First time here and first time eating at a spot in Blue Island Went here to celebrate a birthday The place is a cool size, nice and quaint. I think it was a bit dark inside but it was cute. Love the maps on the walls. The concept is cool to have different food items from over the globe. Loved that! I had the shrimp bao thrn I ordered the chicken bao. Both were amazing! Executive Chef Jennifer Gavin is a STAR as evinced by her performance on Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen, but this restaurant missed a five star rating by a mile. The service was second to none (thank you Deja), but the restaurant is sterile, cold and the music selection is a radio station the staff apparently likes and played way too loud during a morning brunch. This seems like a prep spot for her catering venture and not a five star dining establishment. In fact, there is NOTHING 5-Star about this dining experience. Even the website demonstrates that her focus is on catering large events--evidenced by the catering menus being featured and not the dining menus. As for the food, it was good, but nothing was exceptional. We shared the "Exotic Fruit & Berry Mosaic Board" -- a medley of delicious fresh fruit. My wife had the "Brioche French Toast" - French toast, eggs and choice of meat: (Pork Bacon, Turkey Bacon, Veggie Sausage, Chicken & Apple Sausage, Turkey Sausage). My son tried the Belgian waffles with bourbon maple syrup, eggs and sausage as the "choice of meat." I ordered a simple Belgian Waffle and was going to eat my wife's eggs and sausage since she hadn't eaten them. (Hmmmm????) I understand why she passed. The eggs were bland and the sausage links had an awful aftertaste. With all due respect, if you're not going to season the eggs, PLEASE put salt and pepper on the tables. $115 seemed ridiculously high for the quality of the food and no alcohol--and I've paid twice as much with no complaints at Virtue, Asciones etc. It breaks my heart to have not really enjoyed Easter Brunch at Edible Passport, but it felt like a bit of a dive, not a fine dining experience. read more

The floors were extremely sticky and dirty when we walked in, that's when we decided to get gumbo to go. Before that we were actually going to sit and have a meal inside, but the sticky floor and the weird smell was so off putting. Most people would've just walked out but not us. We decided what it's called passport so sometimes you go to foreign countries and things are a little bit off and you still eat and learn about the culture. That was a stupid mistake because we're in America, in blue Island, Illinois. I should've known better. The "seafood" gumbo was so absolutely disgusting and appalling smelling that we shared it with other people just to make sure we weren't just being food snobs we weren't. The food was terrible. I was very excited to try this place. But, very disappointed when I got the food. Out of the 6 things ordered, only one has an actual good taste worth eating again, that was the Bao buns. Everything else lacked flavor and was just very dry. We also ordered the steak medium rare but it was pretty well done instead. The truffle fries were good too. But, I would pass on the snapper, steak frites and gumbo. If you still decide to go, put the Lawrys in your purse or pocket.... But, kudos to the server, Monica!! She had it down!! I wasn't disappointed in this place at all. I went for a late lunch. It was only me and my friend there and someone at the bar. This is a hidden gem. There was only 1 person working. She may have been the owner or manager. She was very nice and attentive. The watermelon margarita was delicious. Sliders werent dried out. I had the gumbo, very flavorful but definitely tasted better the next day. Only complaint I had about the food, there wasn't enough truffle on the fries. I will definitely be back. The space where they are was another restaurant, I used to dine there. The restaurant is currently using the furniture from the other restaurant, which I get is cheaper. I don't know if it was the building or the furniture but it smelled old and musty. Just need to have some wall plug ins, or something. read more

This place is a must visit! The owner was a contestant on Hell's Kitchen. I stopped in for dessert and had the bread pudding. My friend had the pineapple rum cake. The bread pudding was good, but the rum cake was amazing. Both came with a side of ice cream and fresh berries. Our waitress was very nice. She greeted us as soon as we came in. She made some suggestions of things we could try, so I will definitely be back to take her up on some of those suggestions. The place is very nicely decorated. If I could give Edible Passport zero stars, I would. My daughter works there, and what happened this past Friday is absolutely unforgivable. She was scheduled to work but had a major college final in Medical Terminology. She did the responsible thing--she spoke directly with the owner, Chef Jen, and received clear permission to leave at 1:30 PM to take her exam and return afterward. This conversation happened right in front of the manager, Monica. But the moment Chef Jen walked out the door, Monica decided to play power games. Instead of honoring the agreement she witnessed, she kept piling on pointless, menial tasks--stalling and stalling--until she finally let my daughter leave at 3:00 PM. By then, the testing window at the college (which is literally two blocks away) was closed. Her professor was on her way out of the country and no exception could be made. My daughter spiraled into a full-blown panic attack--hyperventilating, crying, unable to breathe--because her entire semester now hangs on a zero she had no control over. Her solid B average is gone, and she now has to pay and retake the entire class next semester. All because Monica decided that petty authority was more important than a young single mother's education and future. How unbelievably selfish of you, Monica. I genuinely thought women supported other women, especially young mothers trying to better themselves. But apparently, your need to feel relevant outweighed basic human decency. Maybe it stings knowing your sister is the owner and you'll forever be stuck as the manager who abuses the tiny