Fish tacos
Jim B.

Stopped in for lunch on Thursday 3/31/22. The wife and I ordered the fish tacos and the chicken tacos. The cod was freshly battered and fried with slaw and onions in a corn shell, while the chicken tacos had a sweet/ smoky bbq sauce. Both came with refried beans covered in shredded cheese and had good flavor, better than most Mexican restaurants. Will be going back to have some traditional bbq next. Pics included.

A little confusion with this restaurant. My MIL suggested this place because of the variety that they used to have. Apparently, everything has changed. Soulcial Kitchen used to have a variety of food trucks and the food was kind of related to the kitchen inside but, we were told that things are entirely separate. Macro's Express is the menu on the inside of the building. $5 sangria's were advertised coming in and while these were cheap, they were incredibly light for the amount of sangria given... I'd understood if it was a cocktail with liquor but a red wine sangria? I'd expect more. The food was overall delicious but my MIL said her spaghetti and meatballs had "crispy" spaghetti pieces around the outside of her plate that were not appetizing. I'm assuming the plate is placed in the oven to melt the cheese. Okay sangrias. Decent food. Okay service.

This place is so much fun! The indoor dining area is very nice, almost a little fancy. Outside you can sit at a picnic table under an umbrella- somewhere for everyone! Today we are inside for lunch. We had a salad which was a very nice portion size and the ranch was amazing! The he sandwich had nice, thick slices of meat and tasted wonderful. Our waitress was very nice and took excellent care of us.

Veggie Burger & Mexican Street Corn

I heard about this place a few times and finally was able to try! My friends and I came in around 11:45, and there were plenty of tables. Upon walking in, we were greeted by an extremely friendly and attentive person who I believed to be the manager :) He was running around taking care of various things yet was still able to continuously check on our table. Our food came out in less than 10 or 15 minutes, and it was fresh, warm, and flavorful! The veggie burger was not what I expected, but in a good way. It was pretty much a large, raw mushroom with their tomato jam and arugula! It was delicious while at the same time I didn't feel too guilty since the ingredients weren't fried or greasy. I subbed the tots for the street corn which was another mix of flavors on its own. I was extremely satisfied with Soulcial Kitchen and will be back!

A wall of words

My friend and I went to Soulcial for the first time, yesterday. There were maybe 3 or 4 tables when we arrived. The atmosphere is quiet and soothing. We both ordered hamburgers--my friend requested no bun but extra lettuce and pickles and potato salad as the side. I had the standard burger with their tater tots as a side. Neither of us really planned on eating the tater tots but they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We finished them up in a jiffy. The server was great. She handled take out as well as the customer in the restaurant. There was hot water in the bathroom--something I always check. (If there is no hot water in the BR for me, then there is none for the employees returning to work). All and all, we really enjoyed our visit. We will go, again.

This is a great concept kitchen!!! They currently have TWO trucks, with plans for more! 10/10 on the taco truck and the BBQ truck so far and I AM SO EXCITED for what is to come! Back to the taco truck, CREMA SAUCE! Cover me in it and I will eat my own arm!

Plus for a special treat swing by on a Sunday and enjoy one of the best cafe singers ever! We didn't catch her name but she was really good and we enjoyed our meal and coffee while listening to her sing. This is a very cute downtown coffee shop. That was very impressive! I ordered a peppermint bark & oat milk iced latte and she started that while I continued to look over the menu. Music was playing oldies -- The Temptations, The Dells, etc., which was a chill vibe. I then ordered a half order of biscuits and gravy as I am always on the search for the best b's & g's. Latte was handed to me quickly at the counter and my food was brought to me within 2 mins of sitting down. The latte was quite sweet, I didn't taste much of the espresso, which isn't my preference. I really am kind of biased though as a former barista myself, ;) However, I know next time to remember to ask for less syrup, if I order again. The b's & g's are very fresh -- the biscuits were warm and tender; the gravy is more of a brown gravy and not your classic white gravy. It was thick, with chunks of sausage, flavorful, with herbs on top. It was not that salty which I noticed right away as I am very particular about that. I appreciated that a lot! I don't think I would order these again, solely based on liking white country gravy better. But very flavorful and for someone else, worth a try! And they were served in a Togo container which is cool, in case I wanted to take it with me. The cafe itself is immaculately clean & that included the beautifully wallpapered bathroom. The tables are all clean and they all have pretty little real mums in cups, I love that simple touch - so cozy. One walls is covered with photography pieces for sale and as I photographer, I love to see the support for us and our work! Definitely super cool. As a NYC native, this cafe felt more urban-esque, while sitting in downtown small town Belleville and really such an, "at home" type vibe -- really though, shout out to the barista who really stands out in treating you like family. They live up to their sign, inside, "Welcome to the family." That's valuable! Overall, I'm super impressed with the service and I'll definitely come back to try another drink and more food. Definitely worth it! I recommend, Justitia's! Thanks for having me. :)

