Nice clean place for a manicure! I didn't feel rushed during my mani pedi and I felt like the woman did a very thorough job. My regular manicure lasted about 4-5 days without any major chips which I consider good. My toes lasted close to two weeks. I've been to this place twice and each time I thought the experience was very good. It's nice that they give massages (of course some do it longer than others). I like that they use quality nail polishes not just the nail color, but also the base coat and top coat which is key to making your mani/pedi last longer. Although I think it's kinda pricey I think it's worth it if you want quality. Also if you decide to go, it's probably best to make a reservation, if you're going at a busy time/day. And make sure you bring cash, they don't let you tip on the credit card for some reason. read more

I love this place. I have been to many nail salons in the area including the new salon on 13th and State. I have never had service like that at Spa O. It is clean and there are no chemical odors. The staff is great and they do not speak their language loudly pass you. When I walk out of this place my nails look good and the prices aren't bad. They also have massages in addition to your free massage that comes with a manicure. I recommend that everyone treat themselves to an extra massage, it is worth every dime and more. I don't know much about Nail Shop. But I do notice when I see quality service for a value price since I have been in sales for a long time. I and my gf dropped in without an appointment while we were visiting friends in South Loop. My gf was really pleased with the nail job and friendly service. And I can say with confidence she is picky:) My gf asked the owner if they have any branch or near plan to open a branch in West Suburb. Pros: clean, great color selection, and friendly receptionist Cons: rude manicurists, small space I work in the area, and our boss decided to take us out to get our nails done. We had an appointment, so the salon was expecting a bigger group. The receptionist greeted us, and got us where we needed in an efficient manner. I told the receptionist that I have acrylic nails with gel polish, but I just wanted a new color. She said it wouldn't be an issue The moment my manicurist saw my acrylic nails, it service immediately went downhill. She began rolling her eyes and glaring at me because she had to file off the gel polish. To make the service a little more enjoyable, I began trying to make small talk multiple times, each time being ignored. The overall product was just ok My other coworkers reported being cut to the point where blood was drawn and they were rough on the massages (one I didn't get). I am in the service industry, so I understand there may be off days, But I am highly disappointed in the service we received today (especially for a place that has such high ratings). My company will not be recommending this place to our clients, nor will we be returning. This place had everything going, but service and staff friendliness need improvements. read more

