I just had my first visit from Soul Maids, and it will be the last. I was told there was a three hour minimum and it would cost $70. So reasonable right? Nope. Lovinia arrived at 12pm and I showed her where all the cleaning stuff was, offered her a drink and said to grab me if there were any questions. By 1:50pm she had abruptly left saying she was finished. I was working from home that day so smiled and waved goodbye. Ten minutes later I went to look. I'd heard the vacuum, but there were still crumbs visibly on the wooden floor. There was a smear of honey on the kitchen counters - if they'd been wiped I don't know how it was still there. Nothing had been dusted. I'd left clean linens on the bed, but it wasn't even made, never mind the sheets changed. From what I can tell she vacuumed a small patch of floor and took out the trash. Miranda sent a text at 3pm to find out if it went well, I directed to the email I'd already sent. Later that night she offered a $20 refund and to send another cleaner. No thanks! I once had a cleaner from Handy who was crazy stoned, and he did a better job! read more

Can't rate on the actual cleaning, because no one ever showed up. I had an appointment on a Wednesday at 1 with Yvette, and arranged to work from home that day. 1:15 rolls around and no Yvette. I texted to see what was up, and Soul Maids told me she couldn't get there until 2:30. It was unclear whether anyone would have given me notice of this if I hadn't reached out. That time didn't work for me, so we rescheduled for the next day at 10 a.m. Yvette texted me that night to ask if she could come at 11 instead. I told her OK, but that was the absolute latest I could have her come with my schedule. She promised she would be on time. The next day at 10:30 she texts and says she can't make it until 1. So two days in a row I schedule my life around appointments that weren't fulfilled. I might have been willing to overlook that, but Soul Maids didn't much care about how much they inconvenienced me. I would have expected a business owner to be more concerned about her employees not showing up. I will say it was easy and fast to schedule by text, but that doesn't mean much if you don't ever get the service. read more

She had a horrendous time scheduling us (literarily, the maid came a week early despite the clear dates in the emails) and then, when finally we got the dates sorted out, they maid when to st. mark' s AVE in brooklyn despite the clear instructions for st. mark's PLACE in manhattan. i'm sure these ladies are great cleaners, but they are too brainless to run a business. read more

We've been using Soul Maids now for about 4 month, and although we had a rough start we're now very happy with the service. We contacted Miranda with the hope that we'd be able to find a consistent person to come every other week. We wanted the cleaning lady to be able to come on their own even when we're not home. The first person that was sent (Natasha) was half an hour late and didn't do a very good job. She was unable to finish cleaning the entire apartment in 3 hours which really should've been more than enough time. I spoke to Miranda about it and she sent Tracy the next time who did an excellent job. I was very clear with Tracy about what we wanted to get cleaned and each time she has done a great job. Like many of the other reviewers, you need to set your expectations very clearly. There have many times where I've had to be blunt when I didn't think something was done well, like one other reviewer mentioned, Tracy used Murphys oil on our floor and it left a terrible residue that I had to then re-mop to remove. The next time I told Tracy about it and it never happened again. She also has a tendency to use a lot of supplies, going through and entire roll of paper towels in one cleaning so I bought fabric cleaning towels and asked her to use those instead and I'd launder them them each time and it has worked out well. All in all, I'm happy with the service, Tracy is consistent and listens to my requests. I think any time you let someone into your home you want to make sure you can trust them so it's very important to speak up and set your expectations upfront. read more

I just had Soul Maids clean my apartment in East Williamsburg - and I was amazed when I came home after work! First of all, Miranda is a great coordinator and our Maid, Natasha, showed up on time. I gave her specific instructions and she exceeded my expectations! We have bad mildew in our bathroom and she got it ALL out. The apt is small so we paid $60 for 3 hours - SO worth it! You have to supply the cleaning products but it's no big deal. We left her there alone for 3 hours and she is totally trustworthy. Tried the service the 1st time in November. The maid did not organize my home nor did she take the garbage out. When I spoke to Miranda, I was told that she "assumed" that I would do her job for her and delegate her maid, even when I emailed in full detail exactly what I needed to be done to my home. Around this time I was very ill and could barely walk let alone speak, I notified Miranda of this as well, but I suppose that didn't make much of a difference. I decided to try the service again because of the cheaper prices, Miranda scheduled me for Thursday (today) this past Monday. The maid was supposed to come 2pm, I got an email 9 this morning from Miranda telling me the maid couldn't come and she had no replacement. I have looked for a maid for weeks as I live in Briarwood out in Queens. Finally I found one that was very affordable and thorough. Ruth came at the time desired.m and she dove right in. She prefers some cleaners so that she doesn't get harmful fumes. She cleaned our house from top to bottom in the 4 hours that she was there for. The only criticism that I have is that she spent an awful long time in the kitchen and it wasn't even that dirty. I started using Soul Maids when I moved to NYC from Nashville. I was looking for a quality yet not over-the-top priced helper on the cleaning front as my job has me on the road and working 80 hours a week. The reviews here were very helpful so I contacted Miranda-- she replied very quickly and now I have the lovely Tracy that comes every other week to my Brooklyn flat. Tracy has keys and most of the time I'm not home so she comes and goes on Wednesday's as she chooses but she always has me smiling when I come home. Ruth's work was far below standards. In 3 hours, she never swept the floors, dusted the furniture or even wiped down the kitchen counters. And for what "cleaning" she did, she used water instead of cleaning products, claiming "allergies." I've never had someone spend 3 hours "cleaning" 4 rooms and leave dust everywhere. It's unfortunate that in New York all we do is spend money and get crappy service. read more

