Food: We went for a happy hour special which included $1 whole jerked and/or fried wings, $6 Lemon Drops, and half off apps. When I say everything was good, everything was GOOD! It's a cute spot and would be nice for a private event or birthday party. The food and non-alcoholic beverages left a lot to be desired. The consensus from our party of 8 was that the non-alcoholic beverages were overly sugary and lacked flavor. Regarding the food, our entrees were inconsistent. The best sides were the dirty rice, green beans, collard greens and the wings. We would not recommend the macaroni and cheese at all. It had lots of pepper but no cheese. In addition, lots of us ordered lamb chops, requested to be cooked medium. All the lamb chops were made well done. Even asking to be remade medium, they still came out well done. We were very disappointed. I will say that the best part of our experience is the service we received from our hostess and server Linda, which was top-tier. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. On this occasion, we didn't have reservation which I think is heavily recommended as I could see how busy this places stays. The takeouts section was booming with people picking up their food to go. We were lucky to come between the 2pm and 345pm reservation block and they happen to have a table. We were grateful for their accommodation. Our server was Linda. Very nice young lady who was attentive and could discuss the ins and outs of the menu. The menu has a range of items but catfish tugged at our hearts because it isn't something that I make that often. My husband and I both opted to get the fried catfish plate which came with two sides. I got yams and macaroni and cheese. He got the greens and macaroni and cheese. No complaints on the food at all. The catfish was plump and fried to perfection. The seasoning was just right. Yams were sweet but good. Greens were seasoned well also and very tender but not falling apart. All in all, we enjoyed our meal. Now I will say that the music is louder than all getup. Music was good but someone with sensitive ears or wanting to talk a bunch, may not be the venue for you. For dessert we grabbed the banana pudding and the warm pound cake with ice cream. Pound case was soft, dense and full of yummy butter. That dessert was delicious. Banana pudding was okay. I don't like imitation banana so that was a let down. Next time I will try the peach cobbler. The owner needs to take a bow because her staff are professional, nice and prompt with getting our food out. I had only been to the initial location on Chicago Ave and I'm happy to report the new Soulé location is just as good! There's ample free street parking. I absolutely love the decor, color scheme etc Greeted by the hostess who graciously made seating changes for my party and took our group photo. I had the shrimp and grits (drools), 3 friends had the catfish with sides and they loved it. Another friend had the hennesy wings and another the salmon and shrimp over mashed potatoes. Staff was friendly but there was no one working it seemed or regulars at bar it was friend time. Menu seemed good but after getting all's of catfish slider, salmon bites and fried green tomatoes. Flavors all the same. Literally same breading sauce and toppings. I think I understand why but seemed a bit lazy when different sauces could have amped up the experience. The fried catfish looked good but had some slim on it when tasting so had to peel that off but the sides of sweet potatoes, greens and Mac and cheese were good. Went for happy hour April 1st 2026. Very clean, and welcoming environment. Pretty decent drink selection as well as food choices. We had the peach lemon drop and a regular lemon drop both were made to perfection. I ordered the Hennessy wings they were ok but not good enough to order again. I also had the creamy garlic shrimp and they were very heavy on the salt. My hubby had the jerk wings which he stated tasted like they were baked jerk and not grilled (the menu does not specify) but he said they were ok. We also ordered the macaroni and it lacked flavor and cheese. The waitress was nice and swapped out the macaroni and cheese for the chicken spaghetti and you could tell that it was premade and warmed in the microwave absolutely terrible. I was a bit disappointed by the food as I have heard so many good things about this place. I'll give this review in hopes that the business will tighten up because it is very nicely decorated, and the food was not bad at all. I visited the restaurant on Sunday and the hostess was a middle-age lady who never left the hostess stand . so she told us to take a seat in the waiting area. when the table was ready she waved her hand from the hostess station and summoned for us to come this way. once we got to the host station she pointed across the restaurant to our table. I was expecting at least for her to walk us to the table or have any of the many bus boys stand by the table where we were supposed to go. The food itself was good, so no complaints . We did not get cornbread unfortunately so I asked a random staff walking by if he could get us some, he never came back. I flagged the server down and asked her if we could get cornbread and she said the cornbread was not cooked all the way so I don't wanna give that to you. She then walked away. Our server was a nice young lady who was pregnant so I gave her grace, but we never got our waters/drinks refilled and the only time she checked on us was when we were finished and it was time for her to give us the bill. Even though it wasn't the best experience in terms of service, I still normally tip. But having an automatic gratuity included for a table of four seems a bit much. This may just be my perspective since it seems that establishments are just adding automatic gratuities for the heck of it. But if I think about Soule, I would have loved better customer service to match the beautiful decor and good food. read more

