Stopped by to check out Frank's and finally figured what we were doing wrong. Every time we tried to dine in, Frank's was closed. Or so we thought. Among locals, it's well known that there are two sides to Frank's. One side for daytime dining, and another side for nighttime dining. One may think that Frank's is closed, but it's really a matter of time of day to figure out which door to enter. Once you figure out that the two establishments are actually one, you're golden. The food? Can't complain. The service? Wonderful. What you should know. - They prefer cash payment. - Don't sit by the door. It's cold in the winter. - Be ready to order. The atmosphere here is an old fashioned Diner done in the Shotgun style. Red and White are the dominant colors. On the walls they have old photos and newspapers. Scattered around are classic Coke memorabilia. A very welcoming feeling. I ordered the Frank's "F" Bomb Burger ($18 with fries, $15 without). A triple patty equaling 1 pound. Topped with Ham, Bacon, Pepper Jack, Cheddar, and American cheese. The Burger was fantastic. Everything goes together perfectly. The enters my top 10 Burgers for sure and might be in the top 5. I also got a Root Beer Shake ($6), it was excellent. Something different than most places, but definitely tastes like Root Beer. The person I was with ordered the Honolulu Blue Burger. This is a burger topped with bleu cheese, pineapple, ham, teriyaki sauce. It was stated to be excellent. The service was excellent. Very friendly even though it was hectic. Overall an easy 5 star review. Would I return? Absolutely, I will definitely be back. read more

A few friends and I came out to Frank's on our way to a corn maze and were very happy to stumble in to Frank's. It was pretty busy on a Friday night around 6pm, not surprising, but we were able to put our name down (you have to be in the area to hear your name - they will call it out and not text you, but there is a hallway you can wait). It's a great value for what you get and it is nothing fancy. I love that they have coke zero which isn't always easy to come by and you can make coke zero with grenadine! YUM! My friends and I were really impressed and it's very diner style which was lovely. It was such a vibe and the serving sizes were great. The burger was good and quite large, we were very fully by the time we were done - and very happy that we were walking around a corn maze afterwards otherwise we would have been very full. I really honestly loved the refrigerator in the corner to show the authenticity of where they keep some of their items. Came in for tasty diner food and it didn't disappoint! I got the Franks F Bomb that has 3 patties. I thought the patties would be really flat ...NOPE! They give you full size burger patties. The gluten free buns....YES! GF buns were really good! Fries were really ordinary and unsalted and unseasoned but fresh and crispy. The atmosphere was super casual. Reminded me of a downtown Detroit Coney Island restaurant or other old time diner. Staff were nice and greeted everyone. The orders were cooked and served quick. read more

This is a great local bar/eatery in Zeeland. Me and our son got the Olive Burger, daughter-in-law got the Pub Burger and my wife got the Chicka Boom Boom. Everyone was extremely pleased with their choices. Those of us that got burgers agreed that the sandwich literally melted in our mouths. The side of fries was great and complemented the sandwiches. Prices were extremely affordable, service was attentive and our waiter was funny and friendly. Our experience here was okay overall but I did have an awkward encounter when going up to pay. So we ordered two kids meals (burger baskets) which did not say they were cheeseburgers, so I just assumed they were burgers. When they brought it, they came as cheeseburgers which is strange because the standard assumption for when something is listed as a burger is that it comes without cheese right? So I kindly asked that they be burgers and not cheeseburgers. Secondly, my husband ordered the burger meal that came with fries and a beer and I ordered the chili dog. My husband didn't feel like drinking the beer so I had most of it. All was tasty, however, when I went up to pay, he asked if we had one or two beers and I told the truth and said we had one. When the other server came up, he told the person at the register that we had two, at which I naturally denied because why would I lie? If we had two beers, I would pay for two beers because technically that's stealing and I'm not about that life, especially because we were out celebrating first day of school with my kids. Anyway, I tell him, we had one beer and shared it, please look at the table, there's one beer mug on the table, if we had two beers, there would be two mugs. The other server said "I just asked your husband if he wanted a third beer and he said no"... so I respond by asking if he knew what he was being asked? If you're walking by and someone asks if you want a third beer when you've only had one, do you stop them and explain it all or do you just say no and laugh and move on? It wasn't worth the correction when he was clearly busy helping other people and I again explain we had only one beer. It's as if they didn't believe me but I stand my ground and again say, if we had two beers there would be two mugs on the table, no one checked on us or brought anything else. So I pay for what we have and still leave a $6 cash tip on a $35 check but couldn't help feeling bitter as I was leaving about the interaction because why wouldn't they believe me? It just had me overthinking that because I don't look like 90% of people who live here is probably why they continued to question me and I really don't appreciate that one bit. We came to support local but we will not be coming back here due to the lack of customer care and service. read more

I have been to Frank's a handful of times now for lunch and it never disappoints! Great value for your food and it can be a quick bite. When you walk in you can just sit down anywhere and a waitress will approach you to order. Their burgers are awesome and the perfect diner burger. Their full order of fries is also pretty big so usually I like to split this with someone if it's for lunch. You can also chose all the toppings you want. For 2 people the bill usually comes out to around $25 which is pretty good with 2 sodas and 2 meals! I recommend this spot usually to anyone looking for something to eat in Zeeland :) Free parking all along Main Street if you can find a spot and parking lots available as well. read more

Our 1st visit to Franks East for dinner. Place was small and very crowded. Usually a good sign. We ordered 2 burgers and 1 fry to share. The Mudslide was excellent! The server was a friendly chap but after an hour, we had to stop him to ask him where our food was. He checked and said the cook had "lost" our order. It came out quickly after that - my bacon cheeseburger was dry and overcooked, the fries weren't hot or tasty. Very disappointing! read more

