He works on all my vehicles. Bottom line: Don does solid work at a fair price. You just need to be flexible with him on your schedule and when he can do the work. He's very matter of fact. Some approach business with him by pushing agendas and expectations. Expect push back from him if you do this. If you want someone to tiptoe around your feelings only to upcharge you or fix things that aren't necessary, you'll be better going somewhere else. He may be gruff, but if you go in making a decision to assume he knows his stuff, and not be triggered...you'll find yourself discovering a gem in Don...and you might just make a friend in the process. He's a good dude.

When I arrived, Steve said he had it put on a lift and they "discovered" that all of the pipes and joints were so rusty, that he was afraid that when he started cutting into it, that basically the entire undercarriage would have to be replaced : large rear muffler, large front muffler, the small muffler we spoke about, ALL the piping and "probably more". I asked how much and was told "at least $1200". They said they'd order the parts for the next day. When I left, I could hear odd knocking on the bottom and the smell of exhaust in the front cabin that wasn't there before, or ever. I called back the next day to report this and was blown off with "ma'am, you have an exhaust leak and the knocking you are hearing is because you probably drove over something". I knew then they were not on the up and up, so I played along and asked if my parts came in. They said yes, all but one. I asked what they were missing and was told "a part". He kept saying "just a part" but would not tell me WHAT part. Finally I was forceful and told him I needed the name of "the part". . Steve finally said, the Catalytic Converter. Horses***!. He said I needed that too. Tack on another several hundred dollars, plus labor. Scammers! I took it somewhere else the next morning, and the only thing it needed was the muffler, parts & labor $95. I've heard of stories like this, but, wow, the level of deception was criminal.

I was worried about finding an honest mechanic in a town I had never been to especially because I had no time to do research. Modern Automotive was the first place that came up in Google and I went there. I was in good hands. I first spoke with Thomas Morris who immediately put me at ease with his honesty and genuine problem-solving attitude. I left my car with them and continued on my trip in a rental. Through a series of MY mistakes and lack of ability to figure out how to get my car back once they had completed the work, it was left there for far more than the original time I thought it would be. But they were extremely gracious with me and helped me figure out a good solution. During this time I spoke much with Chuck Swain (Owner) over the phone. He was incredibly generous, good-hearted and honest toward me. It was so refreshing to meet honest businessmen like these, and I would recommend their service to anyone. Thank you guys.

They were ready to have me come in on the same day when I called, but I was unavailable. They prioritized me as a waiting customer and had the part changed in 30 minutes! They even have refreshments in the waiting room and vehicle repair text updates. Other mechanics just had me wait in a chair for 3 hours just to tell me they can't get it done. The cost for the service was great and desk & service personnel were professional and polite, which in my experience is something that shops tend to lack. The only thing I recommend is to add a sign in the parking lot that points toward the office as the several doors outside get confusing for new customers like myself. I had to call every mechanic in town before getting to Auto Repair Specialists. Although they were booked up like every other shop in town, they agreed to see my vehicle. Due to the type of issue I was having with the vehicle, I was ready to stay in town for an extra day. Well, these folks had my spark plugs and ignition coil changed by 1:30!!! I was not expecting a call back until closing. The team did a wonderful job of ensuring all was in GREAT working condition so that I could finish my trip. They were also very helpful in topping fluids and informing me that I should get an oil change upon arriving to my destination. I cannot say enough good things about this crew.
