When the job was complete, they had this cool tool that they rolled around her yard that picked up all of the roofing nails. She has an older dog that still likes to play in the yard. So I know that she really appreciated the extra effort they put toward the cleanup when they were done.

I, of course, said no because we had already hired a different contractor. I have no trust in Mr. Roof because of how they treated me. They called about a week later to tell me they would drop materials off to finish the roof. I was confused and confirmed that they would not charge me, and the guy said they were not since it was their mistake. I let them finish the roof....they then promptly sent me a bill when it was finished. I'm very disappointed with Mr. Roof, and it's disgusting how they run the company in Grand Rapids. The roof is now done, but I feel scammed. I should have gone to arbitration or small claims, but I don't have time or money for their corporate shenanigans. I recommend any roofer over Mr. Roof. No one else could be this bad. I also reviewed Mr. Roof on Google reviews, and it is not showing up after a few weeks of it being up. It makes me wonder if they flag reviews they do not like. Original post: I would not recommend Mr. Roof. The company did not complete my roof and has been unwilling to resolve it by simply finishing the job. It was a mistake on Mr. Roof's end, and they are reluctant to take responsibility. Instead, they gave me a second quote for the missed section saying it wasn't "part" of the original quote, so I needed to pay extra. I already had the entire roof quoted and signed a contract agreeing to the terms, but they are not honoring it. What is the point of signing a contract if they do not complete the job? I'm not sure if this is something that should be submitted to the Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, BBB or if I should get a different contractor. Longer version: I was happy with Mr. Roof until I noticed they still needed to complete my roof. I saw a roof section that had all the old roofing patches, patches, etc. I contacted them about it, and they said they would look into it. They did reach out until I spoke with someone later at their office. When I finally received a phone call, they confirmed they missed a portion of the roof and would send me another quote to get it done. I asked why I would need another quote to have my roof done when it should have been completed the first time. I already signed a contract with Mr. Roof with the expectation that the entire house and garage roof would be shingled. I was just told sorry mistakes happen and that he can knock a couple of hundred dollars off the second quote. I tried to explain that Mr. Roof should hold up their end of the deal to have my roof completed, but they have not been responsive or seem even to care they messed up. My wife called the Grand Rapids locations office and got a runaround that went nowhere. We are still waiting to hear back on if they'll work with me or have some remediation. I am still unsure how they could miss a whole roof section and just walk away and give me a statement of completion. What would have happened if I did not notice and the roof leaked? Would they have honored their warranty or said they were not responsible for that portion of the roof because they did not shingle it? I recently called other contractors/roofers to see what they would do in this situation, and they said to keep reaching out to Mr. Roof to complete the job. I am still determining if that will happen based on the lack of response and their attitude on the phone. I may have to call a different company to finish what Mr. Roof did not.

I explained to each of them that I was bidding the work out and that the work would be won not only on competitive price (Not the lowest), but also quality of product, references, experience (Years in business), total insurance and liability, and overall comfort with their sales rep. The job I was having done was a complete tear off with new shingles being installed. Dave Jr. from Allied came to the house and did a great job of asking the right questions, listening to my concerns, and providing a comprehensive scope of work for the job. While other companies had great presentations that focused on why them, Dave was very straight to the point with me. He explained what he could do and when they could get it done. Dave recognized that I did a tremendous amount of research as I was asking more technical questions of him. He didn't bore me with a 45 minute presentation. In my opinion, the market is flooded with roofers who all say they have the latest and greatest products. Because of this, I learned a lot about the technology out there. Having said this, I went back to Allied and spec'ed out what I wanted on my roof. I chose diamond synthetic for the underlaying, Certainteed Pro Hi-Def for the shingles, and shingle vent II for the vents. There was a lot more they did like reflashing the drain waste vents, ice and water shield (6ft), and replaced drip edge flashing to name a few. They completely accommodated my request and resubmitted their bid. It came in spot-on! I chose Allied because I felt most comfortable with them. I didn't feel like I was being sold, rather, that they just listened and offered me solutions that worked for me. They have been in business for a long time (more than 75 years) and are a family owned company. When all was said and done, they were the lowest bid as well. This was the icing on the cake. On the day of the install, their workers showed up early. They started working almost immediately. I went and got them some Gatorade in the middle of the day and offered to get pizza but they instead opted to go out to lunch somewhere. They finished the entire job in one day. I was absolutely amazed. I was able to look at the materials they were using before they got started to verify that they were using what I spec'ed out and everything was just right. I highly recommend using Allied. I have already given their contact information to two of my neighbors who also need roofs. I explained all the work I went through to get bids and that they should just make one call to Allied. I trust that Dave Jr. and his team will do a great job. Side note: Hansons is SUPER expensive and to be honest, if you spec out the materials you want with Allied, you can get everything they offer and more for less money. Their money back guarantee seemed nice but their price match policy is a joke. They will only match pricing if you have to replace 100 sq ft of plywood. Otherwise, you are out of luck. My roof was fine so I was automatically disqualified for price match. I feel as though if I were to go to Allied and tell them I was unhappy with the work, they would do everything they could to fix it. So in that respect, Allied matches everything that Hansons said they would do. Also, I found the Hansons sales rep to be overbearing. He didn't understand that I already did a lot of research and continued to try to sell me stuff I didn't want or need for that matter. My experiences with Snyder, Above, and Moore and Sons were fine.
