The doctors are great and very good. The administrative staff were very unhelpful and the policy for billing is outright dishonest and customer adversarial. When i went for my annual glaucoma check up I was told I had a credit balance that would cover my co-pay so they couldn't give me a receipt. I explained I need this since I use my HSA to pay for medical expenses that are out of pocket. They gave me a number for billing. When I called the billing number I was told they were 3rd party and could not help me. I asked for the internal billing and was told they could not give me the number. I called back to the clinic and explained this and was told by the rep that her manager said they will not give me the number for billing and they would send an e-mail to billing so I am stuck hoping they will get in touch with me. This is risky at best given they didn't get in touch with me about the $200 over payment I made because my insurance covered more than they thought. This is very bad that they are putting me in a situation of refusing to give me proper documentation for paying my co-pay for the IRS as well has refusing to help me process a refund for my overpayment. read more

Having been referred in years past to Southeast Eye Specialists (SEES) and having received excellent care for retinal evaluations, and cataract surgeries with lens implants, I a familiar with the superior optometrists and specialist opthalmologists at SEES. The staff are caring and thorough in guiding you through the building, explaining their billing policies and procedures along with your treatment options. The doctors are caring, and thorough in explaining their diagnoses and their recommended treatment options. Years after my cataract implants, I developed "secondary cataracts" which is not an unusual nor unexpected occurrence, as I had been counseled at SEES at the time of my cataract surgery that this might well happen. I now live 600 miles from Chattanooga, but having complete confidence in Dr. Bierly and SEES, I decided to return to have him perform the 2 minute laser procedure. Being the expert that he is, Dr. Bierly does not perform this, or most other surgeries or treatments, on both eyes on the same day. As expected, this treatment (YAG capsulotomy) went quite well, and I plan to return to SEES to have the same procedure done on my other eye. read more

My wife was for laser surgery at Eastsouth Eyes Specialist , Chattanooga TN. The waiting time was too long to eye physician for patients and waiting room for the patients was not for patients due to so many empty boxes there too. Need to pay attention for patient time and reevaluate the services for the patients. Whose 's responsibility to solve those things. read more

Southeast Eye Specialists - Optometrists Near Me - Chattanooga, Tennessee

The staff at the Chattanooga location do not understand the basics of how to bill a patient. I was told to include that I was made to sign a "good faith" record indicating my billing was an "estimate" per a phone call with "Kim" who admitted she does not work in that office and does not know their exact procedures. Depending on whether you get a letter or call your charges after being billed could magically be something different. It should be illegal to call a document "good faith" when the billing party is not acting as such given that common sense alone should be enough to determine that if a patient is following up to see if something has progressed/gotten worse some sort of picture or imaging will be needed to be taken at the time of the visit. This office uses this document as an excuse to simply not bill charges up front deliberately and then will retroactively make up a reason if the validity is questioned. If you ask for information on reporting to outside agencies they will tell you they don't know if there is any governance or oversight outside of their own internal systems which seems suspicious if not outright illegal. I do not recommend this office for these reasons if the people as rent competent enough to include the basic things you are visiting for in your bill on the front end it casts serious doubt about the competency and ethics of everyone else involved and given this is dealing with peoples vision it is incredibly alarming. read more

Had cataract surgery on both my eyes done here nice place and everyone is friendly but be prepared to wait

Love the quality of care from nurses and doctors from pre- op through post- op was exceptional! Treated me as a family member.

Southeast Eye Specialists is terrible. Do not let your loved one go there for eye care. They herd people through like cattle and do not check on their patients or return phone calls about follow up care. My father had both eyes done there for cataract surgery. There was no problem with the first eye, but he had problems with the second eye and they refused to call us back. Ultimately, we had to go to another doctor to receive follow up care. They are horrible! read more

Absolutely awful customer service. I don't have any experience with the doctors and quite frankly do not want to after speaking with a nurse over the phone regarding my health concerns. She refused to set me up for an appointment even after telling her my doctor had just prescribed a full eye exam. She insisted I go back to that doctor to ask for a basic eye exam. I told her again, I had already had one and I'm needing further testing with an optometrist. Again, refused to book me for an appointment. I called Thompson & Lett right after and they were able to get me an appointment for a full eye exam right there on the phone. If you're in health care then stop acting like you're sitting on gold. Health care officials should be more sympathetic towards those reaching out for help and help them. Stop making it so hard for those already in pain. Already suffering from weeks of migraines due to their eyes. I just wanted help. read more

