The staff is pleasant, parking plentiful, and with so many beers, you're almost certain to find something to your liking. That said, the best thing about this place has little to do with this place. Southern Brewing doesn't sell much in the way of food. However, just across the street there's a taco truck that has the BEST tacos I've ever had. And, that's coming from someone who has had lots of really good tacos. So, to accompany my Rice Lager from SB I was able to enjoy a 3-taco plate, shrimp, beef, and pork. I came here today after not having been here for many years. I used to come here for beer brewing supplies. They have completely changed the decor. Today the bar is much larger and the beer making supply section is a little smaller. We liked the atmosphere and the beer was amazing. This was our second time here and we really enjoyed it here. They have a great variety of beers. We sat at the bar and had a couple of beers each. While there we chatted with the bartender, who I believe is involved in the brewing of the beers. He was very knowledgeable about the beers and how they were made. He gave us a few different samples of some beers and we were blown away by the blonde stout. One of the beers my wife had was a plantain beer, holy crap this beer was so good, you gotta at least give it a try if they have it on tap. We enjoyed the beers and the ambiance. If you are a craft beer brewery, it is worth noting they have a homebrew supply shop right in the taproom. We will be back! read more

Southern Brewing is one of my favorite breweries in Tampa. Located just minutes from 275, this cool hangout is right off MLK, and has ample private parking. Southern is part bar, part brewery and part store. Everything you need to home-brew beer, wine, mead, kombucha, and hard cider can be found there, and friendly staff will answer all of your brewing questions. They also sell SB shirts. They don't serve food but they often host various local food trucks. The spacious bar typically plays chill music and has a couple of tv's on during the day. Saturdays are my favorite because they offer delicious wine slushies for $5, and those puppies are strong! Their outdoor patio is a lush oasis with fire pits and fans. Seems to attract all kinds of friendly people and cute doggies. There's a lack of hipster pretension from guests and staff alike, which is refreshing for a brewery in Tampa. read more

Pictures posted on here are pretty flattering, so I was expecting something a bit nicer. It's pretty run down and everything probably came from a thrift store. The inside smells of dust and is really dark. Could all use some updating. The beers we tasted were fine. The strawberry Berliner was the best one. The blueberry melomal was okay. Seems like a nice spot for neighborhood folk to hang out. You can get food from a local Mexican restaurant, which is nice! Service at the bar was nice enough. If you are looking for delicious craft beer, go here! The Not Your Snow White Stout was sooo delicious! First time trying a white stout and I was shocked how much I loved it. The dunkel was very enjoyable as well. They have a large outdoor patio area which would be great in the cooler months. We decided to sit inside since it was humid (as per usual lol). Huge outdoor area as well. They have couches as well as tables and chairs. They had a few TVs showing the Rays game. Sweet place to post up for a game. There is a 2 headed alligator statue right out in the front entrance. My husband, our little girl dog and I came to this brewery to meet a friend and her dog, who are locals. Dogs are allowed inside by the way. We came on a Wednesday, around 2 pm. It was pretty empty for the most part but around 6 pm, it was starting to get busy. My friend told me that anytime she has friends visiting from out of town, she always suggest meeting here for some good drinks and she also insisted in paying (but drinks cost between $5-$8). For my review, I am just going to review the drinks that I ended having. Please note that this place not only offers beer but hard cider and wine. Strawberry Rhubarb Wine- One of the employees offered me a tasting of this wine to see if I would like it. I didn't think it was sweet enough and so this wasn't one that I would order for myself. Blackberry Slushie- I was really hoping I would like this but didn't think it was sweet enough of me (I am the type of person who just loves dessert wines). Black Bette Blackberry Merlot- This wine was significantly sweeter than the other and ended up choosing this one to drink. I liked the sweetness of the blackberry flavors and thought it was a nice one to drink. I really wanted to try the raspberry peach sangria but unfortunately, they didn't have any available. According to the employee who was helping me, he told me I would have probably liked this one. Anyways, we ended up being here for about 4 hours (wasn't planned and it was nice catching up and letting our dogs play and get to know each other). The employees and owners never tried to kick us out (my friend and my husband did get beer throughout the time while we were here and I just stuck to my 1 glass of wine, lol). Music was playing but wasn't too loud, which is nice when I don't have to scream for the person next to me to hear what I am saying. The single toilet ladies restroom was clean for the most part. I liked that there were styrofoam cups available the drinking fountain if you wanted water, which is near the restrooms. I also like that you are able to bring you own food if you wish. There is also covered outdoor seating with toys available if you bring kids. Overall, had a pretty good experience and would definitely be a regular if I live in this area. And if you are a local, they have some great happy hour specials and also specials just for locals (lucky you). read more

I had a great time here. I went on a Saturday around 2pm for a beer. They had plenty of options and I picked a delicious IPA. S went for a Stout which he liked too. We sat outside in the blue adirondack chairs. Very casual vibe--I liked that I could hang out a while and enjoy the warm Florida temperature. I don't think I would have sat inside during the day (the outside area is huge), but the bar seemed pretty busy. They also had a Mexican food truck in the parking lot next door which looked good. Visited on the Mother's Day weekend. It also has the height market. This is new thing they have on their lot. We welcome the new ideal. The Southern Brewing has their special cup on sale that day. If fill the cup, the beer will be 50 cents cheaper on each filling. The brewery is unique in it own way. I have been here several time and not give them a review yet. I like the decoration like warehouse with brewing materials on the floor. They have dark, sour, light and hoppy beer. Price is like typical local craft beer in the area. Visited here recently for the first time, and I don't know how I ever missed this one because it's now possibly my favorite spot for craft beer in Seminole Heights. That's saying something because craft beer seems to be the sole raison d'etre of the area these days. Why do I like it here? It's super dog friendly inside and out. Inside is very spacious and relaxed with comfy couch and plenty of chairs. Outside they've created a walled garden with many Aderondak chairs and sandy beachy spots to sit and converse or chill with your dog. They had a great food truck spinning out huge looking burgers and other stuff. Now the beer menu is of course superb, as you would expect. There is also a large number of apparently house made draught wines on tap which I look forward to trying out. They also sell home brewing stuff which was faddish a few years back but has now somewhat faded as there are just so many bars available. read more

