Food was good. Service was great! Kid friendly with a wide variety of selections. Worth checking out.

Southern Stone has a comfortable and unique interior. Modern without being pretentious. I had the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich. Crispy, flavorful, and when paired with sweet potato fries, filling and delicious. My partner had the double smash burger. It was cooked to perfection, had a satisfying amount of condiments, and the cheese was at the perfect meltiness. Our server, Abby, was friendly, fast, and helpful. This was for a 1:00 brunch, which was not overly crowded. The dinner is also delicious, but there is inadequate parking in the evening. read more

Southern style favorites in a Midwest college town. Had various apps and entrees with our group, all of which were quite tasty. Save room for the desserts read more

the shrimp and grits was great! The server named claire was one of the best waitresses I've ever had, so full of energy!

The food was good. The service was very good. The ambiance was totally ruined by a live musician who played ok. Sang badly and had everything turned up TOO LOUD. Not conducive to conversation. This place is all hard surfaces and it is noisy and bouncy without an amplifier turned up too high. I have sung in restaurants myself in the past, I know from experience that you have to pay attention to the room acoustics and do a proper sound check to adjust your system properly for the space. This performer just showed up and turn his equipment on full blast within regard to the impact on the room. The management failed to check on whether the resulting noise was at all welcome to their patrons. Even though,as I said, the food and service was good, I won't come back if that kind of noise masquerading as music is present. In this musical town, I expect better attention to acoustics and performance quality. Don't let this kind of careless noise kill your primary business of feeding people. read more

The restaurant has a good atmosphere. They had activities for the kids to do while waiting on our food. All of the food was hot & fresh. Everything we tried was amazing! They didn't miss up our order or forget anything. The waiter was kind & checked on us frequently. The food was expensive, but you buy for what you get. read more

What a delightful find! We were meeting another couple and were a bit early. We were offered a seat at the bar or access to our table ahead of our reservation. Our waitstaff was pleasant, helpful and patient. Our dinner guests arrived just as we were deciding on our drinks, so offered to come back once we were all settled. Our wine was great, as were our meals. (oysters, pasta, tenderloin and the Hot Mess which I loved!). Dessert was shared and while good, it was a bit disappointing as their Key Lime Pie wasn't really pie. Tasty, but not as expected. All in all, a nice evening with great service! read more

Despite the no-so-great reviews, my 2 daughters and I decided to try this this place for the first time tonight. We went about 5:30 on a Wednesday, so it wasn't busy at all. Waitress, Claire, was great. I got the Hoosier Tenderloin and fries. One daughter got a chicken sandwich and fries. Other daughter got the smoky mac & cheese. We didn't have to wait long for our food and it was hot. We all thought our meals tasted great. My tenderloin was one of the best I've ever had. We didn't order drinks -- we all just had water. Total bill, before tip, was $52. So not cheap, but not crazy for 3 adults. We all liked it and will definitely be back! read more

Had no idea and stopped in on a whim as we drove by. It was graduation weekend (we also had no idea about that!) but they were more than gracious and welcomed us in. The food was great, the restaurant is so cute inside, and we enjoyed it read more

Made a reservation that was not honored with two kids and two adults. We were very rudely turned away with no attempt at trying to honor the reservation and no apology. read more

We were the first seating of the day on Sunday at 9:30. Didn't seem quite ready. Asked for coffee refills 3 times. Food was just ok for the price. French toast special was just 2 pieces of regular bread with cream cheese spread in the middle. No one was at the front of the house/ host stand when we left, and no one asked how our breakfast was. Won't be returning. read more

Terrible service! Food took over an hour to come, took our reservation when they couldn't even complete the task! Good job!

Worst restaurant experience that I've had in a long time. My family waited almost 2 hours to receive our order which was apparently lost in the kitchen. My father's steak was over cooked and cold, my husband's shrimp and grits tasted like leftovers warmed up in a dirty pan, and everything else was mediocre at best. Our waitress never came to refresh our drinks. It's no wonder this place had reservations available on Easter. Even with 50% off, the food was not worth what we paid. We will never be back. read more

Terrible vegan selection. My salad was made with fresh ingredients but our table's order took about 45 minutes to come out, and I was given canola oil instead of salad dressing. The David Ruffin tunes were nice. read more

I just wanted to order some lunch from a place I drove past daily. I ordered the shrimp with grits and a shrimp burger. Tremendous food. I live in Chicago so I've tasted great food but this right here was stellar! read more

On the evening of Saturday, June 18, my wife and I dined at this restaurant. We finished at about 7:30 and returned home. Approximately 2 1/2 hours later I became extremely ill. I experienced nausea, vomiting, abdominal pains, and liquid diarrhea. This lasted for more than two hours. I attribute it to food poisoning. For the next 36 hours, I experienced weakness and fatigue. At around 2:30 AM, following this dinner, my wife became ill and vomited. I have never experienced such severe illness in my life and I never desire to again. I strongly recommend that NO ONE eat at this restaurant, Southern Stone. Michael Hicks 6331 E. Castilla Ct. Bloomington, IN 47408 read more

