Max led this unruly crew on two excellent dives on the Cayman Salvage Master.

We dived the Cayman Salvage Master twice and the Vandenberg once with Max and Troy as dive masters. Stunning dives that we all want to do again. Everyone working with us was excellent. We feel like we found a diving home at this shop and will be back!

Great price for what you get, friendly & helpful staff, plenty of parking, shuttle to the dock. Would use them again.

Great dives with Capt Hooks. I dropped by and the team laid out different dive opportunities offered by their multiple locations. We are staying in Big Pine Key so I chose the Looe Reef which is a short 45 minutes boat ride. Skipper Will was jovial but very serious about safety briefing. Dive master Mark gave us a great overview of the area we would be diving. I was paired up with a capable open water diver Sally & had very smooth dives. Mates Michelle & Lynn were ready on the spot to help us out of our tank racks, on exit take fins, keep others clear of the ladder area, and guide us back to our tank rack. Mark shot a little video of everyone, mixed it, and shared for us to show our families the same evening on YouTube.

If you value your vision and your life do not dive with this company... I'll make it ashort story.. Their mask defogger was contaminated & gave me a chemical burn on my eye. I lost vision in one eye inside of the Vandenberg at 105 feet... The shop refused to cover my medical bills or refund my dives. Lawyers said i got all my vision back so we can't sue.

We need to shout out Captain Rick & instructors Ron and Victoria! Awesome time! Learned so much about diving, coral, etc. Was a wonderful day! We would return to Key West just to hang out with that crew again!

Where to begin? Bob answered the phone when I called to arrange a short diving vacation (4 days on the Keys, 3 with diving) with my family. Answered all the questions I had and then made a few suggestions for lodging and meals. On the day we arrived, he let us secure our luggage in the shop while we were diving because we couldn't check into the hotel yet. Bob and Cece operate an incredible shop! When we got to the shop, Charles got us signed in, provided the weights, and then debriefed us on what to expect. Talk about a well-orchestrated plan: set up and test our kits for a safety check and fix any issues before leaving the shop, load gear onto the truck, load passengers into the shuttle to the yacht club where the boat is. Taylor got us to and from the yacht club and let us know things we could do when not diving. Boat captain Jarret and divemaster Victoria were fantastic on the water. She provided the most comprehensive debriefing I've experienced in my 28 years diving! And she's got a sense of humor: "Go for distance if you're going to throw up," and "the fish want a warm meal too," were offered as encouragement to the diver who was seasick. And very seriously, she has a respect and passion for the health of the reef locally ("No touch, no take" when diving in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary) as well as globally. She shared my dismay when I described the diver I saw pulling himself hand-over-hand on the reef below. He wasn't from our boat. The diving was superb with Victoria describing topography and sealife we should expect. She was most attentive helping divers and snorkels both getting into and out of the water. On subsequent days, divemasters Brad and Max were just as helpful. The second day diving included divemaster Max and cheauffer Brad (what versatility, he dives and drives!). More serious fun and superior diving. It is noted that safety is a priority with Dive Key West; no solo divers and stay with your buddy group if you're assigned to one. It was great learning the background of the crew and it made the journey to the dive spots seem to pass quickly. The third day out we got to watch a fellow earning his rescue diver certification as we were doing our own dives. His check-out training was thorough and realistic. In fact, as passengers on the boat, we were in on a secret "man overboard drill" before we left the dive site. The instructors could've phoned-it-in, pretending, but no - they made it as authentic as possible. When the training exercises were completed, and we were under way back to the yacht club, the debriefing of his training provided meaningful, specific, constructive criticism. We were just flies on the wall, but if it were me receiving that feedback, I would not have felt belittled or diminished in anyway. The only downside was one member of my family who is acutely ill and was only able to dive the very first afternoon of our three day vacation. Bob and Cece could have smiled and kept our money, but they didn't. They offered a refund for the unused dives. A few days after we returned home, the shop called to see how our family member was feeling, if she recovered from her illness. If you put that altogether, we could not offer higher praise for Dive Key West. I know we will be back to their shop!

WONDERFUL experience. Robert at the dive shop was friendly and extremely helpful getting us fitted for rental gear. Dive master Sam was an excellent guide for our underwater adventure and knowledgable about where all the sea creatures liked to hang out. Smooth ride by Captain Zach! Great dive shop, boat crew, and diving. Highly recommended. We will be back!