Quick update on Soul Maids: Tracy has been cleaning our house every two weeks for a little while now, and we love her. When she was recently off for a bit, Natasha came to replace her. Natasha was very good: arrived a bit late the first time, but since she knew I'd be home she texted to let me know and it was no big deal. She finished in three hours, did a very thorough job, and came two more times before Tracy was back. And it was all very easy to schedule with Miranda. Like a few reviewers others here, I'm confused by some of the poor reviews that complain about rooms not being organized for you. All you need to do is ask for the specifics you require and then understand that all those things will add more time. read more

I am so relieved that I finally found Soul Maids for my two Airbnb units in Brooklyn that I host. Miranda is a delight, so easy to work with on the management end --- no quirky websites to deal with, just person to person. Simple. Nicky is the person working my account. She is intelligent, totally literate (unlike some people doing this kind of work), and really enjoys her job. Her cheerful and smart outlook is golden! I couldn't believe how quickly Nicky grasped my crazy long lists of picky instructions. Most people take quite a while to understand The Big List of details -- but not Nicky -- She got it right away and went to town! You see, as I've tried to explain to other services I tried in the past, there is a big difference between Housekeeping for a BnB Host vs just cleaning. I do not live in the bnb apartments, even though they are in my house where I live (in a separate apartment). Often, I have bnb guests checking out in the morning and new guests checking in just 4 hours later the same day. If I wanted to (which I don't) there usually is no time for me to go into the bnb units to double-check everything and to tweak any mistakes. The first couple of times, I did go up to check -- but now I know I can trust Nicky completely. I just don't have to worry. And nobody gets bent out of shape when I send my fussy little requests. Fabulous. Utterly fabulous. I am looking forward to expanding my work with Soul Maids; so Nicky will be helping me with cleaning my own home, too. There is nothing like working with personable, pleasant, and totally capable professionals. And because there is no fancy office, no buggy website, no administrative bureaucracy, Soul Maids was able to give me a price that is reasonable -- high enough to pay a fair wage to the worker(s) but not insanely high like some of the services out there. Natasha from Soul Maids has been cleaning our apartment every two weeks for quite some time now. All in all, I'm very pleased with the service. I am not home during the day (my husband works from home, though) so I leave Natasha a note every time she's going to come, listing what I want done in priority order. Generally she completes 100% of items on the list -- sometimes even staying over time to complete the items without ever asking for more money. Sometimes the service is uneven; for example, Natasha often doesn't wipe all the oven cleaner out of the oven and occasionally turns up late if the subways are running slow. However, our bathrooms and kitchen counters are spotless, Natasha does a very good job with vacuuming and folding laundry, and the furniture looks great after being dusted. Natasha does a much better job than we would take the time to do ourselves, very inexpensively. All in all, it's very much worth it to continue to use Soul Maids, and we'll keep doing so. read more

I recently hired Soul Maids to come clean my place. I had an injury and was finding it difficult to get the house cleaning done beyond the basic dishes, light cleaning (as well as being a student and working full time). Eleanor was terrific. She was reassuring and really did an excellent job. I had a couple special requests (clean out the fridge, clean and reorganize under the sink) She did everything I asked without hesitation. I was really pleased and thankful for the help. The prices were very reasonable. I'm a hot mess and really needed someone who could whip me into shape and she did just that. I plan to have the house cleaned on a regular basis, even after my ankle heals. She did an excellent job and I couldn't be happier. I've been doing business with Miranda for a while (dog walking) so when I needed to move, I asked her for a cleaning lady to take care of both my old and new places. Let me tell you, this woman (Eleanor) was AMAZING. I couldn't have done a better job (twice!) myself. She was late to our first appointment which I was very annoyed by, but her work seriously made up for it. The cleaning prices (depending on the size of your place) are really cheap (I paid $45 for one place and $90 for the other, but had to provide cleaning supplies). She is efficient, thorough and trustworthy. At the start of the relationship we created an extensive list of what we would like cleaned (and where relevant, with what cleaning products). Even though she has been with us for a year, she sill follows the routine as attentively as she did last December. We went through 3 cleaning services before we found someone that met my (and more importantly, my wife's) expectations - Ruth is better than any of the other services we've tried by a country mile. After having a marvelous experience with Tracy in two of my apartments last year, I asked Miranda for help again this year. This time, I had both Eleanor and Cheryl for last-minute emergency cleaning in Brooklyn in my dreadful, overcrowded, moldy apartment as I was leaving for something better. They both did a fantastic job at what they did, asked me for lots of detail, asked for what they needed in order to clean the areas I requested as well as they could, and asked for feedback afterwards. Now I do have to say that Eleanor was fantastic and I adored her, but Cheryl? Cheryl was a ROCK STAR. Piles of animal hair removed from the carpet. The windowsills were bleached. Multiple garbage bags of our detritus to toss out. And never, not once, a bad word about the state of the place. She was encouraging and enthusiastic the whole time. All in all I have never had a negative experience, and if I was still in Brooklyn I'd ask for Miranda's help over and over and over again. read more

