Dining at Soule Chicago is more than a meal--it's an experience. Beautiful ambiance, soulful flavors, and a space that invites you to slow down and enjoy every bite. Soule Chicago really got it right--great energy, amazing staff, and soul food that delivers every time.

I've been to this place twice, once for happy hour and another time for dinner. The food was amazing and the drinks were perfect! The staff was super friendly and the DJ made for a great atmosphere. I'm planning to go back.

Yes, it's good! Okay, now that we got that out of the way, here are the deets... Food: We went for a happy hour special which included $1 whole jerked and/or fried wings, $6 Lemon Drops, and half off apps. When I say everything was good, everything was GOOD! We had jerk and fried wings, catfish sliders, creamy garlic shrimp, lamb chops, and fried green tomatoes. Delicious. May be a bit salty for some, but was perfect for us. Service: Prompt, friendly, efficient Ambiance: Beautiful decor, clean, welcoming Note: Yes, area is sketchy, but GO ANYWAY. Totally worth it, I will return.

Our server Mya was AWESOME

Soulé has great service! From the lovely cute hostess to the great , funny personality of our server Mya. One of my favorite things was the awesome music they played! Throwback R&B hits from Michael Jackson to Prince to Patty LaBelle and Jennifer Holiday.. you will be singing your heart out! It's played low enough where you can still have a great conversation. The BBQ Party Wings dipped in Hennessy was pretty good. Served in a small skillet you get'em piping hot. The seafood gumbo was good just a bit too salty. The fried catfish is their signature I think, it was good, just nothing special. Red beans & rice was tasty, but the greens were too spicy for me, I DO NOT like anything spicy. The banana pudding tasted like it came from a can, it was "ok" just not special. I heard the fried chicken was absolutely delicious, but I didn't try it. All in all, I would definitely come back and order something light, like the wings, because I definitely loved the vibe and the great service.

Lamb Chops, Dirty Rice and Green Beans
Christine B.

This rating is an average of 3 because of the inconsistency of the service, food and beverages. The ambiance is pretty swanky, laced with gold accents and modern furnishings. It's a cute spot and would be nice for a private event or birthday party. The food and non-alcoholic beverages left a lot to be desired. The consensus from our party of 8 was that the non-alcoholic beverages were overly sugary and lacked flavor. Regarding the food, our entrees were inconsistent. The best sides were the dirty rice, green beans, collard greens and the wings. We would not recommend the macaroni and cheese at all. It had lots of pepper but no cheese. In addition, lots of us ordered lamb chops, requested to be cooked medium. All the lamb chops were made well done. Even asking to be remade medium, they still came out well done. We were very disappointed. I will say that the best part of our experience is the service we received from our hostess and server Linda, which was top-tier. She was attentive, accommodating, hospitable and friendly. I would not recommend this restaurant, however I hope that they can take the feedback provided and made some necessary changes.

Catfish Plate with two sides

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. On this occasion, we didn't have reservation which I think is heavily recommended as I could see how busy this places stays. The takeouts section was booming with people picking up their food to go. We were lucky to come between the 2pm and 345pm reservation block and they happen to have a table. We were grateful for their accommodation. Our server was Linda. Very nice young lady who was attentive and could discuss the ins and outs of the menu. The menu has a range of items but catfish tugged at our hearts because it isn't something that I make that often. My husband and I both opted to get the fried catfish plate which came with two sides. I got yams and macaroni and cheese. He got the greens and macaroni and cheese. No complaints on the food at all. The catfish was plump and fried to perfection. The seasoning was just right. Yams were sweet but good. Greens were seasoned well also and very tender but not falling apart. All in all, we enjoyed our meal. Now I will say that the music is louder than all getup. Music was good but someone with sensitive ears or wanting to talk a bunch, may not be the venue for you. For dessert we grabbed the banana pudding and the warm pound cake with ice cream. Pound case was soft, dense and full of yummy butter. That dessert was delicious. Banana pudding was okay. I don't like imitation banana so that was a let down. Next time I will try the peach cobbler. The owner needs to take a bow because her staff are professional, nice and prompt with getting our food out. It was nice seeing younger young men working hard and learning good business acumen.