I've actually never written a negative review before because it takes a lot to actually upset me. Unfortunately I went here and my nail polish changed color over night and looked like I had stains all over my nails. I went back and simply requested a polish change and I got told that I caused the issue and I would be charged for the polish change. I explained that I didn't do anything out of the ordinary and it was not an issue I caused but was told it was still me "guaranteed". I really tried liking this place because is inexpensive and is so close to my house. The place is beautiful and clean but I been dissatisfied every single time I go there. Waxing and manicures there Just don't seem to work for me, my brows don't even get trimmed and always look so thick but the girl who did them is very sweet so is hard to tell her I dont like them :(. I got a manicure and also didn't like how my nails looked. They were hardly filed and I saw the girls next to me and all the other clients getting massaged as they were done but, when my girl finished she just walked me out of the chair to the drying station. I went for a no chip and two days later one chipped but that's not even part of the worst experience. While I was getting my nails done an older gentleman 75 & over came in to request for toe nail clipping and the receptionist first told him he was not available for 2 more hours but there was no more than 4 people in the entire spa and more than enough staff to accommodate. The receptions then told him he couldn't take him I wish I would have spoken up about the clear discrimination I witnessed but this yelp review will have to do. This place is clean I will give them that much. The only thing that really annoyed me was the service. I went in for a No-Chip manicure. I walked in without an appointment as It was a last minute decision. Came in and there was one person getting a mani and one getting a pedi. I asked if they could take me or if I should come back since I live a few blocks away. The receptionist looked at me like I had asked her to give me a kidney. As she looked annoyingly if there were any spots left. She said okay we can fit you in. My fault for not making an appointment. As for the manicure.He didn't file before applying the acetone which I thought was odd. When he went to remove the polish he looked at me and said "wait this is OPI, why didnt you tell me" ummm im sorry I didn't realize I had to. I hate places that do not soak your hands before cutting the cuticle. Basically you are getting your cuticles cut with just some soap and all this acetone on your hands. The next thing he says is "who did your nails before. The cuticles are cut poorly and the shape is not good" Oh sorry about that yet again. I will make sure to tell the last tech what a horrible job they did buddy. The last straw for me was as my nails were drying I lifted my hand to cover my mouth while sneezing and he scolds me for moving saying If I mess it up he has to do it all over again so do not move. This is only the second time I've given a 1 star rating for a nail salon, and for the same reason: if I am still in pain a week later, it doesn't matter how pretty the pedicure looks. And when the pedicure doesn't even look right when you walk out the door, well, this place would get no stars if I could do it. Yes, the massage chairs are very nice. Yes, you get a short neck/back massage when you first go to the drying area. Yes, they take credit cards (but you have to bring your own cash for the tip). That's all the positive I have for this place. The manager speaks English, but the person who worked on my nails didn't speak a single word of English, and if I tried to tell her something (such as DO NOT cut my cuticles) her reaction was to shrug like "can't understand you, and don't care" instead of "can't understand you, let me get the manager." She used sharp utensils (not just the cuticle cutter) all along the edges of the nails and underneath. It felt like broken glass everywhere for 8 days after. Also, several of my smaller toes were sore from being squished. After the pedicure, the worker simply pointed toward the cash register. So, I walked over there to pay. It turns out, the dryers are part of the counter there, but they're at a very difficult height and depth. I am normal height (5'6") and the foot dryer is enough off the floor that your heels have to hang in the air, but the stool and counter are so high that you can't sit, you have to perch at the edge of the stool. Even then, the counter was about chin height. Also, the foot drying space is approximately 9" long by 4" high. Needless to say, I managed to bump my polish while trying to maneuver my feet into this tight space. The manager saw me do it, saw me lean over to check out the damage, looked herself and shook her head "oops, too bad" and walked away. I did my best to smudge the polish back into position. Since you're not sitting in a dedicated spot to dry the polish but instead right at the entrance where people are greeted and payments are made, and there are only 2 places, AND it's incredibly uncomfortable to sit/read, you end up moving before the polish is fully dried. Which didn't matter so much in my case, since it was already smudged. Oh, and last but not least: the parking is ridiculous. Most of the street parking is permit-only, and if there is any event at Soldier Field at any time that day, you can't even park at the relatively few meters available. You'll be lucky to find parking 6-8 blocks away. read more

This place is racist and overpriced! I am a woman of color and I will take my business elsewhere. My sister and I went in for some sissy time, and we received HORRIBLE service. My sister's technician finished her pedicure and just left her in the chair. No shoulder massage, no "I'll help you to the drying station," not even an obligatory "I'm finished now and moving on to the next customer." Also, when we arrived we saw a sign that said "tips cannot be added to your your card. cash only." But, while I was at the drying station, I noticed that an Asian customer was able to add tip to the card, no problem. Take your money somewhere else! read more

Originally, I did not have a great experience at Spa O. My days start early and end late. I needed a nail salon that was close to the condo and offered flexible business hours. Spa O was my first stop. On my first visit, my nail technician was pretty crabby and wasn't very attentive. I was convinced after that appointment that I wouldn't go back. However, I had one hour available on a Sunday and Spa O was the only nail salon in the area that had an opening for a no-chip manicure. I was reluctant, but it was my only chance to have my nails done that weekend. It was a completely different experience! Clearly, I just caught the first nail tech on a bad day. I have truly come to love Spa O! Their location, flexible hours, rewards program, shoulder massages and attentiveness are the reasons I continue to give them business. I would recommend Spa O to almost anyone. And to the users who gave them low ratings -- give them another shot. They won't let you down. read more

Had a bad experience with the long blond hair lady that works there. First of all, I had made an appointment for 4pm and when I got there (10 minutes early), she told me that I had to hurry up and pick out my color because she had other appointments after me. She kept rushing me and I was so confused and flustered. When she got to doing my pedicure, I realized it was still before my 4pm appointment. This is not good customer service. I come to get a pedicure to relax. Not to have more stress induced. Secondly, the long blond haired lady waxed my eyebrows. I asked that they just be cleaned up. Instead, she made my eyebrows so thin, that clearly bald spots were missing. Not only did she make them to thin, but they were also crooked. During the process, before I could see them, she proceeded to explain to me that the person that must have waxed my eyebrows before her must of messed them up. She tried to blame her mistakes on someone else. I went home and was horrified at my eyebrows. Honest to god, I started to cry because the next day I was leaving for vacation and was so upset about how they looked. There was not enough time for the hair to grow in and I knew that I would need a eyeliner to fill them in to get them to at least look half normal. Nobody should ever have to go through this. I was a frequent customer, but have decided to not come any more. I can say that everyone else I have had the chance to service me, was great. read more

