This is a combo business with this being the coffee and snack place, and Stix n Brix being the pizza place. I've been to both multiple times. Let me first say the this is EXACTLY the kind of business this area needs. God food, good drink, good coffee and good people. I love the coffee here. Very good quality, fast service and good prices. Add to that that you can get a shot of booze in it if you want, so fucking awesome. The sandwiches here are amazing as well. I've had several and never been disappointed. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful either. The pizzas here are very solid as well. Good personal size, perfect for lunch, and maybe an additional meal too. Thank you Red Line Cafe for bringing some additional caffeination to Bridgeport along with the tasty eats! The menu is straightforward and serves up some nice breakfast and lunch options, and it's a chill atmosphere. Staff is very nice, and the vibe I get is so friendly. Boy, what a disappointment. I know I have not been here for a while, but two star items have become unrecognizable to my taste buds. I should have read the menu more closely. The Red line smoothie used to be beets, dates, strawberries, and orange juice. Now it is strawberries, raspberries, apples, and sweetened hibiscus. Emphasizing sweet here. Now I understand that beets are everybody's cup of Joe, but it was really good. Was I really the only one ordering it. I also got the vegetable panini. A panini it was not. Lightly grilled probably on something close to a George Forman grill, because it did have the stripes on the one side. But what it was missing was the vegetables. I remember the zucchini, peppers, and onions being sautéed. These were raw and shaved and barely present. This should have been the heart of the sandwich, not the way too large mound of arugula. Then when it was pressed with the hummus and avocado (hummus was barely noticeable, I saw no avocado) it would make a messy but quite delicious sandwich. This review only covers today's visit. As I said, I have been away for a while. But not too long. The machine recognized my card and awarded me my points. Thank you for that. I am hoping the avocado toast fairs better, and that the coffee is still as good as I remember. And the young man who waited on me was pleasant and professional. Nice little restaurant, it is part of another brand or have a joint name with another restaurant, which is fine but confused us a little when we got there. I got the purple line juice, which I really loved. Went there for breakfast so we also got avocado toast, panini, and a couple of blueberry breads. They all tasted pretty good, the avocado toast is not really that much better than I can make at home, but I do appreciate the simplicity and the good quality ingredients. The staff are friendly and got our food pretty quickly. Can't wait to come back and try some of their wood oven pizza. P.S. their desserts selection is kind of weak tho. read more

Came in on a Saturday morning and loved it! Very rustic vibes, plenty of outlets for working, both tables and bar seating. It was a sunny Saturday morning so it was pretty busy, but still able to find a seat. You order at the counter then find a seat after, like most coffee shops. Staff here is all super friendly! You are able to see the entire coffee bar AND the kitchen which is great! And there is free street parking, as long as its not a Sox game day. Food wise - there is a variety of coffee, specialty drinks, breakfast (includes sandwiches, French toast, avocado toast, bagel, frittata; typically closes at 1130), smoothies, lunch sandwiches, and pizza! I got a light roast coffee, green line smoothie, and ham & egg breakfast sandwich on a brioche bun, all for $16. Which isn't bad especially for Chicago! The coffee had a great flavor but the sandwich was INCREDIBLE. Honestly one of the best I've ever had. The egg was runny, the sandwich was savory but also had a hint of sweet; topped with spinach and tomato. I will definitely be back! read more

Don't usually review on one visit but this place is relatively new and it seems like they are doing things right so far. Atmosphere is nice- brick and sunny with a glass panel garage door up front. Seating looks out over Sox park or Comiskey or whatever name i refuse to call it these days. Coffee options are standard for indie shops--the drip coffee didn't disappoint or impress. The baked good are notable because they make them in-house, including the homemade pop tart which was flaky and butter in all the good ways. WiFi was blazing fast which made it an ideal place to get a little work done. This place attaches to a sit-down pizza joint by the same owner and you can order the pizzas at the counter on the coffee shop side. We'll see how that works out. Nice place to hang out enjoying sunshine from big window in Sunday morning. Place was neatly maintained, wifi is provided and worked well. Made order at the casher but serve food by the table, I liked this way :) Nitro cold brew was smooth and I can feel the fruit notes which was nice. However, it is not iced although it in the cold menu. French toast was great. Nice way of adding cinamon to the batter I think. read more

After my yoga class my friend and I wanted to grab a bite to eat. I read the reviews and we decided to check it out. It was our lucky day because we were able to park by the Sox park because there wasn't a game today (the cashier later told us that it was the World's Series and they weren't in it). I ordered the banana bread French toast and my friend ordered the avocado toast. We both ordered a yellow line smoothie which is served in a mason jar! The food is delicious. I didn't need any syrup or honey for the French toast, and my friend said that her avocado toast was delicious. The smoothie was not too sweet and I was pleased about that. Red Line is located in the same space as Stix & Brix, however it's the sandwich lunchie sort of thing. I've been to both often because every time I've gone there the food is excellent, the service is friendly, and the value outstanding. I love their stubby sandwiches, you can choose between one or two, most times I like to get two, I'll eat one there and tell them to wrap the other to go. The last time I did this I ordered the turkey (Boar's Head BTW) I forgot about it in my refrigerator for three days, the bag got pushed back, I came across it and was glad I did. I took both sides of the delicious bun off and heated them up in my toaster oven, it was almost as good as freshly made. I'm not big into leftovers, unless they hold up. not much does, but this delivers. For a quality sandwich, this place truly is as good as it gets. Simply no room to improve it. read more

