My friends really enjoyed their wine. I appreciated that the patio allows for a couple of friend groups to spread out. The food options are lighter but I heard great things about the meatballs. I enjoyed a cheese and meat platter with my sparkling water. read more

I am new to southern Oregon and I love this place for many reasons. The location - because it's right there in walkable Jacksonville. They have some amazing live music on their large and shaded patio. This is the only place where I am a club member. It's fun participating in how to enjoy wine differently, by learning about it. I used to just drink it. The people are awesome. It's that very good hometown feel you want to experience. read more

I was charged for two bottles of wine when it was two glasses of wine but the Owner Connie made it right. She was awesome.

South Stage is a great place to try a wide variety of wines. It is in an old brick building which has been a variety We did a tasting of the current selections and sat out in the back area of the winery. There is a nice back patio along with an area for music. It was quite windy and almost blew the tent over. The tasting room was quite busy for the one guy behind the bar. He was doing his best to keep up. We really enjoyed the Albariño the most. A nice white wine for the spring and summer. There is also the winery cat who came out to say Hi. There is a small inside seating area to enjoy the wine. read more

Stopped by for a tasting as we were walking the town. Only 1 other person inside just finishing up their tasting and we were greeted very quickly. We decided on the white wine tasting. The lady working there was obviously new as you could tell she was reading a lot of the descriptions of the wines. She did very well and made us feel comfortable. She engaged with us enough and also left us to be able to talk about what we liked and didn't like. Overall it was very enjoyable. read more

My wife wanted to do a wine tasting with our soon to be daughter in law while we were in the area. They had just opened for the day and the building itself is very cool and rustic. The young lady working was very friendly and helpful as well. My wife enjoys a sweet wine and she was accommodating with the selections available. They also have a nice outdoor area that appears to be mostly shaded which works well on a hot summer day. Overall it was a good experience. read more

Cozy ambiance and excellent staff. Their wines are really good, and I love being able to buy aged wine that is drinking now. Jeff was very helpful in his perspectives on the wines. Not only did I buy some bottles for dinner, but I returned and bought six bottles to ship to our home in Calif. read more

Always a perfect experience. The staff are so lovely and kind and the Wednesday $10 dinner and live music is unbeatable!! Be sure to check in on Yelp- we were able to save $$ on our wine because we did!! If you are looking for a great date night or just an excuse to get out of the house for dinner- this is a great value!! I've come here countless times and have never been dissatisfied with the food nor the entertainment. Thanks South Stage!! read more

So grateful for this local gem. We had a large group, and they were short staffed, only one woman there to handle everything and she did it perfectly. took great care of us and we had a wonderful time. It's a beautiful place and I love that they often have live music, which is so fun. Got a love South Stage! read more

Excellent Wine Bar In Downtown Historic Jacksonville SITREP This is a very good wine bar, make no mistake about that. But South Stage Cellars is also a pleasant trip down memory lane to the Old World understanding of the wine-making process. THE SETUP Right on 3rd Street, off the main drag of Jacksonville, Oregon, South Stage Cellars is centrally-located amidst the burgeoning Southern Oregon Wine Country. It has a beautiful, full, lush wooden bar that just indicates an elegant set-up: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/south-stage-cellars-jacksonville?select=3yPOYYhvs9l_TbqnHtS8Fg With Ashland and Medford also nearby, being positioned in Jacksonville puts all the products of these fabulous wineries within a stone's throw away from South Stage Cellars. It's hours ARE quite eccentric and limited - Wed-Fri, 1pm-7pm - so you'll need to fit this in when it is open: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/south-stage-cellars-jacksonville?select=JFu5nf9QsHNHDaWwiz7ISA THE TASTINGS South Stage Cellars does a great job also of pairing up cheese bites with different wine varietals. Local Rogue Cheese varietals of gorgonzola & blue cheeses get paired up quite successfully with the local wine varietals of Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay, etc. and the like. Makes for a very tasty chill afternoon! MUSEUM! Though not QUITE the museum, South Stage Cellars has some great wine-related artifacts and it does a great job through it's stewards of providing some excellent history of wine-making in general, and of the local Southern Oregon unique blends & idiosyncrasies. And who wouldn't be impressed with jars of vineyard dirt, cause I sure am! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/south-stage-cellars-jacksonville?select=mAUzxHmJ2z-8BzjX32b9Zg THE LOWDOWN Come for the wine! If you find your self walking down E.California St in Jacksonville, you will definitely want to stop by South Stage Cellars to try a Flight and appetizers with friends. The moment you step into this establishment, you feel comfortable and relaxed.Very beautiful old charm of another time period. Sit at the bar or have a seat at one of the tables, inside or out. The patio area is tranquil and shaded by trees. You cant go wrong no matter where you sit. Each week you can choose from new wines on the Flight list, and select something from the snack menu. I have ordered the cheese platter twice now, it never disappoints. There is so much, I don't need dinner after nibbling it down. It can start to get busy about 4:30 weekends, so I have found going in about 3ish, Ill get the exact spot I want to relax and enjoy my visit. read more

