People... This is the best sandwich place in Nashville. I'm not over exaggerating when I say everything is good. The food, the service, the ambiance - all of it. Only downside is that it's very far from most places being in the most eastern part of east Nashville but again worth it. Parking is also a nightmare but again, worth it. A little on the pricier side (over 40$ for 2 sandwiches chips and 2 drinks) but the flavor is magnificent in every sandwich hot or cold. My favorites are the pastrami or French dip. The soda is also unreal (high sugar content tho!). Cool outdoor patio. Staff is super chill. Fast service. Top 5 lunch spot in nash. read more

Mitchell Deli is certainly the best delicatessen in the city, an establishment that plays a vital role in making Nashville's food scene so special. The stunning level of freshness is so evident in everything you'll eat here! And their support of local businesses from the menu to the merchandise is quite admirable! Even during off-peak hours on a weekday, business is booming! But they'll get your sandwich out relatively quickly with an effective assembly line. Let me tell you, the Turkey Avocado is immensely popular as seven consecutive orders were rattled off over the PA system, the streak finally broken with my Pastrami and Swiss! Speaking of that, I'm not even the biggest fan of pastrami, but Mitchell's Pastrami and Swiss blew my mind! It made such an impression that it ranked securely within my "50 best things to eat in Nashville" list - a future documentary I'll be filming in 2024. Their house-cured pastrami is legit, and the Swiss, brown mustard, and pickled red onion are the perfect unification of flavors and textures. This masterpiece is framed by a buttery and slightly crispy rye bread from the Clarksville bakery Silke's! And the outcome is nearly as enjoyable as eating a pastrami sandwich at iconic Katz's Deli in Manhattan! Now that's saying something! The Italian isn't nearly as good. The house-made giardiniera relish shines, complemented well by the oil and vinegar, the Swiss and provolone, and the spectacular hoagie roll from Silke's. But something between the prosciutto and two sausages - mortadella and soppressata - isn't perfect. I wouldn't say this competes with the best Italian subs of South Jersey, but that's almost an unfair comparison as few can match such perfection. You'll find very little parking, but additional spots can be had in a lot at the corner of Maxey and McGavock, as well as plenty of parking along the street. A small section in the corner of the store and the adjacent fridge offer an extensive selection of the state's best delights. This includes such treats as cheese and ice cream from Chapel Hill's Nash Family Creamery, gourmet jellies from Lascassas' Marcy Jams!, and even world-famous Benton's bacon from Madisonville. read more

Mitchell's has quickly become our go-to lunch spot - and everything we've tried so far from their expansive menu has been incredibly tasty! I highly recommend ordering ahead online if possible ... especially on the weekend. If you do brave the dine-in line on a Saturday or a Sunday, be prepared to wait at least 20 minutes ... and you may have to quickly stake your claim on a table after ordering. The interior of the restaurant is casual and comforting, with almost a "local diner" feel to it. The outdoor patio is spacious and covered! Of the several sammies I've sampled, the Pastrami and Swiss is my favorite. I also quite liked their Turkey Brie, which is a unique take on the classic. We have yet to try any of their breakfast options ... but that's only because I always seem to be in more of a "lunch mood" when I'm ordering. I'm sure that will change one of these days. read more

I drove out of my way looking for a good sandwich after a gross, greasy breakfast while in town on business. The sandwich itself was very good sized (maybe a little pricey for a takeout sandwich, but very high quality), but the restaurant definitely needed a little tidying up. It was well, well after the lunch rush and lots of staff were just standing around chatting and the restaurant was messy. Not gross messy, but just needing tidying up messy. When I owned a restaurant we encouraged our team to stay on top of that stuff that if you had excessive time to lean, you had time to clean. We always had fun while cleaning but presentation speaks volumes when it comes to food. A couple extra smiles today would have gone a long way too. Mitchell's was very busy the day I visited on a beautiful Saturday recently but the line moved quickly and there was open seating once you got the food. It's a neat little deli with enough to look at to be interesting while you wait. The sandwich I ordered was really good, but my favorite part of the meal was actually the sweet tea. They add cinnamon to it and it gives it really unique taste. I'm not a big sweet tea fan but this was subtly different enough to be enjoyable.