We were headed to a Sox game and just needed a bite before we headed in. The menu has a great variety of food, snacks, and drinks. Next time I'm getting a smoothie! My friend and I were visiting from other states and were sent to a completely trashy beach with promises of amazing food. Needless to say ....the amazing was lacking from the food. We quickly used Yelp to try to find something nearby as we were beyond starving at this point having not eaten anything all day and it was 3pm. We arrived at Red Line Cafe and were a bit unsure if it was open as there was limited activity but then again it was off times for eating. There was a nice gentleman at the front who explained the food options to me and I chose the chicken salad sandwich. The bread was great! It tasted homemade and was served warm which was unexpected with the cold chicken salad but it worked. The chicken salad was not the best I've had but it was pretty good. I regret not trying the adult grilled cheese or the grilled chicken sandwich. The cans of soda are super over priced but I felt the sandwich cost was fair. We also ordered a pizza to go which we intended to eat later at the beach which never happened. I will always wonder how delicious that pizza was...RIP Fig and Pig Pizza. :( read more

Aptly named after the nearby Red Line stop, this cafe is a favorite study spot of mine in the area. The atmosphere is quiet and bright. The big windows in the front allow lots of sunlight into the building, something I enjoy to have when I am studying! The WiFi is also pretty good which makes it easy to get your work done as well! The drink menu is limited, but they offer all the staples coffee shops should: coffee, tea, and a few smoothies. I ended up getting a matcha latte and really enjoyed it. It was slightly sweetened which I liked a lot! The food menu is a little bigger since the cafe is joined to a restaurant, and they share a kitchen! For lunch, my sister and I decided to split a prosciutto and arugula pizza. The pizza is the size of a personal pizza and is pretty filling. While tasty, I thought it was a little expensive ($14) for the size of the pizza. Overall, I enjoyed this cafe immensely. The nice atmosphere and food will be bringing me back very soon! read more

I cannot talk this place up enough. They have great coffee (I specifically like the medium roast drip), a variety of adult beverages including local beer and wine, delicious wood fired pizza (Italian style so it's almost more of a snack than a meal great breakfasts (unlike most coffee shops on the south side they actually fry eggs up in house). It is a very bright atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating with a retractable garage door that stays open when the weather is nice. They have reliable WiFi, making this a good place to be productive, and super friendly staff. This has become a go to spot for getting work done and for just hanging with friends. Always met with friendly service, consistently good coffee and good pastries. This is a great place to get work done! Most of the time it's pretty quiet and the WiFi speed is solid. You can order pizza here too where it's made right next door using a wood fired oven. I tried their prosciutto and arugula pizza which was pretty good, just a bit overpriced ($15 for a personal sized pizza). Super sweet people working when I stopped in. I'm normally not in this part of Chicago and it was very pleasant to find this place. There's a park right across the street. The gluten-free crust is house made every morning (according to barista) and although it has somewhat of steep upcharge (over $3 for a 10" pie) & wasn't totally peerless in quality, it was very delicious and worth returning for. There aren't many options around IIT, let alone quality ones. The food on campus is pretty dismal and I wasn't expecting the surrounding area to offer much better. To my surprise, Red Line Cafe blew my expectations out of the water and provided some much needed refreshment and joy. FOOD: 4 stars I got the TURKEY & PROVOLONE SANDWICH, half size. It came on a soft, square ciabatta like bread. The meat was tender and the flavor was full. It had a hint of sweetness, which left a nice aftertaste. Not a single crumb was left! I was a bit surprised how the price of the full sized sandwich was over $10, which was the main reason I got the half size, but I didn't feel cheated by the amount I got. I used the free pastry deal on Yelp to get the CRANBERRY, ORANGE MUFFIN, which was absolutely delicious. Fantastic hint of orange and the proportions of cranberry to dough was great. The crust had a great flavor, as well. I would definitely get this again. SERVICE: 4.5 stars I came at an off time, so I was the only one ordering. The woman who greeted me was cheerful, attentive, and gave me candid advice when I asked about what I should or shouldn't get. I appreciate this so much! After I placed my order, she politely asked me to take a seat and she would bring the food to me, which she did after 5 or 6 minutes. All-in-all a great interaction and smooth process. Again, I came during a slow period, so any quality establishment should be able to do this much. AMBIANCE: 4 stars The main light source came from the large windows. I don't recall there being any lighting inside. This made for a lot of shadows inside and there wasn't much warmth in terms of lighting. It would've helped for them to have warm lights shining around the ordering area to make the ordering station even more welcoming. The inside had a nice vibe with soft lighting and lots of wood panelling. There is another large seating area behind a wall, which was a bit surprising, but both areas seemed nice. I had the pleasure of visiting Redline Almost every day for the two weeks I attended a training at the college nearby. The atmosphere and service and so peasant, the crowds aren't ever too crazy, and the food was excellent. I stopped in for coffee each afternoon and on a few occasions also ate lunch. I tried the prosciutto/arugula pizza, the margarita pizza, the big kid grilled cheese, and the chicken salad sandwich. I think the pizzas were more food than is needed for one person for lunch, could easily be shared by two. The sandwiches were also delicious and a good price.... they call them stubbies and you can double the portion for a few bucks more, but one is plenty with a bag of chips! I'll be back for the iced mocha latte, which I wasn't too sweet, thank goodness. read more

This cafe is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood both for commuters, locals, and students of nearby college campuses. It's conveniently located right by the CTA red line entrance at 33rd street. I have not tried the pizzas or sandwiches yet but the coffee is so much better than Starbucks it's criminal. The pastries are also very tasty and the menu items here seem reasonably priced. It is a short walk from IIT campus which is also convenient. Every staff encounter I have had here has also been positive. They are attentive and professional and the place is very clean. Make sure to check in and get a free pastry. It's a cool place that seems to be a renovated garage (you can still traces of the garage). I go here because I live and go to school nearby and I like that there's a cafe to go to without having to go downtown to study, or just hang out with friends when you need a break from being at home/school.
