Then I tried the Spanish Yuca Fries with manchego and garlic aioli.... how am I only discovering these now?? I can't choose which was the star of the show. Also, huge fan of The Wash! Turning an old car wash into micro-restaurants with a cocktail bar is such a cool concept. There's great covered outdoor seating and plenty of street parking nearby. I finally got a chance to try this place and glad we did! We had the kids grilled cheese, Cuban Sandwich and fries! My kiddo loved his grilled cheese and it was huge (like an adult portion). I had a bite and it was delicious! Fries were good too - crispy and came with a mayo sauce! The Cuban sandwich was fantastic! It's a very generous portion and loaded with lots of meat inside. We had lunch there today. The food was delicious. The only negative was the mojo pork was not good. It was bland. There was no mojo taste. Publix has better mojo pork on their hot bar. We lived in Miami, Florida all of our lives and moved to San Antonio, TX in 2021. It is very challenging to find an original Cuban Restaurant in San Antonio. However, every time we visit our son in Nashville, TN, he takes us to Soy Cubano everytime we visi. We were just there this Monday, September 28, 2026. Last year we also tried the restaurant, but on Mondays they are closed, but we couldn't leave Nashville, without having our Cuban fix! It's the cafe and although it's outside under a covered patio, it's kept clean and the tables a cleaned once the people that were finish leave. They bring the food to the table and everything is made when you order. I had a Steak Sandwich (Pan con Bistec) the original way and it was great. My husband had the pork, moros, yuca and sweet plantains and he wouldn't stop raving about the autentic taste of the food. My son had croquetas and a steak sandwich and my daughter in law had bistec de palomilla (of which my grandaughter ate the whole steak and she doesn't like ANYTHING!) with white rice, yuca and plantains. Everyone was very satisfied with their meals. Since we visit every time we're in Nashville, I feel like we know one of the ladies that takes care of us at the window. One of the best Cubanos I have had was a place called Kool Korner in Atlanta (now south of Birmingham). The other best have been in Florida, primarily in the Miami-Dade area. This ranks up there, although a bit lower in my opinion. Let's set the scene. I was talking to someone whose family is from Cuba and said I would buy some Cuban food from Soy Cubano so we could try it. Another friend asked if I could get more, and so on. So, here is the menu for the night: Appetizers Beef Empanadas & Ham Croquetas Sammies Cuban Sandwich Frita Cuban Burger Mains Bistec de Palomilla Arroz Con Pollo Pollo a la Pancha Sides Black Beans and Rice Yucca Fried Plantains As a side note, the meals come with plantains and yucca, so you can save yourself some money (and leftovers) if you order meals. My view of the food. Appetizers: The ham croquetas were good, although I don't feel the aioli added anything. The beef empanadas were pretty pedestrian, although the beef does have a nice flavor. Next time, I will try the guava cream pastry and forgo both of these for other items I like better. Sandwiches: Cubana was good, but did not knock my socks off. I think I would much rather get a mojo pork platter, if offered, than the sandwich. The burger was unique (ground beef & pork + choriza with tomato sauce, swiss cheese and potato sticks) and tasty, although I don't think I would go that direction of. I am curious about the Chicken Cuban Club and Bikini Sandwich (manchego cheese with portabello mushrooms and truffle butter). Mains & Sides: The beans & rice are good, although even better underneath the palomilla. Arroz con Pollo was very good, although the Pollo a la Pancha stole the day for me. Chicken marinated in mojo with grilled onions on top. Chef's kiss. I always love friend plantains, so no issue here, and found yucca served more like boiled potatoes to be very nice. Both of us had really wanted nashville to get a good cuban restaurant. Situated amongst other small hole-in-the-wall restaurants, Soy Cubano had a lovely outdoor seating area with shade and many tables. We waited 15-20 mins for food, and the portions were generous! OMG! The Soy Cubano team is amazing. Soy Cubano, for the moment, doesn't have a brick and mortar, they set up and cook at pop-ups all over Nashville.