Jack Bierly performed my cataract surgery nearly a year ago. I opted for the ultimate package which supposedly gave me "ADVANCED Testing & Analytics ... CUSTOM lens calculations ... Treatment of Astigmatism ... CUSTOM multifocal lenses ... LASER-ASSIST ... Reduced dependence on glasses with functional vision at ALL distances" This package came at a cost of over $7,000. My regular eye doctor was extremely critical of the results, and assured me that Bierly would be receptive to replacing the lens. I was told that there was some kind of "debris" on the capsule that needed to be lasered away, but that it couldn't be done for 90 days. I waited 90 days, had the procedure done, and at that time, I inquired what the next step would be since I saw no improvement. Bierly replied "I guess we could do a lens swap". There was no improvement at all, but NOW ... he says the lens cannot be replaced BECAUSE of the laser procedure. His "assistant" Luckson Previl explained that lens exchanges MUST be done in the first 30-60 days after the surgery. Both of these "doctors" dealt in half-truths and outright lies. After MUCH debate, they offered me a $3195 bribe to just go away. Now, I will need to be back in glasses & contact lenses for the rest of my life ... bear in mind ... I COULD have simply gotten the basic package that involved ZERO out of pocket expense, and would have left me in glasses & contact lenses. I spoke with a representative of the company and expressed my concerns, claiming that was simply not enough to cover my disappointing results. She said she would speak to the doctors and get back to me ... THAT was in late May 2022 ... so far ... NOTHING !!! There are too many reputable eye surgeons around to trust your vision with these quacks & liars. Do yourself a favor, and seek them out. read more

I am a retired Nurse Practitioner with 20+ years in the health care field. My PCP and then dermatologist referred me to them after a course of antibiotics if there was no improvement with an inflammatory open sore lump on my eyelid. My dermatologist was unsure if it was a chalazion or basal cell carcinoma. When I called I took the first available appointment in the afternoon even though I already had an appointment in the morning with my pulmonologist. Ever since I was 59, I had been struggling with cardiac and neurological problems which local specialists had referred me to Vanderbilt for workup. I had been having hypotensive episodes where my blood pressure would drop as low as 60's over 40's. I get diaphoretic (sweat profusely), nauseated, chest pain, shortness of breath, dizzy, occasional syncope (pass out and fall) and very weak. I cannot predict when I will have a spell or how long it will last. Unfortunately, I had a episode before my appointment with South East but since there was no improvement in my eyelid and my pulmonologist had already determined me a febrile (no fever), I struggled up to my appointment. The receptionist was uncomfortable with my condition and called someone who was putting people into rooms. She told me to leave and said something about COVID. I told her emphatically that it was cardiac not COVID ( just seen the pulmonologist) and she told me I needed to leave! She did not ask if I needed an ambulance (which is what I would have done), there was no human decency, no Good Samaritan act, no duty to care. She ran me off like I had leprosy without ascertaining the cause. I have never been so enraged by the heinous lack of concern in my life. I called to speak to the acting office manager but unfortunately I didn't get the name of the long, blonde or silver headed person who does not belong anywhere near the health care field, IMO. If I were a litigious person and I had an MI before I left their lobby or if they have delayed care for a carcinoma of the eyelid, I imagine an attorney could have a field day! No stars is too many! read more

During my last eye exam my eye doctor suddenly said I had cataracts and needed to have them removed. Don't cataracts take more than one year to form? So of course this diagnosis was a surprise for me, anyway they suggested Southeast Eye Specialists. Southeast Eye suggested that while removing cataracts they could correct my nearsightedness and that afterwards I would only have to use cheap readers for things closer than arms length. No more pricey eye wear! They made the surgery seem urgent and I felt rushed through the whole process due to this 'urgency.' Now a month after the surgery- my eyesight- in my opinion- is worse. For anything closer than arms length I am nearly blind, and not only that, my nearsightedness and 'floaters' remain. My eyes are now EXTREMELY sensitive to light- I can't even turn on my bedside lamp without reaching for sunglasses- and my eyeballs constantly feel bulging and sandblasted Whereas before I only needed glasses mostly to drive, now they tell me I will need to wear progressive lenses ALL OF THE TIME. So much for eliminating the cost of expensive eye wear. I think this is the worst outcome of any medical procedure I've ever had. My bad for not getting a second opinion. Please get a second opinion before you use Southeast Eye Specialists. read more
