I love doing brewery tourism when I am in an area and greatful I found this place. I won't say they have the best beer in the area, but it is solid. Have been three times now and love every visit. The beertenders are on point and understand their beer. Friendly service and you see groups of regulars every time. Has a bit of a neighborhood bar type of vibe. Game night on Wednesdays. Live music multiple nights a week. Fairly decent across a multitude of styles. I appreciated they did a couple of nice Belgian beers, although the IPAs were also solid. Will return when visiting mom, as I really enjoyed spending time here. read more

We stopped here on our way from Orlando to AMI and had the best time! We have 3 kids and there were tons of things for them to do while we enjoyed a beer. They also give the kids juice boxes when they come in so that was so nice! The beer was good, not my absolute favorite IPAs but we still took 6b crowlers to go for our trip and they were a hit! With tons of new microbreweries popping up lately in Tampa Bay, we decided to check out one of the newer ones in the area called Southern Lights Brewing. Here are my ratings based on different criteria: Quality of food: No food is served here. I didn't see anybody eating inside so I can't tell if you're allowed to bring food in from outside or not. When it comes to beer though, the three I had were all top notch. I had the Chocolate Nut, Dunkel, and Tripel. Each of the beers hit the mark on their individual styles. Decor: okay. They had a hodge-podge of stuff on the wall from a picture showing Barbie and Ken to various beach signs. There are couple of dart boards on the wall and random stuff hanging from the ceiling. Cleanliness: good. No complaints. The tables were kept clean. Service: fast and friendly. The only way to get a beer is to go to the bar. There was just 1 employee (the bartender) present when we went. Price: typical for microbreweries. The price of the beer was either $5 or $6 depending on the gravity. This is typically what I have seen for similar breweries. When it comes to beer I would give them a 9/10. However, what's lacking is any kind of fun activities or atmosphere like live music. The location is a little bit hidden and out of the way in a shopping mall. This is a place that you'll likely go to if you're driving from work to home and want a good beer and that's about it. I can't wait to come back if they ever bring live music or games like bean bags or trivia nights. read more

Hidden but great little brewery in Clearwater. (To the left of Skyline Chili and Jet's Pizza. I like the layout and simple look inside. They have two dart machines and lots of sitting room with a spacious bar. 9 different beers to choose from and we sampled 5. I don't normally drink craft beer but I would come back and definitely have the Grain Man. Beer reviews: Grain man-smooth Sticks of fire- did not like, very bitter Drunkelstiltskin- darkness threw me off but it's light and tasty The solution- a little hard to drink, wasn't too fond of it, slightly better than sticks of fire. Not positive how to describe it, bitter as well. Chocolate nut taps porter- on this smoother side and slight hint of chocolate, I feel like it's a more feminine beer that I would drink but I think "Grain Man" still tops it read more

Music, which they also feature LIVE (check schedule) with local talent. Dart board. Hook & Ring. Pinball and electronic games, which we were told is FREE on Wednesdays! Ownership where available for conversation and happy to show us around. A Tap rail that was full of great beers, Left to Right, regardless of your preference. Recent TOP awards on display for two of their offerings, as well as the location as a whole. Snacks and food trucks when available. Plenty of parking and centrally located in Mid-Pinellas. Stopped in for a beer shortly before they closed with my husband. The owner/bartender was very friendly and fun to chat with. Had the Hefeweizen which was very good. Also had the stout which was delicious. They have a lot of IPA's which I don't love but lots of people do so sure they are tasty too. No food served here but they do have pizza next door and you can order there and bring it in. They have a popcorn machine in the corner but think it's only cooking on Trivia night/Tuesday and other busy times. I forget the beer prices but the small 4oz size was $2.50. That's about a flight sample size. The decor has a little left to be desired but it is a strip mall and you're there for the beer. They have a music box not sure if they do live music days or not. Small new brewery on Gulf to Bay heading back toward Tampa. My friend and I had done some exploring in the area and I came across this place on our way back home. It's a small brewery in a strip mall and is easy to miss if you're not watching your GPS! Plenty of seating though and super friendly staff (Ramy was super awesome as our beertender tonight)! Great beers on tap and great prices...$5 for full 16 oz pours and $2-$2.50 for 4 oz pours if you're looking to sample a few. Clean, good music and good vibes. Really awesome up and coming brewery! Ok full disclosure I know the owners because we are on competing trivia teams at another brewery. I had really high expectations because I see them talking to Tim, the brew master where we play trivia, during breaks in the game and asking for, what I can only guess, is advice. I was not disappointed. To start we went there as part of our Sunday Funday activities. Which was a great idea. It was busy but not too busy. They have a great group of regulars made up of both locals and snow birds. They have a lot of delicious beers on tap, they have a very large space, and typical brewery activities. We had great conversations with new friends while enjoying fantastic beer. I opted for a flight as always and ended up with a pint of the holiday porter. Have you even been on an insatiable quest to find the perfect beer? Yeah, me either, but if I were to start some such quest my journey would end when I crossed the threshold into Southern Lights. This brewery is tucked away into a strip-mall on Gulf to Bay, but you'd be be sorely mistaken to pass them up simply because they don't operate within a standalone building. If I'm being frank, this might very well be the best beer in the bay. While we were there we were fortunate enough to meet the brewmaster, Benton and another founder, Ramy (who tended a mean bar!) Benton explained his main inspiration is to pay homage to the style of beer he's brewing. Each of the beers we tasted was an embodiment of that inspiration. Seriously - conjure up a memory of your favorite IPA, DIPA, Saison, or Porter. Got it? Alright, well Benton made a better rendition and it's probably on tap at Southern Lights right now. Stopped in for a couple. Nice place. We enjoyed it much more than where they were before. The bar is a nice slab of wood with glittery blue throughout. They have some nice touches with "models" in the corners, a storm trooper hat, a hyena and a skully with blue hair. Ordered one and then had a flight. All of their beers were good. I enjoyed that they had several IPA on tap. The room is huge. They offer video games. We would return. It is off the beaten path but worth a stop. read more