We also ordered from the Mexican food truck across the street and enjoyed the food and drinks outside on the patio. Word of warning, we almost drove off beforehand as we never saw the patio or back entrance. We parked and walked around the front and the business appeared closed. Southern Brewing & Winemaking was a splendid surprise on my recent, inaugural pilgrimage to the breweries of Tampa-St. Petersburg. Another brewery that I would frequently patronize if I lived in the area, Southern captures the ingenuity and passion American craft beer should be. I wasn't sure what to expect when I spotted the sign for Southern Brewing & Winemaking on Nebraska Ave in Seminole Heights. From the outside front entrance, it looks like any other warehouse/industrial building in the area - non-assuming, blink and you will miss it if you're driving down the street. However, it's when you enter through the back, you're welcomed to a lovely, spacious outdoor biergarten and equally spacious indoor taproom and retail homebrewing store. Half of the facility is geared towards the homebrewing supplies while the other houses the bar area and lounge. We were fortunate to chat with Kelly who is one of the owners of Southern, as we enjoyed several of the beers on their current taplist. Many of their beers were solid like their Camber Amber Red Ale, Kelly's Belgian Wit, and Heights Brown Ale. Being partial to stouts, my favorites were definitely those in that style like their Not Your Snow White Milk Stout and Barrel-Aged Moonraker American Imperial Stout were magical. Very magical. Granted, I didn't have any of the wines, since I was focused on trying their beers, but it's a spot I would return to enjoy some. Especially, when I only had 8 of the 40 beers and ciders they have at any given time on tap. Specifically, I loved their biergarten, which is awesome to sit in at night. Being that I had some cigars, I smoked one while nursing one of the beers I was nursing with glee. Doing that and lounging around one of the firepits in an Adirondack chair was quite glorious and magical. I could have spent the whole day here, and I would have been completely fine with that. While they are not a brewpub that sells food, they do have food trucks that come on-site. The Saturday we were there they had this groovy BBQ truck, where I had some brisket with my beer; it was quite glorious... and magical. By now, you probably see a pattern here. So, if you live in the area or visiting the area to try some local beers, make sure you come here to Southern. It is glorious, magical, and will change your life. read more

Wine slushies on Saturdays....that's all you need to know. This is a great place to bring a group. Lots of space inside and out. What I especially love is the real sense of community here. I feel like last night we talked to almost every person in the place! There were dogs and babies and beer and WINE SLUSHIES! This place is pretty neat. They have an amazing beer garden/outdoor area. A large selection of their own beer and a decent selection of others. I always go with something different when I am here. This time I opted for the Seminole Heights Shandy. Great choice if you're into shandy's. I mean it was the perfect beer for a Sunday brew bus adventure. The shandy was light, low alcohol and delicious. Southern is an excellent spot for any w home brewer or home wine makers they have a knowledgeable staff and I think everything you'd need. I know I can be a bit of a beer snob but it's because I love beer. If you're not a beer drinker they have a nice list of ciders, wine, nitro coffee and Kombucha. This place gets a mixed review from me. I went with my friend who is huge into home brewing (and pretty good at it may I add) to meet his other friend (another huge home brewer) and have some drinks while they shopped for their supplies. I was surprised by the size of the place, the nice outside beer garden and the great rotating selection of beers to enjoy at the small bar area. While we sat and talked with the knowledgable bar people it was interesting to see others brought in samples of their home brews to let other patrons or the bar help/employees taste and offer opinions and/or suggestions on. The tenders were also gracious to supply samples to those of us clueless on certain pours. The one thing that did turn me off was some of the help working the floor. They seemed rather ambivilant and one woman (who I was told was one of the owners-and am hoping is not true) was EXTREMELY rude and flat out lazy. When our beers ran out and the other employees were busy on the floor she simply looked at our glasses and walked away. When another gentlemen (employee) was working he accidentally dropped something , LOUDLY and shook us all, which we all laughed about except her who presented him with a prompt eye roll (must be a wife!) So although I like the place, and the beers, and the great selection of products for my friends, I can say this particular woman definitely dampened what could have been a great time (and lessened their review mark because of it) read more

Between the outdoor fireplaces with Adirondack chairs and the extensive drink list that has something for even your pickiest drinker, this place was absolutely amazing. Inside they also have a little store where you can buy anything you could ever need for home brewing. Their sense of humor is as dry as their Pinot Grigio. I like the laid back atmosphere here. Southern Brewing is a brewery and store. One half of the interior is the bar where you can buy and enjoy a variety of tasty beverages, and the other half is a store for home brewers and wine makers, with what I can only assume is everything you need to make beverages at home. the exterior patio is lovely, with lots of seating and has a covered area to protect from the elements. The brews are good, the Prickly Pear is my favorite. I tried a Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc on my last visit, and it was okay. The bubbles didnt bother me, but the wine itself was much more fruity than I like in a Sauv Blanc. They also have a popcorn machine and assorted snacks.
