Stopped by for a tasting as we were walking the town. Only 1 other person inside just finishing up their tasting and we were greeted very quickly. We decided on the white wine tasting. The lady working there was obviously new as you could tell she was reading a lot of the descriptions of the wines. She did very well and made us feel comfortable. It is in an old brick building which has been a variety We did a tasting of the current selections and sat out in the back area of the winery. There is a nice back patio along with an area for music. It was quite windy and almost blew the tent over. The tasting room was quite busy for the one guy behind the bar. He was doing his best to keep up. We really enjoyed the Albariño the most. A nice white wine for the spring and summer. There is also the winery cat who came out to say Hi. There is a small inside seating area to enjoy the wine. read more

My wife wanted to do a wine tasting with our soon to be daughter in law while we were in the area. They had just opened for the day and the building itself is very cool and rustic. The young lady working was very friendly and helpful as well. My wife enjoys a sweet wine and she was accommodating with the selections available. They also have a nice outdoor area that appears to be mostly shaded which works well on a hot summer day. Overall it was a good experience. read more

We found this place while we were walking on the main street in downtown Jacksonville. We walked down a nice alleyway to go in the back of the place. There is a lot of nice seating out back. We got two flights of wine and we really enjoyed the selection. The young woman who was behind the bar remembered me each time I went back in for the next tasting even though she was helping a full bar. It was quite impressive. There was a lovely Cab that we liked (I wish I remembered the name of it), and the other wines on the red flight were nice as well. We would totally go back there if it's a nice day, so we can sit outside. The seating is very limited on the inside although there was a nice cozy nook. We would definitely return!! read more

I was wondering through Jacksonville, I love all the little local stores. I decided I wanted to take a wine break and was about to drive over to a winery when I saw this place was open. Very cute little venue. The inside is put together in a very cute way. The bartender was a doll and very informative when it came to the wine and other wineries in the valley. Stopped by on our pass thru town. Out of towners with another couple traveling with a child. We walked in to be greeted by a super nice hostess. Was asked if we had reservations and told them no. Someone (I am assuming manager or owner) intervened and treated us like we were substandard. It was ridiculous. She was extremely rude and we walked out. The hostess was gracious and followed us out and suggested a different venue. They had room to serve us we we went to the suggested venue and spent LOTS of $$$. We went and watched the folk band Brothers Reed last night. The music was great. The tall guy behind the bar was very very nice. The boy that brought us food was also very nice. The wine was very good. A lot of choices which is great. The only negative was the older lady that works there was very rude and definitely knows how to MAKE you feel like your a kid again in trouble with your parents. Went in for a dinner/music event that my since passed grandmother always wanted to do. Was asked within 10 minutes if we would like to move seats to a back area. We answered no, we are fine and then asked if we would like our dinner served immediately. Sure!, we said(knowing what they were up to). It was slop polenta with some ok pulled pork and greens - 1 out of 5 at our table stated it was tolerable. Apparently, we were being too loud as we were sitting 8 ft from the musicians speaker and just trying to catch up, still listening, applauding and talking about what to tip him....We paid, walked out and will be canceling our wine club membership and never returning to this establishment. However, the waitress was perfect and sweet...They sent in a young(not our waitress) girl to deal with this "issue". we do not blame her either. This place is like walking into Cheers in a slightly hippie town - no pre-association or knowledge of the place required. Seven wines on a tasting list seems like a pretty great deal, right? The person presiding over the tastings at South Stage Cellars when we came to visit poured 15 different kinds of wines. Maybe it's because we went during the off-season. Maybe she was just enthusiastic about her job. Whatever the reason, we walked out with three bottles in our arms and a glowing view of the tiny, adorable town of Jacksonville. Really, the place is a gem, and South Stage Cellars is perhaps one of the most sparkling and luminescent facets of that gem. For such a generous selection of wines to try, the space itself looks rustic, with a shiny wooden bar and jars full of the different soils where the various wines are grown perched on the brick walls. It's quite handsome, and really, if you need a ton of opulent details to help you enjoy wine, then you're doing it wrong. The only thing I wonder about is how much one's tongue can really pick up on the differences between, say, a 2009 merlot and a 2010 pinot noir after it's already been coated with six or more other wines. We got there the minute they opened. The lady behind the bar greeted us and asked us about where we were from and what we had been doing. I guess we looked too much like tourists.. They had a preset flight of four wines- the day we went it was one white and three reds. Since I was the designated driver I was having water. The lady behind the counter asked dad what type of wines he liked to drink and he told her. At that point we were the only people in the place so she said she would tailor the flight that dad was going to drink more towards his flavor profile/preferences. Which she proceeded to do. Even opening a bottle or two that was not on the tasting list and would not be on the list. We ended up getting to taste over 10 different wines, 8 for dad, 2 for me. She talked about the vineyards (420 acres) and the different grapes and their qualities. And she can uncork a Bottle pretty darn quickly, quite impressive. Stopped in for an afternoon tasting. Small and very cozy bar and adjacent dining area. Fireplaces were nice on a cold afternoon. Enjoyed a glass of wine and a very pleasant staff encouraged us to return in a few hours to hear Jeff Kloetzel, which we did. At 6pm the place was packed with mostly friendly locals. A special dinner was being served in the dining area. A cancellation occurred and we were invited to stay but we had dinner reservations elsewhere. We were very impressed with Jeff's exceptional talent. We'll return next year and enjoy this place sitting outside in the garden setting, and get reservations for one of their dinners. read more

We have been wine tasting all over CA, and we were new to wine tasting in Southern Oregon and this place was recommended by another local winery. Pouring wine today was Larry, a very intelligent and friendly gentleman who was more than happy to share his knowledge and enthusiasm for the local wine. The tasting room is very charming and rustic with a fireplace and plenty of room for small groups. All this aside, they have a huge selection of high quality wine (reds, white and dessert wines) - I think they would have something for everyone!
