    Our server Mya was AWESOME
    Marcia T.

Soulé has great service! From the lovely cute hostess to the great , funny personality of our server Mya. One of my favorite things was the awesome music they played! Throwback R&B hits from Michael Jackson to Prince to Patty LaBelle and Jennifer Holiday.. you will be singing your heart out! It's played low enough where you can still have a great conversation. The BBQ Party Wings dipped in Hennessy was pretty good. Served in a small skillet you get'em piping hot. The seafood gumbo was good just a bit too salty. The fried catfish is their signature I think, it was good, just nothing special. Red beans & rice was tasty, but the greens were too spicy for me, I DO NOT like anything spicy. The banana pudding tasted like it came from a can, it was "ok" just not special. I heard the fried chicken was absolutely delicious, but I didn't try it. All in all, I would definitely come back and order something light, like the wings, because I definitely loved the vibe and the great service.

Lamb Chops, Dirty Rice and Green Beans

This rating is an average of 3 because of the inconsistency of the service, food and beverages. The ambiance is pretty swanky, laced with gold accents and modern furnishings. It's a cute spot and would be nice for a private event or birthday party. The food and non-alcoholic beverages left a lot to be desired. The consensus from our party of 8 was that the non-alcoholic beverages were overly sugary and lacked flavor. Regarding the food, our entrees were inconsistent. The best sides were the dirty rice, green beans, collard greens and the wings. We would not recommend the macaroni and cheese at all. It had lots of pepper but no cheese. In addition, lots of us ordered lamb chops, requested to be cooked medium. All the lamb chops were made well done. Even asking to be remade medium, they still came out well done. We were very disappointed. I will say that the best part of our experience is the service we received from our hostess and server Linda, which was top-tier. She was attentive, accommodating, hospitable and friendly. I would not recommend this restaurant, however I hope that they can take the feedback provided and made some necessary changes.

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. On this occasion, we didn't have reservation which I think is heavily recommended as I could see how busy this places stays. The takeouts section was booming with people picking up their food to go. We were lucky to come between the 2pm and 345pm reservation block and they happen to have a table. We were grateful for their accommodation. Our server was Linda. Very nice young lady who was attentive and could discuss the ins and outs of the menu. The menu has a range of items but catfish tugged at our hearts because it isn't something that I make that often. My husband and I both opted to get the fried catfish plate which came with two sides. I got yams and macaroni and cheese. He got the greens and macaroni and cheese. No complaints on the food at all. The catfish was plump and fried to perfection. The seasoning was just right. Yams were sweet but good. Greens were seasoned well also and very tender but not falling apart. All in all, we enjoyed our meal. Now I will say that the music is louder than all getup. Music was good but someone with sensitive ears or wanting to talk a bunch, may not be the venue for you. For dessert we grabbed the banana pudding and the warm pound cake with ice cream. Pound case was soft, dense and full of yummy butter. That dessert was delicious. Banana pudding was okay. I don't like imitation banana so that was a let down. Next time I will try the peach cobbler. The owner needs to take a bow because her staff are professional, nice and prompt with getting our food out. It was nice seeing younger young men working hard and learning good business acumen.

The sides were delicious. The lamb chops got high high praise from the table, but the chicken was quite dry, despite being dark meat. The service was good, and the interior of the restaurant is beautiful and creates a perfect vibe to eat.

I came here with my bestie for happy hour offering! We very pleased with the offering once we clarified and got a different more knowledge waitstaff ! The restaurant is quite large and had a dj that night!

Decent enough! The food was good, the service at the time was not the greatest. My friend I went with had a good experience with service other times though so may have just been a one off! Good drinks

This is a great soulful restaurant. The menu had so many good choices that it was difficult to finally decide. Linda was our server, and she took good care of us. Food is seasoned and cooked well. My only request is that they turn the music down a tad during brunch.

I had only been to the initial location on Chicago Ave and I'm happy to report the new Soulé location is just as good! There's ample free street parking. I absolutely love the decor, color scheme etc Greeted by the hostess who graciously made seating changes for my party and took our group photo. I had the shrimp and grits (drools), 3 friends had the catfish with sides and they loved it. Another friend had the hennesy wings and another the salmon and shrimp over mashed potatoes. The food was a 10/10! Attentive server and ample space inside as well. Didn't feel crowded at all and the music wasn't too loud either. Drinks were also reasonably priced and well made. Will definitely return.

