I am a first time patient, I was impressed with the front office staff, the assistants and the doctor. Everyone was polite and helpful. I enjoyed my experience with the staff, doctor and ladies in the eyeglass center. Thanks Jackie S. read more

I had a 3:30 PM appointment on Monday August 24, 2026 and in error (my fault) I arrived 40 minutes early. After waiting for 1/2 hour I was finally seen by someone at 4:00 PM. Several tests were performed and several photographs of each eye were taken. By that time it was around 4:30 PM. After waiting for another 25 minutes or so and failing to get the attention of two or three techs who walked past the doorway of the room where I was waiting I got (fed) up, told the girl at the front desk who knew how long I'd waited that "this just isn't working for me" and walked out; no questions, no reaction, nothing. I did not receive any follow-up call either later that day or the following day and that was after I left a message on the 24th and another one on the 25th. What a waste of time and money and for that they can kiss my future business goodbye. read more

I went to see Dr. Matzkin on September 9, 2026 for a concern regarding my right eye. I had to see an optometrist over the weekend for an eye infection since my regular opthamologist, Dr. Matzkin is closed on weekends. After using drops prescribed by optometrist, I had some concerns that week so I called Allied Eye and asked to see Dr. Matzkin. They scheduled me to come same day, but after waiting to see him for two hours, he comes in and is very rude, he doesn't even let me explain my concerns or finish a sentence, he cuts me off like he doesn't have time to listen and proceeds to examine my eyes, tells me to continue the drops the optometrist prescribed for a couple more days and proceeded to walk out while I'm in the middle of asking him a question. He waves me off and walks out while I'm in mid sentence. So, basically I waited two hours for two minutes or less with him and it never accomplished a thing. I've never been treated so rudely by any medical professional, if you can call him that. I decided that day I will find another opthamologist, I will not be returning. I have not been impressed with him anyway. I've complained of blurred vision in the past and he did laser to supposedly correct problems from former cataract surgery which according to him would clear my vision but instead made it more blurry. They prescribed prescription glasses which did not help and I've explained all this to him but he seems to be indifferent or at a loss at what to do so I guess he just walks out because he doesn't know what to do or he has so many patients, he doesn't have the time to waste on a patient. He seems to think his time is valuable and yet has no regard for the waste of my time waiting for two hours for him. Maybe he needs to hire another Opthamologist since he can't seem to handle the magnitude of patients booked or maybe better yet, it's time for him to retire. read more

They wanted to reschedule my partner's appointment today as he was in the waiting room due to an unpaid bill... that just arrived in the mail. Also, prior to today... sent him to another doctor for another service and they don't even take his insurance. read more

I am not the type to leave reviews for places. But when it comes to the experience I had with Dr. Matzkin I won't be silent. He was extremely rude upon walking in to the room I was in. His greeting was "uncross your legs". His statements were unkind such as "yeah you have a very lazy eye" "I don't see prescriptions like this often" and then said something to the tech about hyperopia and walked out of the room. He didn't introduce himself. He didn't ask if I had any questions. He didn't explain my prescription to me. He exchanged maybe 20 words total with me. Im thankful for a doctor who can help me get a prescription/see but this experience was very disappointing. Especially when I'm paying him!!! read more

If you have an option to go to literally any other doctor besides Dr. Dennis Matzkin, do so for your own good. I am a nurse, and Dr. Matzkin has the worst bedside manner of any physician I have ever seen personally or even met professionally. He is unkind and repeatedly unwilling to explain my test results to me during my office visit with more than two word answers. He is always in a rush and very rude when you push him to answer questions during your 5 minute office visit, and I am always left with questions that did not get answered. In addition, I was told that my visit would cost $119 when I called and asked the day before I went. When I checked out they charged me about $250. That is a huge difference. They offer people a free gift card if you give them a good review. So keep that in mind when you are reading these and choosing which doctor to see. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!! read more

I was impressed with the wait time as a new patient to the eye clinic...they were busy and it only took an hour for my new patient eye exam. The thing that impressed me the most was that the doctor and associates researched my insurance benefits and found contacts that were 100% covered by my insurance so I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket for a year supply of new contacts. I was used to getting charged an arm and a leg at eye clinics in the past! This was a refreshing change and I felt valued as a patient. So impressed that I want my husband to experience the professional and friendly Allied Eye for himself. read more

