The second sporting event I attended this weekend was the Deveroes Summer League at Woodward High…read moreSchool. Each summer, the majority of Cincinnati, Xavier, Miami, Northern Kentucky, and Dayton's basketball players play in the league, as well as other current local players and sometimes past "legends." Current NBA stars David West, Jason Maxiell, James Posey and Kenyon Martin have all played in the league, so it is a great chance to see the future of the UC and Xavier programs first hand, among other things. As a die-hard Bearcat fan, I look forward to this event each summer as a way of seeing the top returning players up close, but even more so the new guys. The biggest draw for most fans is probably that opportunity to see the incoming recruits for the first time. The actual coaches aren't allowed per NCAA rules, essentially negating any defense that may be have been played. Get ready for plenty of dunks and exciting fast-break plays though. The Woodward gym is maybe two or three years old, so it's great place to watch the games, even when the top guys aren't on the court. The players walk and sit among the fans when not out playing on the court, so it is a great opportunity for young fans to score an autograph, or for the older crowd to chat among their favorite players. The quality of basketball is nothing like what you'll see during the real college basketball season, but for a $3 donation, it's more than worth it. The league will run through July 26.

The team of Director of Coaches at South Regency Tennis and Fitness Center has been excellent. The environment is super clean and professional. Our weekly tennis coach is Tom Schroeder with over 23 years of tennis experience with coaching certifications. He makes our weekly tennis clinics fun and challenging. We look forward to tennis class because of the team of coaches that are patient but most of all passionate in teaching their students. The coaches are super flexible with their hours and schedules to accommodate people who work full time. Not only do they offer clinics but they also provide multiple services such as stringing your tennis rackets or the ability to practice with a potential new tennis racket to see if the racket is the right fit for your next game. They also have great state of the art fitness facility that can fit right into your schedule. I highly recommend this place for a family membership and lessons of all ages. Check out their website and select South Regency Tennis and Fitness to improve your tennis playing skills!

Parking near the site filled up fast and they also offered shuttle buses from Crossroads church parking lot. This park is beautiful. The grounds have little lakes with water features, plenty of open well groomed spaces, and the baseball field is gorgeous. The stands look to be newer and are comfortable and ample. At the concession stand there are free hot dogs, drinks, candy, and chips. There were probably over 25 foods trucks at this particular event and you got free tickets to use as you wanted. Some vendors such as the kettle corn, or the ice cream were free without tickets. You also had to option to purchase with card or cash when you used up your free food tickets, and tipping the food trucks was encouraged so bring cash. There were bounce houses for the kids, a mini t ball type field for kid play, and even a free book mobile. The security here is pretty strict and gives a great sense of safety. Only clear bags of a certain size are allowed, check the website for details. I was impressed by how organized everything was. Patrons were mostly well behaved however some became greedy over free items towards the end of the event. I will definitely look forward to coming back for more events in the future.

I signed my son up for a kingdom team thinking this would be a good experience. It ended up far from it. To start off with I signed my son up for a fourth grade team and when the roster was put out he was placed onto a fifth/ sixth grade team. Being that it was supposed to be a rec type league I didn't put up a fuss about it. But when the schedule came out all the other teams in the league were select traveling teams. Our team had ten children assigned to it when the roster came out and dropped to five before the season started, actually went to five before practice even started. Speaking of which, the roster was put out on a Thursday with the season starting that Sunday. Also they were sending messages out the same day begging for parents to coach the team. They also do not guarantee practice time for teams that they are sponsoring. We did however manage to get a one and a half hour slot for practice per week. When I contacted them about my son and his friend the same age being placed up from their grade level I was told they didn't have enough of their age to make a team. However I found out they did have a fourth grade team but it had been filled with second and third graders. When the season started one of the parents approached them to ask if they thought it was fair to put these boys against select traveling teams their response was " there aren't any select teams in the league, they are all just teams whose parents put their kids together to make teams keep in mind the teams were named stating they were select teams. It just seems like they are only worried about getting the money and not worried about the mental well being of the children they sign up. When a team gets beat by 50 plus every game it is hard on them and kingdom doesn't seem to care after the check clears if I could give a zero star I would but seems I am forced to at least give it one
