New Home Build - 2025 (we moved-in July of 2025)
We chose Spaces Designer Homes after interviewing multiple builders. Meeting Doug gave us confidence -- he listened, collaborated, and felt like the right partner. Unfortunately, once the contract was signed, Doug was no longer involved, and working with Tracy and her team left us deeply disappointed.
Positives:
* Doug's sales process was collaborative and thorough.
* Our home was completed close to the planned timeline.
* The finished product looks good overall.
Negatives:
* The "design team" lacks true design/project management experience.
* The cabinet company they use is poor in quality, tools, and service.
* Our project came in 10% over budget -- about half due to allowances being unrealistically lowballed during bidding, we believe that was a tactic to win our business.
* Communication was the worst part: meetings weren't documented, and even written instructions were often misinterpreted or ignored.
* Subcontractors caused issues: language barriers, property misused/disrespected (burn pits in the yard, kids running on our dock), and mistakes like permanently ruining our staircase.
* Tracy frequently ignored requests, failed to coordinate with contractors, and refused to acknowledge mistakes. Examples include:
o Upon move-in we told her multiple times about warranty issues that she refused to acknowledge, told us that it was correct, not broken. Such as fireplace blowers, front door handle being broken, etc. Which all ended up getting replaced, but we had to fight her every step of the way.
o Closet rods installed at the wrong height.
o Cabinets ordered incorrectly, with extra costs passed to us.
o Pantry trim dismissed as "too complicated," while leftover materials went unused.
o Pool installed 2 inches too high due to lack of communication with installers.
Final Thoughts:
Our home looks fine from the outside, but the process was stressful, communication was poor, and mistakes were permanent. If you choose Spaces, document everything, take photos, and don't expect accountability from leadership. Tracy in capable of owning her mistakes and forces clients to feel like you are at fault, even when you can prove her wrong. Please know this going in. read more