I saw Dr Matzkin a little over 1.5 years ago for a refractive lens exchange with premium multi-focal IOL lenses(so that I would not have to wear glasses for distance or reading). Whether I had near perfect results or not I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND him to family or friends. If you want a doctor where everything is explained well and there is a willingness to entertain your questions regarding the procedure and expected results.....this is not the doctor for you. Dr. Matzkin "puts up" with your first question, but if you have a second or third....you are labeled a "worrier" or he seems to feel his knowledge is being questioned. Dr. Matzkin says he welcomes questions but his behavior says otherwise. He actually said to me "you're going to need a little hand holding " when I wanted to know when I would adjust to my new vision. Dr. Matzkin OVER sells and UNDER delivers. Dr. Matzkin's staff are not rude, but also not friendly....no one actually seems happy to be there or proud of their job. If I could do it over again, I would HAVE the procedure, BUT I WOULD NOT HAVE Dr. Matzkin do it....even if the results were perfect AND there was a million dollar giveaway included!! I dreaded all my appointments because of how I felt afterwards. I am not saying that Dr. Matzkin is not skilled or knowledgeable, I'm just saying I wouldn't go to him again. There are too many other GOOD choices for an ophthalmologist out there, and I would advise---make another choice! read more

Allied Eye deserves MORE than a 5 star review! Allied Eye deserves my testimonial, as well as my gratitude. Let me state I am a very difficult patient when it comes to my eyes. I cannot stand ANYTHING in my eyes. It is also hard to dilate my eyes due to my meds. I recently underwent cataract surgery with Dr. Dennis Matzkin at Allied Eye in Chattanooga, TN, and the results have been outstanding. Awesome in every aspect of his practice. The procedure itself was remarkably easy, thanks to the fantastic team assembled by Dr. Matzkin. From the friendly staff to the clean office environment, Allied Eye provides a top-notch experience. Dr. Matzkin's commitment to patient well-being is obvious. If you're considering eye surgery or seeking comprehensive ophthalmologic services, I highly recommend Allied Eye. Dr. Matzkin's care is truly worth it! I cannot imagine POTUS receiving better care; Thank you Allied Eye. read more

I had a great experience with my cataract surgery. Everyone was professional and knowledgeable. My surgery went great. Very happy.

I mostly agree with the nurse's assessment of Dr. Matzkin. His manners leave a lot to be desired. I accompany my husband, who has dementia, to appointments & the doctor seems to resent any & all of my questions. Maybe he has an issue with women?? At any rate, his office seems to run efficiently & the staff is pleasant. My husband's cataract surgery seems to have gone well, which is the most important thing. read more

I paid out of pocket for an eye exam. After the exam, I was told I still owed $35.00. I complained at the front staff and they stated they would "waive the contact fitting fee" told me they would take care of it. I received a bill stating I had a balance on my account. I called and spoke with Sharon, no help and not sympathetic, only to be told that it was a normal fee and that the front staff was not able to waive fees. I drove over 2 hours away to stay with them since moving from Hamilton county. In short, make people aware of the charges for everything. Do not have them prepay for the main course and then charge them add ons at the end. I have been there several times throughout the years and I am really upset regarding the quality of service and professionalism. read more

Huge fan of Dr. Matzkin but being there for 2 hrs is too much. Covid has things all screwed up but please, don't load up the schedule. There were a couple different elderly people waiting too and they are not as patient as me...Do better. read more

This Doctor is worth the wait. The reason the wait is sometimes long is because he is so thorough. If he finds an anomaly he takes TIME TO EXPLAIN it to his patients. So be happy this wonderful Dr is here in Chattanooga caring for us. read more

My first visit, so far. Place looks clean and well appointed. Everyone who I had the privilege of attending to me from the waiting room to the eyeglass fitting area seemed very efficient and very knowledgeable of their respective tasks. Dr. Matzkin is very personable, professional, highly knowledgeable, and most ept in his field of practice from what I can tell of this first short encounter. They even had a personnel who i would call traffic control, directing the flow of this busy practice. I give this a thumbs up:). read more

Dr. Matzkin and the staff were professional and helpful during our visits. The wait time was not long and our questions were addressed and answered. The follow up texts were also appreciated. read more

