However, after my first appointment was canceled, I came in for my rescheduled visit and left feeling pretty discouraged. The staff explained the risks thoroughly, but it came across less like informed consent and more like they simply didn't want to perform the piercing. I was told things like they had already turned down several people for this type of piercing, that I only had about a 30% chance of success, that it's very hard to be eligible, and that I could be left with a large mark on my abdomen. For a navel piercing--which is very common--that felt excessive and discouraging. What added to the confusion was being told that I had "the perfect anatomy" for it, yet all the guidance seemed aimed at convincing me not to go forward the more and more the conversation went the scarier it got. I was also asked to find jewelry elsewhere and come back because their gauges were too large if I still wanted the piercing done. In the end, I went to another shop and had the piercing done without issue. I can't fully recommend this place, but I also can't completely dismiss them--the experience just left a sour taste. Hopefully, fewer people walk away feeling turned down or discouraged at a shop that offers piercings..

Paco is an artist first and foremost, and he is possessed of the most creative imagination I've ever witnessed. When you add to this his encyclopedic technical knowledge of tattooing and visual theory, you end up with a better tattoo than anyone else. Unless that person has been to Paco too. I should also mention the fact that he's an immensely interesting guy with great taste in music. His wife Lindsay, who runs the studio, is a great person who manages appointments and keeps the show running slick and hygienic so we as clients can get as much tattoo time as possible. Unplanned sessions kept getting added on and very little work actually got done the 6 hours I was usually there. Maybe I shouldn't have told someone who's in charge of handing out sobriety tokens (Paco), that I use psychedelics, but maybe I shouldn't feel like I have to be sensitive to a tattoo artists lifestyle options. Dude is a primadonna, who really doesn't care about you (unless you are vigilant at making him feel special, and right). Needless to say I felt like Paco and his wife hustled me out of a lot of my hard earned money for a tattoo that's sub 275$/hr, and gives me bad feelings every time I think about it. I was looking for fine line tattoo artists in the area on yelp and after looking through his instagram, decided his art style was in line with what I wanted. Day of, I brought my boyfriend to keep me company. Pretty easy to find, lots of parking, Ian's studio is in the back corner of the salon. He showed me the sketch and then we discussed placement and size. He printed out a few sizes to give me an idea. Ian got to work right away and I didn't feel any pain, just very light pressure. The process was pretty uneventful, Ian is very professional. Afterwards, he gave me some aftercare instructions and sent me on my way. A year later, my tattoo still looks great.