Fried Chicken (Dark Meat), Mac and Cheese, and Cream Corn

Out of town visitors who wanted some good Soul food. Jason the hostess managed to sit us promptly while making wheelchair accommodations. The food is great and the overall ambiance is excellent. Looking around you can see everyone enjoying their night

Catfish, grits, greens and yams are a go to off you don't have time or feel like making a home-cooked soul food dinner. Jerk wings were good. Nice flavor and good size asparagus. This was a delivery

I came here with my bestie for happy hour offering! We very pleased with the offering once we clarified and got a different more knowledge waitstaff ! The restaurant is quite large and had a dj that night!

Decent enough! The food was good, the service at the time was not the greatest. My friend I went with had a good experience with service other times though so may have just been a one off! Good drinks

Fried chicken with Mac n cheese and red beans and rice.

The sides were delicious. The lamb chops got high high praise from the table, but the chicken was quite dry, despite being dark meat. The service was good, and the interior of the restaurant is beautiful and creates a perfect vibe to eat.

This is a great soulful restaurant. The menu had so many good choices that it was difficult to finally decide. Linda was our server, and she took good care of us. Food is seasoned and cooked well. My only request is that they turn the music down a tad during brunch.

I had only been to the initial location on Chicago Ave and I'm happy to report the new Soulé location is just as good! There's ample free street parking. I absolutely love the decor, color scheme etc Greeted by the hostess who graciously made seating changes for my party and took our group photo. I had the shrimp and grits (drools), 3 friends had the catfish with sides and they loved it. Another friend had the hennesy wings and another the salmon and shrimp over mashed potatoes. The food was a 10/10! Attentive server and ample space inside as well. Didn't feel crowded at all and the music wasn't too loud either. Drinks were also reasonably priced and well made. Will definitely return.

Are people having to show their vaccination cards here? Just curious

Yes, it's required in any Cook County restaurant

Drink menu? Or plan on BYOB per the $10 cork fee? TIA. Editing to mean boozy drinks, ha! We will BYOB!

It should be on the bottom of their menu online. It's mostly pop and lemonade. Special shout out to the homemade lemonade. It's BYOB with a cork fee which we also did. They were pretty helpful so $10 was well spent!

Are they doin done in now?

They were not doing dine in when I went on July 3rd.

Do they have a parking lot?

No street parking is available.

Do they allow BYOB? What is the corkage fee?

Yes they allow BYOB and the corkage fee is $10.

Today, I took three guests, and we decided to eat family-style, and ordered most of the offerings! Fried chicken - 5 stars; one of the few place where a big chicken breast is always tender and juicy. I also get if smothered in the pork chop gravy which is like bacon (makes everything even better). Smothered pork chops - 5 stars BBQ ribs - 4 stars; this is a certain style of "BBQ" you often find in cafes and diners Ham hocks - 4 stars; lightly smokey, tender, juicy, sticky, slimey, gooey tendons, decadent fat, and succulent fat! Makes the perfect bite with the sweet potatoes. Greens - 5 stars; perfectly salty, hammy, and NOT overcooked! Cabbage - 5 stars; I don't like stewe or cooked cabbage; butnI really enjoyed THIS cabbage. Corn - 4 stars; it's corn Sweet potatoes- 5 stars; one of my favorites! Mac and cheese - 5 stars, can't stop eating this! Spaghetti - 2 stars (like beef-a-roni), my kids would LOVE this, but not really my style. Think high-school cafeteria spaghetti taken up a notch. Try Mac's! You won't regret it! And did I mention that the portions are huge! Sticks-to-your-ribs food.

