Booked a trip with these guys last minute after or other bit canceled due to visibility the day before and boy are we glad we did. They took us to the Vandenberg and we have 40+ vis after we were told it was 10 the day before. They took great care of us including hailing our gear and tanks to the boat. Our guide was amazing and worth the extra cost and the boat way very nice. The captain was extremely friendly and got us there and back with ease. The shop was the best we visited in Key West and we loved their shirts (bought several). We love their diving chicken logo. When we come back to Key West this is the boat we will dive with. read more

We were nervous since we had no gear and no 1st hand knowledge of any Key West dive shops but the entire south point team did a fantastic job! They set us up with all the proper gear, explained in detail what to expect when diving the Vandenberg wreck (which we had never dove a wreck before) and the certain safety considerations that were wreck specific. They were patient, courteous, extremely experienced and helpful on anything we had questions on. We had not dove for nearly a year and they made us feel very comfortable and safe. Great experience. As a lapsed diver, I did a swim pool refresher in the morning before joining the afternoon expedition to the nearby reefs. Our instructors Arden and Justin made sure the refresher was useful and thorough. In the afternoon, a 45min ride on the dive boat took us out to sand bar reef where we saw barracuda, goliath grouper, and a very lazy (almost friendly!) nurse shark thanks to our guide Alex. Two open water dives with max depth ~30 feet and visibility ~15 feet. Rental equipment was well maintained and the dedicated dive boat was large and well equipped. Two guided dives, a refresher dive and full rental equipment came out to a reasonable $195. read more

They are a courteous, by-the-book, 'do what I tell you and everyone will have fun' group of professionals that also know how to make you smile, maybe even laugh. We went to dive the Vandenberg Wreck with Southpoint Divers on a Saturday morning. The booking was really easy online through Keywestscubadiving.com; got email and text reminders up to the morning of our trip. The email said to arrive at the shop by 7:30am for the 8am dive, however a sign on the shop's front door said check-in was 8am to 8:15am. At 8:05am I called and was told someone would be there soon. About 10 minutes later, someone arrived and I was able to check our group in. If I would have known that, I wouldn't have arrived so early. I was prepared to buy or rent a mask since mine was broken but the dive shop let me use a mask and didn't charge me which was really kind of them. There's street parking that's $4 an hour, so be prepared to pay $20 since the boat doesn't return until around 12:30pm. The boat is a short walking distance from the shop, it's behind the Hyatt Centric Hotel. There was only 5 divers total on our boat, so plenty of room. They did place a solo diver with us, but we didn't mind and ran our dive plan with him beforehand. The boat has a toilet onboard, defogger, shower, cooler filled with ice for your drinks, and water cooler for refills. It's about a 35 minute boat ride to the dive spot. One our first dive, we took the second mooring line to check out the stern. You only get 17 minutes or when you hit 1000 psi, whichever comes first for safety measures. Did a 45 minute surface interval before our second dive. On the second dive, we took the same mooring line down towards the wheelhouse (super structure) and posed for photos with the Duval sign. When you return to the dock, they have two giant bins of water, one with fresh water and another with desensitizing agent for your scuba gear. They usually have afternoons and a night dive if they have at least 3 divers, or the dive could be cancelled. If you don't have your advanced or haven't dived in a while, you can hire a guide for $30 a person. If you leave your car in front of the scuba shop, there are plenty of places to eat and shop within walking distance after your dive. Thomas was the scuba instructor onboard, he was super friendly and helpful. They have an amazing crew who are very knowledgeable! read more

I had booked 2 consecutive days worth of boat dives (my hubby and myself were diving and we were going to get my son his check out dives for his Jr Open Water certification). The evening before we were scheduled to go, I received a call at 7:28 PM to tell me that their boat broke down and that they would not be able to take us. Now bare in mind, they had no idea, this was only 2 minutes before I was heading out my door to get married. This is just ridiculous. If they were having boat issues, why not tell your clients earlier as a precaution? You may not know their plans but it would be common courtesy to call ahead of time. Thank goodness the concierge at the Westin was kind enough to make some calls for me at 8:50 PM and hooked me up with Captain's Corner. Their boat is not the most ergonomic (ie tanks in the middle of the boat instead of on the back of the bench) but the crew was wonderful, friendly, and I could not have had better service. read more

Been certified for 27 years and dove all over the world and this is the first where there is no guide or dive master to dive with clients. In July 2020, COVID restrictions did not seem to matter. Divers were on top of each other and it was not possible to "social distance". So a dive tank is about 8 inches wide and typically there are a couple of tanks between divers. On this trip, a stranger was placed immediately next to me. I am very concerned about catching covid after this trip. read more

