After years of unhappy to downright terrible experiences with various dentists, I finally decided…read moreto try a private dentist. Now, I know that depending on your priorities, there can be some downsides compared to the corporate factories many of us are used to. Things can take a little longer at a private dentist, from appointments to the labs. However, I'm quite certain I know exactly how I feel about the other guys and so, I gave this place a shot. I had it narrowed down to two places based on reviews, and the Yelpers here won me over. The waiting room is small, but seats about 7 and on our first visit for new patient appointments, we had plenty of time to look around. I noticed water and coffee available, and there is a small play room off to the side. There is also a computer, but I'm not positive if it's for patient use or another one for the office. There was an article about how the name of the business was chosen and how even the décor is chosen with that in mind. My husband liked that a lot, it made quite the impression. For our first visit, I was 2 minutes late due to a new construction detour. I hate being late, and I felt really bad, especially since I know Saturday appointments are coveted. However, when I was pulled back 25 minutes after my appointment started, I didn't feel too bad. Appointment times run long here, so I didn't get my cleaning on my first visit, because by the time it would have started, the appointment slot was over and I had to be available for my husband's appointment (short term memory issues, I always have to get his treatment plan details). The other factor was that I was informed they always do numbing with needles during a deep cleaning and I just wasn't mentally ready for that. The appointments running long were completely worth it though. Dr. Lan is very impressive! I have never seen a single dentist be so thorough. Before even looking at your mouth, he studies the x rays and has the assistant enter in all observations, including all the work you've had done in the past and what materials were used. Then he looks in your mouth to verify his findings and then he designates potential treatment versus what should be watched. I didn't have any cavities this visit, but he did identify an older crown that may not have been seated correctly the first time. He put it on the watch list to compare in 6 months. The only thing that wasn't perfect about the consultations was I asked if they had their own lab and pointed out that some of the work they designated down the line for my husband would result in the lab needing to make a new partial. The tooth was on the treatment plan, but not the partial. I brought it up on the phone with one of the front desk girls and she just told me to discuss it with the doctor. This put me off since I did bring it up with the doctor and they were putting the ball back in my court to remember to bring it up again in 6 weeks (our next appointment). However, that was the only time that happened. When working on my husband's root canal on the next visit, Dr. Lan was training several assistants. Since he was explaining everything he was doing and why and how he prefers to do things (and I've sat in on quite a few of these procedures) I could tell he was much better than the last three dentists I had been to, and much more careful. He's so good that any assistant will be a disappointment because they aren't Dr. Lan, lol. I'm sure they will grow to be as meticulous as he is under his leadership though. When fitting my husband's crown several weeks later, he continued to display that same level of perfection and then did something no other dentist has ever done in my presence: ask my husband what his plans are and what kind of dental work he would want in the future. My husband and I have been together 17 years this month and this was the first time that has ever happened, I couldn't get over that. Despite being very impressed, I had kept my review in draft until I had my deep cleaning. I am not really comfortable giving a 5 star review until I myself have felt how gentle they are and what the residual pain levels are. Unfortunately 2018 was one of those years where we would make an appointment and then various family emergencies pulled us out of town during that time. This happened on 2 occasions and then we went through an insurance change. The staff was extremely sympathetic to what we were going through and didn't make us feel guilty at all or threaten us with fees for the cancellations. So that means I have to post this review from our actual visits, but I'm still pretty comfortable with this rating from only my consultation and the work my husband had completed. Dr. Lan is the best dentist we've seen in Denton and I can't hold back a star because circumstances changed for us. If we end up with insurance that we can use at this office again, I will be running back here!

I immediately note 2019 ???? I've been going to Vanilla DDS regularly since 2015. During my visit on Wednesday, he showed me a big dark cavity at the base of my tooth, then he said the good news. No root canal needed. However, it does need a crown as the solution. I've been telling them for years that I've had a bad taste in my mouth, and they said nothing about the cavity they knew was growing on tooth 32 since 2019. They left that decaying tooth in the back of my mouth until it needed a $900 crown instead of a $50 filling. I've also had other major work done with them. Not a word. Stay away! Unethical at the minimum, evil at most. I literally don't know what to say. No, I have to add this to my list of ways to avoid being taken advantage of.

I LOVE THIS DENTIST AND THE ENTIRE OFFICE…read more I wish I could get them 8,000 stars. I have more than a few bad dentist stories which resulted in me avoiding the dentist at all costs. As you can imagine, that avoidance resulted in my needing an embarrassing amount of work. After having another dentist refuse to root canal the tooth she filled that remained painfully temperature-sensitive for MONTHS after the filling, Dr. Chowning gave me my root canal and all was well in my world. I felt zero pain during the procedure, and was actually kind of intrigued by the whole process. I even got to watch the machine cut out my new tooth! Hahaha. But since then, I've had some other work done there and I never feel like I'm being taken to the cleaners. It's also worth noting that he's had the exact same staff the entire five years I've been a patient. They've added a few people, but I don't think anyone has quit. No one ever seems stressed out or unhappy, which speaks volumes of the boss man, if you ask me. And the relaxed atmosphere goes a long way when you're at the dentist's office; anxiety is contagious. The mint on the pillow, though, is that they give you your own tube of lip balm for pretty much every procedure. They're just too great. I no longer hate the dentist.

I went in for a cleaning, wound up getting a crown replaced & pressured into a "deep cleaning". The crown fell out of my mouth on the way home! I went back for a new crown mold & had more cleaning. I went back a third time, got the crown affixed & finished the cleaning finally. I'd already paid over 1k & was asked for nearly $200 more due to their "collection mistake". I paid it, reluctanly, & was told I was squared up. Then several weeks later I get a text demanding over $400 more!!! Their office talked me in circles & kept blaming my insurance company. But this was their mistake. And really a simple crown & a cleaning should cost nearly $2000 out of pocket????? Don't let them pressure you into a "deep cleaning", for one, & secondly...just go somewhere else. It's worth noting that my husband just had emergency dental/oral surgery & it cost him just under $800 WITH our insurance. Make it make sense.

