When you've been in a house for a while, one of the big money things you're confronted with is a…read moreroof replacement. Fortunately I've gotten in and out of previous homes before having to tackle this but now, the time has come. After talking to several companies and reviewing proposals, I chose Smart Roofing Systems. Smart has done many homes in my neighborhood and everyone had good things to say about them. My experience was no exception. One difference I noticed about Smart vs. other companies is that instead of having a huge dumpster placed in your driveway, they used an open trailer on wheels allowing for easy removal of the debris each day. I also liked the fact that this left no marks on the asphalt driveway like some heavy dumpster can do. The crews put in extremely long days and did an amazing clean up. When you tear down a roof, shingles, nails, etc. go everywhere. The job site remained neat and the daily and final clean up was superb. Smart was extremely easy to do business with. Great, responsive communications and follow up. I tend to ask a lot of questions especially given the costs involved. Never was I left hanging. I highly recommend Smart Roofing Systems.

Looking forward to having our old roof from 20+ years removed and replaced tomorrow, 07/24/25! Well fellow homeowners, our roof has been replaced in less than 8 hours? What is most amazing is that it was 100 degrees today in SW Michigan? What literally perfect hard workers and team removing our old roof and a professional and beautiful replacement in this 100 degree combined hot and humid day at our home in Vicksburg Michigan! I spoke in the Yelp chat with questions to the owner Richard Paige in Rockford, MI., who certainly knew all the questions he answered without hesitation and it revealed his knowledge of all the aspects we needed to know! We could not have been more impressed, and we made the decision to have our roof replaced in the very next week he was able to fit us into! A week ago our new premium was due and having our initial roof replaced today, we were able to obtain a credit of $617! Ask your agent about this because it was apparent our roof was old enough that it was raising the cost of our annual premium! We never knew that, but we must also honestly inform all homeowners that insurance companies are very concerned about possible claims because of aging roofs, which seemed fairly obvious, but it "woke us up" when faced with a 50% increase in the past 2 years? Thankfully our agent was definitely helpful and on our side in advising us we could save so much by spending a very reasonable amount with Smart Roofing out of Rockford who replied to me on the YELP APP almost immediately and the rest was history! We are now one week later very thankful this was communicated so well by the owner Richard Paige! We advise anyone in need of reducing sudden increases in homeowners premiums to do a small amount of research, and we sure hope our advice is helpful to all? Sincerely, Mike & Kathy

April 4th we experienced a hail storm. A couple of days later I noticed water running out from under our siding and it had not rained for more than 24 hours. We phoned Dave and he was unable to get to our office until after we closed. Due to the storm in the area he checked the roof and was at the office the next morning to tell us what he had found. We reported to our insurance company, he met the insurance adjuster, he scheduled for everything to be done and he worked around the criteria we needed worked around at our office and we not have a beautiful new roof. He communicates very well and keeps you updated on what is happening. Susan, Middleville, MI

And he also wanted me to take down my review on this site. Why would I take down a review for someone who did such a bad job and now wants even more $$$$ to fix his crap job. Which we already paid what we signed the contract for. Next step, get a lawyer, report him into Michigan's Lic. Broad. If he really has a Lic. The other day, went out to water plants and saw siding laying on the ground, again, looked up saw it was from the dorms where he put up siding. As for his line of If anything is not done right, he'll come back out & fix it, he just couldn't live with himself, etc... what a line of crap. Because he won't come back to fix anything and has an excuse for everything, not his fault.

It was the same story with the same result. Only when I demanded my down payment back that I got a call. He told me that the new time frame would be within the first two weeks of November. Well...Same story, same results. They are not calling me back and I fear that we are going into winter where the job cannot be done. I am to the point of calling the BBB as well as Kent County if I cannot get my down payment back. This is fraud if they insist on keeping my money for services never rendered. I am so through with them.

