My coworker and I came to South Place Grill recently and had a wonderful experience.
First, we sat on the 'restaurant side' as the service is supposedly better - I was definitely not disappointed. The seating was very comfortable, and there was enough space between tables that I wouldn't be worried about having conversations overheard. My coworker is gluten-free, and the wait staff happily pointed out which parts of the menu would fit the restriction, and even went to the kitchen to check on one of the items - exceptional service. The even came out with gluten-free bread without us asking. Though I didn't try it myself (I was happy with my gluten-filled break), my coworker said it was quite good.
We started with cocktails - both quite good but otherwise unremarkable. The prawns appetizer was tasty as well. I was pleasantly surprised that finger bowls were provided for us together with the prawns - this is honestly the first I've used one but I'm told that frequently one must ask for a finger bowl and just another example of great service that it was brought out immediately.
For mains, we split the half lobster and haddock - which they were nice enough to pan-grill instead of fry battered - and they were both great. The lobster portion was unfortunately a bit small but oh my did it taste great. The haddock was absolutely perfect. The chips were surprisingly bad though considering the great quality of everything else.
For dessert, we shared the flourless chocolate cake* which was super rich, and the lemon posset - light and delicate, which were surprisingly well paired with each other and both individually delicious.
Overall, with the great food and the outstanding service, I will definitely visit South Place Grill again.