Went here start of Chicago trip and saw mixed reviews online but love soul food so much still wanted to try. Restaurant space was super nice and inviting music was loud but was nice. Staff was friendly but there was no one working it seemed or regulars at bar it was friend time. Menu seemed good but after getting all's of catfish slider, salmon bites and fried green tomatoes. Flavors all the same. Literally same breading sauce and toppings. I think I understand why but seemed a bit lazy when different sauces could have amped up the experience. The fried catfish looked good but had some slim on it when tasting so had to peel that off but the sides of sweet potatoes, greens and Mac and cheese were good. The honey dipped fried chicken was crispy but honey dipped it just had honey topped on it. Not was I was expecting so a bit disappointed.

    Keisha J.

Yasss! That sounds like a whole vibe! Catfish and grits already set the bar, but when the sauce makes you say "OMG", you know it was next-level! And a Lemon Drop that did the job? That means it was strong, smooth, and just the right amount of sweet.

Went for happy hour April 1st 2026. Very clean, and welcoming environment. Pretty decent drink selection as well as food choices. We had the peach lemon drop and a regular lemon drop both were made to perfection. I ordered the Hennessy wings they were ok but not good enough to order again. I also had the creamy garlic shrimp and they were very heavy on the salt. My hubby had the jerk wings which he stated tasted like they were baked jerk and not grilled (the menu does not specify) but he said they were ok. We also ordered the macaroni and it lacked flavor and cheese. The waitress was nice and swapped out the macaroni and cheese for the chicken spaghetti and you could tell that it was premade and warmed in the microwave absolutely terrible. I was a bit disappointed by the food as I have heard so many good things about this place. Their drinks were amazing so I would go back for the drinks and maybe try some other menu items in hopes of better results.

HONEY DRIZZLED FRIED CHICKEN / MAC N CHEESE / ASPARAGUS
    Joe W.

I had the pleasure of checking this place out the aesthetic is a vibe. If you're not into listening to loud music while you eat then you shouldn't go on Thursday's , any other day of the week it's a normal restaurant. The honey chicken was really good. The Mac n cheese had a good flavor but I wish it was more cheesy. I wouldn't recommend getting the asparagus as a side, it wasn't good at all. The catfish is really good and the cream corn was as well. The service was ok , had to wait a bit before the waiter came to take my order. After she came the first time she was on it so it wasn't all bad. I would go back to this place but definitely not on a Thursday!

Was treated to a Fathers Day dinner by my kids and wife. Wow I am so happy they picked this place. The food was amazing...mostly. The jerk wings were a killer. You only get 4 whole wings but they are tender, full of flavor. The garlic shrimp appetizer is another outstanding appetizer. So much creamy and garlic flavor with bread to soak up the amazing sauce. Mostly cocktails and spirits. No wine . Cocktails were really well done. Not shiny with the good stuff. The entrees were also outstanding. The honey fried chicken was among the top 3 fried chickens I've eaten. Perfectly cooked and moist and tender meat. crispy skin and lightly battered. OMG. I had the dirty rice and way overcooked asparagus. Couldn't eat the asparagus. others had the catfish that looked fabulous and shrimp. They both got good reviews. The mac n cheese were average. They were out of the fried green tomatoes. The food overall was 4.5 stars. Definitely would return for the food. The service was needy. The front of the room needs training on how to attend to guest. No one panned the room when they came in. We had to actually go up to the host to ask him to send our server over. They were pleasant but needed training. Also the music was so loud we had to shout to talk. We asked them to turn it down and they didn't. So maybe 3 stars for the front end.

It should be on the bottom of their menu online. It's mostly pop and lemonade. Special shout out to the homemade lemonade. It's BYOB with a cork fee which we also did. They were pretty helpful so $10 was well spent!

Are they doin done in now?

They were not doing dine in when I went on July 3rd.

Do they have a parking lot?

    No street parking is available.

Do they allow BYOB? What is the corkage fee?

The ambiance wasn't quite what I expected, but the service and food made up for it. I ordered the Caribbean stuffed turkey leg, which came with pasta, spinach, a couple of jumbo shrimp, and a turkey drumstick. The dish was flavorful and satisfying overall. My only criticisms were that the spinach was chopped so finely that it was hard to really taste it, and the turkey drumstick seemed smaller than expected. I was hoping for a meatier drumstick, but most of the meat was concentrated toward the bottom of the bone. For dessert, I had a slice of carrot cake, and it was excellent. I would have loved for it to be served warm, but it was still moist, flavorful, and a great way to end the meal. I also tried the fried pound cake, and unfortunately, it was a miss for me. It didn't taste like pound cake, and honestly, it wasn't a very good cake in general. It's not something I would order again. One thing I noticed is that the menu doesn't appear to offer appetizers or salads, which might be something to consider if you're looking for more variety before your main course. Overall, I enjoyed my visit. While there were a few things that could be improved, the stuffed turkey and carrot cake were enjoyable, and I'd be willing to come back and try something else on the menu.

