Saw an invitation on Craigslist for an open jam for blues musicians on Thursday nights. It clearly stated that there were no set bands, and that it was an opportunity for people to play who didn't usually have a venue. My partner is an amazing guitarist, and I wanted him to branch out and meet some other local musicians as we live just down the street. When we arrived ready to play the guy in charge, who apparently placed the ad seemed baffled by my partner expecting an opportunity to play. My fiance asked if he could just play one song, but was told he could join in, by jumping in cold to the set of songs . He didn't know the songs, and these people have been playing together for years. Though the group was very friendly, their questions in an effort to "vet" his talent came off as insular. I ultimately regretted telling him to bring his amp and guitar. He also brought his buddy with him, who is a fine bass player. If they wanted to see if they were good enough to play, just hold an audition. They would have blown them away. The "blues jam" advertised on Thursday nights is not really an open invitation. What could be a great watering hole for musicians is really a clique of people who have been playing for years and are looking for a larger audience; which is fine, just don't advertise yourselves as an open jam, having "no set band." They have a set band, and unfortunately for them, they missed out on hearing some amazing local talent. We won't come back. read more

I had forgot how much fun Spancky's is. I had only hung out at this bar as a yearly stop on the way to the Redwood Run, which over a 12 year period really did not give me the full scope of what Spancky's is like. This past weekend I was up staying with my friend and she took me on the Cotati Crawl and basically the tour of bars in Sonoma. Jamie and Diana were working the night I was there, I actually met the owner Friday afternoon and he was really great to us. We were able to park our bikes right in front of the the bar, which was great. Cotati is tiny so you run into everyone in the town and everyone knows everyone else. Good drinks, there were bands on Friday and Saturday night, decent enough. Bathrooms were very clean! Lot's of ECV and biker eye candy, be prepared for lot's of cop action. read more

Again, part of the Cotati crawl. fun place and usually a good crowd and good DJs. during the day/week its typically a biker bar, but on thursday nights through the weekend its a pretty fun college bar. Always eye candy out and about. read more

Every Monday at 9:30pm Spancky's has a great 'all comedy' open mic hosted by the very funny Nate P. He's loosely dubbed it "Positivity Mondays". There are plenty of laughs from aspiring comedians trying new material and working on their chops and check this out, It's free. Expect to hear some rough, edgy, raw and polished material from comedians of different levels of experience. Newbies to pros this friendly scene has it all. read more

Love this place, classic dive bar. Monday night comedy can range from Hilarious, to painfully awkward. Sunday's are cool too.

When there is the first time with a new owners they were wonderful. Dog friendly and half price drinks on sundays all day. Faith was a sweetheart and even took a picture of me in my dog. They definitely have a bunch of new clients with me and my friends thanks for a great day read more

First off, the bartender. Oh lord. She's heavier set, and blonde. And doesn't look like she's smiled once in her life. She's extremely rude, and under pours. I asked for a vodka cranberry, and I don't think there was vodka in it at all. So, I said screw it lets just go for shots then. My shot of vodka was HOT. And it wasn't the shot glass. The liquor was straight up hot. Like what? Gross. I tried to be very polite but by the third time of me asking for a lime, I was pissed. She flat out ignored me and walked to the other end of the bar. My friend asked her for a like and she rolled her eyes and threw one across the bar top. I'm sorry, am I missing something here? Aside from that, the other staff seems friendly, but holy hell it would be nice to have a light in the bathroom! It's like trying to pee in the dark in there. Spanky's Bar is a great place for Live Music, Cold Beer & Good Times just like the sign says. Support your local Musicians which you can find on Spanky's stage most Friday and Saturday nights! The band I'm in Cross Legged Dogs had our first live show here last summer and what a night it was. Spanky's will always have a place in my heart and I can tell you this place is a hidden treasure worth finding! The staff were extremely nice and very attentive to everyone. Place gets crowded which tells me it is the place to be. I think this place is the coolest and I'm glad I found it. I only give this bar one star because negative stars isn't an option. I used to live nearby in my college days, and was very excited to come back with some friends of mine from the city. Only, I discovered that the bartenders, "security" and patrons are rude and ignorant. They treated my friend so poorly I'm ashamed to say I had ever frequented this bar in my youth, and while I wish it wasn't true, they treated him poorly, and thereby all of us, simply because he is gay. They stole his money, literally, and then proceeded with behavior that I truly cannot discuss, for it was so degrading and disgusting. Do not support this bar!! They believe in hate and prejudice and will become violent to uphold it. They do not deserve your business! read more

DO NOT EVER GO THERE FOR St.Patty's...My boyfriend and I decided to go to Cotati for some drinks.. the line for Friar Tucks was insanely long so we decided to go to Spancky's since there was no line to get in. We stood at the bar to get a drink for about 30 minutes. The rude bartender served everybody that was coming in and ordering from the center of the bar and us on the right got no love. Every time I got her attention she wouldn't even let me speak and said i will be right with you. Then 30 minutes later she finally comes to our side and purposely asks the girls next to us what they wanted to drink.. these girls just walked in and took the spot of the person who was also trying to get a drink and left.. as I said something to her she looked at me and said "well, I can take two orders at the same time so hold on"... WTFF at this point I wanted to rip her hair out. Finally she takes our order and then says SORRY no credit cards, cash only!! OMGGG it was the worst experience EVER. So we went back to Friar Tucks and waited in a long line outside, got in in 10 minutes and served in 5 minutes.. And the bar was so packed you couldn't even walk through. I will never ever go back to Spancky's even if it was the last bar standing. read more

I did not really like it here. It was very busy and loud when I went, and the bartender seemed burnt out and ready to go home, which she probably was. There was a live comedy show though, which was different and fun, but it was hard to hear due to the noise. I also think a big part of getting cocktails at a bar is the presentation, in which case this place truly failed me. I ordered a Lemondrop, typically served in a martini glass with a lemon garnish and sugar around the rim, but it was served to me here in a plain glass like you would see in your own kitchen with no garnish or anything. It tasted fine, but it lacked in appearance, which disappointed me. It also took a very long time for the single bartender to take our drink orders, make the drinks, and then take our money, because they were so busy. read more