In my opinion, Lisa is the BEST - so sweet, very thorough and Cici is great as well. They also keep track of your points for you and let you know when you've built up enough to use - went in for a mani/pedi/wax expecting to pay approx. $60 and had $36 in credits (made my day!). I came here on Monday evening at 7 (they close at 8) and was told that there wasn't enough time to do a mani pedi, which is ridiculous. I couldn't believe they turned me away with an hour to perform services that at comparable salons take 45 minutes. Then I remembered the last time I was there (awhile ago) where it took the technician almost an hour to do my manicure alone! It lasted for about 4-5 days before chipping started. Terrible service. Most of all, my pedicurist left my feet dry and ashy after the paint job and acted as if she didn't know what lotion or moisturizer was. Will not be going back. Out of all the salons I called in this area, they were the only ones that do the dip nails. I always get a dip manicure and pedicure and the girl on the phone said only 2 people can do the dip and to make an appointment. She insisted to be there in 15 mins. I told her I take public transportation, but I'll do my best. When I got there they said to pick a dip color. There were only 10 color choices and 80% were a shade of red. I told the girl I had the dip powder on, but no one wrapped my nails during my pedi to start getting it to come off. The tech doing the pedi was asking someone to help her out by wrapping my nails but they all ignored her. The result: a 10 min pedi and over 2 hour process of getting the old dip powder removed and new dip powder put on. They don't use any electric tools. The poor girl had to use nail files to remove the powder. If you like a basic mani or pedi this is the place for you. My search continues for a good south loop or near by nail salon. read more

I really enjoy a good pedicure, and I figured I would try this place one Saturday morning while in the city since it had mostly positive Yelp reviews. As soon as I walked in I was immediately welcomed and checked in by the host. I picked out my color and sat down. I came a little before 1030 am on a Saturday morning without an appointment. Around 11, the place seemed to fill up more, so it might be wise to book an appointment on a Saturday afternoon at least. The pedicure received here was okay. I got the impression that my nail technician was a beginner due to the lack of time she spent scrubbing my feet, and messing up one of toes (she re did it thankfully). She also didn't apply lotion, which was unusual to me. When my feet were drying, the host asked how my pedicure went? I told her it went fine, but I needed some lotion. She gave me some, and I applied it to my dry feet. I am totally ok with paying $35 (normal price) for a pedicure, but this pedicure was missing some essential elements of an amazing pedicure. If I came in the future, I would probably just try with a different nail tech. read more

For $35, you would expect a better than decent pedicure but that's all I got was decent. I am not sure why technicians rub your feet for 30 seconds and count that as the massage. When you go to get a pedicure, you are also going for an experience. Come on, it wouldn't hurt to put some effort into it. I decided on a rare Tuesday off from work to treat myself to a mani-pedi and decided on Spa O because its close to my home and they have a mani-pedi special for $39 on Mon and Tues. They were really nice when I booked my appointment but when I got there, I felt a little ignored. No one spoke a word other than asking me to pick out my colors. Normally, I don't like overly chatty manicurists since I normally go to relax but this inattentive service was verging on plain rude. As I was picking my colors, I kept having to step out of the way while the bevy of manicurists without appointments picked out THEIR colors! I don't care what they do in their down time, but I think the paying customer shouldn't have to compete with staff for nail polish. I then asked if they had the Essie polish I was currently wearing and one woman barely looked at the color in my hand and said "maybe," and continued her conversation with the other staff and left me to search out the color on my own. WTH?!? How about helping me out? When my service was finished, they sat me at the drying station and walked away. I nicely interrupted the conversation among the staff to ask if someone would mind actually turning it ON. As I prepared to leave, no one offered to help me gather my things or put my shoes back on (which has been pretty standard at most salons I visit). All of these incidents just made it seem like they were more interested in hanging out and conversing with one another rather than making sure their customers are taken care of. Not that it's required but it also happens to be a balmy 96 degrees so a nice offer of a drink of water would have gone a long way... The mani-pedi was average but I wouldn't go back.
