First off, BBQ can mean something different to everyone. With that, I am accustomed to meat falling off the bone and a lot of sauce. Southside doesn't seem to be about that, and that's okay. More than okay, it was deliciously astray from my normal. The meat is smoky and delicious with a small amount of sauce to give a hint of sweet and sassiness. Three meat dinner for two was enough for two, and there was a small amount of leftovers for the next day. Mac and cheese wasn't too saucy and the pulled pork sliders will have a place in my heart (and gut!). Ordering out is easy and pickup was a breeze. The parking situation is pretty simple with many spaces available. While it's not exactly my type of BBQ, I'll definitely be back. If you're in the mood for smoky ribs and brisket, with a killer pulled pork, this is the place. It's hard to achieve a subtle perfection and I thank Southside for their hard work. read more

I don't eat BBQ very often, so I took this as an opportunity to try a good variety of items from the menu. For proteins, I went with the wagyu brisket, BBQ pulled pork, and baby back ribs, along with sides of roasted garlic mash, cowboy beans, and pesto mac. Overall, the meats were well-cooked, tender, and packed with smoky flavor. The brisket especially had a nice richness to it. My only small complaint was that some of the meats leaned a little dry at times, so I found myself wishing they had given a bit more BBQ sauce on the side. The sides were definitely a standout for me. The pesto mac was surprisingly my favorite--mac and cheese can sometimes feel overly rich or heavy, but the pesto added a fresh, herby flavor that balanced everything out really well. The roasted garlic mash was creamy and comforting, and the cowboy beans paired perfectly with the BBQ. I also noticed they have sliders, tacos, and a few more creative items on the menu, which definitely makes me want to come back and try more next time. This place exceeded my expectations in every single way. First of all, I'm honestly not really a BBQ gal but Southside BBQ can definitely change that. I've been seeing this all over IG and figured I would try it. I did a to go order. You can easily call and order to go. The young lady who answered definitely knew her stuff. I told her I didn't know whether to get the hot links or the wagyu brisket. She recommended the latter, she even mentioned that they bbq their meats for hours! I ended up ordering the 1 protein +. 1 side. Wagyu brisket and roasted garlic mash with gravy. It came with 2 rolls, house pink pickles and jerk slaw. Omg!! Tried a new BBQ spot today and it definitely delivered. The baby back ribs were the highlight for me -- packed with flavor and smoked to perfection. Easily my favorite thing on the menu. I also had the brisket burger, which was great. The beef patty was already tasty, and the brisket on top just took it to another level. They offer a good variety of sides too. I went with the mac & cheese and smashed potatoes with gravy, and both were solid comfort-food choices. One thing I thought was really unique was their BBQ potstickers -- a cool twist that actually worked and tasted great. Overall, everything I tried was really good. If I had to pick a least favorite, it would probably be the pork belly, but even that wasn't bad compared to the rest of the meal. Tacos were decent but I will focus more on their BBQ Definitely worth checking out if you're a BBQ fan. their services was great and very friendly and helpful. This might've topped some of my favorite BBQ spots in the 626 area. The Asian influence in the herb marinated veggies and the pork belly are done so well. The meat is cooked phenomenally and the sliders, tacos, and potstickers are so unique. The only dish I wasn't blown away by was the mac and cheese. The ribs are cooked really well but the mac and cheese itself could've done with a little bit more salt. I like savory food so others will probably not mind. Overall it is really good and I am excited that it just opened. Service is great as well so it makes me want to come back more just because how nice they were. read more

3/8/2026 Came with a large group all our first time here. I had the 3 item combo with 2 sides. Waygu brisket, pork belly and grilled chicken breast. My sides were Cowboy Beans and veggies. If you're carving for a heavy Texas style BBQ this isn't the place for you. The protein has a lighter flavor I especially liked the Brisket. The chicken and the pork belly needed to be drenched in BBQ sauce it just lacked flavor and seasoning. I wouldn't get the veggies again lacked seasoning, the Cowboy Beans was pretty tasty. This is a fairly new spot in an area that doesn't have many restaurant options, especially good ones, so I really want it to succeed. It definitely has potential, but it feels like it's still working through some operational kinks. A couple of menu items weren't available (or at least not that day), which made ordering a bit frustrating. It would be helpful if they clearly listed which items are available on certain days to avoid having to rethink your order. (Yes, I pick what I want before due to lunch time crunch) The place itself was clean, which is always a plus. Service was okay, but there's room for improvement. I had a lovely experience at Southside BBQ Co (Montebello). I ordered the Wagyu Brisket Burger ($21 - Medium Rare). It's EXTREMELY delicious! I wanted to scream in joy as I bit into its hefty, juicy meat. I felt humbled. With shaky, eager hands I ravished that perfect burger. I felt happy. (Important: Bring cash. There's a 4% additional charge for card.) I arrived at Southside BBQ Co (Montebello) on Friday (around 1:02PM). Parking is easy; the lot had many empty spaces when I'd arrived. Staff (identified as Jack) is professional, diligent, and helpful. Jack provided useful recommendations from the cheese to the BBQ sauce. Jack also maintained a welcoming, kind demeanor during my entire experience. The food arrived in 19 minutes 35 seconds. Personally, this lengthy cook time for one burger is a little worrisome since there were almost no customers during my visit. Still, it was worth the wait. As mentioned, I ordered the Wagyu Brisket Burger ($21 - Medium Rare). It's