Not a bad wine in the 5-wine flight!! Stop here if you are in town & love wine! I had the red flight - 5 wines in total - and the youngest was 7 years old! When have you ever had a mature flight for $10?? Properly masked & socially distanced...and the menus were disposable as required (so I kept mine!). Stop here if you are in the area! We found this place while we were walking on the main street in downtown Jacksonville. We walked down a nice alleyway to go in the back of the place. There is a lot of nice seating out back. We got two flights of wine and we really enjoyed the selection. The young woman who was behind the bar remembered me each time I went back in for the next tasting even though she was helping a full bar. It was quite impressive. There was a lovely Cab that we liked (I wish I remembered the name of it), and the other wines on the red flight were nice as well. We would totally go back there if it's a nice day, so we can sit outside. The seating is very limited on the inside although there was a nice cozy nook. We would definitely return!! read more

I was wondering through Jacksonville, I love all the little local stores. I decided I wanted to take a wine break and was about to drive over to a winery when I saw this place was open. Very cute little venue. The inside is put together in a very cute way. The bartender was a doll and very informative when it came to the wine and other wineries in the valley. The porch area is where it's at though, lots of space and seating. I will definitely be coming back and will be bringing friends! read more

Stopped by on our pass thru town. Out of towners with another couple traveling with a child. We walked in to be greeted by a super nice hostess. Was asked if we had reservations and told them no. Someone (I am assuming manager or owner) intervened and treated us like we were substandard. It was ridiculous. She was extremely rude and we walked out. The hostess was gracious and followed us out and suggested a different venue. They had room to serve us we we went to the suggested venue and spent LOTS of $$$. Their loss and shame on them for treating patrons this way but kudos to the hostess. Thanks for sending us somewhere that was happy to have us! read more

We went and watched the folk band Brothers Reed last night. The music was great. The tall guy behind the bar was very very nice. The boy that brought us food was also very nice. The wine was very good. A lot of choices which is great. The only negative was the older lady that works there was very rude and definitely knows how to MAKE you feel like your a kid again in trouble with your parents. A smile goes a long ways just saying! read more

I confess I haven't visited Oregon in over 15 years, but everyone I've encountered - especially here at South Stage Cellars has been kind and charming. This place is like walking into Cheers in a slightly hippie town - no pre-association or knowledge of the place required. Lovely wine options and yummy looking cheese / appetizer options (I'm off for dinner after this, but everything that's come out of the kitchen looks and smells delicious). Definitely stop by if you're in the area - especially on Friday nights with the live music!! read more

Went in for a dinner/music event that my since passed grandmother always wanted to do. Was asked within 10 minutes if we would like to move seats to a back area. We answered no, we are fine and then asked if we would like our dinner served immediately. Sure!, we said(knowing what they were up to). It was slop polenta with some ok pulled pork and greens - 1 out of 5 at our table stated it was tolerable. Apparently, we were being too loud as we were sitting 8 ft from the musicians speaker and just trying to catch up, still listening, applauding and talking about what to tip him....We paid, walked out and will be canceling our wine club membership and never returning to this establishment. However, the waitress was perfect and sweet...They sent in a young(not our waitress) girl to deal with this "issue". we do not blame her either. We then went to other establishments very near by and were treated with much more respect and care after. read more

