees not the residents as he is supposed to do. Never ever going back there. My friend has to return to Connecticut without her license, credit cards were stolen on top of her food stamp card and medical cards which now she doesn't have. What kind of business is this?

Little did I expect a PBS TV series to make such an indelible impact on my life, but "A Chef's…read moreLife" has made palpable not only the inner workings of Vivian Howard's Chef and the Farmer, an upscale restaurant in the small North Carolina town of Kinston, but also the key local people who supply the high quality of the food being prepared. Prominent on the show is the congenial farmer Warren Brothers who along with his wife Jane decided to turn their charming home in pastoral La Grange into a B&B. Once I got wind of this, I made a reservation for a private room for my partner and myself in April, so we could frankly meet Warren and see where several of the key scenes on the series took place. What I didn't expect was the overwhelming generosity of our hosts in providing an experience that will remain parked comfortably in my memory. First, Jane was extraordinarily kind in ensuring we had a good time that she connected me with Vivian's wondrous assistant Holley. Holley took us to several places of interest in Kinston like Mother Earth Brewing, the Buy Local art gallery, and the newly refurbished O'Neil Hotel. As Jane was unfortunately out of town when we arrived, Warren took over and immediately made us feel at home. He not only took the time to stay up and chat with us after our marathon feast at Chef and The Farmer, but he asked Lillie to come over early in the morning to make her famous biscuits (photo: http://bit.ly/1G870iS). We already adored her from the series, and as it turned out, she is even funnier and warmer in person. What a treat to shoot the breeze with Warren, Lillie and Holley over those incredible biscuits and fresh over-easy eggs that came straight from the chickens at his nearby farm (photo: http://bit.ly/1aIk3w5). After breakfast, Warren guided us to his two-acre farm down the road where we watched him feed chickens and pigs and started to wash the turnips for transport (photo: http://bit.ly/1G91nnc). As for our accommodations, the 1853-restored farmhouse just felt comfortable the moment we stepped through the back porch door. Our bedroom was warm and spacious, an ideal setting for the claps of thunder we heard through the night. They certainly made sure to stock the bathroom with every amenity. We loved all the family photos and paintings on almost every wall because you really felt the love in their family. I even thought it was heartwarming to see a huge "Breakfast at Tiffany's" movie poster on the wall since I am such an Audrey Hepburn fan. How did they know (photo: http://bit.ly/1bc4k92)? Oh well, I guess that's what family is all about, and that's what Warren and Jane are genuinely all about, making their guests feel like they are part of their family. I could not recommend staying in their home highly enough if you plan to create your own "A Chef's Life" adventure or even if you simply want to take in the beauty of Eastern North Carolina. It's an experience you will never forget.

If I were to guess, the quality of the bed, furnishing, and the hotel overall was better at Marriot. But to save half the cost and a little more I stayed at Quality Inn. I got the room at Quality at such a great deal, by the way, by going through Google Maps on my phone. I did not find the same deal by going through Google Maps on my iMac. I have no idea why that was so. Another comment. I don't stay at many hotels, but if the ones I've been to I would say this hotel is in the middle rank. If you want a clean, safe, and somewhat comfortable stay with a few amenities then this is your place. If you want a tv that works, middle class comforts and decor, and nice smelling place then find a more expensive place. What made it worth staying at Quality. The beds were comfortable for the most part. They seemed a little firm but they were comfortable. The rooms and first floor of the hotel where my room was clean. The dining area was clean. The furnishings in the dining area and lobby were decent. The rooms had all the amenities I needed. But if you are looking for drawers to put your clothes for a stay longer than a few days then you won't find one. There was a place to hang clothes. So, do you want to stay a couple days? You're gonna have to set your suitcase on a provided bench and live out of your suitcase.. The service at check in and checkout at the front of the hotel was quick and pleasant service. The location of the hotel is very close to restaurants, stores, access to the main roads. What I didn't like. Some of the furnishings looked horrible. The fake leather on the computer chair was peeling off and almost all gone. The Laos looked like they had a seen decades of use. The corners of the walls near high traffic areas had dents and were coming apart. The rooms were made and panted minimum and cheap material. The free breakfast had no meat or protein foods except for microwaveable sausage biscuits. The free breakfast consisted of juice, microwavable sausage biscuits, cereal, bagels, yogurt, waffles, apples, and oranges. Also, some channels on the tv didn't work (see my pics). The channels that didn't work or movie channels. But those are the only channels that I found ithat didn't work. I didn't go through all the channels. At one point some of the channels didn't have a signal. The charging units are outstayed. The they only have USB charging units and three prong outlets. Overall if you want to save a few bucks, don't need a tiny bit of luxury or you don't need a good free breakfast, a high tech place, or a lot of amenities and would like to stay in a somewhat comfortable bed and clean place then Quality Inn is your place.
