Executive Chef Jennifer Gavin is a STAR as evinced by her performance on Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen, but this restaurant missed a five star rating by a mile. The service was second to none (thank you Deja), but the restaurant is sterile, cold and the music selection is a radio station the staff apparently likes and played way too loud during a morning brunch. This seems like a prep spot for her catering venture and not a five star dining establishment. In fact, there is NOTHING 5-Star about this dining experience. Even the website demonstrates that her focus is on catering large events--evidenced by the catering menus being featured and not the dining menus. As for the food, it was good, but nothing was exceptional. We shared the "Exotic Fruit & Berry Mosaic Board" -- a medley of delicious fresh fruit. My wife had the "Brioche French Toast" - French toast, eggs and choice of meat: (Pork Bacon, Turkey Bacon, Veggie Sausage, Chicken & Apple Sausage, Turkey Sausage). My son tried the Belgian waffles with bourbon maple syrup, eggs and sausage as the "choice of meat." I ordered a simple Belgian Waffle and was going to eat my wife's eggs and sausage since she hadn't eaten them. (Hmmmm????) I understand why she passed. The eggs were bland and the sausage links had an awful aftertaste. With all due respect, if you're not going to season the eggs, PLEASE put salt and pepper on the tables. $115 seemed ridiculously high for the quality of the food and no alcohol--and I've paid twice as much with no complaints at Virtue, Asciones etc. It breaks my heart to have not really enjoyed Easter Brunch at Edible Passport, but it felt like a bit of a dive, not a fine dining experience.

Bao Buns - worth trying...korean fried chicken

I was very excited to try this place. But, very disappointed when I got the food. Out of the 6 things ordered, only one has an actual good taste worth eating again, that was the Bao buns. Everything else lacked flavor and was just very dry. We also ordered the steak medium rare but it was pretty well done instead. The truffle fries were good too. But, I would pass on the snapper, steak frites and gumbo. If you still decide to go, put the Lawrys in your purse or pocket.... But, kudos to the server, Monica!! She had it down!! She did add sunshine to the experience.

I wasn't disappointed in this place at all. I went for a late lunch. It was only me and my friend there and someone at the bar. This is a hidden gem. There was only 1 person working. She may have been the owner or manager. She was very nice and attentive. The watermelon margarita was delicious. Sliders werent dried out. I had the gumbo, very flavorful but definitely tasted better the next day. Only complaint I had about the food, there wasn't enough truffle on the fries. I will definitely be back. The space where they are was another restaurant, I used to dine there. The restaurant is currently using the furniture from the other restaurant, which I get is cheaper. I don't know if it was the building or the furniture but it smelled old and musty. Just need to have some wall plug ins, or something.

This place is a must visit! The owner was a contestant on Hell's Kitchen. I stopped in for dessert and had the bread pudding. My friend had the pineapple rum cake. The bread pudding was good, but the rum cake was amazing. Both came with a side of ice cream and fresh berries. Our waitress was very nice. She greeted us as soon as we came in. She made some suggestions of things we could try, so I will definitely be back to take her up on some of those suggestions. The place is very nicely decorated. It was quiet and intimate, the perfect place for a date night.

Great atmosphere and delicious food! I started with the coconut shrimp and chocolate martini. Both were amazing! Then I had the ribeye with broccoli and macaroni and cheese. Everything was so flavorful and satisfying, I was stuffed when it was time to go. I was treating my friend for her birthday and she had the gumbo and loved it! I will definitely come back and the service is wonderful, folks are pleasant and accommodating.

You walk in and are transported to vacation vibes. The food is beautifully presented and tastes just as good!!! Drinks are crafty and so delicious. Service is great! They welcome you like the family they've been expecting. I will definitely be frequently patronizing. I loved my experience. This play is a must experience.

A local Facebook group organized a night out at Edible Passport, and it was such a fun night! The location is great - a block down from The Lyric Theater - so will definitely be back for a pre-show dinner. We were treated to a dinner around the world, with a variety of flavor profiles. Each course was plated beautifully. The caesar salad was elevated with its delicious pickled tomatoes. I really enjoyed the samosa - very flavorful. The risotto was absolutely delicious! The drinks were very tasty and elegant. It was noted that the restaurant partners with Black Oak Farms, which is awesome to know that they are a small Black owned business supporting another. Chef Jenn was very open to people with allergies to let her know so she could accommodate, and has extensive experience preparing vegetarian dishes. The rest of the menu looks delicious, and I am looking forward to going back in the future!

Me and my friend met for happy hour and it was such a nice pleasant surprise the whole the place wasn't crowded and the deck the core of all the different countries and different flags for the country and region was beautiful the food was fresh and the music was very nice drinks were refreshing and strong. We got to take a picture with the owner she was very nice .We came for dinner but I will definitely return for brunch.

