    Shrimp and Grits. Yum!
    Brian B.

Such a good place for breakfast. It is Southern style and tends to offer a little spicier cuisine than some. Please be sure and ask questions before you order. Today I tried the country fried steak. The sausage gravy was full of flavor and had some zing. The over easy egg was on point but the hash browns could have been aa little bit crisper. Over all the food was great and Amy W was wonderful. Thank you Southern Spoon!

Fast friendly service. Food is always fresh and delicious. My husband and I have tried several different dishes here and all of them are wonderful. Thier shrimp and grits are amazing. If you love fried green tomatoes try their Fried Green Smoky BLT's. Our daughter wasn't sure what she wanted but decided to try Kyle's Monte Cristo and she fell in love with it. Come give Southern Spoon a try, you won't be disappointed.

The southern spoon just opened up about a month or so ago in Middleville and they have the best breakfast of anywhere in this area. This is my second time going because it was so good the first time and I can't wait till the next time. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is so great and the people are so friendly. The owners, Kyle and Kenna are almost always on site helping cook, dry and roll up silverware, visiting tables to talk to the customers and find out how their meal is. I would expect nothing less considering they own the sandbar next-door, which is also very delicious and well run. It is obvious they truly care about the restaurants and the happiness of the people that visit them. It is also important to know that their meat comes from Tom's meat market up the street and they have the best meat around. One of our waitresses Amber was so friendly and helpful. The first time we went, I tried the shrimp and grits, which is hard to find anywhere in this area and especially hard to find as good as these shrimp and grits are. The kids had pancakes and bacon and the pancakes were huge and the bacon was so thick and delicious. my mother ordered the eggs Benedict because that's her favorite. Go to breakfast food and she enjoyed it and said it was some of the best eggs Benedict she has ever had. We also ordered a half order of the biscuits and gravy because we both love biscuits and gravy and we try biscuits and gravy every place we go. My stepfather used to make the best biscuits and gravy and we are always searching for something even close to what he used to make, and this is probably the closest we've come. Homemade gravy with lots of sausage and just the right amount of spices make this the best. The next time we visited, I really wanted some more of those shrimp and grits, but I broke down and tried something different and got the low country which included two eggs, potatoes, toast, and skewers with sausage and shrimp on them and it was so delicious. We look forward to going back very soon and hopefully trying some other things on the menu.

You simply will not find a better breakfast in town…read more Wayland, Michigan is a small town in every regard and it's full of amazing people. The Auction House is quite literally all the best parts of Wayland, MI wrapped up in one dining experience. When you walk into this simple brick outbuilding of the livestock auction, you might be taken back by how tiny it is really is. About 20 seats wrapped around a U shaped counter. If all the seats are filled, just be patient and hang out by the door, something will open up soon. If you need seats together, it is not unusual to see a whole row of customers get up and shift their seats around to make room for you. That's just what you do because it's the right thing to do. Very Wayland. You'll also want to prepare yourself for small talk. When you sit at the counter, it's more like sitting at a giant dinner table in your kitchen at home. There's plenty of regular customers and it won't take long for you to become one yourself. Amy's food is outstanding and, trust me, you won't go hungry. I highly recommend the breakfast burrito, but people also go nuts for the HUGE pancakes and omelettes. Don't want a HUGE pancake? Ask for a little one...I dare you. See what happens. The burgers are also top notch. I love this place and the people who make it thrive. Belly up, and you will too!

The cheese hadn't melted so the omelette hadn't been cooked properly. The bacon was plentiful and tasty though. The best part of the plate was the wheat toast. I think it was homemade. On my way out of town from Gun Lake, I stopped at Curly Cone about 6 miles from the casino, and…read morehonestly, it ended up being one of the highlights of the trip. At first glance, it looks like a small ice cream stand, but it's grown into much more. There's a farm stand, a catering truck, and a full menu that goes way beyond desserts. They serve breakfast all day, along with burgers, shakes, and classic diner-style food. When we went around 9:30 a.m. on a Wednesday, it was packed with locals, which is usually a good sign. The food really stood out. The bacon was easily the best part--thick, meaty, perfectly cooked, with a rich smoky flavor that tasted like it came straight from a local farm, not a package. The home fries were another highlight, with chunks of potatoes and long strands of caramelized onions that felt very nostalgic and homemade, like something you'd get from your grandmother's kitchen. The atmosphere is very old-school diner. Lots of booth seating, a counter where you can sit and order like the classic milkshake-and-coffee spots, and an overall cozy, small-town vibe. The service matched that feel too--the waitress was extremely friendly and welcoming. One thing to note: it was very cold inside. It was about 26° outside that morning, but I still had to keep my coat on while eating, which took away from the comfort a bit. There's not a ton immediately around it--just a gas station across the street and a Mexican restaurant next door (which was closed when we went), though there are a few more options a short drive away. Overall, Curly Cone is a hidden gem. It may look like an ice cream stop, but it delivers a full, satisfying diner experience with standout breakfast food and a strong local feel. Just maybe keep your coat handy if you're visiting in the winter.
