IT being all the feels and vibes Danielle Vergnaud-McKinnon and Matthew McKinnon opened Sky Puppy in September of 2024 in the Historic 1888 Casa Bomberos firehouse, which was Tampa's original firehouse. Matthew brews their fantastic beers and Danielle designed Sky Puppy and runs operations. It's absolutely stunning. Historically, Ybor City is known as the Cigar Capital of the world. When the Sanchez y Haya Building in Ybor City was abandoned, thousands of bats took over! So it's known for Cigars and Bats... or.. Sky Puppies The taproom is stunning. I wasn't even close and was both pleasantly surprised and delighted at what I found inside. There is a lot to unpack here so bear with me. Bullfrog Creek Brewing is both diverse and progressive. They have a decent selection of craft beer, craft cocktails and a kitchen which was pumping out what looked like some very delicious food. The crowd was diverse for the area. The inside bar was full and outside on this occasion had live music. Outside there were kids having fun with their parents and this place is super dog friendly. Outside they have a table set up with bowls and doggy treats. The service is great here, although they have a line to take orders which slows things down a bit. They have QR codes to order as well. A b d this is maybe not a real observation, but I am thinking they are family owned because to me a lot of them looked alike. The place was relatively clean although the menus were a little sticky which was not optimal. And the best thing was although there were only 2 restrooms off to the right of the bar, they were both unisex. Unisex restrooms to in Florida to me represent progressive thinking. Finally, the beer was decent no real beer reviews this time. Maybe next time. I did try two beers a wheat watermelon beer which was mid and a hazy IPA which was decent. There were other things to try. Maybe next time.