So excited to finally get a chance to try this restaurant. I absolutely jumped at the chance when I got an invite from my friend to go here for happy hour. Happy hour on the southwest side or Southwest suburbs to be exact. Sign me up! This place is really nice, such a hidden gym. Let me tell you the music ,is everything! The food comes out fresh to order . We did get drinks , one was like an adult size think of Capri Sun but boozy, My drink was more like a martini with a tropical fruit flare so good and strong! I had buffalo chicken sliders and fries off the happy hour menu large portions enough to share my friend ordered catfish sliders that looked cooked to perfection. After laughing, crying and dancing at the table we opted for desserts. We wanted churros but they were out and we were kind of sad by that. But Monica, who is our wait staff came back and told us that she will make something special and man it was amazing chef kiss. Oh my goodness is how we describe it om strawberry fruit nachos. We had a scoop of delectable vanilla ice cream to go along with the bread pudding. Everything had an a complimenting sauce to it. It was freshly baked and everything complemented each other in such a way and the hospitality was amazing. We even got to meet Chef Jenn who is known around Chicago land for her skills . Amazing repertoire of menus and delectable goodies definitely get down here and show them some love and check her out for her catering as well

This is a great restaurant in Blue Island. They've only recently expanded their services to include the restaurant. We will definitely check it out again, and I will update my review to show that. The good: The FOOD was really incredible. I love me a good bowl of chili, and this one was hearty with all the right flavors. The cornbread muffin that came with it was small, but really tasty. The crab cakes were fresh and so good. The salad was simple, fresh and delicious, and I loved the balsamic vinaigrette dressing. My husband enjoyed the sliders & fries, and the cheesecake was one of the best ones I've had in a long time. The staff was friendly and engaging, and the service was good. Needs improvement: We felt like the wait to get our appetizer and then the food was longer than we were accustomed to at restaurants. I imagine they're still ironing out some things as they're newly opened for restaurant service, so I imagine it'll be better on our next trip. The crab, while delicious, may not have been cleaned properly as I had a good amount of unexpected crunching as I chewed. Maybe it was a one off, but I did mention it to the waitress. Either way, they are really quite good, so I will definitely try them again. We were definitely blown away by the food, and love having the opportunity to support a local, black woman owned business in our neighborhood. I am looking forward to our next visit, and am confident I will be able to give it 5 stars!

I used Edible Passport for my husband's birthday in 2021. It was still in the thick of Covid and people were being extra careful. I was pleased with the way the bento boxes were packaged and everyone loved the food. I was thrilled to know that they were open for happy hour. I have been twice and both times the food was good and the drinks were too. I really like the adult Capri sun. Monica is a bartender/server and she's very personable and makes great drinks.

I appreciated the clear web site that lays out many of the catering options and I found Chef Jen to be easy to work with for minor modifications.

What I love most about this place is their staff, their level of care, patience, and attentiveness goes far beyond what we could have hoped for. Its rare to find a place that combines such high standards with genuine heart, but Penny lane (Oak Lawn) does exactly that. We are incredibly fortunate to have found them and would recommend them wholeheartedly to any parent looking for exceptional care. I currently, have 3 of my kids enrolled there. 2 of them in daycare and 1 in their before and after school care. We also leverage their summer camp program. We love Penny Lane, Oak Lawn!

Hi @Melissa penny lanes business director,…read more Since I can't reply back to your comment on my review I'll just write it here. Nothing, I wrote is inaccurate information. I totally understand that these reviews are very important for penny lanes business. This is why I took the time to write out the review. For parents seeking child care for their children and wanting to make the best decision. Actually, some of the things that you stated in your reply was very inaccurate such as my reason to leave the daycare. We left due to having so many incidents occur and the lack of incidents reports being made and also lack of accountability. Most of the time my daughter was sent home from daycare with cuts and bruises. Teachers were unable to explain what happened due to them "not being around" or "leaving early for the day" so she was left in the care of substitute teacher and no one in the daycare could find whichever "substitute teacher "was in the class in at the time to explain the constant injuries. Also, on August 11th I was called into penny lanes due to my child having a busted lip and chipped tooth. I expressed my concerns to the director of the daycare Ms.Laura she responded back to me and let me know if I wanted my child to not have so many incidents I needed a nanny. Which I was completely token back by. I understand things happen in a daycare but as a director for that to be the response back to a concern parent is very insensitive. Also, to double back to the abrupt departure. Laura allow us to leave without putting in the 2 week notice due to not us moving but me being so uncomfortable with my child being enrolled under you guys care second longer. Her last day was that Thursday morning November 6th due to another unreported incident. My daughter was enrolled in for a year. I have never once received a weekly paper meal plan in advance. My child was there 5 days a week and 8-8.5 hrs a day. So I understand that health and safety is the utmost importance but it's seems like the ball was dropped multiple times with my child. Also, is always a lack of accountability. This is not the blame game. If I'm paying for a good quality daycare I expect the best quality health and safety for my child. I left the review for parents to understand that penny lanes daycare of oak lawn does not provide this experience for each and every child. Also, if you need for me to provide any proof I can. Thank you. -Brianna Boyce
