Upon meeting Diana, she led us to their yard and told us to look through their extensive selection of remnants. To our surprise, we found a partial slab of the similar black quartz that we liked at a different store. Diana and her team of installers did a perfect job installing our new quartz countertop at a fraction of the price as other stores quoted. Julio, Rob and their team just completed our whole house for countertops. The fabrication was top notch. They did our kitchen (with multiple waterfalls and slab under the countertop (since you can see it as you descend down the stairs); along with 3.5 baths (countertops, splashes, etc). Some of the templates were very tricky (needed to ensure concentric waterfalls were centered before install). The whole job went without a hitch. Julio also got us a good discount on the slabs with his industry contacts (we needed 4 jumbo slabs to complete our kitchen alone, so that meant "real" money savings). South Bay Stone's guys were fast, clean, and the fabrication was precise. Also, they consistently answered the phone during crunch time. That is appreciated when you need to ask questions to tee things up for other trades (cabinet makers, etc) , and brainstorm on modifications to splashes. You can't ask for a more professional outfit for the execution of your kitchen or bath project. read more

She told me to make payment and then said it didn't go through when in fact it had gone through. This place could be stealing money with false charges. Be careful! Good customer service over the phone with Julio. I set up an appt. for estimate and instead of Julio coming out he sent Robby who was GREAT and very knowledgable. I found Robby to be a wealth of information and very down to earth kinda of guy :-) My problem is I'm still waiting for my estimate on the job that Robby took measurements for last week. I did get a call from them and tried to return that call twice but no luck. Any suggestions from past customers or I'm thinking maybe my job is to small. I went with them based on YELP reviews. Great place to go if you need part of a slab and don't want to pay for a whole one. They have a whole yard full of pieces. Julio Castro sold me 2/3 of a slab of Vetrazzo--recycled glass shards--that I turned into a built in desk in my she shed. They manufactured it beautifully and for a reasonable cost. We thought it was another granite store only to our surprise found out that it was a custom stone fabricator. They have some granite on site which is available for purchase. Man, these guys at South Bay Stone are on top of their game! Luckily my neighbor is an interior designer and works closely with the Owner Julio, who is awesome! Julio gave me a great deal on a marble countertop for my bathroom (not only beat a very popular home improvement chain store with the initials HD, but even got it done in half the time as the other company projected!). The marble is beautiful, it's called Statuarietto or Statuary and is similar to white Carrara, but with a lot of nice gray veining, which seems pretty hard to find. Robbie came to measure one day, and two other very nice and professional employees (Flaco and another young man) came to install today. The countertop looks amazing, they mounted the sink, and kept the area very clean! I will definitely be working with South Bay Stone for the rest of my counter top and tiling needs for life!! We wanted to do a face lift to our 1990 circa kitchen. The kitchen counters and splash were ceramic tile and over time (we used to have a large extended family in the house), the grout keeps coming off, some tiles are a little scratched and the cabinets looked beat up. We considered various options - Granite transformation (which would lay a thin sheet of manufactured granite over the existing counter top which we thought was nuts), counter tops of Granite and quartz and we finally decided to go with a Cambria quartz because quartz requires very little maintenance and Cambria has some neat designs. Couple of granite shops we talked to would fabricate counter tops but they would not install. and also they would not do the back splash We wanted to have some one to do the whole thing - fabrication of counter top, installation, and back splash also. We did not know who to call but luckily one lady at Classic tile designs in Hermosa Beach gave us a few contractor names who would do all of the things we wanted and South Bay Stone happened to be the first one on the list.. We called Julio at South bay stone and he came over to our house in Manhattan Beach on the same day, looked at the project, and within a day or so sent us a quote. He also told us that they did work on several houses in our neighborhood and one of the houses happen to be almost across the street from our house. We checked with the owners and they said that South Bay stone did a good job in their kitchen and they are trustworthy. So we did not even bother to check with any other contractors on the list, and entered into a contract with South bay stone. Julio was very prompt, responds to phone calls, texts, emails right away and when we visited their shop, he made us feel very comfortable and assuring. As it happened we had to wait for 2 months for Cambria to make our block because the design we selected was very popular and out of stock and it takes several weeks for them to make the block. Luckily we were not in any kind of rush and it actually gave us time to shop around for the back splash because I and my wife have different tastes and we get into yelling matches about every thing. Also we had to order a stainless steel sink, and a fancy sink faucet. After visiting several tile shops in south bay and Anaheim, we agreed on some grey glass tiles for the back splash and some borders to match with the counter top design. Every time we would call Julio about his opinion, and he patiently discussed the good and bad of the materials and the aesthetic aspect of the combinations etc. After the block came and the fabrication was done, we have to wait for a few more weeks due to some family issues and finally the day came, and a whole contingent of workers descended on our house to do the counter top installation. I was a little apprehensive when I saw all those people to do a relatively modest kitchen but they knew what they were doing. In two days, they demolished the old tiles, plywood, back splash and laid the new counter top and back splash. And they did a super good job. They had to join the counter top and the joint was so perfect, you really had to see with a magnifying glass to find the joint. The back splash turned out really neat. the border was a difficult one because the design called for the border to be separated from the main splash by a thin strip of another border. Julio was very easy to work with and Robbie was amazing. He came over prior to the fabrication, took the measurements again, discussed every small detail, expressed his concerns about the edges and we could not be happier with the way things turned out in the end. Ours is a modest old house among the multi million dollar mansions in Manhattan Beach, but our kitchen counter top is our pride now. We would show it off to our guests and most of them would say 'wow'. I highly recommend South Bay stone for your counter top work. Talk to Julio!! read more