Good place to grab a beer, located in a strip mall on Gulf to bay, you have to know it's there to stop, hard to see from the street. Walked in and they were actively brewing an ipa so the smell of hops filled the air. Had purchased an outside deal for a flight but was told that didn't work out and they were no longer honoring that and I should have received a refund. So I ordered a flight, I got the derogatory double ipa, the solution ipa, sticks of fire pale ale and the campfire smoked porter. The ipas were good but the smoked porter really stood out as my favorite. Great smoked flavor in a beer, smelled delicious as well. They have a very nice large tasting room, large bar. I do like their merchandise too, well designed. They have been open about a year and seem to keep getting better with their beer with more options each time. If you are in Clearwater, stop by and have a pint or a flight. read more

It's easy to miss Southern Lights brewing while driving down Gulf to Bay. It's on the south side of the road, across from DQ, in the same plaza as Jet's Pizza. I've seen it a few times recently and finally had the chance to stop by. They are closed Monday and Tuesday for brewing and the other weekdays they open at 3. I got there right while they were opening. There were already some other patrons ready to check it out too. The environment is very no frills, industrial type of feel. It's relatively small and could quickly get filled up on a weekend. There are a few games to play and some Sublime-esque music being played throughout the brewery. I took a seat at the bar. The bartender (owner, maybe?) was a very friendly, personable type of guy who made sure to address every one by name. That was a nice touch! The beer list is very limited for the time being. They had about 6 drafts and 3-4 wines available. They will also fill up a growler for you, but you have to bring your own in, they just fill it, but don't provide them. I tried a DIPA and a coffee stout. I'm not usually a DIPA kind of gal, but he assured me it was a smooth brew and let me sample it first. It was surprisingly smooth, so I gave it a go. Next I tried the coffee stout which was definitely right up my alley. Excellent, rich flavor. Prices are reasonable, no more than $5, which I couldn't argue with! Overall I liked it and will probably come back with friends sometime. read more

I mean it's literally right around the corner from me and I had no idea.. The place was very opened with high ceilings. Chill ambiance and my fellow Yelpers made it such a wonderful experience , what better way to meet new people than by having a beer. New brewery in Clearwater and already one of favorite. The environment is great, very nice inside seating with live music and games to keep yourself occupied as you try their wonderful variety of brews. Outside seating available with a calming vibe. The staff behind the bar some of the nicest people I've experienced. The IPAs they serve are some off the best tasting I've had. Along with the IPAs, their pilsners, stouts, and ales are also worth the try. My personal recommendation if you're into IPAs as well as willing to try for the first time would be their stratapocalypse, for dark beer drinkers their rare darkness stout leaves a wonderful Smokey after taste, and for you light beer drinkers I highly recommend their grainman which is a German Hefeweizen beer that is light and pleasant to the palate. Fantastic beer at this brewery! The citra IPA is solid and the DIPA is amazing. The Belgian Trippel "Holy Wort" is one of the best Trippel's in the Bay Area.
