steak ale pie with fries and rocket

Stopped in here for lunch the other day. it was a real traditional english pub with all the typical foods. I got the steak ale pie which came with fries and rocket. It was very good, a good stew flavor to it. Great bar vibe here as well.

Inside very warm n cozy pub feel Clean and lots of different types of seating. They also have a downstairs seating area Customer service good, typical for a busy pub Loved that they disne have anything I normally like to drink so he recommended several and gave us samples and I found one fruit beer that was AMAZING ! Was like juice We went for Sunday roast (even though being near the market it was NOTHING to write home about) I'm assuming it was sitting under a heat lamp since it was made. I'm guessing if it was made fresh it would of been wonderful

    Sunday roast!

My husband and I visited the Southwark Tavern this past Sunday to partake in our very first Sunday Roast! We walked into a gloriously loud pub filled with rugby fans watching England vs. Ireland on the telly. We had made a reservation ahead of time and were taken to our table straight away. My husband ordered the chicken and thoroughly enjoyed his roast. I have several dietary restrictions, but was pleasantly surprised that there was an option for an impossible burger on their menu! We sat and talked in between diehard England fans' cheers and felt as though we were a part of the community. The food was good, the pub was warm, the cider was cold, the bathrooms were clean, the staff was friendly. It was a lovely place to spend a Sunday afternoon.

I was waiting to see if London Bridge was gonna fall down, but I got tired of waiting. Must eat, me hungry! A short stride away from the infamous bridge, this tavern served its purpose. The bartender is efficient but not the friendliest chap. No matter, the 2 course 10 euros prix fix menu is sure to take care of things. The salt and pepper squid with lime mayo was thinly battered and had a soft bite to it. My smoked trout-egg salad had a nice ratio of protein and fresh veggies. Bf's beer battered haddock and chips were fairly decent, the fish was a bit bland but the crispiness made up for it, well, that and the malt vinegar we doused it with. On the other hand, chips were pretty good. Better as a place to stop by for a pint or two, or if you fancy wine, they have a chalkboard list on the wall as well.

We came upon the tavern and needed a drink & food. Perfect spot. We got our pints & fish & chips, steak sandwich. The Food was very good., and so was the beer. Upstairs has some tables but the real fun is downstairs. In a dungeon like setting we occupied Cell #4. Every table was reserved for the evening. Seems to be a very busy place between 6-9PM We came between lunch-dinner so had ample of seating selection Staff was very friendly. I'll go back.

I liked this pub. We stopped here for Sunday roast. There's seating both upstairs and downstairs. There's a good selection of beers. I had the roast beef for dinner. The beef was cooked perfectly. It came with a good selection of vegetables and a crunchy popover. They also have chicken roast as well. It was a good stop.

This place has a cool vibe to it and has great food selection for vegetarians and a pretty vast beer menu. I ordered the vegetarian lasagna and it was some of the better lasagnas I've had. They put small bread crumbs on the top of it which mix well with the sauce and the cheese and give it more of a complete taste. It is not too cheesy which is great and the sauce doesn't overmix well with the rest of the dish. I'm not a huge fan of the vegetables but the grilled zucchini and squash were pretty good and even better with the lasagna.

A great place for a Sunday roast!! The beef was perfectly cooked, roasted veggies were spot on delicious and topped off with a beautiful Yorkshire pudding. The server and manager were wonderful with fast and pleasant service and checked in on us multiple times to see how we were doing and if we needed anything else (thanks for the horseradish sauce). The beer selection was plentiful with many English ales as well as others from Europe and around the globe. Definitely will be going back again.

Located on the ever bustling Borough market, the Southwark Tavern is also a very lively pub and encourages a crowd of young professionals - especially on a post work Friday night drink. The actual building itself is beautiful and has been renovated to create a trendy yet unpretentious feel to the place. As with its neighbour the Market Porter, due to lack of inside seating, everyone tends to pile outside onto the street which is nice in the summer but not so great in the winter. The pub has a good range of beers such as Leffe Belgian beer and the bar staff are young and friendly. As for the food, I wasn't really very impressed as it is expensive for what you get and you tend to wait....and wait....and wait for it to arrive. It is one of the more sociable pubs that I have been to however, and because it gets busy so quickly, you do find yourself chatting to people whilst waiting to get served at the bar.

