Southpoint Divers...a pleasant all-around dive experience in Key West, FL. The negative: There was really only one "negative" and as it turns out, it's a "Key West" thing and not really a failure on Southpoint. As a certified diver, I was sent on the dive with another certified diver as my buddy. That's all fine and dandy because we knew what we were doing, but having never been to Marker 32 or Nine Foot Stake before, we had no idea how to proceed or where to go. We ended up just kinda wandering around looking for something to see. This is probably the most important job (besides safety) of a dive master...to guide you and show you stuff. Having a $45 fee to have the dive master guide you doesn't make any sense. In 30 years of diving, I've never seen this. The positives: Literally everything else about this dive shop was positive. The shop owner, Patti, was a pleasure to deal with. She made sure that everything was in order and was very friendly and top notch in customer service. The crew was very helpful, friendly, and professional. Dean was meticulous in briefing the certified divers and helping us with our gear. Drew was a fabulous Captain and made sure that we understood all of the safety issues related to boating on the open ocean. There were four other guys onboard helping a class of four or five getting their certifications. Plenty of help for everyone! The boat - M/V Phoenix - was very roomy and had all of the safety equipment you'd need. It rode fairly well in 2-3 foot waves. The equipment was in pretty good condition, though I would recommend that they have "shorties" as a wet suit option. The full wet suit was a big hassle and I took it off for the second dive. The water was warm enough in late April to dive without a suit. The BCD, mask, fins, regulators, and tanks worked very well. Thank you so much, Southpoint Divers, for making my SCUBA experience on Key West a very enjoyable one! I'll definitely recommend you on base (at Sigsbee) and tell everyone I know what a wonderful job you did.

Great customer service. Had the best time diving in the keys. Kimberly was the instructor and she was very informative, professional, and friendly. Can't wait to come back and dive again! first time diving in the keys and can't wait to come back

I care trash derby and festival. Celebrating cleaning the ocean.

AWESOME! AWESOME! Southpoint Divers has been a fantastic find. They are safe and constantly calling the names on the manifest, checking divers well being and extremely friendly. They also give back by hosting the "icaretrashderby" and festival with the goal of cleaning the sea. They are the only company I dive with. Top notch company with top notch people! 5 stars not enough.

Doing a gear review of the Orca headlamp. Southpoint instructor Tommy was kind enough to shoot video with my GoPro.

Very professional shop with long track record of excellent service. Easy online booking. Instructors are solid with clear safety and environmental briefings and confidence on deck and underwater. Tommy an ex-commercial diver even invited un-guided divers to follow him on a reef dive. Insuring they were safe -- and had good time. Kim was actually on-board for a fun dive and allowed me to tag along with her on the Vandenberg while I completed a gear review and was able to see parts of the ship I wouldn't have found on my own. Overall, great team, great service. PS - at one point, my GoPro slipped from my clip and floated to the surface. Tropical Mike, the eagle-eyed captain of the Phoenix, caught the tiny glimpse of orange tossed a buoy to mark it and Tommy recovered. Above and beyond.

In 2015 I was certified as an Open Water Diver at Southpoint Divers and couldn't compare the experience with other dive shops. Now 8 years later after experiencing other dove outfits I can say they are top notch! Their equipment is up to date and the instructors/guides make sure you have everything you need. They are professional and knowledgeable. If you're like me and only dive once a year they'll help put your gear together which I really appreciated. The dive sites they take you are full of beauty. Can't say enough wonderful things about this dive shop. I'll never go anywhere else in Key West!

We both got certified, we dove the Vandenberg wreck, and it was one of the coolest things we have ever done.

And they allowed me to tag along and snorkel. David the dive master was super patient and kind. My husband was super comfortable following him on the dive and he loved his time at the reef. We of course had that "one know it all guy" on our dive but the crew was so patient and kind with him. Thanks to David for being an awesome teacher, the captain and crew for helping me out so I could snorkel and be part of the adventure. Thank you Leslie for answering all of our annoying questions and encouraging us to go. Wish we had more days in Key West, we would have gone again!