My wife and I visited Key West over the Thanksgiving break. The crew at South point were really helpful at accommodating our tight schedule and helped certify my wife in just 2 days. Mike was our instructor and guide and he did a great job walking her through all of her skills. We particularly appreciated the fact that he was patient, e.g. when my wife got tired and needed to move a particular skill lesson to another dive. The crew on board did a great job of setting us up with equipment and talking about what to see at the dive sites. Our dives on the first day were sadly lack luster due to poor weather, but the following day we had much better conditions and some fantastic diving. We saw turtles, sharks, giant conch shells, puffer fish and lobsters. Kudos to Mike for pointing a lot of these out. Finally I'd also like to shout out to Zach, the general manager who helped fit us with masks and snorkels. He was very helpful in figuring out the right foot and honest with his feedback on what was necessary at our level and what wasn't. Did the exploratory dives with Southpoint on Friday 2/17 and can't say enough nice things about the office, my instructor and the Captain and First Mate. Mike from Charleston was patient and knowledgeable and kept a really positive vibe going the whole day. I felt safe with him and we had a blast, despite lower visibility and not seeing a ton of larger sea life. As an instructor led course, Mike constantly checked in with us, kept an eye on our equipment and felt like a friend by the time we docked. It was a great day with the whole SP crew and I will definitely be back next time on island. read more

I have been diving for many years and I have never dealt with a dive shop with such low concern for diver safety. I just read some negative reviews on here and agree (albeit too late for me.) The most important thing to know is that when you get in the water you are doing it with NO DIVEMASTER. They take you out, set you up and tell you which direction to swim... but no divemaster in the water with you. One guy in our group was an elderly gentlemen who was pretty disoriented in the water. His weight belt fell off twice and he had a hard time getting it back on so I came to the surface to tell the guys on the boat but they didn't even jump in the water to help!! I couldn't believe it! I had to go to the bottom and find his weight belt and help him get it on. He was struggling so much and I was worried for his safety. By the time we got his belt on we had only a short time to check out the reef. And it was cloudy and murky so it was confusing and hard to keep track of which direction we were going. Most of our time was spent searching for other divers in our group so we wouldn't get lost. Heeeello. That's what a divemaster is for! I'm not suppose to keep track of where we are swimming. It was horrible all around. When we got back to the shop I expressed my concern for the lack of safety measures in place. The owner basically said too bad. You guys suck. read more

I really wanted to like this shop. I once belonged to the South Pacific Dive Club and prayed that with the common acronyms, it was premonition diving with South Point Divers would be great. Sadly, that was not the case. Firstly, South Point Divers are sticklers for the rule that all OW certified divers need to be guided on the USNS Vandenberg trip. That I am fine to comply with. However, I am NOT OK that they didn't even ask about a diver's logged history: # of logged dives, deepest and last date of dive. There was at least one example I witnessed where an AOW diver with 10 logged dives (all in nice Key West conditions) was allowed to dive without guide, however my bf with an OW license was made to go with guide: he has 50 logged dives, strong current & low vis experience, 140ft max depth achieved, dove in past 6 months. When we got to the boat, the captain, instructor and DM was lost when I asked about where to setup (in general boats want divers with similar experiences to group together). It seems they are used to having folks drop in and out last minute and no one wanted to organise groupings till the boat's on the way. Because they didn't ask about dive history, both dive groups had mixed ability which made the situation very uncomfortable for some of the more experienced guests (like myself). The Vandenberg dive itself... disappointing, and I love wreck dives!!! I dove with a guide because it was the only way I can be my bf's buddy. The guide kept very, very conservatively within dive tables - which SUCKS because every diver had a computer! Given the depth of the dive, we could easily have done another 10 mins without going into decompression. One person in our group did have buoyancy issues so why not just send him and his buddy up, while Mr Guide can keep going with us? Dive 2 was at a reef, which was fine with me. It was ok, not amazing. I am sure Key West has better reefs to offer (though I understand the conditions were tough on this day). The guides gave a thorough briefing, but did not want to dive this one... only explanation I have was that they were trying to bank surface interval for the afternoon charter. Didn't leave the guests with much confidence though, especially those who paid for a guide because they were inexperienced divers. So overall - I found South Point Divers to be a disorganized operation that's not the best choice for experienced divers. The silver lining in all this is that the crew is a nice friendly bunch, the boat is very clean and equipment new. read more

SHODDY OPERATION! Bait and switch tactics are abound. I have been diving for more than 20 years and when making a reservation the company tells you one thing and gives a price and when you arrive at the store to check in they change the price. Also , when I told the employees that I didn't appreciate their tactics they proceeded to tell me I was wrong and tried to pit my dive buddy against me. Personally, this is the most poorly run operation I have ever seen and never even made it to the boat. I demanded a refund and left. I could not be paid to use this operation and would suggest other to avoid. read more

We booked a double dip on the Vandenburg and drove down just for this. They called and canceled the trip at 2 PM the day before. Too late for us to cancel our hotel room! Didn't even try to help us with finding another boat. We won't be using them again with this type of short notice. FYI they use an 800 number phone service (very rude too I might add) that has a name "Dive Key West Corp" similar to another dive Operator "Dive Key West Inc" a brick and mortar store. Makes you think you are booking for them and not Southpoint. Totally unhappy with this "corporation". We scrambled and found another operator but not for the vandenburg as was our desire.