I am one of the owners of Cabinet Happy. I tell all of my customers to get their stone tops here. Julio is super easy to work with and very professional. The best part of South Bay Stone is that Robbie, the shop manager, makes the templates onsite so he oversees the project from start to finish. Other shops have a "sales guy" make the templates and the templates just get handed off to the shop which often times mistakes are discovered on the day of the install. That will not happen with South Bay Stone. Robbie will also call me after hours to discuss things that are on his mind to make the fabrication or install better. This tells me he is super passionate about his job and strives for perfection. The installation crew is always friendly and helpful. I just can't believe why people sometimes go with another fabricator just to save a $100-$200 and then have stressful installation headaches to deal with. South Bay Stone's prices are good, definitely not on the expensive side, but there seems to be bozos who undercut them by a hundred or two that often times do a bad job. It kills me to see a customer go through that. I don't know what else I can say to convince you that these guys are awesome and to just go with them. We found this company on yelp, and gave them a try solely because they had great reviews. In the beginning, everything was seemingly going as planned. Julio came out and took measurements and offered to pick up the materials for us. We had tile put down on the bathroom floor and a backsplash added to the kitchen. We even had him go to the model home to take notes of the backsplash in their kitchen. We ordered the materials based on the measurements that he gave us and proceeded to do business with them. First mistake, measurements were all WRONG!! the crew unwrapped every single package of the backsplash 36 in total (for 35 sq feet that Julio told us) and they only needed approx. 26 sq ft worth of material. $180 of wasted material just sitting in the garage and we cant even return it!! As I went to check on the progress, I noticed that they had chopped up the drywall in the window sill. I asked why they did that, and they said because they were putting the backsplash there too. Wait a minute....who puts backsplash directly in the sill?? And we still needed shutters installed. Guess what...another $180 for a handyman to re stucco (because they weren't going to do it) & $490 to order another shutter. Next, we needed to buy MORE tile for the bathroom because there wasn't enough. After the job was completed they then tell us, oh you have to go get longer screws for the electrical plates to fit over the backsplash; ok fine we'll make another trip back to home depot. And after all that, they were on their way out the door, and my husband says "what about the toilet?" The toilet was removed by THEM to place the tile....but what they failed to mention was that they could NOT put the toilet back. We had to call a plumber ourselves, another $115. My husband even called Julio to see if they could fix the damage in the window; his response: No we're not going to fix it. You can just get someone in here to repair it for you!!! REALLY????!!! Ultimately this experience was a complete hot mess. Our neighbors were looking for a reference for tile work.......needless to say it wont be them!!!!! read more

My GC used South Bay Stone as a sub for a master bath remodel. Despite me telling Jorge and the installer that the mosaic to be used on the shower floor should be installed so that the pattern was perpendicular to the length of the shower pan, they installed it so that the pattern ran parallel. I and my GC asked that the floor and wall tiles be installed with a butt joint since I wanted a clean, modern look. The installer said that a true butt joint wasn't feasible since the edges of the tile weren't perfectly straight (but what tile or stone is?). So we said as close as possible. The installation was a standard 1/8" spacing so there are large, visible grout lines. Finally, the shower pan threshold was supposed to be low and narrow. The GC had built up the threshold so that it was about 1 1/2" high and 4" wide. For some unknown reason that no one could explain, the SB Stone installer built up the threshold so that it was several inches high and 8" wide. That I requested be removed and redone so that the threshold was closer to 1 1/2" x 4". This was not a rush job. Several days that the tile guys were supposed to show up, no one showed, or they showed up hours later than promised, only one person showed, and they worked for only a couple of hours. What should have been max a 4 day job lasted 2 weeks. read more

I lucked out when I found South Bay Stone through Yelp, so I am returning the favor. Julio was extremely helpful and attentive to us. He helped us pick out the perfect marble slab for our bathrooms and also got the exact, giant quartz slab we wanted for our kitchen so we wouldn't have any seams on our L shaped section. The fabrication and installation were flawless. Robbie was an expert at templating our counters and gave me some extremely valuable tips on a couple of changes to the cabinets before installation. We were so happy with the countertops that we followed up with our backsplash, and his guys did a perfect job on that too! And to top it off he did everything exactly on schedule! read more

Julio handled everything by phone which at first was a little off-putting but that aside he always returned my phone calls the same day and was patient with all my questions. Robbie came to do the template. He also was wonderful and knew his job inside and out. He saw things that I never would have noticed. For example, my counters sloped to one side.