Getting started with Irish was easy and they were a reasonable price, not the lowest or highest. If…read morewe didn't have skylights I don't think their work would have leaked causing severe damage and we would not have noticed they substituted off brand materials. Irish didn't use all Certain-Teed materials as quoted and required by the manufacturer's warranty we paid for. With the complete roof installation, Irish quoted and installed custom flashing for our skylights. This leaked less than 10 days after install of a completely new roof in a home that passed a home inspection less than a year prior with zero history of water damage. They attempted to cover the leak by adding caulk and overall didn't resolve the issue or cover damages. We had to remove much of our dining room ceiling, decorative wood trim, and insulation. Irish offered ($2,400) which was less than 50% of damages and wanted us to pay them that same amount of money for materials to redo the work according to them the way they should have done it originally. We would have had to sign a NDA to receive this small amount of money. We chose to pay another company to redo Irish's work they way it should have originally been done. These repair costs were in addition to damages. During this process we found the underlayment installed by Irish was not branded Certain-Teed as quoted and required by the warranty we paid Irish for, it was substituted for Tri-Shield without permission. If you use Irish don't let them near skylights and check all materials to ensure it matches your sales agreement.

A serious warning to anyone considering Irish for a home project…read more I rarely write negative reviews, but our experience with Irish Roofing and Exteriors has been deeply frustrating, and I feel obligated to warn others. I hired Irish Roofing after a storm caused tree damage and water intrusion to my home. I reached out to Irish Roofing in November 2024 hoping to work with a contractor that understood both construction and insurance claims. Initially, their representative seemed knowledgeable and professional. He made valid recommendations to ensure my home was properly restored--including replacing water-damaged roof decking and involving a county inspector to verify compliance with building codes. But once that representative left the company, everything unraveled. My case was passed along to several people. It was made clear that the insurance estimate alone was insufficient, and the original representative of Irish Roofing agreed--in writing and in communication with my insurance provider (State Farm)--that more extensive repairs were necessary. We entered into the project with a clearly defined and insurance-approved scope of work--ten specific line items. Unfortunately, the work that was completed bore little resemblance to what was agreed upon. Instead of performing the necessary repairs, Irish's crew carried out what amounted to a superficial and inadequate 2x4 patch job. We had a clearly defined scope of work, line items one through ten, which was approved by our insurance company. However, Mike stated he had "a lot of notes... " Rather than completing the agreed-upon repairs, the crew did what amounted to an inadequate 2x4 patch job. Additionally, I requested the installation of a vent fan in the master bathroom. Not only was it left half-attached, but it was installed 15 feet away from where it was supposed to go. This level of negligence is unacceptable from any professional contractor. To make matters worse, they attempted to bill me for the full scope of work--even though it was blatantly obvious that the job was not completed per the agreement. Adding to the terrible experience, was the conduct of the project lead, who provided false and misleading information to our insurance company. He claimed, among other things, that our basement bathroom was improperly vented. The problem? We do not have a basement bathroom. This false statement, along with other inaccuracies, was cited by our insurance provider as justification to deny further coverage--an outcome that directly harmed our claim and left us with unresolved, out-of-pocket repairs. An inspector from the Ionia County building department--who got involved after the fact--confirmed this: the repairs were superficial and the documented damage was not properly addressed. As of now, our roof is leaking--further evidence of the poor quality and lack of attention to detail in the work that was done. Since all of this transpired, my calls and emails have been ignored, and the only "resolution" offered by Irish's president, Chris Flatly, was that they would waive the charge, as if doing shoddy work and walking away from the job was an acceptable outcome. In summary, this experience was not only unprofessional, but also deceptive and damaging. I would strongly urge homeowners to avoid Irish Roofing and Exteriors. Seek out a contractor who values transparency, honors their commitments, communicates clearly, and stands behind their work. Irish failed us on every one of those fronts. The bottom line: * They made promises and broke them. * They deceived me about involving an inspector. * They performed substandard work, ignored structural damage, and may have introduced new damage to my home. * They made false statements to my insurance adjustor, and hurt my claim * They misrepresented the job as complete and billed for it. Homeowners: Protect yourselves. Look elsewhere. Don't let Irish Roofing and Exteriors jeopardize your home, or insurance claim, like they did mine.