Finally had a chance to visit Nettie B's. This small unassuming place I was told had great food…read more The actual restaurant space was anti-climatic. It was a big open space with a couple tables on one side and the chefs counter on the other side. In the corner was a lady greeting people who would take your order. There were no menus, the lady said the restaurant was transitioning to fish and seafood only and the menus were not completed but she could name off what was available. She did and I decided to go for the Salmon po boy with fries. I almost fell over when she said $17 and some change. OMG! Po boy usually taps out at $14.99 at the most, unless it is lobster. So already the bar was raised because a $17 po boy better be damn good. While waiting at one of the tables, the lady brought over my tableware for dine in. A plastic cup with plasticware and packets of condiments. I get it, COVID, but for a $17 sandwich with fries, I was expecting the dine in experience to be a little better. My food is ready and the chefs did a nice job of presenting it well in a styrofoam box for takeout, even tho I planned to dine in. So, moral of this story is that the food all comes in a takeout box. Including their pricey seafood boils. I know seafood is expensive, but if I am going to drop $30 for a takeout order, I'm expecting something better than just a styrofoam container you would put fried chicken in, what do you think? I enjoyed the salmon po boy, it was good, but not $17 good. Fries were hot and fresh, so I am giving this 4 stars because the food was good, the ambiance just wasn't. The price point is too high for me, but if you live in Illinois and want a seafood boil this is the place for you! I guess.

Husband, myself, and one of the kids joined me for dinner here. I was excited to try this place out…read moresince it reopened. ( I never had the chance to try when it was originally open) They were busy! Which I did expect as downtown belleville had a few things going on. They were so busy that sadly they were out of meatloaf and limited on some hoagie type Sandwich. I ordered the pub burger with the garlic mashed potatoes. The burger itself wasn't bad a little too salty than I'm use to. I swore I asked the waitress for the garnishes to be put on the side but they had it all on the burger. ( no big deal) the garlic mashed potatoes was a staple according to a guest that was talking to us as they left. They were good. Mine came out a little on the almost past the Luke warm stage ( I was a little bummed on that). Our oldest ordered the bone in wings buffalo flavor as a meal ( it's an appetizer) she said those were good. We also shared their French onion dip with chips. Husband had the same pub burger but he got his with steak fries. He wast thrilled that he couldn't order the burger in rare form. He too thought the burger itself was a little on the saltier aside. The prices seemed a little steep on some of the menu. ( expected on steaks and fish) I had to give them a bit of grace with all the chaos going on. Our server was kind and attentive. They didn't have much options for the festive drinks. I ordered their thin mint martini. I'd love to give them another shot in the future when it's less chaotic and they have food we want available. I will say th bar itself is cute. Reminds me of cheers. They had their front area setup with fire pits/heat lamps and tables to enjoy some hot chocolate that was only $3 for reg but if you wanted to "boozie" it up it would depend on the alcohol. They had cookies out from The cookie stroll that they offered for free. Then had a nice set up for those interested in making s'mores! Charlie's is located within historic downtown Belleville on the corner of Abend. There is only street side parking available. Keep in mind they do have breakfast or brunch too on weekends.

I've been to this place a few different times. On special occasions like St. Patrick's day and on…read moreregular crazy Saturday mornings. We've met with friends here a few times. Everything is often very fresh. If you enjoy very sugary coffee then this place is for you. Hence the name, I'm sure. I've never had a coffee that wasn't overly sweet even when asking for little sweetness. All the food is very good. You can tell the bakery and the made to order food is deliciously made with love! The only thing about this place is the customer service is hit or miss. That's why one star is lost. The man that's working there is always very kind, helpful and welcoming. Most of the young girls that work there are also kind and helpful. But there's a worker there, when I see her I'm automatically nervous and want to make sure I have no extra questions or requests. It's an older lady (possibly an owner or manager). Every interaction with her is often unpleasant, and I'm always made to feel like such an inconvenience for being there. Not sure if it's just my face she doesn't like, or if I just happen to come in on her bad days. This place is cute and great for by yourself mornings or a small group coming together for brunch! It's got yummy food, seating inside and outside. Once your passed the ordering it's a great place to be! EDIT: After receiving the comment from the owner, I'm coming to edit the review. For clearly being verified in the way I was treated. To say "you would NEVER make anyone feel that way" is no longer true because you have made someone feel that way, myself and others in my groups. Ultimately, I did not drag the business and I even came back multiple times before writing the review. I'm sorry, I hurt someone's feelings by being so specific but it truly was the ONLY issue I had with this business. I was truly only trying to give my constructive feedback as an honest reviewer and customer. As a business owner I'm sure it's hard to receive feedback sometimes but, I wasn't looking for anything back, and I still always tipped. I simply was giving feedback so it can be acknowledged and be made better.