Went on a Tuesday @ 5:45, no reservation. The hostess was condescending "let me see what I have" the place was basically empty. We were seated by the bathroom. Waitress was clueless about drink menu, ordered an app to share brought no side plates. One in my party ordered soup & sandwich and a salad, was asked what did they want first, answered salad. Got the soup. When we left at @ 7 the restaurant was still empty. Food was good but the attitude and basic wait staff awareness and skills left a bad taste. read more

We really enjoyed eating on the patio at Southern Stone. All tables were spaced a part, and the staff were all wearing masks. We ordered the catfish bites as an appetizer and they were delicious. I ordered the fried green tomato blt and my husband had the Dixie chicken. This restaurant transitioned from Sweet Grass somewhat recently. I enjoy it more now! I had a hard time deciding what to order, and we plan to visit again. They have a brunch menu that also looked good. Nice selection of draft beers. We were seated immediately on a Saturday night, and we noticed they also take reservations. Forgot to take pictures of the food, but we loved it all! read more

We had a party of 6 and all our food was really good. We ordered at least 12 things from the menu counting appetizers, entrees and desserts. I will be going back for sure. Friendly staff and great food. read more

As a Server and Bartender of 20+ years, I have to say this was the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. It took 10 minutes to get water, we ordered immediately when the server arrived. Our apps took 30 minutes to show up. We asked for a drink menu when we ordered out apps and entrees and never received it. After 15 minutes I had to go and get one myself. They informed me that my shrimp was bad and they couldn't serve it to me (thank god), but after 45 minutes I finally received an order of baked oysters. They were absolutely horrid and I wasn't able to eat a single one. They were out of several wines, they didn't even have Jim Beam which is a very common Bourbon. They were out of Coors Light. The service and quality of food were so bad that we were tempted to walk out. This was a horrible experience. When I left, there was a couple waiting to be sat and I told them to Run. This restaurant won't last another month in my opinion. read more

I have never written a review on any restaurant before. Today was a awful experience ! We were greeted coldly from the person who sat us . The table for our party of eight was dirty over and under the glass - we were told it was only Under the glass - crumbs - dirt! Not true! - but under and over not good either way!!!!!! It was reluctantly went over with a rag - still dirty - yuck! We would have left but waiting upon 6 people - Then we all noticed a terrible SMELL while waiting over an hour for food - THAT WAS PROBABLY THE WORST PART. Tables all around us dirty fro dishes not picked up after diners gone - Not to mention the small stuff like food served without silverware - and no coffee refills. This restaurant was clearly short staffed - and it was not a good overall - We will not be going back! read more

My wife and I tried Southern Stone last Friday. I have to say we will not be returning between the over priced lack luster food and a wait staff you have to hunt down it was not a good experience. First I will start with our drinks my wife ordered the strawberry tea cocktail I tried a sip to say it was not good would be an understatement almost undrinkable it was bitter and sour at the same time could not tell it had any strawberry flavor at all. My ruby bloom beer that I ordered was nearly flat. The appetizer we order was the honey sriracha shrimp which we actually enjoyed the shrimp the deep fried banana peppers that also came with it was not. I would not order this again should come with a warning not everyone enjoys surprise deep fried banana peppers I know i did not. The. Came our entrees my wife ordered the sweet tea brined fried chicken after she took a couple bites I knew she did not enjoy it and she stooped eating it. I had ordered the blackened shrimp tacos which came nearly cold and without any blackened seasoning on them just fried shrimp with burned cheese and some pico sauce. As a side item we had both ordered the chips and pico the chips we both enjoyed but the thimble sized container of pico was pretty hard to dip the chips in. In all I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Its over priced and snobby staff don't want to help or serve. read more

I was a big fan of Sweetgrass when I lived in Bloomington... came back to Btown hoping to enjoy one of my favorite restaurants and was extremely disappointed... Sweetgrass used to be synonymous with great burgers and AMAZING homemade chips. The rebranding to Southern Stone has resulted in a mediocre and generic menu with sub par burgers (I could have gotten a simar burger at Steak & Shake). The french fries which replaced the beloved chips were a step below Ore-ida frozen fries with some seasoning salt on them. Also the new decor and check books were cheap and tacky. I miss the real and classy southern charm that Sweetgrass had. I hope at some point I can have a real Sweetgrass experience again :( read more

We were here for a late lunch on a Saturday. I had the shrimp tacos (blackened, on lettuce). The tacos originally came out in flour tortillas. The wait staff took them back and placed them on lettuce. My husband had a grill ham and cheese sandwich. The shrimp and the sandwich were cold, but tasted fine. The french fries and green bean side were good. Service was fine. The experience was not bad, but we wouldn't seek the place out for lunch again. They offer brunch, and we might try that sometime. read more

COVID safe. We ate outside but in & out tables well spaced. Fillet excellent $$$, crab cakes excellent, asparagus tough, garlic mashed excellent, service outstanding. As we walked through to go outside we noticed this establishment is still very cold inside. We'll definitely dine here again if outside is warm enough, but we'll not dine inside due to temp. We'll come for the food. Very enjoyable and safe dinner. read more

A very busy game weekend. A stellar management and professional staff. All trying hard to please a demanding crowd.