Please note that individual sides are $3.04 with tax which isn't too bad. You also only get one muffin nit two like the website says. I plan to return on a fish day but it probably won't be soon. The sides were perfect, which again I say they deserve high marks. The highlight dish for me was the Cajun pasta that I ordered with shrimp. This reminded me of the same that I enjoyed in Louisiana. There was the right amount of sauce so that the pasta was not drowning in it. The seasoning was neither salty nor overpowering nor all over the place. We tried the hot honey, chicken sandwich, waffle, fries, mac & cheese, and the chicken tenders with the corn muffin. OK, first of all, the mac & cheese is outstanding?? Genuinely so flavorful and had that great crispy cheese char on top- loved it. I would go back just for that. The cornbread??? I don't know what they are putting on top of that, but they are absolutely drenching it in some insanely good honey?? I could swim in it and I want it again The chicken tenders were super flavorful and very well seasoned. Everything here is really well seasoned OK you can tell that this isn't made by white people lol. The meat was really tender, and the outside was crispy. I didn't have the sandwich, but it looked tasty and very spicy. The waffle fries were fine, but honestly a skip. Overall, really glad I tried it! I can see why people love it and I'm excited to check out the Lakeview location!

A craving for fish led me to ordering from Chicago's Home of Chicken & Waffles online via Uber Eats…read moredelivery. At the time, the restaurant was listed high as I searched for southern food nearest to me. Also, its 4.3 star rating out of 7000+ was the assurance I needed that I would receive quality food. Looking through the menu, the pescatarian in me was drawn to mario's catfish sandwich which comes as either southern fried or grilled farm raised, with the option of either fries or potato salad. I ended up ordering the sandwich in the form of southern fried, with potato salad as my side order. It took twenty-five minutes from the time my order was acknowledged by Uber Eats to the arrival of it at the hospital I work out of. Much praise to the Uber Eats delivery driver, Walter for making that happen at that reasonable time, as well as meeting me at the main entrance of our hospital where I waved confirming that I saw him. And Walter confirmed that it was me grabbing the order, which I cannot thank him so much for. I loved the potato salad! Seeing it seasoned made me curious of its taste which ended up being far from a disappointment; It was by far the best potato salad I have ever had, and that is not exaggeration. Now what I found interesting about mario's catfish sandwich was that it was placed on a hamburger bun rather than a sub-style bun. Even with it on a hamburger bun it was nicely presented inside of a styrofoam container. It was lightly seasoned, topped with lettuce, onion, and tomato! I further added tartar sauce to give it the taste that I love. I really enjoyed mario's catfish sandwich and would consider ordering it again. Being that I had a good ordering experience, I would surely order from Chicago's Home of Chicken & Waffles again whether it be Uber Eats delivery or takeout. For years, I had passed by the Holiday Inn Express near the main downtown post office and thought…read morenothing of any restaurant being in that location. Only recently did I think of any kind of eatery there after a friend had mentioned Fork Fantasy. I stopped in one Saturday just as they opened. There was just the bartender who was working the front of the house. She informed me that I could sit wherever I pleased and followed me to my seat with a menu. Since I was meeting a friend there, I had a whiskey sour while I waited. I found out that the bartender made the sour using lemon and simple syrup. I kept wondering why the cocktail tasted way better than any sour that I had drunk before. For our meal, we started with the soul muffins. These were miniature cornbread dressing muffins topped with turkey, greens, cranberry sauce, and gravy. This was nothing short of Thanksgiving on a platter. One thing I will note about this dish is that it could have been hot coming to the table. The other appetizer was the skewered bourbon chicken. Served over yellow and green bell pepper slices with purple onions, the colors screamed Mardi Gras, and the flavor screamed, "Eat me!" We wiped both plates clean. The entrees were truth serum. My friend had ordered the Cajun salmon with greens and string beans. She was silently into the dish until there was mention of possibly trying dessert. The silence was all I needed to know that she was enjoying all of what she ordered. As to me, the mustard fried catfish with greens and Cajun rice was a dish I would have devoured in one setting, but I had to set some aside for later so that I wouldn't have regrets about eating everything like it was my last supper. The finale was peach cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This was a real peach cobbler. There was no attempt with biscuits. There was no compote from a can. There was proper juice, homemade crust, and peaches that did not taste like they had been drowned in sugar. The bowl was not so large that there was a struggle to finish it all either. It was just blooming delicious. The food was outstanding. The service was top, and this may very well be because the restaurant was not crowded. It was certainly an enjoyable experience for my friend and me. I definitely have to get back at some point in the near future. Their good cooking deserves and encore.