Summary: terrific service at great price! We have been using Soul Maids for about a month now, and the cleaner (Natasha) has come twice so far. Terrific service and exactly what I need: the trustworthy Natasha now comes on a regular schedule, has keys to my apartment and knows what needs to get done and how. After having used the service when somebody was around, we determined that we could trust Natasha enough to give her the key and have her come during the week when nobody is around. I am very excited about this as this will completely free up our weekends. One thing to note is that you need to give very specific instructions about what needs to be cleaned and how, but this is a given. After a couple of rounds, Natasha knew what needed to be done but I still keep a sheet around to explain what needs to be done, and add or remove a few items every week based on the state of my apartment. Overall, this is exactly what I was looking for and I am glad I found it through all the positive reviews on yelp. read more

The first time I used Soul Maids, I was appreciative but not exactly impressed. The scheduling to set-up the service was pretty easy and done via email. The maid showed up on time. I requested 4 hours. She spent the first hour and a half cleaning a bathroom that's only about 8x8 feet. Ummm, ok. She broke my mop (before asking how it works). She also stepped on the soap dish fixture in my shower and broke it off of the wall. Ummmmm..... ok. The cleaning was somewhat subpar. The bathroom was done well (after an hour & a half it should have been!) as was the dusting and mopping in my bedroom, but the rest of the house was less than great. She didn't sweep or mop under anything (like the crib, coffee table, etc) so you can visibly see what was touched and what wasn't. I feel like the maid ran out of gas in the last hour and just gave a half-hearted effort. During that hour she was asked to sweep and mop the living room. After she left, I noticed she leaned a dirty rug against my infant's changing table and crib, I found garbage from under the couch on top the couch, and more garbage stuck inside my baby's car seat. Ummmmm, really lady?! Just, no. I asked her to clean my stovetop, stove hood, and inside the microwave. The stovetop was sparkling, the other two were basically just wiped over and didn't look clean at all. I feel like I shouldn't have to tell you something is not clean (or "good enough") if you clean for a living. Would you consider it clean if it was in your house? That should be the standard. Granted, my apartment was in dire need of cleaning at the time. Which is why I didn't give her a list, just prioritized task-by-task (bathroom, dusting, kitchen, sweep, mop, etc) as I monitored how much time we had left. So in that case, I feel that she was less rushing and more just didn't feel like cleaning that day. Because I like the easy set-up and pricing, I intend to give SoulMaids one more try, but I will ask for a different person next time. read more

I would NOT recommend Natasha. First, she was an hour late. When she arrived she blamed the train schedule (which does change over the weekend due to construction so okay understandable). But then she told me that it was also because she was up late last night drinking with cousins. Why do I need to know that?! Very unprofessional. She was supposed to clean my apartment within 3 hours, but all she managed to achieve was putting my laundry away, cleaning my bathroom and sweeping! Never again. read more

First cleaning job was pretty good (although she arrived late, but made up the time differential). Second time around was awful. I had to redo everything-- she left it in more of a mess than when she came in because nothing was moved back after mopping! Things were EVERYWHERE. On top of that, the maid arrived 45 minutes late and left 15 minutes early so a full hour was missing from what I paid (according to my roommate). We requested a different person to come (Soul Maid agreed to a free service since the second time was so bad, we had pictures galore). However, after waiting an hour for the new maid to arrive, we decided to cancel the cleaning-- its not worth the frustration of sitting around waiting for someone-- even if it's free. Don't waste your $$!! It was a big hassle and I was more STRESSED OUT than not. The price = $60 for three hours but don't actually expect the 3 hours or expect them to know what they are doing. read more

This is my favorite cleaning service in Brooklyn. I've been using them for a year and the last time was with Nicky. Efficient, organized and smart she was as amazing! Everyone I came into contact with at Soul Maids was perfectly nice, and I did really appreciate how quickly Miranda responded to email as others have said. We were able to schedule a cleaning the next day without making a phone call, which I LOVE. The place looks great for the most part and at $75 for four hours of service, well worth the price. I will suggest to others hiring Soul Maids or any apartment cleaning service to just be clear about what you want cleaned and not to assume too much that they will, say, clean and organize the inside of you cabinets or refrigerator unless you ask them too. Sometimes I wonder if these bad Yelp reviews aren't from people who expected to have their mind read. With a 1/2 hour left, our cleaning service provider asked if I had anything else I would like her to do. I caught that the refrigerator was left and she gave it good wipe down.