Was treated to a Fathers Day dinner by my kids and wife. Wow I am so happy they picked this place. The food was amazing...mostly. The jerk wings were a killer. You only get 4 whole wings but they are tender, full of flavor. The garlic shrimp appetizer is another outstanding appetizer. So much creamy and garlic flavor with bread to soak up the amazing sauce. Mostly cocktails and spirits. No wine . Cocktails were really well done. Not shiny with the good stuff. The entrees were also outstanding. The honey fried chicken was among the top 3 fried chickens I've eaten. Perfectly cooked and moist and tender meat. crispy skin and lightly battered. OMG. I had the dirty rice and way overcooked asparagus. Couldn't eat the asparagus. others had the catfish that looked fabulous and shrimp. They both got good reviews. The mac n cheese were average. They were out of the fried green tomatoes. The food overall was 4.5 stars. Definitely would return for the food. The service was needy. The front of the room needs training on how to attend to guest. No one panned the room when they came in. We had to actually go up to the host to ask him to send our server over. They were pleasant but needed training. On a trip to Chicago we were looking to get some good soul food, but this wasn't it. I had the salmon and shrimp jerk pasta, on the menu it came fried but they weren't frying salmon anymore, which I was honestly happy about. So they grilled both the salmon & shrimp, however there was no balance of the jerk seasoning they put into the pasta and it didn't taste all that good. Funny enough my friend ordered the jerk lamb chop pasta, and she didn't have any jerk seasoning in hers, making it too bland. I also got a drink called the whew chileee, not good at all, it tasted like a random mix of things. My friends complained about the catfish tasting too fishy and the fried chicken was just basic. Over-hyped and underwhelming! Service is 2 stars, food is 3. Music too loud to talk with your party. Waitress checked in once halfway through the meal. Table was not completely clean. Had to request water refills. The fettuccine noodles were broken down the size of macaroni noodles. The temperature of the noodles was not hot. They are heavy on the jerk sauce which drowns out any other flavor. On the note of flavor, the fried salmon it's paired with was lackluster. Salmon was poorly cut in that there were lots of bones. The shrimp was basic, not fresh, basically frozen. My date rated her meal a 3, she had mash potatoes with spinach and salmon. There was literally only 1 leaf of spinach bc they said it's mixed in the sauce. This dish was drenched in jerk sauce, even poured on the mash potatoes. The only fish that's on the menu is catfish and salmon. Menu lacks options. The tea light candles on the table were not lit although they dimmed the lights during my dinner. The door to enter the restaurant requires the patron to manage, my hat flew off in the wind because one hand held my leftovers and my other hand had to self close the door, I really started to leave it swinging open...get a doorman!! Finally! I have experienced Soulé Chicago! I first heard about this restaurant about 5 years ago, but it was news about the West Town location on 1931 W. Chicago Avenue. All good news, except the lack of parking, which kept me from venturing out to taste the great soul food from this boutique restaurant. In late October 2022, the owner, Bridgette Flagg, opened a second location in North Lawndale. To celebrate my mom's birthday, I took a 1/2 day PTO, and made an afternoon reservation. First of all, because it was a weekday afternoon, there was plenty of parking and available tables. The patrons ahead of me had made reservations too. The interior design is welcoming, spacious and has a very sleek vibe. All the food was very delicious and with nice size portions. We got the BBQ Jerk Chicken Wings, Fried Green Tomatoes, Honey Drizzled Fried Chicken, Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens, and Sweet Potatoes. There were only two things that were disappointing and that could just be because of my own preferences. First, there was the non-alcoholic version of the Soulé Punch. I asked the server what was it made of, and they specifically told me that it was the mixture of the lemonade, fruit punch, and sweet tea. Well, when I tasted it, I swear I was drinking weak strawberry kool-aid. There was no "umph" to the drink... no ginger beer added, no frozen fruit - nothing to make you think, "this great drink is matching my great meal I'm smacking on!" Second, I took home a dessert, because I was full. I asked for the Warm Butter Pound Cake with Rum Drizzle. Normally, if I was to have eaten this in the restaurant, I would have added the scoop of vanilla ice cream that comes with, but I opted out. However, when I got home, the slice I received was so small. Thankfully, I had checked my receipt and learned that I hadn't been charge at all, which it's normally $11 - thank God! But let me tell you, that slice that I did have - I enjoyed every single crumb! This restaurant is a shiny bright light for the North Lawndale community. I placed an online order for 3pm. after arriving, I was told I would have to wait an additional 15 minutes as they were not filling online orders at the time. when I asked for my money back, miraculously I received the food within 5 minutes. now I did receive complimentary desserts for the wait and I appreciate that. but when I got home and checked my order it was a chicken salad when I ordered a salmon salad these are two different proteins, that have two way different prices. I am a pescatarian which means I only eat fish or seafood. I am literally stuck with food I will not be eating I've reached out by phone to speak with someone but or course, no answer. Definitely go and make sure you make a reservation in advance. We were in town for the weekend and knew this was a place we wanted to go. I woke up Saturday morning and was able to snag us the last reservation they had for that day. It was our first time and we loved it! The ascetics and music were perfection. We even jokingly talked about how we wish we had whatever playlist they had playing because it had us dancing in our chairs while eating our food. The staff was helpful and nice.