Wagyu Brisket AND a 1/4 Wagyu Patty; it included big, fluffy brioche buns, cheddar cheese, and caramelized onions. The flavor of fresh, clean beef radiated lovingly. The brisket had a light smoky flavor, and it seductively fell apart in my mouth. The 1/4 wagyu patty reminded me of a juicy meatloaf. It's BIG. Each bite felt euphoric! Regarding ambiance, Southside BBQ Co (Montebello) is gorgeous! The ugly, forgettable exterior hides an almost magical & enchanting interior with vibrant artwork and charming decor. I felt humbled at the effort this new, hidden business held... If it wasn't from a random visit on Yelp, I'd have never discovered it. Southside BBQ Co (Montebello) has about nine huge, sparkly tables. Everything looked shiny & new. The location is well-ventilated, almost chilly. The restroom is in the back corner. There's also loud, fun upbeat music. I also noticed several flat screen televisions, but they were off during my visit. Overall, I found unexpected happiness at Southside BBQ Co (Montebello). It's one of the best hamburgers that I've ever tasted; the satisfaction is comparable to the Gordon Ramsay Burger in Las Vegas while also being cheaper!! 5-6-2026 My partner saw their BOGO deals on DD, so I got to try the pulled pork mac, sliders, and burger (with provolone). The mac and cheese was great, and it stayed warm in the container. It was the only thing that didn't cool to room temperature. I like how the mac & cheese wasn't too salty. The sliders were actually pretty tasty, especially with the coleslaw. Was very disappointed for a bbq place you except smoked bbq flavors got pan cooked chicken, pan reheated hot links, brisket, pulled pork, and pork belly with no barbecue sauce or flavor what so ever. Cowboy bean and Mac and cheese was decent. Potato and macaroni salad wasn't good. Some how even the Hawaiian rolls had a different taste and not in a good way. I picked up my order. Customer service was exceptional. Husband and wife were very pleasant and gracious. Husband has a sense of humor and his wife is a sweetheart. Food delish. I had mashed potatoes, brisket, hotlink, cowboy beans and grilled veggies. Too much for one sitting so it lasted a couple of days. Came on 2/14. I believe this is a fairly new establishment. We ordered the 3 Proteins and 3 Sides for the bbq plate. We chose Wagyu brisket, pulled pork and hot links. And for our sides, Garlic mash, Mac and cheese, and French fries. It also came with 2 dinner rolls, a side of coleslaw and pink pickles. The Wagyu brisket didn't have the WOW factor for me. And it needed more barbecue sauce as it was kind of dry. I really enjoyed the pulled pork and the hot links. Service was good. I was really wanting to like this place but.. it just isnt good. The "wagyu brisket" was tough and chewy (so I feel like they are false advertising the meat) the mac and cheese had no flavor at all. I really wanted to like this place and support a new, upcoming business, but unfortunately I left pretty disappointed. I was honestly surprised by all the positive reviews based on our experience. Not sure if we just caught them on a bad day. The decor and overall setting of the restaurant were nice and inviting. However, the table bench seating was fixed to the floor, so we couldn't move it closer to the table, which made it uncomfortable especially with kids. The restaurant was understaffed. There was one waitress who was clearly doing her best, running around taking everyone's orders, along with a younger gentleman helping deliver food. Both were kind and polite, but the atmosphere felt chaotic. There wasn't much follow-up during our time. we had to immediately ask for anything when our dish came out, otherwise it would have been hard to track someone down. I also noticed a few parties waiting to be seated who appeared irritated after not being acknowledged for some time. The food took quite a while to come out. That wouldn't have been an issue if the flavors delivered, but unfortunately they didn't. The plates lacked flavor, and the sides were even more disappointing. The garlic mashed potatoes had no noticeable garlic flavor and tasted more like milk, and the fries had absolutely no seasoning, not even salt. I also wasn't aware there was a difference between "South Side" and "Southern" BBQ styles but the flavor difference was definitely noticeable and not what we expected. Southern BBQ ftw. We waited about 45 minutes for our food, and there was no communication or update from the staff during that time. When we finally decided to leave, the server had to ask us what we ordered so she could cancel it. That was concerning because it made it seem like the order may not have even been placed. Several other customers also left before and after us due to the wait, which suggests this wasn't an isolated issue. There didn't seem to be any sense of urgency or accountability regarding the delays. I understand that restaurants can get busy, but clear communication and follow-through are important. My partners and I are always on the hunt to look for good food to eat. We work in Commerce, and if anyone who works in that area, you would know that you have to drive out to neighboring cities to find good food. We passed by Southside BBQ in Montebello a few times when they were in the process of building and were anxious to try them out because the pictures on their windows looked good. They finally opened and the wait was worth it. Their smoked meats (pulled pork and wagyu beef) were tender with so much flavor. We also ordered their chicken and lobster Mac and cheese which was also good. The dishes were hardy and packed with so much meat, it was more than enough for me to eat. We'll definitely be back for more! The place was clean and there was plenty of parking at the front. It was slightly busy but I can see this place getting super packed in the future once the word gets out about this place. I had a chance to meet Jacko and to share with him how impressed we were with not only the value but the quality and taste of the food. We had such a great meal at Southside BBQ! Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The BBQ ribs were perfectly tender and full of smoky flavor, and the brisket was melt-in-your-mouth good.