Ordered carry out tonight. Both of us wanted the Cajun chicken pasta so they asked if we wanted the special for two. We didn't know what that meant but apparently it is a huge container of pasta, enough for two salads and a dessert you can share. It was a deal and we will have enough leftovers of the pasta for another meal. We also asked for toasted bread as a side and it was delicious especially when you dip it in the Cajun pasta sauce. Highly recommend this place! read more

Positive first. Dinner was outstanding. The food was magnificent. We came in on a Saturday night without reservations, and we were seated right away. However, my husband and I ordered cocktails. We didn't get them until 15 minutes after we ordered. It would be one thing if they were busy. However, we were the only ones inside and there were about four tables outside. A husband and wife came in 10 minutes after us, and he ordered a G&T. He got his drink before we did. It was disappointing because a few minutes after we got our drinks, our food came. We always like to enjoy drinks before dinner, but we didn't have the opportunity. Like I said, delicious food. Very slow bar service. read more

Overall terrible experience. Graduation weekend with my parents and sister and just trying to end the night with an enjoyable dinner. Not only do our drinks take an incredibly long time to arrive but my moms drink is then spilt on my dad and I, with no compensation at all for the incident. They would make zero accommodations to their "set" menu even if it was due to dietary restrictions. Furthermore, the manager and our waitress struggled to figure out how to split a bill between two families while charging a 15% automatic gratuity and 20% service charge on top of a $60 per person reservation fee for a $30 meal at best. Great place! read more

We had a reservation for 8:15 pm. Arrived at 8 and were seated immediately. Ordered food and it arrived at 9:32 pm. Enough said. Horrible to have to wait nearly an hour and a half for food. Felt sorry for our server, Abby, who kept apologizing for the wait. Not her fault. Won't be back. Far too many dining choices in B'town to bother with Southern Stone. read more

The only vegetarian option is a $19 black bean burger. My boyfriend and I loved eating at Sweet Grass and we were excited to try the new menu, until we realized the lack of accommodations. It's a bummer since this is the closest restaurant to our house and has such a nice patio area. read more

Southern stone never disappoints. I have been three times now and each three dishes have been some of the best food of my life. I recommend this place to everyone around because I feel like it's unique and is honestly my favorite place in Bloomington. Their outdoor seating also has great atmosphere and is 10x better than sitting in the road downtown. Go eat at southern stone read more

I don't usually write reviews but am compelled to do so, given how great the food is. My family and I sampled different dishes and each one is fantastic. The biscuits and gravy took me back to when my Nana and mom would make homemade buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy. Absolutely everything is on point. Great staff, great food! read more

Food was excellent. Service was amazing. The place was very clean and our waiter went above and beyond to make our first experience special.

My fiancé and I had never eaten here before, but we were craving burgers and Southern Stone offered reasonable delivery on UberEats so we decided to give it a try. We were so pleasantly surprised! The burgers were so delicious, huge, and obviously great quality, we were both raving about the thick bacon and the taste of the burger in general. We also loved the sustainable to-go packaging.. brown paper bag and brown boxes, no styrofoam involved. We will definitely be back, and we highly recommend the burger! read more

the fried chicken sandwich was WAY too big. trust me, I appreciate large portion sizes, but I don't like it when the chicken cutlet is far bigger than the sandwich buns. it makes it almost impossible to eat. the fries were good, though. just will never order their fried chicken sandwich again. read more

If you like sitting in previous customers' filth and paying too much for mediocre food, Southern Stone is for you! I figured I'd give it one more try after the last round of horrible service and overpriced food, and it was a mistake. The place was Disgusting. Filthy bar covered in previous customers slop and the host put the silver wear on the bar right in that filth? The fact that a bartender or anyone that works there would even leave the bar in that condition, and leave the bar, says all I need to know about management and staff. What kind of bartender leaves the bar covered from end to end in food remnants and liquid and leaves the bar? One that should not have a job. The place has gone down hill with no brakes since the last management took over, and the current management is also incompetent. Filthy, zero stars, not going back until the current management runs it into the ground and is forced to sell it because Southern Stone still sucks. read more
