I was looking for fine line tattoo artists in the area on yelp and after looking through his instagram, decided his art style was in line with what I wanted. Day of, I brought my boyfriend to keep me company. Pretty easy to find, lots of parking, Ian's studio is in the back corner of the salon. He showed me the sketch and then we discussed placement and size. He printed out a few sizes to give me an idea. Ian got to work right away and I didn't feel any pain, just very light pressure. The process was pretty uneventful, Ian is very professional. Afterwards, he gave me some aftercare instructions and sent me on my way. A year later, my tattoo still looks great. Would definitely return if I decided to get another tattoo in the future.

It was only until I saw my cousin's portrait tattoo that I knew I found my tattoo artist at Da Wei Tattoo. There are a lot of skilled tattoo artists and then there is Da Wei. There aren't enough words to describe how talented Da Wei is. He is a unique tattoo artist; he is a creator. I appreciate how passionate Da Wei is with his work. Da Wei is not intimidating or pretentious at all, despite having so many tattoo awards! He is friendly and personable. I feel like I'm at home at his tattoo shop. As his guest, I'm a co-creator instead of another customer. Da Wei helps me translate my vision into real-life through beautiful and intricate artwork. He always goes above and beyond to research and curate and present the perfect tattoo. I love peeking inside his office to see what concepts he is working with and what he's creating next. As a creator, Da Wei is light on his fingers. He is gentle, careful, and considerate. He always makes sure that I feel comfortable and that I'm confident with his work before, during, and after my tattoo sessions. Da Wei is also communicative and transparent. Each session is like another consultation. He will let me know if something will or won't work. He also makes suggestions, but is neither pushy about it. I never regretted any of his suggestions; that's how much I trust him! Da Wei chose the perfect placement for my tattoo where I can appreciate and admire it. I love the details of each individual lily. Each lily has its own characteristics and beauty. The colors are also vibrant and compliments not only my complexion, but my personality. I had a hard time searching for a tattoo artist because flower tattoos were considered too basic. It's true; flowers are simple. Anyone can tattoo a flower, but it takes a special kind of artist like Da Wei to turn something common into something classic. The most skilled chefs are the ones who've mastered the foundational sauces. I know that my tattoo is one-of-a-kind because Da Wei created it with his vision, my vision, and personality in mind. Da Wei Tattoo is not a one stop tattoo shop, it is a gallery of lifetime artwork. You'll know what I'm talking about once you visit the shop.

When I had my 200$ non refundable consultation with Paco, we agreed that I wanted a full sleeve and…read moretalked about what I wanted. I told him I wanted a Alex Grey sort of feeling, and Paco looked at me like I slashed one his paintings and asked "so you want a Alex Grey tattoo?". Sorry I didn't explain the type of imagery with another artist I didn't even know about, also sorry I didn't know you don't like Alex Grey. Anyway, we have some back and forth on the image and agree to start on just a half sleeve, but taking the same amount of sessions... weird I know, plus it only covers the outside of my arm (not finished). It's not worth nearly 4k I spent, if you ask me. Every time I went in I felt like I was over charged and under worked and treated like some a** hole who didn't deserve Paco's valuable time. Unplanned sessions kept getting added on and very little work actually got done the 6 hours I was usually there. Maybe I shouldn't have told someone who's in charge of handing out sobriety tokens (Paco), that I use psychedelics, but maybe I shouldn't feel like I have to be sensitive to a tattoo artists lifestyle options. Dude is a primadonna, who really doesn't care about you (unless you are vigilant at making him feel special, and right). Needless to say I felt like Paco and his wife hustled me out of a lot of my hard earned money for a tattoo that's sub 275$/hr, and gives me bad feelings every time I think about it. Would not recommend to anyone.

You could go to any one of the myriad of tattoo shops in the Bay Area, pick a piece of flash off…read morethe wall, plop down $50-$100, sit your ass in the chair for an hour or less and walk out with color in your skin. But for a work of art, as beautiful as a painting in a museum, uniquely yours, and unlike any other tattoo you've ever seen, Graven Image, and Paco in particular, is the place/artist to go to. Yes, you will pay a premium price. Yes, you might have to wait for an appointment. Yes, the process takes time and usually multiple sittings. But you will end up with the highest quality work that can be found in any shop, anywhere. And the shop is clean, friendly, helpful and all those things you'd expect from a quality establishment. I searched long and hard for an artist that could do the type of work that Paco does. I would never let anyone else tattoo me again, ever. When people see his work on my body they almost can't believe it's actually a tattoo and not something that has been painted on. it's that beautiful. I highly recommend this shop and the people that work there.