Seven wines on a tasting list seems like a pretty great deal, right? The person presiding over the tastings at South Stage Cellars when we came to visit poured 15 different kinds of wines. Maybe it's because we went during the off-season. Maybe she was just enthusiastic about her job. Whatever the reason, we walked out with three bottles in our arms and a glowing view of the tiny, adorable town of Jacksonville. Really, the place is a gem, and South Stage Cellars is perhaps one of the most sparkling and luminescent facets of that gem. For such a generous selection of wines to try, the space itself looks rustic, with a shiny wooden bar and jars full of the different soils where the various wines are grown perched on the brick walls. It's quite handsome, and really, if you need a ton of opulent details to help you enjoy wine, then you're doing it wrong. The only thing I wonder about is how much one's tongue can really pick up on the differences between, say, a 2009 merlot and a 2010 pinot noir after it's already been coated with six or more other wines. But hey - water exists and sometimes first world problems are the greatest kinds there are. Pinkies up! read more

This was our first wine tasting experience in Jville and Autumn went above and beyond to make it awesome! She was knowledgeable about all things wine and very personable to talk with in general. The wines offered by South Stage were all very pleasing to the palate and we ended up purchasing two bottles to take home. The ambiance of this tasting room is so warm and cozy, we will definitely be back on our next trip here! read more

Great ambience, fairly good wine. Wonderful staff! The pours on the flight of wines were SO TINY. I've done a lot of tasting in the area, and these were the smallest pours by far. Will go. But management/owners needs to step up the pours!! read more

We got there the minute they opened. The lady behind the bar greeted us and asked us about where we were from and what we had been doing. I guess we looked too much like tourists.. They had a preset flight of four wines- the day we went it was one white and three reds. Since I was the designated driver I was having water. The lady behind the counter asked dad what type of wines he liked to drink and he told her. At that point we were the only people in the place so she said she would tailor the flight that dad was going to drink more towards his flavor profile/preferences. Which she proceeded to do. Even opening a bottle or two that was not on the tasting list and would not be on the list. We ended up getting to taste over 10 different wines, 8 for dad, 2 for me. An enjoyable place to while away some time. read more

I love this place!! Dottie is amazing as a hostess and knowledgeable wine lady. We had a great conversation about reds And whites and the differences between them. She talked about the vineyards (420 acres) and the different grapes and their qualities. And she can uncork a Bottle pretty darn quickly, quite impressive. It was an enjoyable afternoon well spent in the heart of Jacksonville OR. I will return to sample again and learn more about the grapes and pairings. read more

Stopped in for an afternoon tasting. Small and very cozy bar and adjacent dining area. Fireplaces were nice on a cold afternoon. Enjoyed a glass of wine and a very pleasant staff encouraged us to return in a few hours to hear Jeff Kloetzel, which we did. At 6pm the place was packed with mostly friendly locals. A special dinner was being served in the dining area. A cancellation occurred and we were invited to stay but we had dinner reservations elsewhere. We were very impressed with Jeff's exceptional talent. We'll return next year and enjoy this place sitting outside in the garden setting, and get reservations for one of their dinners. read more

We had one if our most memorable wine tasting experiences at this fine establishment. We have been wine tasting all over CA, and we were new to wine tasting in Southern Oregon and this place was recommended by another local winery. Pouring wine today was Larry, a very intelligent and friendly gentleman who was more than happy to share his knowledge and enthusiasm for the local wine. The tasting room is very charming and rustic with a fireplace and plenty of room for small groups. All this aside, they have a huge selection of high quality wine (reds, white and dessert wines) - I think they would have something for everyone! We came back here again - same wonderful and fun experience! Every time I come to town, I will drop by here! read more