I had an absolutely horrible experience here. i was scheduled for a 2pm appointment and since it is a long drive to this place I left very early and arrived at 1:00. I asked if they had anything at 1:30 so I wouldn't have to wait to long and after 5 mins or so I was told there was indeed an opening. I checked in, filled out paperwork, and gave my insurance info. 1hr and a half later I asked the front desk if I was going to be seen since it was now 2. They looked annoyed and went to the back to "check". 5 mins later I was told there was an emergency and the doctor would see me next. I kept seeing people go back and coming back out and I was still sitting there at 3pm. Finally the Opthalmologist emerged with a man in scrubs and the mans wife and they were all laughing and giggling. Some emergency. At 3:45pm I was finally called back. The technician checked my prescription and asked me a few questions and then said she would "get the doctor". By that she meant- stand in the doorway and "catch him" when he came out of another room. They seemed very overbooked and unprofessional. The ophthalmologist is double certified and seems like a smart guy but I will NEVER return to just sit there and warm a seat for several hours. read more

Called and made an appointment for a consultation for Lasiks. Arrived early for my appointment for fill out all the necessary paperwork as a new patient. When I gave my completed paperwork to the receptionist, she then told me that Dr Matzkin doesn't do Lasiks on people over 40 years of age. She apologized and told me that the person who took my appointment should have told me that and that it is stated on their website. Well, they didn't or I would not have wasted two hours of drive time and not everyone explores websites, I went on reviews and the Dr's reputation in my decision. What a disappointment, that this Dr won't go the extra mile to take older patients . read more

I visited recently because I know someone who works here and she said the doctor was great for my issue. The doctor does good work, but the wait time is completely unacceptable unless you have a couple of extra hours to spare. I don't. My friend here says the staff is often on edge because office manager (Dr. Matzkin's wife) runs the office by picking on them incessantly. I feel for my friend, but I would not recommend going here unless you can't find a better option, with a more considerate wait time and a better atmosphere. (Sorry, my dear, wish I could have been more positive!) read more

Longest wait EVER! Appointment was at 2:00 wasn't seen until 4:00! Triple booked clients. Not recommend.

Been a patient since 2001. Great care. Wait time can sometimes be a little long but the care is great, I see better than I expected after my surgery in October 2001 and January 2002. A different doctor in charge now but I can't ask for better care. read more

Dr. Matzkin is extremely knowledgable. He and his staff create a friendly and inviting atmosphere. My only negative is that sometimes I have to wait close to an hour after my appointment time to be seen. read more

Dr. Matzkin is very arrogant and that may be ok to some but he's not the only ophthalmologist in town. He was extremely rude and did not treat me as a patient. The receptionist was very rude, the staff members that performed all of the test were great. It was like an assemble line, rushing patients in and out of each room just to wait to see him at the end for a few minutes. They did not even close each exam room door so that all the other patients couldn't see me do my exams. No patient privacy, what about HIPA. He did not even introduce himself. He gave me a few things to read and told me I needed to schedule surgery or I would go blind. He did not even explain why or what the test showed. This was wrong especially when all the different staff members who performed each test said everything looked good. What a twisted experience. read more

The girl at the front desk is extreamilly rude. She insinuated that I was too stupid to know how to use my phone because of I am an older gentleman. She also responded to simple questions sarcastically, which was totally uncalled for. Staff was very friendly, but they seemed confused about what test I was getting on each day. Yes, the dr. may be great. And he may be very knowledgeable of his field, but customer service and professional experience is a must in this day and time. I fell for the come back and lets see how you are in a few weeks and I went back and was walked around the office like I was robot in the assembly line. It was more than I could take. I saw 10 different people and no one was very knowledgeable of why I was there. I kept having to explain why. HELLO?? Can you look at the chart? No, they were to busy moving people in and out of rooms. DO NOT OVER BOOK! Give your patients the care and attention that the insurance company or the individual has paid for! No wonder they have to provide snacks and free coffee! It's because you will go hungry and thirst while waiting for the two second visit with the doctor. . . not necessary in Chattanooga when there is an eye doc on every corner. NOT my cup of tea! I work for a living not for fun - my time and money is very important. ALL THOUGH I did notice that many of the clients were older. . .???? Wonder if they even know better???? very disappointed. ck read more
