The issue was a cooling fan seemed like it was failing. They got me a quote put together and I picked up the computer the following day so I could get everything backed up. The plan was that I would pay for the part, they'd order it, and they'd replace it when it arrived. Until then I could lightly use the computer. My company's IT is handled out of a corporate office on the east coast. As such, then dealing with hardware issues usually isn't feasible. But with a slow turn around on ordering the new fan, they thought they could get me a computer in half the time. So, I picked it up and didn't order the part. I told them what was going on and offered to pay for the diagnostics which was declined. I get it back to the office and it's fine. No more kazoo noises, at least for now. So, they fixed my computer and refused money for doing so. The next time we have a computer hardware issue, I'll be suggesting T.S. USA Computer Repair. I can write scripts in various shell languages, develop my own email filters with procmail, and host my web pages there. All of this comes at a VERY reasonable annual or monthly price. The inevitable (but rare) service interruptions are quickly addressed by the admins, with personal communication at every step. Technical assistance is at your fingertips, and serious help is never very far away. You can get a real human being on the phone if need be during extended business hours. Service like this is hard to find. It is the opposite of the gigantic McISPs that most people have to put up with these days.
