I wish I could remember everyone's names because I would love to give each of them the recognition they deserve. They even left a handwritten Happy Anniversary card on our table. He had a great personality, knew how to make us feel welcome, and played a huge part in making the evening memorable. And then there was the food. I've been fortunate enough to eat at a lot of really outstanding restaurants, including some in larger cities where you expect an exceptional dining experience. Southern absolutely holds its own. The quality of the food, the presentation, the service and the attention to detail were all exceptional. Everything felt intentional. It wasn't simply a great meal; it was a complete dining experience. I also remember initially being a little surprised that there was a deposit associated with the reservation, with the understanding that it wouldn't be refunded if you didn't cancel within the required window. After dining there, I completely understood why. This is an intimate restaurant with limited seating, and the level of food, preparation and service they provide requires them to make the most of every table. In fact, that's probably the best way I can describe Southern: it feels like a restaurant where every seat matters. This wasn't just a great anniversary dinner. It was one of those evenings where you leave thinking, that was special. Southern has earned a place on our short list of restaurants we will save for special occasions--and honestly, I can't wait to go back. We were seated right away on a weeknight and it was actually pretty full for being a weeknight. They have a good amount of space though. Millie was our server and she was a sweetheart. She was on it from start to finish. Checked in on us very regularly and provided above and beyond service. She contributed to our excellent experience. Fried chicken had to be ordered as it sounded so good and it definitely didn't disappoint. It comes with two sides and all of the sides were fresh. Portions were super hearty and generous. Chicken was fried to a crisp, in a good way!! The chicken sandwich was also great, but the fries are also very memorable, incredibly fresh.