(Crown work) according to their "dental treatment plan" they said I owed an additional amount. I found it odd because I had paid everything already out of pocket. Fast forward, recently my new dentist was out on maternity leave. I was at a time crunch. Therefore, i returned to Denton Smiles and saw Dr. Tran again. They supplied me with a complete and detailed "treatment plan" including x-rays. Again it was several thousand dollars. I'm a senior citizen living on a small fixed retirement pension, but am serious and responsible about paying my debts even if I use credit cards. Again this time I paid punctually 2 large payments over a few thousand. Again, after a month of having paid my bill (treatment plan") and dental work was completed, mysteriously i was billed an additional $200. dollars. Now every week i receive a harassing text of owing $200. I have called, I politely emailed and texted. But no answer or response. I requested a meeting with their accounts manager to show them a copy of their treatment plan and the payments I made that paid it in full. No response not even out of courtesy! Total I paid this practice $10,000 ! All to Denton Smiles. Their behavior can put responsible paying patients with good credit into a debt collection agency that ruins their credit! CAUTION: This facility does not keep their word nor respects their own treatment plans and bills they provide to patients. Even when you pay in full out of pocket and clarify insurance doesn't cover it (which they already know) they'll look for a reason to bill you a month or two AFTER you've already paid your bill in full. These are deceptive practices squeezing additional money out of responsible patients and worse ruining one's good credit. Months later, I am still waiting for the appointment to settle the matter.

I felt embarrassed by that. I went into my first appointment here with the thought that none of my teeth were salvageable and I would need implants for every tooth. I had set the bar low because I had already grieved everything that my invisible illness had taken from me at such a young age. I didn't want to feel judged. That being said, Dr. Anver completely shifted my perspective. He was encouraging and comforting, while still respecting my perspective. He came up with a treatment plan catered to my own personal goals and was determined to do whatever he could to help me. I literally cried in the office because I had not expected that response at all, and he gave me the space and time to do so. His team does a phenomenal job at making their clients feel at home, creating a safe and welcoming environment for their guests, and answering any and all questions you may have. They made sure they met me where I was at and met any needs and expectations I had. They are the absolute best, and I would highly recommend them! (P.S. they play the best music too )

I would have been willing and preferred to wait for a later date for this surgery. Carefully do your own research and studies on the Internet. The office shows a video of implant surgery. I wish I had had a better education of what kind of problems to be aware of, and when to call the office. Implants are not perfect like the office video implies. There can be side effects and problems. I would have preferred knowing the down side of full mouth implants so I could make an educated guess/decision rather than rely on what a surgeon wanted me to hear For post surgery concerns, the office at Texas Center for Oral Surgery & Dental Implants instructed me to call the lab, which answers the phone 24/7. Nope. I called the lab. A few days later I heard a response on my voice mail (I'm paraphrasing here) "I'm at the Chicago airport, and not in the office, so I can't look at my records right now to answer your question. I'll see you in the office on Monday ." I was the patient. But, I had to turn into a detective to discover what problems needed attention. I relied too much on the Dr to make these decisions - bad mistake. I'm now considering paying for an independent consultation for help to understand what this business should have helped me understand. Five weeks before the scheduled final exam for the permanent implants, the assistant Dr announced, at that Monday appointment previously mentioned, that this was my last visit with the office The final decisions were going to be made that day, and I should visit my regular dentist should any other problems arise. Also my regular Dentist would install the implants. Surprise! How did I miss this? And how did I miss there would be an additional dental charge for crowns on top of the lower jaw implants? There was still swelling and I should have refused signing the paperwork acknowledging this as my final visit. The completely satisfied guarantee no longer applied. Dr Vicker's caring phone call came late at night, long after I was asleep. Don't be impressed by this service. My surgery was 9 months ago. I am still struggling to understand what might be causing my post surgical problems. Before my surgical date, the Flower Mound office called to ask if I would be willing to change my surgical date to a week earlier so the office could book an anesthesiologist for two surgeries on the same day. I agreed to do so - no problem. However, on the day of surgery, the office asked me to sign a form allowing Dr Vickers to administer the anesthesia. I read the paperwork work carefully and discovered this change without being advised of the change. My answer: "NO!" I have enough medical concerns that I doubted Dr Vickers would watch carefully even though his is "trained" in administering anesthesia. The anesthesiologist spent 30 minutes asking questions about my medical concerns related to anesthesia. I doubt I spent 5 minutes total with Dr Vickers before and after surgery. I learned a few months ago, that anesthesia is not required for this surgery. I would have appreciated knowing this so I could make an informed decision. I regret letting myself be rushed into these upper and lower implants. A few weeks after surgery and many questions later, I discovered the work for a $2400.00 charge was not done. I requested a refund and tge office graciously sent the refund.I think Dr Vickers failed to inform his billing department of the surgical changes. Don't rush into trusting this surgeon to do the surgery. Most of these reviews are old. Dr Vickers seems to have turned from a careful, attentive surgeon to a carefully calculated coorporate "get her done" attitude. There are analysts in the business world making loads of money by advising doctors how to build their practice, make more money and have more free time. Do your research to find this. I believe there are other oral surgeons in the area that are well-educated, experienced, and are able to be careful and more helpful. The office staff is pleasant. Dr Vickers is pleasant. Don't be fooled or manipulated by this.