Four of us dove with Captain Hook's out of Dive Key West from November 28-30, 2020. This was a great experience for all of us! We came down to get more experience and knock out the dive portion of several different specialty diving classes. Our instructor, Max Ebel, was fantastic! He taught clearly and made it fun. He had an assistant instructor, Jess, who was also wonderful. They made us feel safe and showed us around the USS Vandenberg wreck; we practiced wreck diving skills and did our first deep dives with them! We also visited the Haystacks with a guide named Sam, who was calm, collected, and is a great relationship counselor . Finally, a shout out to H-Ro, the lionfish killer, whose stories kept us entertained! The staff and crew were all very professional and also a lot of fun. It can't be easy for them to take a bunch of divers with only 15-30 dives under their belts and keep them all safe and show them a good time, but they made it easy and fun. We would dive with this company again any day!

A huge thanks to Dive Key West! Amazing dive instruction. Victoria you are the BEST!

We of course had that "one know it all guy" on our dive but the crew was so patient and kind with him. Thanks to David for being an awesome teacher, the captain and crew for helping me out so I could snorkel and be part of the adventure. Thank you Leslie for answering all of our annoying questions and encouraging us to go. Wish we had more days in Key West, we would have gone again!

The entire crew from the front desk, to the deck, hands to the captain, are all amazing and make you feel safe. The crew here are seriously the BEST. even people that work here always dive with them on their day off that's how great these guys are! The boat is great, freshwater showers, and an upper deck seating area with great views. They even have a fresh water hose on board to rinse your gear off. Other Dive operations in Key West don't allow this. they want you to use their dunk tanks back on shore. Captains corner is also the most popular dive shop in Key West, which I like as a solo diver. It's easy to pair up with a buddy on board. This is important because in the Florida Keys most dive shops do not automatically give you a Dive guide in the water. You have to pay extra for a guide, so make sure you have a buddy! Also because they are more popular shop, they are less likely to cancel on you for having not enough people on board. Captains corner is more dependable with daily trips. My Favorite dive site is the Vandenberg shipwreck. It's an advanced dive 100 feet depth so they make sure only advanced divers with the proper experience can go for everyone's safety. If you aren't advanced, you can get your advanced certification through them, so you can do this Dive!

The day we went, the waves were pretty choppy. I got in the water and panicked. Kelly, our guide, expertly made sure I got back to the boat. Spencer, our dive master, helped me up and reassured me the whole time. I got to spend the next couple hours hanging out with Spencer and robin (the captain), which honestly, was a great time. What I loved is how committed they were to safety, and also making me feel valid in my decision to abort the dives. My partner successfully completed two dives and had a fantastic experience with Kelly guiding him. If/when we're back in key west again for diving, we will definitely book with Lost Reef again!!

Lost Reef Adventures...the worst dive shop that I have encountered in 30 years of scuba diving…read more The negatives: The owner, Nick, was extremely unfriendly to the point of being hostile. He had a serious attitude problem and had no idea what the concept of "customer service" meant. He just stares at you, waiting for you to say something...it's really creepy. After telling us to show up at 7:00 for the morning dives, no one from the shop bothered to show up until 7:45. The crew was only okay. The dive master acted like this was an annoyance to be taking us out on a dive...like he just wanted to get this over and done with. He just swam around for 45 minutes until it was time to re-board. The boat pilot told us, "We're not leaving the dock until you get your gear ready." There was one guy (with a mullet and ear rings) that was pretty cool and very helpful. The equipment was fair, but had some issues. The first tank that I hooked up to only had 1200 psi, turns out that 1/4 of the tanks onboard had previously been used and not removed or refilled. The fact that they all had the rubber covers on the valve (indicating a fresh tank) made it very confusing as to which tank to use. My dive buddy's regulator was inoperable. The dives were fair at best. I guess Key West really isn't that great for sea life when compared to the USVI or Belize, buy the dive master didn't even bother to point out sea life. EVERY dive I've been on in 30 years had a dive master that took pride in his/her job and did their best to point out - things to see - during the dive. I told the travel office on the base at Sigsbee not to recommend them. There are vastly superior shops like Southpoint Divers and Captain's Corner that will give you a much more pleasant experience. I dove with Southpoint on all of my subsequent dives in Key West. The positives: The boat was great - lotsa space for everyone, safety equipment was plentiful, and the safety briefing was well done. As I mentioned before, one of the crew (lives in Roatan, Honduras and was visiting his daughter) was very helpful but unfortunately, he was the exception. The BCDs, masks, and fins were fine. There's not really anything else positive that came out of my experiences. Do yourself a favor and use one of the other dive shops in Key West.

The ride was a bit rougher than a catamaran, but it took us from Key West to the Dry Tortugas where Holly acted as our private tour guide, sharing insights about its history while we enjoyed the migrating birds. Afterwards, we zipped into wet suits that they provided to snorkel around a sunken ship. I'd recommend bringing your own lunch, especially if you have a vegetarian or pescatarian diet, but they kindly provide plenty of snacks and ice water. Captain Rob and Holly made our trip one of our favorite family experiences. Here's a photo and video that Holly took from our snorkel adventure. I highly recommend Finz!
