Came here after I booked a gel mani on ClassPass for 15 credits. Spa O is a nice basic salon in South Loop. Initially, I only saw one carousel with OPI gel polishes then after I was seated I saw a hallway with polishes on the wall and another carousel of polish near the pedicure station. There are hundreds of colors to choose from from DND and OPI, from what I saw, as well as dip powders. I don't know the name of the young lady that serviced me, but she took her time and did a great job on my nails -- I love the shape as well as my color. Spa O is not glitz and glam in my opinion, and so far, they seem like they do a good job on basic services. I'll be back in the future for a basic gel mani using ClassPass because that's the more economical option. read more

I just left Spa O about five minutes ago and once again, I've come away with a perfect mani-pedi and a superb customer experience. The customer service, beginning from the desk attendant, to the nail techs was just wonderful. They genuinely smile and make you feel welcomed (even though I'm always a spontaneous walk-in customer), while being one of the most efficient operations I've seen in this neighborhood. The words I'd use to describe their work are skilled, meticulous, hard-working, professional and patient -- yet they're still mindful of getting you through your appointment in a fair amount of time. The location is convenient and easily accessible, the nail techs know what they're doing and they do it well, plus they always add a couple of scrubs or other techniques that make your manicure or pedicure seem more like a massage. Forget the snobby reviews that you may see on here and give them your business -- especially men who are just in search of good self-care and don't need all of the she-she fufu spa ambiance. Making an appt was a breeze and the shoulder massage was great. At the end of the day though, it's about the quality of work which is why the 3 star review. I had a regular mani / pedi during the early week special so just $35. The gal who worked on me was fast and seemed to paint really well (no touch ups on the skin around the nails needed). There was a decent, but not huge color selection and the place seemed very busy. Sanitation seemed good also, but the salon itself is showing some signs of aging. Unfortunately, four days after my visit all my fingernails started chipping. This is not at all typical for me as they usually last a week or more. My toenails look good still, but I'll be taking off the nail polish now. I'm not sure if it's old or possibly thinned polish as the chips are very very thin for two coats. A shame I couldn't even make it through the weekend. I'm unlikely to return based on this and my search for a good nail salon continues. read more

I have gone to this nail salon for 3 years as I used to live down the street, and during the pandemic it was actually a great experience. They always adhered to the Covid protocols and overall Service was good because they had so few customers. I look forward to coming back because it's familiar. Well she cut deep into my nail cuticles and it hurt soo much I kept saying ouch so she stopped. A few days later as I'm writing this review my toes are in sooo much pain. They burn, they hurt and they irritated. I looked closely and she dug so deep there are scabs and blood around some of my toes. Soo disappointed. And she cut my nails short. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE: Horrible Customers Service and Bad Nail Technicians Just got a Mani and Pedi done by Alex. Not only did she make my toes bleed when she cut my cuticles but she kept touching her nose and scratching her face while doing my Mani and Pedi during coronavirus. She proceeded to cut my cuticles too close and made my fingers bleed as well. THEN the manager, Erin, said she couldn't do anything for me. I hadn't been here in well over a year to two years because the last time I was here, I got a mani-pedi. After the pedi, I had abrasions on my feet because my nail tech had scrubbed way too hard with the pumice stone. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I had broken two acrylic nails and decided it was time I got them off. My regular nail place was closed over the Thanksgiving holiday, so I went to Spa-O since it was conveniently next to where I live. Everything went well up until the mani. I could feel how fragile my nails were after the soak, typical. What was unusual was how she filed my nails after the soak. In some areas, it made my natural nail too thin. She automatically assumed I wanted a square mani, not a problem, just odd how she didn't ask. Regardless, the execution was poor. Not a single one of my nails are even, in regards to the length nor the shape. While she was filing my nails, she ended up getting my nail beds too. Now, my nail beds are raw and swollen. Not sure if I just managed to catch them on an off day, but after two disappointing experiences, I can't come back. Don't cheat on your nail techs. read more