scraps of power she has. As a patient advocate and as a mother, I was furious. I told my daughter to go back in, grab her things, and walk out for good--because no job is worth sacrificing your education for someone's insecurity-driven control issues. And because I am a God-fearing woman, I don't wish harm on people--but I do hope karma clocks in for you right on time. I hope your whole body itches the second you step out of the shower. I hope your left leg and right leg switch. I hope your top lip grows bigger than your bottom lip. I hope you wake up alone on a deserted island. I hope someone calls to bless you with money, but your phone is on silent. I hope you fart every time you blink. I hope every time you laugh people can tell your breath stink. I hope all your hair falls out the moment you comb it. I hope you call the police and they put you on eternal hold. I hope you get your flu shot and catch a forever cold. I don't wish violence, but I absolutely hope the universe gives you every ounce of inconvenience you gave my daughter--and then some. Shame on you, Monica. I put in an order about a year in advance for my 50th birthday but my children surprised me and wanted to provide the catering for my birthday party.I reached back out to edible passports within the required time to change my order because I still wanted to use them for dessert. I started contacting them on 06/09/25 to advised what I wanted to change. I sent a text message to Dennis he told me someone will reach out to me and they did. I advised them of what I wanted to change and they said they will send me an updated invoice. Life happened and my birthday is approaching but I hadn't received the updated invoice. I reached out via phone and left my message with no response in 09/2025. Stopped by the restaurant left information on the form with no response. I sent emails and after the third email received a voicemail asking for a call back on 10/02/2025. I returned Wendy's cal the same day l and she had the worst customer service. She was very nasty after I explained what I wanted to do. She didn't want to and did not use my deposit toward my updated request. So my money is in the wind and I need to find someone else for the desert for my party. I am surprised and disappointed in how this has turned out because I wanted to support the busines. However, the condescending and disrespectful way that I was treat they will not receive anymore of my business or referrals. If I could do less than 1 star I would. We catered with Edible Passport for a family birthday party in our home. First, Dennis was great to work with and was very kind and patient when I changed my mind/order. He worked hard to keep our budget with suggestions for app(s) and main entree. We had our food delivered and it showed up on time and the presentation was wonderful. Next, the food was unbelievably delicious! We ordered the mini lamb chops as an appetizer and then served the greek inspired food as a buffet. A local Facebook group organized a night out at Edible Passport, and it was such a fun night! The location is great - a block down from The Lyric Theater - so will definitely be back for a pre-show dinner. We were treated to a dinner around the world, with a variety of flavor profiles. Each course was plated beautifully. The caesar salad was elevated with its delicious pickled tomatoes. I really enjoyed the samosa - very flavorful. The risotto was absolutely delicious! The drinks were very tasty and elegant. It was noted that the restaurant partners with Black Oak Farms, which is awesome to know that they are a small Black owned business supporting another. Chef Jenn was very open to people with allergies to let her know so she could accommodate, and has extensive experience preparing vegetarian dishes. So excited to finally get a chance to try this restaurant. I absolutely jumped at the chance when I got an invite from my friend to go here for happy hour. Happy hour on the southwest side or Southwest suburbs to be exact. Sign me up! This place is really nice, such a hidden gym. Let me tell you the music ,is everything! The food comes out fresh to order . We did get drinks , one was like an adult size think of Capri Sun but boozy, My drink was more like a martini with a tropical fruit flare so good and strong! I had buffalo chicken sliders and fries off the happy hour menu large portions enough to share my friend ordered catfish sliders that looked cooked to perfection. After laughing, crying and dancing at the table we opted for desserts. We wanted churros but they were out and we were kind of sad by that. But Monica, who is our wait staff came back and told us that she will make something special and man it was amazing chef kiss. Oh my goodness is how we describe it om strawberry fruit nachos. We had a scoop of delectable vanilla ice cream to go along with the bread pudding. Everything had an a complimenting sauce to it. It was freshly baked and everything complemented each other in such a way and the hospitality was amazing. We even got to meet Chef Jenn who is known around Chicago land for her skills . This is a great restaurant in Blue Island. They've only recently expanded their services to include the restaurant. We will definitely check it out again, and I will update my review to show that. The good: The FOOD was really incredible. I love me a good bowl of chili, and this one was hearty with all the right flavors. The cornbread muffin that came with it was small, but really tasty. The crab cakes were fresh and so good. The salad was simple, fresh and delicious, and I loved the balsamic vinaigrette dressing. My husband enjoyed the sliders & fries, and the cheesecake was one of the best ones I've had in a long time. The staff was friendly and engaging, and the service was good. Needs improvement: We felt like the wait to get our appetizer and then the food was longer than we were accustomed to at restaurants. I imagine they're still ironing out some things as they're newly opened for restaurant service, so I imagine it'll be better on our next trip. The crab, while delicious, may not have been cleaned properly as I had a good amount of unexpected crunching as I chewed. Maybe it was a one off, but I did mention it to