The daughter being done with her Master's program at Vanderbilt was looking for a place to…read moreoffload/sell her nursing textbooks. She found McKay's online and it seemed to be the best place to do that. Wow -- we were not prepared for the massiveness of this super, super busy place! Being our first time and not knowing how it all worked, it didn't take us long to figure out where to go and what to do. There wasn't much of a line when we started. We placed her books in a bin, then waited to be called by a greeter. Our greeter quickly explained the process, gave the daughter a claim ticket, then we waited. In the 40 minutes it took for her claim number to come up on the screen, we were able to walk through most of the sections and pick out a couple things to buy. I was quite surprised to find so many things beyond books -- DVDs, VHS, vinyl records, CDs, cassette tapes, clothing, Pokémon cards, instruments, game consoles, accessories, Legos, toys, comic books, etc. It was seriously amazing. My daughter decided to take her sale in trade which gave her about 50% more to spend. For the books they didn't buy she was given the option to take them back or donate them there. She chose to donate. The husband loves old movies, art and music -- he will absolutely enjoy McKay's. I can't wait to bring him here! The parking lot is as massive, so I don't think there's ever an issue with that.

I was so excited to get back to McKay's for the first time in years. I was completely taken aback…read moreby the prices of books here now. Many books I found were overpriced for used books. There's no pricing system based on book condition, which would be nice. You may find a book in fair condition and pay the same amount for the same book in excellent condition. Customer service was great as always.

An amazing experience overall! Perfect? Not quite - but worthy of 5 stars anyway…read more The good/great: The games! Holy cow! Most of the video games are free to play during your stay. It's awesome. There's a huge selection of all the old classics (Joust, Dig Dug, Pac Man, all the Donkey Kongs, Paperboy - you name it!). Even if you play them all just once, you'll kill a lot of time. Some of the higher end games cost a token or two - that's fine by me, I get it. All the pinball games require tokens - also fine, as the tokens are fairly priced. I LOVE pinball, so I made the rounds playing all my favorites (notably Fishtails, Funhouse, and the KISS pinballs). I felt like a kid in a candy store on a shopping spree! The not so great: We ordered food and it was kinda "meh". The fried food looked and tasted like it was cooked in old, expired oil. Gross. The chicken tenders were overcooked. I hope this was a one-off. The people working there were super friendly and helpful. It's kind of located in a strange part of town, but don't let that stop you from going! Try to get there when it opens so you can have the run of the floor for a while. It can get busy!

ZERO STARS... Is what I would give if it were an option…read more The manager should NOT be in hospitality. This place does not offer friendly attitudes and customer service is non existent. We had my daughter's bday party there and at least 10 of her friends. We spent over $100 dollars in admission and around $75 in food and drinks. We then came back to bring my daughter's soccer team for an end of the season party. ....Again spending close to $200 on admissions, food and drinks. As I approached an outdoor table I was warned by the coach to watch out for the dog poop....as it turned out I was already standing in it. I approached the manager who already had a very cold and non chalant attitude the time before. He pretty much brushed me off and said they would get it picked up and just stared at me. No real concern for the fact that my shoes are now ruined and the poop is going to be tracked through the establishment, and potentially back into my car. No offer for anything complimentary or to make the situation right. I would not have gone back except my daughter's friend was in town and they really wanted to go. Against my better judgement we went back and I was banned at the door . That same manager came to the front and asked me what happened . Instead I asked him to tell me why I was banned and he said I don't know but you are not allowed back in. Read the Google Reviews...others have been banned as well with no explanation. I have nothing left to say except for two words .....Pins Mechanical....we will go there or anywhere else . It's downtown right off Demonbreun...way better range of activities including arcade games, cornhole, ping pong, ring toss, etc....and super friendly staff. Oh... and it's FREE ENTRY for kids and Adults!!!! And by the way, dog poop in a public facility violates metro codes.