Located a short walk from the ever-popular Borough Market, The Southwark Tavern attracts a mixed crowd of shoppers, students, professionals and locals. On the weekends especially this place will be filled to overflowing so if you're looking for a quiet drinking spot then this probably isn't the place. Those who brave the crowds will find themselves in a traditional/trendy bar sporting comfy sofas, lots of original features and a gorgeous square bar. Set over two floors the upstairs is a more standard pub environment while the downstairs space provides an intimate nightspot with lots of hidey holes and corners. The atmosphere here is always top-notch and a constant buzz surround the place spurred on in part by the excellent food and drinks available. The menu is packed with a variety of gastropub cuisine with a leaning towards traditional English cooking albeit prepared with some very fine ingredients from the nearby marketplace. Drinks-wise there is a massive range of bottled and draught lager available as well as a good variety of wines and spirits which, like the food, come in at very reasonable prices. A great place to stop in pre or post-shop. Not too sure what the evenings are like here but The Southwark Tavern strikes me as a place that caters more to afternoon and early evening drinkers and diners.

The Southwark Tavern is an unusual but popular bar on the edge of Borough Market. They serve decent beers, including Budvar, Staropramen, and Früli, plus an interesting range of bottled beers. Upstairs can feel a little cramped, as there is not much seating or standing area, and it always seems to be pretty full even early on in the week. It can take a while to get served at the bar. Downstairs there are some larger tables, and also a series of what seems like prison cells! Each one of these cells has a table and seating for about 8 people, which can be a lot of fun if you are able to get one. The food is a little expensive, but pretty good. I've only ordered food once on a Friday lunchtime, and it took over 45 minutes to arrive, although we were warned that this would be the case beforehand. A good bar when it's not too busy.

Nice pub, very popular with tourists. They sell real ale, but a pint of about 4%, for £7.50 is a bit too much for us Londoners.

Given the location, I knew it was probably a tourist trap and I wish to avoid those usually but had no time so stopped in on a Monday afternoon for lunch. I'm so glad I did! I was in London only briefly and had yet to try proper fish and chips and I was definitely WOW'd. I've only had this in America, and this was definitely better than anything I've ever had. When it arrived on my table, I could feel the heat from the plate -- that's how scalding hot and fresh it was, and I loved that! The cod was absolutely massive, a thick portion of fish deep fried with the skin on within an incredibly crunchy beer batter. There were pieces of bone in it, but no bother, this only made it seem more fresh. The chips (thick cut fries) were perfectly crispy and both the fish and chips were insanely delicious with a bit of salt and malt vinegar (which I had to request by walking up to the bar). The dish came with a tartar sauce and ketchup, but tasted way better with the salt and vin. I absolutely love that the fish and chips also came with mushy peas, whereas most pubs only give you fish and chips alone. The dish was also very well priced at 9.95 GBP, and I was able to use my credit card, rounded up to 10 GBP because they have a 10 GBP minimum for using cards. I appreciate that this restaurant had free wi-fi, which I found out by asking my waiter, who quickly provided the secret code for me to use. In America you would never ask your server for this but I noticed that nearly every hotel and restaurant I visited during my 11-day tour of Europe offered wi-fi. Good on them, because how else would I check in to a restaurant on Yelp and shower them with praise and circulate promotional foodie photos on Instagram? During a weekday, many workers nearby flood this place to grab a pint during lunch....now, why don't I work in London? I would give this place five stars based on the food alone, but I am giving it four because I wished the service had been more attentive, as I had to go up to the bar to get malt vinegar and also to ask to pay my bill. I understand service in Europe is more laissez-faire than in America, but since this is a tourist spot I would have liked to be checked on by the staff at least once during my meal, and certainly to be presented with the bill. Note: They also serve Sunday roast dinner for 9.95 GBP on Sundays

Being from the states I am not as familiar with all the UK brands --- but they seem to offer a wide variety of beers (lots on tap) and cocktails. We arrived just after the work day, and the crowd was buzzing just outside. We did the self-seating option indoors, and sat down to a great view of the Thames river, as we pondered our meal choices from the menu. The location is just great. For a leadoff drink, I had to go with the house cask ale, which was the Fuller's ESB, a drink I've been enjoying since the 1990's, and it delivered as expected. I went with an order of Sausages with mashed potatoes and peas...it doesn't get much more classic than that, and I was happy with it, especially with the quantity (3 sausages!). Wifey was on the hunt for a meat pie, and she went with the Steak, Ale & Mushroom Pie, which I can report was wholeheartedly approved. One of the better pies we've had on the overall trip, and the best we had at a pub location. The overall vibe of this pub is exactly as you might picture it, and we weren't disappointed with any aspect. Service, though not overly patient (hey - they were busy), was competent and pleasant. Cheers!