I went in asking for an almond nail shape, but the girl doing my nails cut them down to the quick and then said she couldn't do the shape because my nails were too short--only after she cut them too short. The manager even backed her up and said, yeah we can't do that shape because they are too short. I got up before the no-chip manicure was over and walked out. This doesn't even deserve one star. I showed up at 6:15 for a 6:30 appointment I had made the day before. They said I was late for my 6:00 appointment, but still fit me in. I got a mani-pedi with the early-week special. I had two business trips in the next two weeks and needed something to last through both. The pics here are from 8 days ago. They lasted through my first business trip, and my second! I also ended up in the pool and hot tub on my first trip, and they still look great. It was a good manicure for a good price, and lasted a long time. It wasn't anything special, though. So if you're looking for that extra zhuzh, this isn't your place. I also wish they would've painted closer to my cuticles so the outgrowth wouldn't be so dramatic so quickly. read more

I've only gotten my nails done twice before coming to this place so I'm kinda new to the whole process of getting a mani/pedi. That being said, the lady doing my nails had very low patience with me and was pretty rude when I asked her to repeat certain instructions. She'd get irritated if I accidentally put up both my legs instead of one, if I didn't move my hands a certain way, etc. Getting a mani/pedi for a special occasion should be relaxing and exciting, but she made it stressful instead. I'd say the staff is not very friendly and don't engage with customers beyond what is necessary. If you want a cheaper nail place, this is it. I've been here 3 times for a gel manicure. The place is okay. Some pros: good selection of colors, short shoulder massage is offered, staff is friendly. Some cons: place is a little dirty- I've seen them reuse tools without washing them, so always ask them to get a clean set! Twice, two different techs have scrubbed my skin off with a nail file (pic attached) and then proceed to put rubbing alcohol on it! Sarah is great! I just get a basic no chip manicure nothing fancy but she is very detailed oriented. If she notices something is wrong with my no chip nail polish she will file the area down and repaint it even before I notice something is not right. Please avoid this establishment. They charge mani/pedi prices but will give you a polish change. They TRIED to give me a 5-7 minute pedicure. No soaking, scrubbing or trimming of my cuticles. I complained and finally got a little bit more attention to my feet. Then my no chip manicure was done with a one of those cheap nail grooming sets you get at Walgreens. Nothing professional. I live so close by - I want to love this place. I've gone many times, and found it is hit or miss. With the most recent incident, I'm giving up on them. I got a regular pedi and waited 8 hours before wearing close toed shoes, but when I did, the pedi polish smudged like crazy. I went back the next day, they repainted, using a new bottle of polish. I waited EIGHTEEN (18) hours to wear close toe shoes this time. And - you guessed it - the polish smudged again. So, they must be using old top coat that never dries. Or, they've diluted the top coat with so much acetone that it never dries. Regardless, I'm done. read more