I hate to leave this review because we are locals and love to support our downtown businesses, but we are officially taking a break from Frank's after tonight's experience. It was busy when we got there, but finally after being sat, we place our order and waited almost an hour for our food. When we finally got our burgers and fries, all was over cooked and too crispy. Big disappointment after waiting so long. I'm not sure what is going on the kitchen, but this is the second time in a month that Frank's has been a disappointment with overcooked food. First time here and probably the last time. It was busy so had to wait for a table which is no biggie but no one told us where to sign in so we had to wait longer. Menu was good, my drink was delicious (something melons) but food was less than impressive. First they brought out the wrong burger to my husband and it took awhile to get our waiters attention to get it fixed. Second, burgers were over cooked and kinda blah. My burger came on a plate, my husband's came wrapped in paper...no plate...Kinda weird. For the price of the food, can't say it was much to talk about and we both agreed we didn't need to come back. read more

I went here while driving through the town of Zeeland. Public restaurant across the street was crowded and no one was at the host stand, so I went to Frank's hoping to have a quick lunch. My burger and fries were freshly made from patties and processed potatoes that they took out of a refrigerator/freezer in the main seating area. It took awhile. Great customer service and food. Go above and beyond your requests and or to make you happy and satisfied once done eating their delicious burgers. Of all the restaurants in Zeeland they are the cleanest and have best cleanliness than all others in area. Frank's west is set up like an old style diner celebrating their 100th year anniversary. So must be ding something right! Frank's East is more like a pub and serve many beers and mixed drinks, but still kid friendly and Grant is a great person/bartender and truly cares about the customers and their visit or experience. The owners are local family that are great people to have running this business (along with the Farmhouse Restaurant West of downtown). If you are in the area or looking for great burger, chicken wrap or atmosphere, i highly suggest stopping in. I had a delivery to make to Frank's bar side. The manager was on her cell in the middle of the restaurant on what sounded like a personal call. I needed a signature as well as getting someone to unlock the bar side door. She stayed on her phone for almost 10 minutes until I found someone who could help me. I was there for dinner on 7/20/2023 and our server Makala (sp) was an absolute a gem. The dining room was soooo busy and she kept the boat sailing high with pride. I adore the history of the place, and it's non Dutch presence. The burgers really are the best!! The fries really are the best things in the restaurant too! You shouldn't eat them cold. They get all slushy. When it's hot it's the best time to jump on them. Love the Coke memories. Great staff. Burgers haven't changed in the 30 years I've eaten them. Frank's is in Zeeland Michigan and has been operating since the 20's; no shit! Locals swarm the place, which has the ambiance of what I can only imagine is a 50's or 60's malt shop or dinner. This is not a bad thing unless you hate nostalgia. It's all about the burgers folks. You are not going to get served the cookie cutter patties here, it is a hand pressed piece of meat with irregular edges fried on an ages old griddle. If you don't choose a basket meal the burger will come wrapped in wax paper. Curious, but I suppose it keeps down on the dishes that need to be done and therefore rendering the prices reasonable. I stopped by Frank's last weekend with my two daughters after their gymnastic practice and with little other recourse all opted for various versions of hamburgers. I love olive burgers. The olive burger ($3.40) here is apparently from a time when olives were hard to come by in the backwater that is Zeeland. The olive sauce consisted of tiny chopped chunks of olive with what appeared to be a concoction of mayonnaise and mustard. I prefer actual chunks of olives, but if that is how they roll here, who am I to cast the first stone. I have had the double burger with cheese ($5.35 with chip & a pickel) and most likely will go with that next time. My girls live for the fried food so we also went with a side of fries ($1.95) and onion rings ($3.25). Do not order this if you want to live. However, do order this if you want great tasting original shoestring french fries and onion rings that don't sluff off their coating. Ignore the glossy pool of future arterial goo on the bottom of the basket. Salt, ketchup, and life is good if not a bit shorter. Basic stuff and a bit too rural for me, but if you like it, get here and relive your youth or pretend you are back in time. I burped up fryer grease for an hour or two but finished a half consumed patty my youngest left untouched the next morning without remorse. read more

Franks is a little hole in the wall place in Zeeland Michigan ( which is another hole-in-the-wall place, but thats another story). Franks specialty is their burgers and they're darn good! I recommend the Olive Burger and fries, which, if you like the thin skinny type fries, you'll love these. Eat them first so they don't get cold! Franks has been there for a bazillion years, and their food is still great! Also, the wait staff is usually pretty pleasant on the eyes. AND, the last time I was there for lunch, there was our state Senator and our US Congressman, all eating Franks burgers. Franks, I really really want to love you, you're within walking distance of my place, you have tons of authenticity and history, but what you don't have his service or anything resembling value. A historic and authentic place like this should have people lined up out the door, but Frank's doesn't. The place seems great for regulars, that just walk in and take a seat with the waitstaff knowing what they want before they sit down. But, if you're not a regular, you'll often walk in and take a seat without ever being greeted. Then once you order, it could be a while, often by the time your burger is off the grill it's lightly charred, and your side item has been sitting on the counter waiting long enough to get cold. Then when you get your check, you realize for the same money you could have went a few miles outside of town to Five Guys for the same price and got great service and a much better burger and fries. read more

Frank's is a nice little burger pitstop in the Middle of downtown Zeeland. I happened to stop here while on Vacation because I heard the burgers were pretty good. I don't know, maybe it was the old school diner set-up, the slower than usual service, my ADD kicking in, but everything just felt off. Lot's of regulars from what I can tell that visit the place, I only had a burger and some chicken fingers. It was fairly cheap so I can't complain too much.