The entire crew from the front desk, to the deck, hands to the captain, are all amazing and make you feel safe. The crew here are seriously the BEST. even people that work here always dive with them on their day off that's how great these guys are! The boat is great, freshwater showers, and an upper deck seating area with great views. They even have a fresh water hose on board to rinse your gear off. Other Dive operations in Key West don't allow this. they want you to use their dunk tanks back on shore. Captains corner is also the most popular dive shop in Key West, which I like as a solo diver. It's easy to pair up with a buddy on board. This is important because in the Florida Keys most dive shops do not automatically give you a Dive guide in the water. You have to pay extra for a guide, so make sure you have a buddy! Also because they are more popular shop, they are less likely to cancel on you for having not enough people on board. Captains corner is more dependable with daily trips. My Favorite dive site is the Vandenberg shipwreck. It's an advanced dive 100 feet depth so they make sure only advanced divers with the proper experience can go for everyone's safety. If you aren't advanced, you can get your advanced certification through them, so you can do this Dive!

I got in the water and panicked. Kelly, our guide, expertly made sure I got back to the boat. Spencer, our dive master, helped me up and reassured me the whole time. I got to spend the next couple hours hanging out with Spencer and robin (the captain), which honestly, was a great time. What I loved is how committed they were to safety, and also making me feel valid in my decision to abort the dives. My partner successfully completed two dives and had a fantastic experience with Kelly guiding him. If/when we're back in key west again for diving, we will definitely book with Lost Reef again!!

Lost Reef Adventures...the worst dive shop that I have encountered in 30 years of scuba diving…read more The negatives: The owner, Nick, was extremely unfriendly to the point of being hostile. He had a serious attitude problem and had no idea what the concept of "customer service" meant. He just stares at you, waiting for you to say something...it's really creepy. After telling us to show up at 7:00 for the morning dives, no one from the shop bothered to show up until 7:45. The crew was only okay. The dive master acted like this was an annoyance to be taking us out on a dive...like he just wanted to get this over and done with. He just swam around for 45 minutes until it was time to re-board. The boat pilot told us, "We're not leaving the dock until you get your gear ready." There was one guy (with a mullet and ear rings) that was pretty cool and very helpful. The equipment was fair, but had some issues. The first tank that I hooked up to only had 1200 psi, turns out that 1/4 of the tanks onboard had previously been used and not removed or refilled. The fact that they all had the rubber covers on the valve (indicating a fresh tank) made it very confusing as to which tank to use. My dive buddy's regulator was inoperable. The dives were fair at best. I guess Key West really isn't that great for sea life when compared to the USVI or Belize, buy the dive master didn't even bother to point out sea life. EVERY dive I've been on in 30 years had a dive master that took pride in his/her job and did their best to point out - things to see - during the dive. I told the travel office on the base at Sigsbee not to recommend them. There are vastly superior shops like Southpoint Divers and Captain's Corner that will give you a much more pleasant experience. I dove with Southpoint on all of my subsequent dives in Key West. The positives: The boat was great - lotsa space for everyone, safety equipment was plentiful, and the safety briefing was well done. As I mentioned before, one of the crew (lives in Roatan, Honduras and was visiting his daughter) was very helpful but unfortunately, he was the exception. The BCDs, masks, and fins were fine. There's not really anything else positive that came out of my experiences. Do yourself a favor and use one of the other dive shops in Key West.

Luckily, Finz had availability - and gratefully, we had Captain Rob and Holly to steer us there! His communication was EXCELLENT with texts in advance to keep me informed and prepared. We took their 37' Park Shark, which comfortably sat us in a cabin with plentiful views. The ride was a bit rougher than a catamaran, but it took us from Key West to the Dry Tortugas where Holly acted as our private tour guide, sharing insights about its history while we enjoyed the migrating birds. Afterwards, we zipped into wet suits that they provided to snorkel around a sunken ship. I'd recommend bringing your own lunch, especially if you have a vegetarian or pescatarian diet, but they kindly provide plenty of snacks and ice water. Captain Rob and Holly made our trip one of our favorite family experiences. Here's a photo and video that Holly took from our snorkel adventure. I highly recommend Finz!

Highly, highly recommend this company.