Have had a couple bad experiences here recently. I live really close so I want to love it but it hasn't been a good experience. They don't wrap your toes here in Saran Wrap after getting a pedicure like most places do so literally my last 2 pedicures got ruined after leaving here and putting on my shoes (even though I waited more than sufficient time for them to dry). They also are not friendly here. They don't grab your shoes/bag and move it over for you or anything like that. Alex gave me the worst pedicure of my life. DO NOT GO HERE! Worst dip manicure I've ever received. I was going out of town and got the manicure the day before leaving so that my nails would be fresh. As soon as I left the salon, I felt bumps on the surfaces of nearly all of my nails. When I held my hand to the light, I could see texture... I immediately went back and kindly asked them to fix my textured nails. The woman who had rushed my manicure in the first place was visibly irritated that she had to fix my nails and asked me which ones. When I showed her all of the nails with texture, she sighed and quickly buffed my nails and threw on a top coat. They weren't perfect, but I didn't want to make her start over because I did not have the time. The first day of my trip, I noticed a corner of one of the nails was already chipping. By the third day, three nails were chipped. I called the salon and explained the situation. They told me they would give me a new manicure when I got home. I called today to ask if I could redeem that manicure credit and was told that I waited too long to come back. It was only one month ago! I had to peel off the rest of my nails while traveling because they were so embarrassing and my schedule didn't allow for me to go back. Now that I had the time and was ready to let them make things right, they have the nerve to tell me I took too long to come back!? I tried to reason with the owner over the phone but she just kept repeating that she was sorry but it's too late. They can see in their records that I've been there several times, and this is how you treat a loyal customer with a legitimate complaint? I do not want to give my money to a business who treats customers this way and does not take the time to understand where I'm coming from. It's not like I've done this before and was trying to squeeze out a free service. This was a situation that needed to be rectified and because of their blatant decision to act without integrity, they've lost another customer. I've seen several other reviews here about rude service, so if you decide to go here... you've been warned. It's kind of a roll of the dice on quality, too, so I wouldn't take your chances. Polish Me Nails is a few doors down and so much kinder and consistent with quality. I will be completely converting to them from now on and never go back to Spa O even as a last resort. read more

Why I love this place: - super calm and welcoming environment. It's always quiet in there! - good massage chairs for pedicures and shoulder massage with manicure - the nicest techs in the neighborhood! - they really go above and beyond for their regulars. I come every two weeks and they've squeezed me in for a regular mani/pedi even when they're slammed and closing soon and they don't rush! They touched up a chipped pedicure for free. They're very accommodating of scheduling changes. Just easy to work with and don't nickel and dime you. - the price is extremely generous, especially the early in the week pricing. You can't beat it! There are plenty of other nail salons in the neighborhood but they're generally more expensive and don't really offer anything more in value. Spa O is my spot! read more

I have never written a yelp review before, but for my experience here it's necessary. I got a dip manicure, and after 2 days multiple nails had chipped/broke. They were gracious and offered to redo them so I went back in to have them redone. I had to convince the lady doing my nails to apply 2 top coats since she only did 1 the first time and did not cure my nails under the UV light which is typically how I have always had dip done at any other nail salon. However, my nails have chipped AGAIN 3 days later, even after having them redone. Really disappointed as dip usually lasts me at least 3-4 weeks. I cannot speak to the gel manicure here, but i do not recommend getting dip from this place. read more

Great nail salon. I took a friend with me so we could get pedicures. She got a manicure and I had a no chip gel manicure. We were able to make a last minute appointment for us both. My feet definitely needed a pedicure after a few days of several music festivals and concerts! While the workers weren't too friendly they did an amazing job. We will return! read more

No massage at all and extremely minimal callus removal. She rushed me to move on to her next client. Nails look fine but the pedicure was done so quickly. It was $40 with a tip. I walked in at 5:10, just to be told that my appointment was taken by someone who walked in. It's unfortunate that that is the last time i plan on going there. This was my first visit, and I was very hopeful because I only live a block away, however, unfortunately I will not be going back. I went with my boyfriend and schedules to regular mani and pedis under their special Mon-Wed $35 dollar special. When we arrived, my boyfriend was finished first and his technician left him sitting in the chair until I was done. They did a beautiful job on my toes but it took so long that we ran out of time because we had dinner reservations. They also did a TERRIBLE job on my boyfriends feet. He still had all the callus' on his feet after they were finished (see photo).When I asked about at least my boyfriend getting the manicure, they seemed confused, despite me making mani/pedi reservations for us both. His technician did nothing come out again until we had 5 minutes to leave, so neither of us had time for the manicure. They still charged us the full $35, despite it being a mani/pedi combo and we only got the pedis. I asked if we could come back tomorrow to get the manis and they said a firm "no". And then she raised her voice and told me I never asked for a mani and that she could do it now and it's not her problem I didn't have time to wait. She also tried to charge me full price, despite there being a "10% off your first service" on their website. I had to pull it up and show it to her for her to validate it. TERRIBLE customer service.