the waitress. Either way, they are really quite good, so I will definitely try them again. We were definitely blown away by the food, and love having the opportunity to support a local, black woman owned business in our neighborhood. I used Edible Passport for my husband's birthday in 2021. It was still in the thick of Covid and people were being extra careful. I was pleased with the way the bento boxes were packaged and everyone loved the food. I was thrilled to know that they were open for happy hour. I have been twice and both times the food was good and the drinks were too. I really like the adult Capri sun. I went here with my mom and family for Mother's Day. I'll tell you it was the WORST experience ever!!! The waitress we had was extremely rude and very unprofessional. She was impatient taking our orders and she had no class whatsoever. After getting my food I noticed a big strand of black hair in my " homemade yogurt with granola"! I use quotation markers here because it tasted like something they took from the grocery store packages and added tons of sugar, but I digress. Immediately, I asked the cook ( our waitress never came back to the table after serving us) to please remove the yogurt from the table. At this time the " manager" discussed the issue with the team at the front of the restaurant. They were making annoyed faces and then she proceeded to come to the table saying that the black strand wasn't hair, but natural strings from the honey!! lol The food wasn't bad ( I give it two starts for that reason ONLY). I had the salmon croquettes, and scrambled eggs. It was pretty tasty. The rest of my family enjoyed their meal too. However, our service was terrible!!! If you go for the food you'll like it, but if you're anything like me, who loves delicious food and stellar customer service, this isn't the place for you - especially on a high volume day ( holidays ). The facility isn't big enough, the staffing is short and the customer service is unpleasantly unprofessional!! Lastly, The audacity of the " manager" asking my family if we had " Zelle or another one of those apps" when we asked if we can separate the bill. They let their employees invite people to my party that I pod to have the place closed to the public. It was only one waitress there the whole night even tho I had 30-40 guest. My husband and I just had our first meal from this fabulous restaurant. It is very hard to find good restaurants in the south suburbs, they are few and far between. Even fewer in Blue Island. It is a joy to know we now have a restaurant in our neighborhood that we can enjoy and bring family and friends to. My husband's fish was terrific, the rice and beans delicious. Great Surprise in Blue Island. A group of 6 of us went out for Saturday night dinner and found ourselves at Edible Passport. Out of 6 diners- drinks, aps, entrees, desserts- there was not one complaint. The service (Monica and Kat!) was excellent. Our reservation was for 1:00 PM, when we arrive we had to wait for our table to get ready. We were greeted by a very friendly and pleasant hostess. They got our table set and we put orders in for appetizers, that took about 25 minutes. After that we placed our entree order, myself and three other's had a 1 1/2 hour wait on our meals, although the food was very tasty, it cannot make up for the poor service we received and the lengthy wait for our meal. The hostess did apologize, and told us that they had two very big catering orders, which made it even worse. If you're going to catering orders and have a restaurant you definitely need staff to pull that off. The waitress that was assigned to our table never asked if she could get us anything or even gave us water. By the time our food arrived we were ready to just leave. The wait times were long, the atmosphere was hot and smoky, the restaurant was small, they were short staffed, the servers were rude, the owner was rude, and the menu was very deceiving- you order salmon croquettes and they bring you out 3 small balls of salmon, and items that we wanted they were out of. My mother needed a few more minutes to decide what she wanted to order and the server didn't like that at all. She put the rest of the table's order in, never came back to the table to check if she was ready to order then finally came to take her order when our food was being served. It took a very long time for our alcoholic beverages/regular beverages to be served that we forgot we even ordered them. The never brought water to the table nor silverware when our food was served. In fact, they never came to check on us. I'll give the benefit of the doubt and say that the volume of people in such a small establishment was overwhelming for a holiday but "we" have to do better. I don't like tarnishing my people but they have to do better with their customer service otherwise it'll be another "us" business that "we" don't patronize because the customer service is well below average. read more

The way Jen creates flavor profiles is amazing. We have had her food a few times, each time is better than the last. This one was a valentines experience that literally took us on a trip around the world with our mouths with each bit. The flavors, the details including edible flowers, a passport, games and surprise chocolate fondue were everything. I cannot wait to visit in person to get the full presentation experience. Tasted Ep's wings with jasmine rice at the Taste of Black Chicago. I was impressed with the wings. Although the portion was small for the price, the presentation and taste were two thumbs up. The glaze on the wings wasn't to sweet or tart and they didn't drown the wings. People are getting carried away with the amount of sauce they are putting on EVERYTHING. It's like the food has become an afterthought. But I digress. This wasn't the case with the wings. I also thought the rice was fabulously flavorful. I was a bit dismayed by the LONG wait (almost 20 minutes). This was made worst by the fact that my original draw to the vendor (the fried caprese salad) was sold out. I did not know this until I tried to order after standing in line. This was the only item I'd planned to order. But considering I'd stood there all that time, I got the wings.