We arrived and the parking lot was full but I squeezed into a street spot. The line was too the door but they were moving pretty fast. The decor is outdated but that's not what you come for. Loved the history reflected with the photos of customers including former President Obama, current Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson. The photos of Jesse Jackson before and after his health deteriorated shows the legacy of this community bedrock. There's also a spot to donate books. This place has changed so have realistic expectations. It is cafeteria style (to go) but you can sit down and eat from your styrofoam container. First the online menu was wrong. We were told that they don't have fish on Sundays. Honestly if I knew that beforehand I wouldn't have gone that day. I decided to get fried chicken, greens and dressing with a side of mac and cheese. The chicken was dry, the greens were a lil salty and the dressing was dry but tasty. I wish i had gotten the gravy on the side. The macaroni and cheese was yummy. My guy got the short ribs, greens and string beans. Like the greens the short ribs were a lil salty. The ribs were cooked to perfection. The meat fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. Overall, I would say try it for yourself. If you like things on the salty side this might be ideal. The meals come with a muffin. It was sweet and so soft that it fell apart in your hands. Please note that individual sides are $3.04 with tax which isn't too bad. You also only get one muffin nit two like the website says. I plan to return on a fish day but it probably won't be soon. I'm optimistic that they will make some changes and update the website.

My first time coming here and I was impressed with the food. They allow you to sample the food to see if you like it. Which is a bonus to sample before you make your decision to purchase. I ordered the fish fillets which was very delicious and well seasoned Golden crispy and fried well. My sides were the cabbage and beef spaghetti. The cabbage was well seasoned as well. It was very cozy, not a lot of space and nowhere to dine in, so expect to take the meal to go. Cashier was pleasant and friendly. Everything I wanted was sold out at 5 pm. I settled for the smothered pork chops, Mac and cheese and dressing. Food is packed right in front of you and they are very generous with the portions. My "plate" (styrofoam container) was so heavy it cracked! I was given a second bag to catch spillage. I commented that this would be dinner and probably lunch tomorrow. The cashier and serving gentleman chuckled and agreed. I saw the passion tea and ordered that also. Now, the taste. The pork chops are delicious. Gravy is good, meat is tender and not too salty. They're good size chops, I didn't finish one. Max and cheese is very cheesy. Well seasoned and noodles are firm and not mushy. The dressing is not it for me. It's a little "mealy" and not much flavor. I can taste the sage but it feels undercooked to me. The cornbread muffin is okay. Not as sweet as jiffy mix, but too sweet to be hot water cornbread. I will return and try some other sides. Prayerfully next time they'll have the turkey wings or fried ribs I wanted to try. However the gravy from the pork chops on some mashed potatoes would be heavenly.

For years, I had passed by the Holiday Inn Express near the main downtown post office and thought…read morenothing of any restaurant being in that location. Only recently did I think of any kind of eatery there after a friend had mentioned Fork Fantasy. I stopped in one Saturday just as they opened. There was just the bartender who was working the front of the house. She informed me that I could sit wherever I pleased and followed me to my seat with a menu. Since I was meeting a friend there, I had a whiskey sour while I waited. I found out that the bartender made the sour using lemon and simple syrup. I kept wondering why the cocktail tasted way better than any sour that I had drunk before. For our meal, we started with the soul muffins. These were miniature cornbread dressing muffins topped with turkey, greens, cranberry sauce, and gravy. This was nothing short of Thanksgiving on a platter. One thing I will note about this dish is that it could have been hot coming to the table. The other appetizer was the skewered bourbon chicken. Served over yellow and green bell pepper slices with purple onions, the colors screamed Mardi Gras, and the flavor screamed, "Eat me!" We wiped both plates clean. The entrees were truth serum. My friend had ordered the Cajun salmon with greens and string beans. She was silently into the dish until there was mention of possibly trying dessert. The silence was all I needed to know that she was enjoying all of what she ordered. As to me, the mustard fried catfish with greens and Cajun rice was a dish I would have devoured in one setting, but I had to set some aside for later so that I wouldn't have regrets about eating everything like it was my last supper. The finale was peach cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This was a real peach cobbler. There was no attempt with biscuits. There was no compote from a can. There was proper juice, homemade crust, and peaches that did not taste like they had been drowned in sugar. The bowl was not so large that there was a struggle to finish it all either. It was just blooming delicious. The food was outstanding. The service was top, and this may very well be because the restaurant was not crowded. It was certainly an enjoyable experience for my friend and me. I definitely have to get back at some point in the near future. Their good cooking deserves and encore.
